A windshield wiper is designed to thoroughly clean the surface of the windshield, so if it doesn't work effectively, sticks and drags, the road ahead becomes difficult to see in rain or snowstorms.
The functions of the wipers are based on the supply of appropriate power and the uninterrupted operation of the regulator. The last part is indispensable in the design of wipers, so it is advisable for every VAZ-2107 driver to know where the relay is located so that problems with it can be fixed at any convenient time.
Wiper relay functions
Windshield wipers operate thanks to an electric motor that supplies 12V voltage. However, this is too much power, requiring a significant amount of direct current. It is to reduce the direct current indicator that a relay of the RS-514 format is installed in the electrical circuit, which regulates the frequency of movement of the wipers. The VAZ-2107 car is equipped with 2 options for moving the windshield wipers - one is possible without a break, the other has a pause of 4 seconds.
The windshield wiper relay on the windshield in the VAZ-2107, in particular where it is located, is of interest to many car enthusiasts, otherwise in some cases it becomes impossible to repair the windshield wipers. What does the windshield wiper relay consist of?
The wiper relay looks like a box, painted black, to which a 15 cm long wire is connected. If you begin to disassemble it, inside you can see an electrical board containing electronic components.
They are assembled and connected to each other, taking into account the circuit developed by the designers; this circuit just keeps the wiper relay in working condition. For a better understanding, let’s look at the windshield wiper relay device piece by piece:
- Electromagnetic coil.
- Microscopic controller of HP37 format.
- Capacitor.
- Resistor.
There are several more resistors, but they are not as important as the main one, located near the controller in the right corner of the device at the bottom. The board includes 4 connected wires that transmit signals from the VAZ-2107 wiper regulator.
Installation process
The windshield wiper relay with adjustable pause is easy to install yourself. To do this, you need to find the brush block and open the cover on it. There used to be an old relay here. Ideally, the new control unit has been modified and can be easily installed in an existing mounting location.
After this, you need to configure the system. After installing all elements of the system in the reverse order, it is necessary to turn on the intermittent wiper movement mode. In this case, the pause will last the standard amount of time. Next, you can set your settings.
To do this, the driver must turn off the brushes. After this, it maintains the required time interval. For example, it will be 2 seconds. Then the driver switches on the intermittent brush movement mode again. In this case, the relay will remember how often you need to sweep the wipers. This is a very convenient way to control the movement of the brushes.
How does the wiper relay work?
The wipers installed on the windshield of the VAZ-2107 function thanks to the coordinated operation of an electric motor, relay, fuse, switch and 12V power supply. After current is supplied to the electromagnetic coil when the windshield wipers are on, the moving armature is automatically connected, then the winding and finally the closing contacts located below and above.
What happens next:
- The anchor is pulled to the middle, which allows you to separate the contacts at the top and align the contacts at the bottom.
- At the beginning of the coil there is a bracket equipped with a bimetallic panel wrapped with thin wire, which just transmits the current.
- The current causes the panel to heat up, after which it opens the contacts.
- After some time, the panel cools down completely and takes its previous position.
- When the contacts open, the EMF is adjusted in the coil.
- To suppress the electromotive force, a resistor rated at 62 kOhm is built into the mechanism.

- Once power is applied to the relay, where the contacts close when the coil is activated, the electric motor receives power and begins to function.
- After a maximum of 3 seconds, the panel made of bimetal heats up and turns off the power supply from the VAZ-2107 engine.
- When the wiper blades return to their normal position, the panel cools down and starts working again.
- The main resistor, which divides the homing EMF, forms the delay required for a certain periodicity of the wipers.

Where is the wiper relay located on a VAZ 2107?
In the VAZ-2107, the switches are located under the steering wheel of the car. If you suspect a malfunction, the first thing you need to do is find out the reason why this or that function does not work.
Repairing the switch
We remove the steering column switch on the seven. Having removed the first ring, then the headlight, stop and wiper levers, we get to the mechanism by which the turns are automatically turned off. We take it out and here lies the cause of all the troubles: between the reeds there is a spring that breaks off and does not move the reeds in different directions. It is necessary to replace the spring; you can use a regular spring from a ballpoint pen. Next, we begin collecting all the rings and levers in reverse order. After finishing the work, we check how the levers and the turning mechanism work. To do this, we connect the pads and place the terminals on the battery; if all functions work, then we have completed the repair.
Also, the cause of a malfunction of the turn switch may be contamination or oxidation of the contacts. You can clean dirty or oxidized contacts; to do this, you need to slightly bend the “sagging” springs and other accessible parts. As a rule, after carrying out such cleaning manipulations, it is possible to restore the functionality of the switch.
WIPERS VAZ 2107
The vehicle is operated in different climatic and road conditions. For safe and comfortable movement, the driver must have good visibility of the road situation, i.e. the windshield must always be clean. Windshield wipers provide mechanical cleaning of the windshield from dirt and sediment, improving visibility and increasing safety. We will consider possible problems with this mechanism and ways to eliminate them in more detail.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The work of the wipers is quite simple and consists of the following sequence of actions:
- The driver selects the desired operating mode of the windshield wipers using the steering column switch.
- The entire windshield cleaning mechanism is driven by a motor.
- The wipers move across the glass left and right at the selected speed, cleaning the surface.
- When the mechanism is no longer needed, the steering column switch returns to its original position.

TRAPEZE
One of the important elements in the windshield wiper mechanism is the trapezoid. On almost all cars this part is the same, and the difference lies only in the methods of fastening, the size and shape of the elements. The functioning of the trapezoid consists of transmitting rotational motion from the electric motor to the wipers, as well as ensuring the synchronous movement of the latter for high-quality glass cleaning. The trapezoid consists of rods, a body and a hinge.

MOTOR
The electric motor of the windshield wipers of the VAZ “Seven” is made as a single unit with a gearbox and is one of the main links of the mechanism in question. The motor consists of a stator with permanent magnets and an armature with an elongated shaft, at the end of which a screw is threaded. The purpose of this unit is to ensure the movement of the blades along the windshield. The device is considered reliable and fails very rarely.
WIPER RELAY
On classic Zhiguli cars, the windshield wiper has two operating modes - fast and intermittent with an interval of 4-6 seconds. It is to ensure intermittent operation that the RS 514 breaker relay is designed. Delayed activation of the wipers is used during light rain, when too frequent operation of the windshield wipers is not required, and when the mechanism is completely turned off, the glass is gradually covered with small drops of precipitation and needs to be cleaned. The product is connected to the general wiring using a four-pin connector. On the VAZ 2107, the breaker relay is located on the driver’s side on the left side panel under the plastic trim.

BRUSHES
Almost all passenger cars use two windshield wiper blades. On the “seven”, elements with a length of 33 cm are installed from the factory. Longer brushes can be installed, but a greater load will be placed on the electric motor, which will lead not only to slower operation of the mechanism, but also to possible failure of the motor.
The VAZ 2107 is equipped with brushes 33 cm long from the factory.
Revision procedure
The old resistor needs to be removed from one side. One wire is soldered to its free leg. The second core must be connected to the place where it was installed. The wire can be used one two-core or two single-core. The second end is connected to the central contact.
Next, the relay cover can be closed and the device installed in the system. Its functionality is checked.

WINDSHIELD WASHER DOES NOT WORK
To remove dirt from the windshield, the washer is used together with the windshield wiper. The device sprays water or a special liquid. The main elements of this mechanism are:
- fluid reservoir;
- motor;
- nozzles;
- connecting tubes.

During the operation of a car with a washer, various problems may arise that lead to its inability to work:
- motor failure;
- fuse blown;
- kinking of tubes;
- breakdown of the steering column switch;
- poor contact on the power supply circuit.
CHECKING THE MOTOR
It is easy to check if the washer pump is not working properly. To do this, just open the hood and pull the lever of the steering column switch, which is responsible for the function of supplying fluid to the windshield. At this moment, the operation of the motor will be clearly audible. If this does not happen, then the malfunction may be caused either in the pump itself or in the fuse or other part of the electrical circuit. To make sure that the problem lies in the motor, we use a multimeter to measure the voltage when the washer is turned on. If there is voltage, but the pump does not work, then you need to take care of replacing it.

INJECTORS
If the motor is running, but liquid is not supplied through the nozzles, then the problem will not be difficult to identify, since there are only a few reasons for this phenomenon:
- clogged injector fittings;
- the supply tube has come off;
- kinking of the tube.
The malfunction can be determined by inspecting the tubes from the motor to the injectors. If there are no areas with kinks and the tube has not fallen off, then the reason lies in clogged nozzles, which can be cleaned with a sewing needle and blown out with a compressor.

FUSE AND MOUNTING BLOCK
The integrity of the fuse is checked in the same way as for windshield wipers. The same protective element as for the wipers is responsible for the operation of the washer. In addition to the fuse, sometimes the track in the mounting block through which power is supplied to the washer burns out. In this case, you need to disassemble the fuse box and restore the current-carrying element by soldering, having first cleared the varnish from the track.

UNDERSTEERING'S SHIFTER
You should start checking the steering column switch on a VAZ 2107 if the fuse, motor and the entire electrical circuit through which voltage is supplied to the pump are in good condition. In this case, the wiring should not have breaks, melted insulation or other visible damage. To check the steering column switch, only a multimeter will be enough. Having disconnected the connectors from the device in question, we connect the probes of the device in the dialing mode with a two-pin block. If the switch is working properly, then when the washer is turned on, the device will show zero resistance. Otherwise, the mechanism will have to be replaced.

Numbering, ratings and purpose of fuses
Each of the fuses in the VAZ 2107 can serve one or more electrical circuits of the car. If a fuse fails, a specific device or vehicle system (or several) will not receive power. As a result, a particular device becomes inoperable.
Fuse failure is not always the cause of a malfunction. In many cases, a blown fuse is the result of a component or system malfunction. Such cases include:
- short circuit in the car's electrical wiring;
- burning of contacts and connectors;
- wear of the fuel pump, electric motors of vehicle system drives (windshield wiper, fan);
- malfunction of the electronic engine control unit.
In the event of a failure of any of the vehicle systems, according to the table below and the fuse location diagram, determine the fuse number and its location in the block. If this fuse is responsible for several systems, you should check the functionality of the other system. If it works correctly, the fuse is most likely good and is not the problem. After this, using a multimeter or other measuring equipment, the functionality of the fuse is checked by measuring its resistance (continuity).
Testing the fuse should only be done on a dismantled (removed) fuse. The resistance of a good fuse is close to zero. In most types of fuses, the thread of its working area is visible through the light or is located outside the body part. You can check the fuse visually, but there are often cases of erroneous inspection when the working area has a microcrack.

WIPERS FOR HEADLIGHTS
Some owners of “Sevens” install windshield wipers on the headlights for ease of use of the headlights. The first step is to disconnect the power plug from the wiper motor. To do this, disconnect it by pulling the ends to the sides with a little force:
