VAZ-2112 cars were equipped with 8 and 16 valve injection engines, which in turn were equipped with their own protection system - the so-called immobilizer. Using this device, any attempt to start the engine without a special key was blocked. In case of problems with the immobilizer, starting the engine was not possible even with a set of original keys and tags, what should I do in this case? Just disable the immobilizer!
The video shows how to disable the immobilizer on VAZ cars:
Kinds
Today, cars are equipped with either contact or contactless immobilizers, with the latter being more in demand among consumers. Contact systems are controlled using a key, while contactless systems use a remote control or card. If you don’t know how to connect the alarm to the central locking, then this is quite possible. Installing an alarm system on a VAZ 2110 with your own hands is quite possible with a further combination of the alarm system and immo (the author of the video is the IZO channel))) LENTA).
As for the “dozens,” this type of alarm is found only on injection versions. To control the device there is a set of keys. Red represents the master key, which is used to activate the protection.
The black key is used by the owner of the car. The procedure for “learning” or activating the system is usually carried out in the showroom, before the car goes on sale. Although, in principle, connecting the alarm to the central locking of a VAZ with further activation can be done at home.
The first “tens” were equipped with APS-4 systems, but after some time the cars began to be equipped with more modernized versions of APS-6. As for installation, the immobilizer is located either in the steering column, or behind the dashboard, or behind the radio, and the code is in the ignition switch. The APS-6 system does not connect to the VAZ hazard alarm, but can be used to control power windows (if they are electric), as well as fog lights.
It should be noted that some APS-6 are equipped with a body from the fourth models, this is probably due to the oversupply of APS-4 production. In this case, the number 4 will be marked on the case, and the diagram itself should have the inscription APS-6.
Why do you have to disable the immobilizer?
VAZ began to equip immo only with injection-type cars. The first anti-theft devices of this series appeared on the VAZ 2110 and they were called APS-4. Today, more modern APS-6 models are more common. Now all cars of the 2110 to 2115 series are equipped with this particular device.
The most common problem with this device is the loss of the key or if the car owner, without knowing it, erased its code. Speaking specifically about VAZ standard immos, you can more often encounter a problem related to the fact that the lights in the cabin do not go out and, as a result, the alarm does not go off. In addition, malfunctions of the immobilizer software often occur, as a result of which its central unit does not read information about the key or considers it “not native”. As a result, when you stop to refuel, you risk being left in a stalled car.
To reprogram (marry, bypass, flash, upgrade, adapt) a device, you must first turn it off. In addition, immobilizers are usually disabled when installing a car alarm.
Principle of operation
Immo connection and operation diagram If you decide to connect the immo to the VAZ 2110 central locking system, first familiarize yourself with the principle of operation of the system. The operating principle of the immo is based on the exchange of data between the device itself, as well as the control unit. Taking into account a particular situation, the immobilizer determines whether to give permission to start the engine or block it. In the latter case, the ignition circuit and the fuel pump are blocked, making it impossible to start the engine. In other words, if you do not have an immo key, then operating the car will be impossible.
1. APS-6 board.
2. ROM on the immo chip.
Improvement of the anti-theft device
If a standard version of the device is installed on a VAZ 2110, its use is not as comfortable as possible, since the version is already significantly outdated. Because of this, the car owner may face many problems caused by system failure. By turning it off with a key, you will only waste your time. Follow what the instructions advise and disable the immobilizer on the VAZ 2110.
Connecting the APS to the ECM with an 81-pin ECU connector
Use additional tools such as a regular laptop or desktop computer, a specially designed pack loader, insulating tape, a screwdriver and a small wrench. The immobilizer is disabled on most VAZ models using the same method. In the VAZ 2110 model, the immobilizer is installed immediately above the side panel. In order to detect it, you will need to remove the controller and unscrew all four bolts. Only after this can the device be disassembled.
Disconnect the device and erase all stored information using a computer program. To complete this task, you will need to connect the pack loader through the controller. When disabling the immobilizer, try to do this work in such a way that the diagnostic line resumes. To do this, you will need to install special jumpers on the car that connect the block that diagnoses unauthorized movement and the unit responsible for driving the car.
After the program completes a complete system update, the connector can be installed in its rightful place. In a VAZ 2110 car, the instrument panel, under which the immobilizer is installed, is attached to the sockets using several screws. The connections are made in such a way that the board is securely attached to the back of the panel.
The package also includes several counters, one of which shows how far you have covered, and the second - how many kilometers you had to travel per day. Using a special button, all readings can be reset to zero if necessary. Please note that some models include an electronic instrument panel that contains all the necessary indicators.
In what cases should it be disabled?
At first glance, it may seem that disabling the alarm is an unnecessary matter, especially if the immo is working normally. However, there are certain reasons why a car owner is faced with the need to turn off:
- Factory defect, this problem is one of the most common in “tens”. If we are talking about a more updated version, the car may be equipped with an alternative engine starting system, thanks to which the driver can bypass the protection.
- A complete discharge of the battery may cause the on-board computer to perceive this situation as an attempt to break in, resulting in a lock. The control unit and the motor exchange data via a diagnostic line, so that if there is no power, the on-board computer records an error.
- The control unit blocks the operation of the immo, this can be caused by various reasons. It is quite possible that one phone call to a mobile phone can disrupt the operation of the anti-theft installation. But this problem is more relevant for the first “ten” equipped with immo.
- The immobilizer is broken, resulting in the need to replace it.
As you understand, there can be many reasons for dismantling the immo, but removing the device from the connector will not solve the problem (the author of the video about disconnecting the system is the KV Avtoservis channel).
Fault groups
All immobilizer malfunctions can be divided into two categories, each of which has a different method of eliminating the problem, as well as the degree of its complexity. As a rule, in most cases the device can be restored:
- Software faults. Problems like this occur due to a software glitch. This may be a desynchronization of the device with the chip code and the motor unit where the signal goes. There may be another immobilizer error, but most of them can be resolved quite simply and quickly: you need to contact a specialist who will quickly reprogram the device and erase the errors.
- Hardware failures. This concerns mechanical damage to the device, which causes malfunctions in its operation. This may include defects on the device’s circuit board, damage to the wires and power system, and malfunctions of the switching cable. Mechanical problems are also quickly resolved in service centers.
When purchasing a car with this security system, you must receive a set of two keys. If you were given an incomplete set, or you lost one of them, you urgently need to make a new one and reflash the device, otherwise there is a chance that your car may be stolen.
Remember that if you start to observe interruptions in the operation of your device or you want to install this device on your car, it is best to contact official service centers, protecting yourself from possible scammers.
To summarize, it can be noted that the immobilizer is a complex system, but if used correctly, it will provide good security. Please read the instructions for using this device to ensure it works correctly. If for any reason you need to repair your device, it is better to contact competent specialists; this will guarantee uninterrupted operation in the future, and you will be protected from the risk of becoming a victim of theft.
Instructions for disabling immo
If you don’t know how to turn off the alarm on a VAZ 2110, then first of all you need to disconnect the plug from the protection. This way you will let the computer know that the immo is physically absent. After disconnecting, you must erase all information about the device from the control unit’s memory.
It would seem that everything is simple, but in practice this procedure is not clear to all car owners. So, how to disable the immobilizer on a VAZ 2110?
There are several options - cut the wires or reflash the device, the procedure for cutting the wires is as follows:
- First you need to find the system control unit. As we have already reported, in most cases it is installed behind the radio, in the dashboard.
- Feel for the connector with your hand and disconnect it from the unit. The connector itself has 20 pins.
- Next, you should first count contact number 9 from the plug, then contact 18. Take these wires and cut them with a knife. Next, these two wires must be connected to each other and insulated.
- After removing the device, it is necessary to restore the line through which diagnostics are carried out. To do this, you need to install a jumper that will restore communication between the control unit and the diagnostic block. When you cut the wires and then connect them to each other, this is how you restore the K-Line. After all the manipulations, the connector is put in place.
Once you have everything in hand, you need to do the following:
- Remove and disassemble the control unit.
- After disassembly, you need to find the controller plug and connect the PAK loader to it. Having done this, you can consider the standard firmware that was installed during the production of the car.
- Similarly, it is necessary to read data through the EEPROM output.
- On a laptop or desktop computer, you must save the previously read firmware installed at the factory.
- You need to upload a new, clean EEPROM into the control unit via the connector.
- Then you can disable the bootloader, assemble the controller and install the device in place.
If your car has a ROM sealed into the control unit, you will need to unsolder it and then perform chip tuning. If you don’t want to do this, then there is a way out - you can use a utility, for example, Combiset, which has the option of clearing EEPROM without the need to resolder the board.
An immobilizer is a vehicle’s protection against theft; if you install an alarm system with auto start, an immobilizer bypass is sold, but experts do not recommend simply picking the brain and removing it from it.
There are two types of immobilizers:
- contact;
- contactless.
To control the former, keys are used, and for the latter, a special keychain or card is used. As a rule, they are perfectly combined with anti-theft alarms. The first alarms for this brand are called APS-4.
They are not particularly reliable, but the successors to the APS-6 are much better. Previously, they were used to control fog lights. It often happens that APS-6 is located in the old building with the number 4.
The basis of the VAZ-2110 immobilizer is the exchange of data between the ECU and the device itself. Either the permission to start the engine or the blocking is triggered, without which the car cannot be started. How to disable the immobilizer on a VAZ 2110 - this question is very relevant for many, especially if the engine has 8 valves.
Bypassing the immobilizer when connecting an alarm system
Before you disable the immobilizer on the VAZ 2110, you should study all the methods for such a restart, and the first thing you should start with is this useful option from VAZ. Since it is in these cars that immobilizers most often fail, manufacturers have come up with a simple solution to this problem. Thanks to special software, you can perform an alternative start of the device and make one trip in emergency mode. However, to do this you will first need to enter a six-digit password. It is activated by pressing the gas pedal. This means that if the “reboot” code is “999999” then you need to press the gas the corresponding number of times, at the same interval. This procedure does not cause positive emotions, but in a hopeless situation or when installing an alarm system, this may be the only way to outwit the immobilizer.
Another method is the bypass module (immo crawler). A small electronic device is equipped with transmitting and receiving antennas located inside and outside. The device key or chip is also located inside the case. As soon as you start the car with the alarm, the internal antenna reads the code and transmits it to the ignition switch.
Important! If the car is started with the key, such a crawler will not work.
If one of the keys is lost, the remaining spare can be disassembled and the chip removed from it and secured to the ignition switch. After this, you can use any ignition key and the immo will be disabled.
This concerns generally accepted tricks that will help in solving such issues as disabling the immobilizer on a VAZ 2114. If you want to manually disable the immo, then you must adhere to the following recommendations.
In what cases is it necessary to disable the immobilizer?
There are a number of cases when there is a need to turn off this device:
- If it is defective from the factory and because of this the machine does not work properly. As a rule, this occurs on the very first car models.
- If the computer battery is completely discharged and prevents the engine from starting.
- If the ECU has blocked it.
- It also happens that the system is worn out and requires replacement.
As we can see, there are different reasons for disabling the immobilizer. It should be understood that this procedure is very serious and quite complex. You need to know all the subtleties.
Simply unplugging the connector can completely shut down the entire engine starting system.
Dialogue between immobilizer and injection computer
For APS units, as well as for other standard immobilizers, communication with the injection control unit is simple. At the moment of “training” of the immobilizer, when key codes are written in its memory, the code of the device block itself is simultaneously written in the memory of the injection ECU. After the training procedure, the immobilizer will “accept” only the registered keys, and the injection ECU will “wait” for permission only from “its” device.
If no code is entered into the corresponding memory cells of the injection ECU, then the “brains” will not wait for permission to start at all. Therefore, it is possible to disable the immobilizer without removing the injection computer if the control unit supports flashing via the diagnostic connector. For such cars, car thieves usually took with them spare “brains” - new ones, where the immobilizer had not yet been registered, or “wiped out”.
At the same time, bypassing the standard immobilizer in this way did not cause any problems with the rest of the electronics - in the standard wiring, the APS is embedded in the gap of a single bus between the diagnostic connector and the “brains”. Therefore, deactivating the immobilizer in this way only deprived the subsequent possibility of diagnosing the injection computer, and even then this problem was eliminated by a simple jumper in the connector of the APS unit.
How to properly turn off the device
You need to start by disconnecting the connector from the protection, and then clear the data from the ECU flash memory. It should be noted that incorrect shutdown can lead to the car stalling and you will have to order a tow truck to transport the VAZ-2110 to a car service center. To prevent this from happening, you need to thoroughly study the features of this procedure.
There are two options for disconnecting: cutting the wires and reflashing. The first option consists of the following steps:
- First you need to find the immobilizer control unit. Often it is located at the level of the radio.
- After this, you need to feel it with your hand and remove the connector from the block.
- As you know, the connector has 20 contacts. First, the ninth channel is cleaned, then the eighteenth, after which they are cut off.
- Next, they need to be reconnected and insulated.
- After removal, you need to restore the line along which diagnostics are carried out. To do this, a jumper is made that establishes communication between the ECU and the diagnostic block. After cutting and joining, K-line operation is restored.
- After completing this work, the connector must be returned to its place.
Enabling and disabling APS-4
The immobilizer, even if it is activated, does not interfere with the operation of any car alarm that you decide to connect additionally. The only thing is that autostart will be impossible with it. It is possible to install a crawler or activate the Valet mode. But in the second case, the engine can be started with a blank, and in the first case, you will need to hack the alarm system.
Shutdown procedure
Of course, here we are looking at how Valet mode is turned on. It will be easy to use:
- Turn on the ignition without disarming the car;
- The diode starts blinking;
- The “red” key fob is brought to the reader, and the ignition is turned off while holding the key fob;
- The diode will light continuously and the standard alarm buzzer will sound;
- Remove the key fob;
- 3-5 seconds after step 3, the diode will start flashing intermittently;
- Within 10 seconds, install the key fob on the reader again;
- The standard alarm will produce a sound signal lasting one second, the diode will light continuously;
- The key fob is removed and the ignition is turned on within 10 seconds;
- The buzzer emits a short signal and the ignition is turned off.
A sequence is considered that allows you to programmatically disable the APS unit. For the Bosch MP7 controller, step 9 looks different.
Now it will be said exactly how.
Imagine that step "9" is replaced by the following three:
- Remove the key fob, then turn on the ignition within 10 seconds;
- Without waiting for the sound signal, the ignition is turned off after 2 seconds;
- The buzzer sounds.
Using this sequence, the Valet mode is installed in those cars where the MP-7 ECU controller is used. VAZ cars with this controller are not uncommon. By the way, the statement almost does not apply to the 2110 family: the “Ten” was more often equipped with a domestic ECU unit.
All the sequences given above will be useless for APS-6 blocks. The VAZ company came up with the idea of making and connecting a new module when they began producing the Chevrolet Niva. Then the “6th block” moved to other cars that were produced after 2003. This means that the warning does not apply to the VAZ-2110 family.
How to get it all back
Let's say Valet mode needs to be turned off. Then you will need to take a training key fob, and at the same time you need to grab the key fobs used for disarming. Actions are carried out in the following sequence:
- Turn on the ignition, bring the training key fob to the reader;
- While holding the key fob in place, turn off the ignition;
- The standard buzzer should emit a signal, after which the key fob is removed;
- 3-5 seconds after “step 2” the diode begins to blink;
- When the diode blinks, a “black” key fob is brought to the reader;
- The standard alarm buzzer will sound again;
- After step “6” teach the next keychain;
- While the diode is blinking, a “red” key fob is brought to the reader;
- The diode will start to glow steadily;
- You need to turn on the ignition immediately;
- For the MP-7 ECU, the ignition is turned off after 1-2 seconds;
- For controllers other than MP-7, the ignition is turned off after the sound signal;
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
The installation, that is, the activation of the security mode, was completed completely. But, don't rush.
Any car alarm system that uses a one-way code is characterized by the phenomenon of loss of synchronization of the operation of elements (blocks). When we talk about the VAZ immobilizer, this is what we mean: the ECU and APS units lose synchronization.
Let's perform the resynchronization procedure:
- They open the door, disable the security with a “black” key fob;
- Turn on the ignition;
- If the diode blinks at a frequency of 1 Hertz, you need to turn off the ignition and wait 15 seconds.
After completing step 3, the system is ready for use. In general, synchronization is lost when key fobs are registered. But this will also happen if you disconnect and then reconnect cord 28 (line “K”).
Note: do not try to register a key fob used in another LADA car! You need “standard” key fobs or new ones.
Other points
It is recommended to purchase special plugs for this vehicle that are suitable for the APS connector. They help establish communication between the diagnostic block and the ECU.
To summarize, we note that it is quite difficult to disable the immobilizer on a VAZ-2110 car yourself. You need to know all the nuances and strictly follow the rules. If the car owner is well versed in the design of his iron horse, knows all the features of its parts and mechanisms, then he will be able to turn off this device with his own hands.
It should be noted that it is important not only to disable it correctly, but also to enable it. If you follow the rules and have knowledge about the insides of the VAZ-2110, you can perform this procedure yourself; do not contact a specialist. For those who find it difficult to understand the written instructions, it is best to watch a video that explains in detail how to disable the immobilizer on a car of this brand.
How do immobilizers work on VAZ 2110, 2112, 2111 cars?
The main features of all immobilizers are the same, but additional features differ from each other. Since we are talking about a standard VAZ 2110 immobilizer, it has the following capabilities and functions:
- when attempting to steal, it creates electrical interference that prevents the engine from performing its job properly;
- blocks all movement systems automatically and completely;
- can connect to the hood lock, control the closing or unlocking of door locks;
- There is a possibility of emergency shutdown of the system and its setting to service mode.
The standard immobilizer does not allow the VAZ owner to connect additional locking relays or use many keys to control the system.
Security is disabled only if the owner of the vehicle opens the car and has the immobilizer key with him. The system instantly recognizes this key and gives a command to terminate the security mode. The immobilizer and its key are a single system, but they work separately, which is very convenient.
ALTERNATIVE ENGINE STARTING PROCEDURE
This procedure allows you to start the engine for one trip without reading the code from the working (black) key in case of its loss or malfunction of the anti-theft system. The procedure becomes possible only when the car owner himself allows it, by programming a “bypass password” consisting of six digits.
Depending on which controller is installed on your car, learning the “bypass password” and the method of bypassing immobilization is performed in two different ways.
How to extend the life of a generator
We figured out a little about the question of which generator is better to install on the VAZ-2110 by listening to the opinions of experts. Now is the time to talk about how to extend the life of a current generator without repairing or replacing components. You will definitely find these tips useful:
- carefully avoid puddles, and if it is impossible to avoid them, then cross the water at minimum speed. This must be done because water getting on the hot winding will lead to cracking of the varnish insulation. The next puddle, overcome at high speed, will already lead to a short circuit of the winding;
- Washing the engine can also lead to a similar problem. You need to carefully pack the generator in plastic in advance. Require drying of the engine with compressed air; after this procedure, try not to immediately load the generator, including all consumers. And don't accelerate too hard for a while to avoid sudden temperature changes;
- Never help start a stalled car using your battery without turning off your engine. Double load can literally kill your generator;
- do not unnecessarily connect all consumers of the on-board network, this will create an excessive load on the generator, especially if the generator is standard;
- check the tension level of the alternator belt more often and tighten it if necessary;
- Never remove the terminal from the battery without fully loading the generator, otherwise the voltage regulator will fail.
If you listen to these tips, your generator will last longer.
If the generator is seriously damaged, it does not have to be repaired, but completely replaced. Parts necessary for repair may be missing, or the breakdown may not be repairable at all. Meanwhile, the on-board voltage and the quality of battery charging depend on the good operation of the power unit. It's a shame when, despite a good motor, electrical equipment does not work properly.
And if we are talking about VAZ cars, then sometimes a replacement is in demand due to the lack of power of standard devices. Modern automakers offer many additional devices that increase the level of comfort when traveling, but they also consume a large amount of electricity, and old devices cannot cope, so they have to be replaced with more powerful ones.
ARMING
The anti-theft system switches to security mode automatically after the ignition is turned off and depends on the situation and the actions of the driver. If the driver's door was not opened or was open and not closed, then arming occurs after 5 minutes; if the driver's door was open and closed, then arming occurs 30 seconds from the moment the door is closed.
In all cases, 15 seconds before arming the system, the buzzer starts beeping at an accelerating pace. If arming is not desired, then you must turn the key to the “ignition” position.
