We install silent locks from a VAZ 2114 to a VAZ 2106 with our own hands
. VAZs have a number of disadvantages from the very beginning of their production. Previously, such independent methods of modernizing these cars as modernizing the stove, installing armrests and foglights have already been considered.
Now we will talk about improving the locks of the VAZ 2106. It is necessary to improve the door by installing quiet locks from the VAZ 2114 or 2115 model.
It is better not to purchase VAZ 2114 silent locks all at once, but to try installing only one or two at first to evaluate their quality.

- silent locks and cables
- lock with latch;
- outer part of the castle;
- a pair of bolts from a VAZ 2114 lock connecting the mechanism (the bolts can be short and long, in this case the latter are needed);
- bolt to the rack;
- cable with a diameter of one and a half millimeters;
- thread tap;
- clamps;
- drill, drill bit at “8.5”, “9”, “10”;
- round file;
- hammer;
- screwdrivers;
- sandpaper or grinder with a sanding attachment.
Design of silent locks
Silent locks, unlike factory locks installed on VAZ 2105, 2106, 2107, have a completely different operating principle. They work on the latch principle, which is how locks on modern foreign-made car models are designed. The design of this lock allows it to close the door quietly and with minimal effort; it is quite easy to press the door with your hand.

The castle consists of two parts. During installation, the inner part installed in the door is connected to the outer part with bolts, forming a single mechanism. The lock control rods from the door handles, locking buttons, and lock cylinders are connected to the inside of the lock. The outer part is responsible for engagement with the lock retainer installed on the car body pillar.

An additional advantage of these locks over factory ones is provided by covering the outer part of the mechanism with a plastic shell. This allows the lock to operate absolutely silently, hence its name. The absence of rubbing metal surfaces does not require regular cleaning and lubrication of the lock, which has a positive effect on the service life; the owner does not need to worry about the reliability of the locks. The lock closes the door tightly and holds it well.

Which lock to choose for installation
Factories and cooperatives have long been producing silent locks for various car models. Some automakers have even begun installing them on production vehicles. Thus, Volga cars, VAZ 2108/09, VAZ 2110–2112, VAZ 2113–2115, VAZ 2170 have already acquired silent locks. On the market you can choose a lock model suitable for your model with minimal modifications. Locks adapted for installation on VAZ 2105, 2106, 2107 are not produced by factories, so car enthusiasts, over time, have developed ways to install locks from other VAZ car models. Later, cooperatives began to produce sets of locks intended for installation on these VAZ models.

Kits manufactured by cooperatives cannot boast of a guarantee of quality, however, the presence of all the parts necessary for installing locks undoubtedly attracts the buyer.
But if you consider that low-quality kits will still have to be modified during installation, then you should turn your attention to high-quality factory locks manufactured at factories in Dimitrovgrad, PTIMASH, FED and others. These locks will last longer and will certainly not cause any inconvenience during operation. Having spent time installing a factory lock, you will independently determine what additional elements are needed and will be preferable for your car; the lock will be installed with high quality and will last a long time.
On the VAZ 2105, 2106 and 2107 models you can install a lock from any VAZ model with silent locks. The most popular choice among car enthusiasts who decide to install a silent lock on a “classic” is the lock from the VAZ 2108 car.

Required Tools
In order to install silent locks on a VAZ-2106, we will need the following tools:
- lock with latch (mechanism and its outer part);
- two bolts from the lock of a VAZ-2106 car, with the help of which the parts from the previous paragraph can be connected into one. Please note that these bolts come in short and long versions. For this work we need long bolts;
- bolt to the rack;
- a cable whose diameter is approximately 1.5 mm;
- tap for cutting threads;
- drill;
- drills 10, 9, and 8.5;
- screwdrivers;
- hammer;
- round file;
- grinder with a nozzle designed for grinding, or emery.
Interior soundproofing
This part of the work is the most labor-intensive and requires the dismantling of interior parts and interior upholstery. To disassemble the interior of a VAZ 2107, you will need metalworking tools and it is advisable to have an assistant. The procedure for installing sound-absorbing coatings inside a car body with your own hands is as follows:
The front seats, rear sofa and carpeting from the floor are removed from the interior. We remove upholstery from the surfaces of doors and ceilings taking precautions. Sound insulation is glued to the floor, ceiling and door cavities after preliminary degreasing. Assembling the car interior with your own hands is done in the reverse order of disassembly.

Replacement of all door locks on VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099
Note! First, before starting work, from the car door on which you are going to replace any lock, first remove the trim; you will find information on how to remove the trim from a car door “in this article”!
Replacing the outside door handle:
1) First, disconnect both rods from the inner lock of the outer handle, to do this:
1. First, use a screwdriver to pry up the “door handle trigger rod” and then disconnect it.
2. Then, in the same way, disconnect the second rod “door lock switch rod” from the internal lock.

2) Next, unscrew one inner retaining nut that secures the outer handle to the car door.
3) And after unscrewing the inner nut, completely unscrew the last nut, which is located on the edge of the door and also holds the outer handle.
4) And then remove the outer door opening handle, together with the rods, from the car door.
Replacing the lock cylinder:
1) First, remove the outside handle from the car door, if you still have it removed. (see "Removing the outer handle")
2) After removing the handle, using an awl or a thin screwdriver, push out the locking pin of the lock.
3) And then, on the back side of the handle, remove the lock leash.
4) Next, use a screwdriver to pry the spring of the outer handle cylinder.
5) And then remove it.
6) To complete the operation, insert the door opening key into the cylinder, and then remove the cylinder from the handle.
Replacement of external and internal door lock:
Replacing an external door lock: 1) In order to remove the external lock from a car door, read a separate article on this matter, published earlier on our website, the article is called: “Replacing an external lock”
Replacing the inner door lock: 1) First, use a screwdriver to remove both screws that secure the outer lock to the car door.
Note! It is best to unscrew these two screws with an impact screwdriver, but if you don’t have one, then use a regular screwdriver! 2) After unscrewing the screws, remove the outside lock from the car door.
3) And after that, remove the inner lock from the inside of the car door.
4) After removing the internal lock, remove from it using a screwdriver the lock washer that locks the “internal drive rod”.
5) And after disconnecting the lock washer, remove the “internal drive rod” from the lock.
6) Next, disconnect the plastic clamp that secures it from the “lock release button drive rod”, and then remove the rod from the lock.
