This article will talk about why the car stalls while driving. The reason for this phenomenon may be the most banal, but you will get a lot of troubles from such “behavior” of the car. In addition, the engine may stall at idle speed. This is not very pleasant; the engine seems to start, but after a while it stops working. It is possible that the engine does not want to start if its temperature is close to operating temperature. The operating temperature of the engine is about 90 degrees. And there can be many reasons, but we need to consider the main ones.
Most common reason
It is worth paying attention to the fact that all reasons can be divided into several categories. Why does the car stall while driving? The reason can be both trivial and complex. If we are talking about injection engines, then very often the regulator that is responsible for the idle speed fails. It is he who supplies the required amount of air to the fuel rail. The idle air control is a stepper electric motor, which opens and closes the channel through which clean air passes into the mixture formation ramp. So, first of all, you need to make sure that the idle air control is working properly. To do this, you need to crank the crankshaft with the starter while simultaneously depressing the gas pedal. The engine starts, but the number of revolutions constantly changes. There is an obvious failure of the IAC - the engine stalls when you press the gas. And the most effective way to get rid of such a problem is to completely replace the element. You will need to install a new idle air control valve. On VAZ cars this is done literally in a matter of minutes.

Human factor

All of the above, in general, is not a breakdown, and can be solved in no time. Now let’s look at the reasons associated with a technical malfunction: If the starter turns very slowly, then the cause may be the oil in the engine that has thickened in the cold. Or maybe it’s a discharged battery after a long stay or its terminals are heavily oxidized. In this case, the voltage of the on-board network may drop so much that the engine control unit refuses to work. Well, everything is clear here: the oil should be filled according to the season, the battery should be charged or replaced. Something has frozen - water in the gas line, diesel fuel in the tank or filter. Look for a warm box! The fuel pump is faulty. This is easy to verify, unless you are trying to start the car near a busy and noisy highway. If the environment is quiet, then a sensitive ear can detect the absence of the characteristic buzzing of the fuel pump during starter operation. In the best case, poor contact in the circuit is to blame; in the worst case, you will have to replace the pump. The flywheel crown rotates. This sometimes happened on cars of previous years, up to the VAZ-2109. You can hear that the Bendix is engaged with the ring, and the ring rotates on the flywheel with a squeal. The flywheel is about to be replaced.
The starter does not engage with the ring

Bendix stuck

Failure of the ignition system in gasoline cars
. We check everything - spark plugs, coils, wiring, etc. The glow plugs of a diesel car do not work. The problem may be in the control unit, as well as in the power relay. The candles themselves should also be checked - you will have to tinker with this.
Timing belt shattered
. It’s easy to feel: it’s easy for the starter to turn. If you're lucky (the pistons don't meet the valves), it's enough to replace the belt; if not, then half the engine.
The timing belt jumped several teeth, disrupting the correct valve timing. Increased resistance to rotation of the crankshaft: scuffing on shafts, bearing shells, parts of the cylinder-piston group, deformation of shafts. Throttle problems
Quite often, the reason that the engine starts to stall is the throttle valve itself. It is quite possible that the air filter has worn out, so the entire surface of the damper inside is dirty. To fix this breakdown, it is enough to clean the damper completely from the inside. Please note that after thorough cleaning the problem may persist; the engine still stalls when you press the gas. In this case, you need to make sure that the position sensor is in good condition. This sensor is a variable resistor. It is installed on the damper axis. Moreover, maximum wear is observed in the extreme position (corresponding to idle speed). If it fails, it must be completely replaced. The cost of the part is quite low, and replacement occurs literally in a matter of minutes. But it is possible that the engine begins to stall, despite the fact that all sensors are in perfect condition.
Starter not working
After turning the key to the “Engine Start” position, the starter begins to rotate the car’s flywheel and within 5 seconds, under normal temperature conditions, the Largus engine should start. If the starter does not work, some elements may have failed:
- Low voltage in the on-board network - the voltage at the battery terminals must be at least 12V. When the voltage is lower, it is necessary to charge the car battery.
- Faulty contact group of the ignition switch or start relay - after turning the key, power is not supplied to the starter solenoid relay - you can measure the voltage at its contact with a voltmeter. A broken ignition switch or relay needs to be replaced.
- Faulty starter solenoid relay - when 12V is supplied to its contact, the relay does not operate (you cannot hear a characteristic click) and the starter does not turn. The retractor will need to be repaired or replaced.
- Faulty starter - after applying voltage to its winding, the engine does not turn over. The first reason is wear of the brushes; to eliminate the breakdown, it is enough to replace them. The second reason is that the starter winding has burned out, in which case the assembly part needs to be replaced. The third reason is jamming of mechanical elements; to eliminate it, it is necessary to disassemble the electrical part of the starter and the overrunning clutch (Bendex), wash all parts and lubricate them with graphite lubricant.
Some other reasons why the Lada Largus starter does not turn, for example: problems in the wiring or jamming of the internal combustion engine are much less common.
Fuel quality

Tips to make diagnosis and repair easier
To diagnose a malfunction in a Lada Largus car, you may need special tools and devices. If there are problems with the fuel supply, it is necessary to measure the pressure in the fuel rail; for this you will need a special pressure gauge with an adapter. If it is missing, you can unscrew the gasoline supply hose from the rack, lower it into an empty container, turn on the ignition and measure how many liters of fuel the pump will pump in one minute. Air filter
The situation is similar as in the case of a gasoline filter element. Please note that the operation and repair of the vehicle must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements. After all, you know that a mixture of gasoline and air is supplied to the combustion chamber. Consequently, if any component of this mixture does not enter the fuel rail, the engine will stall. Consider an example of how a motor operates when there is not enough air. Too rich a mixture enters the combustion chamber, causing the spark plugs to flood. At the same time, there is a feeling as if the engine does not have enough air, it is suffocating. Actually it is given: Lada Largus 2013 (I took a new one) 7-seater, 16-valve engine - K4M, mileage 57,000 km, all maintenance was done on time, the car was used carefully. The following happened: I left it running and with the high beams on, PTF (I was working in the headlights myself) and the interior blowing, after 20-30 minutes I come back, the engine doesn’t work (but it stalled recently - it hasn’t cooled down), I try to start the starter, the engine turns, doesn’t pick up, doesn’t sneezes and spins very quietly, but quickly. I thought it might be a retractor, just in case I checked it - the engine was turning (put it in gear and turned the key - it jerked). What I did next: 1) I removed the terminals from the battery (I thought maybe there was some mistake) and after waiting 5-8 minutes I connected it back. 2) We tried to start it with a pusher. 3) I checked the fuel pump (it sounds like it works when the key is first turned); just in case, the fireman got to the fuel pump itself, removed the hose and, putting the key back in the preliminary position, witnessed a vigorous stream of gasoline. .
