Error P2135 is called “Throttle position sensor circuits 1 and 2 plausibility error”. Its appearance is associated with an error in the electronic throttle control, which in modern cars has replaced the mechanical one. Thus, error p2135, as a rule, appears when a large resistance occurs on one of the four wires going to the throttle position sensor (TPS).
Throttle position sensor
What does error P2135 mean?
Trouble code P2135 is a general trouble code that indicates that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected that the throttle position sensors A and B or the accelerator pedal position sensors A and B are inconsistent. with a friend. The vehicle's PCM receives data from these sensors in the form of voltage signals. It constantly compares the sensor readings with each other, as well as with the values specified in the manufacturer's specifications. The readings from sensors “A” and “B” should be approximately the same. If a discrepancy is detected, the P2135 error code will be stored in the computer's memory and the Check Engine light will illuminate on the vehicle's dashboard, indicating the presence of a malfunction.
A little about car idling
Idling refers to the operation of the power unit in a static position of the car, that is, when the car is stationary and the neutral gear is engaged.
When the engine operates this way, the load on it is negligible, and, therefore, fuel consumption is low. Idling is usually used to warm up the system in winter frosts in order to disperse the oil and prevent freezing. This mode is also used when it is impossible to turn off the motor.
During normal idling, the tachometer needle points to 2,000 rpm and slowly drops to eight hundred rpm. But, if there is a failure in the system, then the revolutions seem to live their own lives, sometimes soaring to incredible heights, sometimes falling to the very bottom.
In this case, the revolutions can fluctuate from a minimum of five hundred to a maximum of one and a half thousand revolutions per minute.
This happens especially often in new VAZ models equipped with an electronic pedal, E-gas, which, on the one hand, opens up new horizons for the driver, and on the other, gives him even more headaches in troubleshooting such fragile and unreliable electronic equipment.
It is worth saying that determining the true cause of an idle problem is not an easy process, but if you leave everything as is, it can lead to serious problems, which may result in a complete stop of the engine and the need for expensive repairs.
And now about all the problems and how to fix them in more detail.
Causes of error P2135
The most common causes of error P2135 are:
- Malfunction of one or more throttle position sensors
- Malfunction of one or more accelerator pedal position sensors
- Short circuit or break in the electrical wires related to the throttle position sensors or accelerator pedal position sensors
- Loose, corroded, or damaged throttle position sensor or accelerator pedal position sensor connectors
- Powertrain control module (PCM) malfunction
Symptoms
Most of the symptoms of a malfunction make it possible to identify a faulty unit without resorting to the services of a car diagnostician. First of all, this is a discrepancy in the car’s response to pressing the gas pedal. Also, error p2135 on a VAZ 2114 with e gas causes the following:
- Unstable engine operation;
- Swimming revolutions;
- Delay in pressing or releasing the gas pedal;
- Car jerks when driving;
- Failures during acceleration;
- Limitation of maximum engine speed;
- Power reduction;
- Independent gain or loss of speed.
How does a mechanic diagnose a P2135 code?
When diagnosing this error, the mechanic will do the following:
- Connects the OBD-II scanner to the vehicle's diagnostic connector and reads all stored data and error codes
- Will clear the error codes from the computer's memory and test drive the vehicle to see if the P2135 code appears again
- If the error code appears again, visually inspect the electrical wires and connectors related to the throttle position sensors and accelerator pedal position sensors
- If necessary, repair or replace all shorted, broken, damaged or corroded components.
- If the problem persists, measure the voltage and resistance of the throttle position sensors and accelerator pedal position sensors using a multimeter
- Compares the obtained values with the values specified in the manufacturer's specifications and, if necessary, replaces the faulty sensor
- If no problem is found, check and replace the powertrain control module (PCM) if necessary.
Problems and solutions
There are a lot of reasons for unstable idle, and they apply to both carburetor and injection engines and even diesel engines, both to the old type design and to the new E-gas pedal, which AvtoVAZ is so proud of. Let's start with the problems that occur in carburetor-type engines:
- The fuel-air mixture has become lean. To fix the problem, you just need to make an adjustment to the level of eight hundred revolutions.
- Unstable running can also occur due to wear on the carburetor valve. In this case, the engine operates exclusively with the choke mode extended. To fix the problem, you need to replace the defective part with a new one.
- It also happens that the system channels become dirty. Then the fuel does not receive the required portion of air and leads to failure. Here you just need to clean the channels.
What repairs can fix P2135?
To resolve error P2135 you may need to:
- Replacing one or more throttle position sensors
- Replacing one or more accelerator pedal position sensors
- Repair or replacement of electrical wires related to throttle position sensors or accelerator pedal position sensors
- Repair or replacement of throttle position sensor or accelerator pedal position sensor connectors
- Replacing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Standards
On average, the correct ratio of air to fuel is 15 kilograms to 1. When:
- more oxygen is supplied than normal - the mixture is called lean;
- if there is more gasoline - rich.
In some cases, the proportion is violated, but control over it is entirely the prerogative of the ECU; it receives data from different sensors. Problems with a lean mixture are indicated by a noticeable decrease in fuel consumption against the backdrop of a drop in engine power.
If too much gasoline enters the injector, then you will have to refuel more often. At the same time, there are several rather dangerous nuances that cannot be discounted under any circumstances.
Consequences of an incorrect mixture
Traction problems cannot be ignored, even if you are satisfied with gas consumption and have become accustomed to sluggish reactions. Violations in the composition of the fuel mixture lead to engine repairs - over time, valves and even pistons burn out! Naturally, in such cases no one will blame themselves - HBO is assigned as the culprit.
When your car stalls, we recommend that you do not delay your visit to the service station. If the installation was carried out recently, then a manufacturing defect cannot be ruled out. Then they will simply replace the faulty element under warranty. For cars with 2nd generation equipment, we recommend calling in for seasonal diagnostics - when the seasons change, refinement adjustments of the gearbox are often required.
Understanding Grant's electronic throttle
The problem is that throttle body suppliers have made sure that their sales are constantly growing. To do this, they made the electronic part of the throttle non-separable. It turns out that I received error P2135 - buy a new throttle assembly.
In most cases, of course, this is what you should do. However, at least to make sure that the unit is faulty, it is worth disassembling it. To do this, we will use a sharp knife to cut the plastic cover of the electronic damper and barbarously pry it away from the body.
Under the cover we find sliders and resistor tracks on the inside of the board. We assess their condition. If the tracks and contacts of the sliders are badly worn, it is useless to fight for the life of the throttle.
If the problem is simply oxidation or lack of contact, we can clean the tracks, unsolder the board, and check its condition from the inside.
If the restoration has taken place, which can be easily verified using a household multimeter, we assemble the throttle assembly and solder the board.
The lid will have to be sealed so that not a drop of moisture gets inside. To ensure that the sealant tightly binds the lid to the body, we use ordinary plastic ties.
Rules for the safe use of gas cylinders
When operating compressed gas containers, certain safety rules must be observed.
Moving a gas cylinder
In particular, the following must not be allowed:
- Gas leaks through joints and threaded connections and the formation of an explosive mixture with air.
- Thermal effects on containers, which can lead to an increase in gas volume and pressure inside the container.
- Impact-type mechanical influences that can damage the walls of the container.
Safety regulations require that containers be transported with protective caps installed on them.
Vessels containing gas can be transported from place to place in a horizontal or vertical position. But at the same time, it is necessary to ensure protection against spontaneous movement of containers inside the body.
It is unacceptable to throw gas containers and hit them against hard objects.
Rules for the safe use of gas cylinders
It is unacceptable to store a gas container in a residential area. Ideally, the gas container should be stored in a separate iron box.
Common Engine Power Loss Problems
In most cases, decreased traction is caused by the following reasons:
1. Low quality fuel. If the car loses its power immediately after leaving the gas station, then the cause of the problem is the low quality of gasoline. The result is a loss of power when the engine is hot. In the worst case, problems arise with the plant of the power unit.
The only way out in this case is to completely drain the old fuel and fill it with new fuel. If this is not done, then you can completely destroy the power unit.
The main symptom of bad gasoline is not only a loss of engine power. Often the problem manifests itself as difficulty starting, the appearance of carbon deposits on the contact group of the spark plugs and a reddish coating on their “skirts”.
2. Clogged air filter. Often the engine does not develop full power for a simpler reason - due to contamination of the air filter. This is easy to explain - the air-fuel mixture enters the engine without a sufficient volume of air, which worsens the quality of its combustion. As a result, the agility of the power unit also decreases.
The easiest way to solve the problem is to install a new filter element. As a rule, it costs mere pennies, and you can make the replacement yourself and without the involvement of expensive specialists.
3. Dirty or old spark plugs. If you haven't changed the spark plugs in your engine for a long time, you should definitely do it. Contamination of the electrodes on the spark plugs, excessive wear, changes in the gap - all this can affect the quality of ignition and the efficiency of combustion of the air-fuel mixture.
In this case, you need to do two things - figure out the reasons for the contamination of the spark plugs (if they have been changed recently) and install new ones.
4. Clogged fuel filter. Some beginners do not even know about the existence of such a device. In fact, the fuel filter plays a key role in engine performance.
If the device is clogged with various “garbage”, then a limited amount of fuel will flow to the engine. The result is a sharp decrease in power. In this case, the best solution is to simply replace the fuel filter.
5. Mechanical problems with the engine. In the worst cases, the reason for the decrease in power is a malfunction of the power unit itself - a decrease in compression, wear of the piston rings, a change in the valve clearance, and so on. In such situations, you cannot do without a trip to specialists and engine repair.
6. Fuel system. Another reason for the decrease in thrust of the power unit is malfunctions in the fuel supply system. We are talking about a whole group of problems here:
- Malfunction of the oxygen sensor or injector;
- fuel pump failure. For example, due to poor fuel quality or gasoline being drawn in from the bottom of the tank (this is where the most dirt settles);
- depressurization of tubes and hoses through which fuel is supplied, and so on.
7. Contamination of the catalyst and exhaust system is also one of the reasons for the reduction in thrust of the power unit. To eliminate the problem, it is necessary to replace the catalyst. At the same time, you need to be prepared for certain expenses, because such a part can be very expensive.
Cylinder selection
The first thing you will need to decide is the type and placement of the gas cylinder for your car. For example, for classic VAZ or Moskvich models in a 4-door version, it is better to use a “cigar” type cylinder, which is located behind the rear seats in the trunk. For the front-wheel drive VAZ family of three or five door modifications, the optimal choice would be to use a “Thor” type cylinder instead of a spare wheel (which will allow you to easily use the entire trunk volume with the rear seat folded).
For “Tavriy” and “Slavuta” it is best and most optimal to use a small “cigar” type cylinder located outside the car, which will allow you to “save” the useful volume of the trunk and allow you to use all the advantages of LPG.
