Let's figure out why the throttle gets clogged
Like any vehicle component, the throttle valve must be serviced periodically.
A common problem with this unit is blockage. The throttle can become clogged for several reasons:
- Dust on the roads. Despite the location of the damper after the air filter, dust particles still enter the throttle air duct. If the filter itself is already dirty, then larger dust fractions enter the choke.
- Crankcase ventilation. On many modern cars, crankcase gases are cleared of oil in the oil separator and enter through the throttle into the intake system along with ordinary air. This principle is being implemented to comply with environmental standards.
- Exhaust gas recirculation. This system began to be used relatively recently, but has already become popular among automakers. The exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold again flow through the throttle into the intake for afterburning.
Algorithm of actions for identifying a throttle malfunction
It is important to understand that the most reliable way is to download error codes to a smartphone or PC using the diagnostic connector. But, if this is not possible or the connector does not work, you can verify that the node is faulty using the following algorithm:
- Check the air duct for foreign objects, dirt, water, etc. If necessary, clean the channels.
- Make sure the air filter is suitable.
- Use a tester to check the functionality of the accelerator pedal position sensor.
- Test the functionality of the idle air control.
- In the same way, rule out malfunction of the damper position sensor, as well as the electric motor.
- If everything is in order, then it makes sense to disassemble the assembly and verify the integrity and functionality of the damper itself.
All measurements with the tester must be made with the ignition on and at different positions of the accelerator pedal.

How to clean the throttle body on a VAZ 2110. how often should you clean the throttle body
How to adapt the gas pedal?
We carry out adaptation either after repair, replacement of the computer, or long-term removal of the battery.
- We connect the battery.
- We insert the key for the first time after installing the battery and turn it to the “ignition” position. The indicators on the panel light up, wait at least 30 seconds and start the engine. Important: the temperature of the air and the engine must be at least 7 degrees warmer, otherwise adaptation is useless, the engine will operate in emergency mode.
- Next, we adapt the ignition diagnostic function: we accelerate in second gear and brake with the engine at 4 thousand rpm. Up to 1 thousand rpm - we must perform this operation six times during one trip.
Adaptation of the diagnostic function is necessary to preserve the catalyst and possible fire.
The importance of the throttle valve adaptation procedure can hardly be underestimated, and not every car enthusiast knows how to perform this operation on their own.
Cleaning the throttle body of Lada Granta 8 valve
How to properly clean the throttle valve
Tools:
- Medium Phillips screwdriver
- 5 mm hex key
Parts and consumables:
Notes:
The main symptoms of a dirty throttle valve are:
- Floating idle
- Difficulty starting the engine
- Car jerking when driving at minimum speeds
The damper is contaminated by carbon deposits and oil vapor from the crankcase ventilation system, so it is advisable to clean it every 40-50 thousand km.
1. Remove the throttle assembly. Contamination is visible on the throttle valve and on the assembly channel.
2. Treat the internal cavity of the throttle assembly, the throttle valve itself, its axis and the walls of the air channel with an aerosol cleaner.
Note:
It is advisable to avoid getting the product on the plastic part of the throttle assembly and the electrical connector.
3. Wipe off heavy dirt with a rag and re-treat with an aerosol.
4. Check the results of cleaning the throttle assembly.
5. The cleaned throttle assembly must be dried and installed back on the vehicle.
Perhaps this is exactly the case when one should not interfere with a properly working mechanism, because... There were no indications for surgical intervention in the Granta throttle assembly.
The engine is running. Idle speed does not float. The response of the throttle to the electronic accelerator takes place in normal mode. Occasionally, while standing at a traffic light, I noticed that the tachometer needle was trying to unobtrusively change its position, but the electronics quickly eliminated this incident. In early spring, one could refer to a certain amount of condensation that sometimes appears in the fuel system. Now, May. Warm. But sometimes the arrow still tries to “twitch”.
The situation is not annoying, but the mileage is under 17,000 km. indicates that behind the throttle it is not at all the same as it was in the first hundreds of kilometers.
I did not contact the “dealer” service station, where Grant was under warranty, to clean the throttle. After we “adjusted” the thermal clearances of the valves during maintenance-1, there was no desire to communicate with such “specialists”.
It’s high time for AVTOVAZ to check its dealers and subdealers for high-quality performance of work when undergoing scheduled maintenance of warranty vehicles. There are enough statistics. And those who are negligent will be punished with a ruble so that the desire to run an official car service will no longer exist once and for all.
If adjusting the “valves,” for me, still requires consolidating the experience gained, then with cleaning the throttle valve, everything is much simpler.
What you needed: * Hex key 5 mm. * Star key T-20. * Flute brush. * Lubricant. * Thread locker. * New bolts with washers, made of stainless steel. * Phillips and slotted screwdriver. * Cheap degreaser. * Spray for cleaning carburetors and chokes. *Cotton rags. lint-free. *Disposable rag on a roll. *Rechargeable cylinders and a hand pump for them. *Waste bag.
Using the “Open Diag” program, we take screenshots of the throttle position before starting cleaning.
Increased idle speed, dips and jerks when accelerating the car, loss of power - all this indicates problems with the throttle valve, which needs to be removed and cleaned, or replaced, if cleaning does not give the desired result, the unpleasant phenomena persist.
The procedure for removing the throttle assembly on a LADA Granta car
To remove the damper you need to perform the following operations:
- The wire is disconnected from the negative terminal of the car battery.
- The tightening that secures the ventilation hose going to the engine crankcase is loosened.
- The hose attached to the fitting of the air supply pipe is disconnected.
- The clamp connecting the pipe and the throttle becomes loose.
- The pipe is disconnected.
- The connector connecting the wires to the throttle assembly is disconnected.
- The bolts securing the throttle valve are unscrewed.
- The gasket located on the flange of the intake module is dismantled.
It should be noted that the gasket is disposable; when dismantling it, it is necessary to subsequently install a new element.

Conclusion
A TPS failure is a serious situation for a car. This device is responsible for supplying fuel to the engine and, if malfunctioning, can lead to a critical situation. If signs of failure are detected, it is advisable to replace the sensor, but in some cases, repairs can solve the problem faster and cheaper. Follow the procedure and use only original spare parts.
Diagnostics and repair of the throttle position sensor
This article will discuss the design of the throttle position sensor, diagnostics and symptoms of TPS , as well as its repair.
Throttle position sensor device
So, if you are wondering how the throttle position sensor works, then you should first consider the principle of its operation.
The throttle position sensor is a resistive type sensor. This name determines the principle of its operation, namely, if we disassemble this sensor, then inside we will find a moving element in the form of a slider that slides along a track in the form of an arc or horseshoe. A supply voltage is supplied to one end of this track, the other end of the track is connected to ground, and the output signal is removed from the movable slider.
Throttle Position Sensor Malfunction:
What malfunctions of the throttle position sensor are most often encountered in practice? If we ignore the faults associated with frayed wires leading to the sensor, etc. then we can highlight the main and most common malfunction of sensors of this type, namely wear of the resistive layer on the tracks along which the slider slides. As a rule, wear is observed in the initial section of the slider movement due to the most frequent use of this section. If you have disassembled the throttle sensor, then in most cases the wear of the resistive layer will be noticeable during a visual inspection, as in the photo presented.
The sensor is supplied with a 5V from the car's ECU, however, when measuring the voltage, you will see that the voltage on the sensor varies from 0.3-0.5 V in one position and up to 3.7-4.8 V in the fully open throttle position. This is done so that the ECU can identify a malfunction in the sensor circuit, be it a short circuit or an open circuit.
Features of the Lada Granta throttle assembly
How to properly clean and wash the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114
The throttle valve is turned by an electric motor through a gearbox. Both are built into the throttle body.
When starting and warming up the engine, as well as during idling, the flow of air into the cylinders is regulated by opening the throttle valve.
The throttle position is controlled by two sensors built into the throttle body.
The throttle valve opening angle is set by the electronic control unit (ECU) depending on the estimated amount of air that should enter the engine cylinders. This takes into account the operating mode of the engine (starting, warming up, idling, and so on), the temperature of the ambient air and the engine, and the position of the gas pedal.
Control commands are sent to the throttle assembly to the electric motor. At the same time, the ECU monitors the opening angle of the damper and, if necessary, sends appropriate commands to adjust its position. As a result of the fact that the ECU simultaneously regulates the amount of injected fuel and incoming air, the optimal composition of the combustible mixture is maintained in any engine operating mode.
The electric throttle body is sensitive to deposits that may accumulate on its inner surface. The resulting layer of deposits can interfere with the smooth movement of the throttle valve, jamming it (especially at low opening angles). As a result, the engine will operate unstably and even stall at idle, start poorly, and failures may also appear during transient conditions. To avoid this, as a preventive measure, deposits should be removed with special detergent compounds during regular vehicle maintenance. A large layer of deposits can completely block the movement of the damper. If flushing fails to restore the throttle assembly to operability, it must be replaced.
A malfunction or incorrect operation of the throttle assembly may be caused by a broken contact in its electrical circuit (oxidized terminals in the wiring harness connection block). In this case, it will be possible to restore operation by treating the terminals with a special compound for cleaning and protecting electrical contacts. There are other possible causes of the malfunction:
— no supply voltage is supplied to the throttle assembly;
— signals are not received from both throttle position sensors;
— The computer cannot recognize signals from the throttle position sensors.
In these cases, the engine control system goes into emergency mode. At the same time, the car retains the ability to independently move a short distance at a slow speed, which, in extreme cases, will allow it to be moved to a safe place (pull to the side of the road, leave an intersection, etc.).
The fact that the throttle assembly is operating in emergency mode may be indicated by a burning warning lamp for a malfunction of the engine management system and an increased speed of the crankshaft at idle (about 1500 rpm, despite the fact that the engine is warmed up to operating temperature). it will not respond to pressing the gas pedal.
Each of the throttle position sensors is a potentiometer. During operation, gradual wear of conductive paths and moving contacts occurs. Over time, wear can reach such an extent that the sensor cannot function correctly. The presence of two sensors increases the reliability of the entire unit.
If only one sensor fails, the warning lamp will light up, but the engine management system will switch to backup mode. In this case, the engine will respond adequately to pressing the gas pedal, but with worse performance parameters
The reserve mode allows you to drive your car to the repair site under your own power.
Oxygen concentration sensor (lambda probe) Lada Granta
This device is intended to assess the remaining unburnt fuel, and also estimates the amount of oxygen contained in the vehicle exhaust. The catalog number of the lambda probe on Grants is 21074-3850010-00.
The signal from the oxygen concentration sensor on the Lada Granta is used by the control system to ensure the optimal proportion between air and gasoline in the combustion chamber; based on the information received from the DC, the ECU makes corrections in the composition of the mixture of air and gasoline. The lambda probe is installed in the Granta intake system, or more precisely, in the catalytic converter.

The main signs of failure of the described element include:
- significantly increased fuel consumption;
- floating speed of an idling engine;
- problems when accelerating a car.
How to clean the throttle valve
There are a number of special products designed to clean the surface of the throttle valve. Some craftsmen use WD-40, acetone, solvents and other similar compounds for this. In principle, they can be used, but the risk of damaging something inside the engine increases. Today, car dealerships sell a large number of special products for carrying out this procedure. All of them are relatively inexpensive. Therefore, taking into account the fact that the throttle valve does not need to be cleaned so often, any car owner is able to purchase such a product.
Name of the product | Description | average price | Notes |
LIQUI MOLY DrosselKlappen-Reiniger (LM-5111) | The best throttle body cleaner available today. Cleans dirt and oil deposits efficiently. | 520 rub. | Aerosol, volume 400 ml in a cylinder. |

Results
If the malfunctions described above occur, check the condition of the throttle valve. Cleaning it is not very difficult. However, if you clean it, the dynamic characteristics of the car will improve significantly. Therefore, do not forget to regularly clean the damper every 30.50 thousand kilometers. As for cleaning products, use any of the ones listed above. Fortunately, they are inexpensive, so they are available to any car enthusiast.
Cleaning some car systems is a mandatory task for the modern car owner. The fact is that Russian operating conditions do not spare certain components of the vehicle. Poor quality of gasoline, not very careful operation, dubious origin of materials for maintenance - all this imposes certain difficulties on the operation of the machine. The fuel supply system suffers especially, as it takes on the blow of all factors at once, including harsh climate. Cars have a hard time in Russia, and we have to agree with this. But there are a number of ways to protect your car from problems or return it to its original working condition.
The first thing a car owner needs to remember is the quality of service. Buy original oil, which can cost several times more than universal oil. This way you will protect the engine from many unpleasant influences. It is also worth using good gasoline, which is often not the cheapest. If problems have already arisen, you need to start cleaning the car, and then draw conclusions about proper maintenance and operation. The most common problem in Russian cars is a clogged throttle valve. Let's consider the features of this trouble.
Cleaning without removal
Also, many car owners are interested in the question of how to clean the throttle valve without removing it. Such methods do exist, but you must immediately understand that high-quality cleaning is only possible by dismantling the damper .
To do this, you will need a special product - an intake tract cleaner. You can use different brands. You can also use EGR valve cleaning fluid, WD-40, and solvents for cleaning.
So, the procedure without removing the node :
- As in the previous algorithm, you need to remove the air duct to get to the damper.
- With the damper closed, spray the surface with cleaning liquid and remove the cleaned dirt using a rag.
- Open the damper and remove dirt from the side surface.
- Make sure that the cleaning agent gets into all channels. The cleaning procedure is similar using a rag.
Let us repeat once again that for proper cleaning, the throttle valve must be removed from the car. And when installing it back, it is advisable to replace the damper gasket with a new one. Fortunately, its price is low.
It should also be remembered that in most cases, after cleaning the throttle valve, it is necessary to perform actions to “train” it . This procedure is carried out either using a computer (by connecting it to the car's ECU), or by manipulating the ignition and gas pedal. In this case, it is impossible to give universal recommendations, since they can differ significantly for each manufacturer and even model. Remember this!
Throttle learning idle
After flushing the unit or reflashing the ECU, the throttle valve should be trained to idle. To do this, fulfill the following conditions:
- check the voltage on the battery with the engine off, it should be at least 12.9 V;
- the coolant temperature should be in the range from 70 to 100 degrees;
- the steering wheel must be in a neutral position;
- The gearbox oil must be warmed up;
- all electrical consumers are turned off;
- automatic transmission handle in position P.
Failure to comply with the above requirements will lead to incorrect operation of the engine, so they must be followed. After warming up the engine, you must:
- turn off the ignition for 10 seconds;
- make sure that the accelerator pedal is in the up position;
- turn the key to the ON position for 3 seconds (do not start the engine);
- Press the gas pedal all the way 5 times within 5 seconds and release it for the last time;
- after 7 seconds, press the gas pedal all the way and wait until the “CHESK ENGINE” display lights up continuously;
- After pausing for 3 seconds, release the gas pedal.
Try to start the car, the attempt can be repeated several times. During stable operation, rev the throttle several times and the idle speed should return to the acceptable range.
The procedure for learning the throttle using a PC and car programs has its own specifics, depending on the brand of car, etc. Therefore, it makes no sense to describe the entire process in detail. But first you need to install special software on your PC, for example, VAG-COM for a VAG car group (or other) and drivers. The following is the standard connection order for all:
- turning on the ignition;
- connecting the PC to the car diagnostic connector with an information wire;
- launching software on a PC;
- conducting a test;
- receiving information about readiness for further work - the inscription: “The adapter is ready for work.”
Following a special algorithm, you will be able to coordinate the remote control and the ECU in the “throttle fully open/fully closed” modes for cars with both an electronic and mechanical gas pedal. In this case, the throttle valve training is carried out when the car is warm and the above requirements are met.
What benefits does cleaning the throttle valve in your car provide?
Cleaning any component of the machine allows you to return to high-quality operation of the equipment. This is why oil and fuel filters are replaced, small systems and important components of your car are cleaned during the service process. But the standard maintenance procedure does not include flushing the throttle body. The problem of clogging this element can occur on any car, because every internal combustion engine uses this unit to distribute fuel among the cylinders of the power unit. Cleaning the throttle valve may be necessary when the car shows the following problems:
- at idle speed when the engine is warm, the tachometer needle floats, changing the speed range;
- on an automatic transmission, jerking becomes noticeable, especially when switching from first gear to second;
- fuel consumption increases - often the engine begins to consume 10-20 percent more gasoline;
- Certain tremors appear at idle or when the unit operates stable at the same speed;
- the engine pulls worse, there is a delayed reaction to pressing the gas pedal or the car “chokes”;
- Dips may occur (most often on a manual transmission) when accelerating.
Typical TPS problems
A malfunction of the throttle sensor can be determined by the following symptoms:
- increase in speed intensity when the load is off;
- deterioration of dynamic performance;
- the appearance of jerks when picking up speed;
- sudden stopping of the engine in neutral;
- warning light with a light bulb.
In addition, there are other malfunctions. One of the most common is a decrease in the base coating thickness in the initial part of the slider stroke. This prevents the linear voltage level of the output signal from increasing. Another causal relationship may lie in the failure of the movable core. The breakage of one tip contributes to the appearance of a large number of burrs at the base. As a result, others also break, causing the slider to lose contact with the resistive part.
You can test the throttle sensor yourself by following these steps. The first step is to start the ignition; if the warning light does not light up, then we take the converter directly. Using a multimeter, you should measure the potential difference between “−” and the slider wire. The obtained parameters should not be higher than 0.7 V.
Next, you need to expand the sector to fully open the damper. Then you should recheck the voltage again. The readings must be at least 4 V. After this, you need to turn on the ignition and remove the connector. Again measure the resistance at the point of contact of the slider with one of the terminals. While scrolling the sector, monitor the multimeter readings.
The pointer should be moved gently and slowly, since shocks and sudden vibrations indicate a breakdown. The smooth operation of the device depends on the condition of the film resistor.
There are several types of throttle position sensor: film-resistive and non-contact. The first of them is installed by the manufacturer, the second is chosen by the car owner while driving and operating the car. The service life of the TPS may vary depending on the quality and adherence to technology in the manufacture of the device. The standard unit may not need to be changed even for 60,000 km, and sometimes it requires replacement even after 5,000 km.
When purchasing a throttle sensor, the price depends on the choice of its type:
- Film-resistive ones are the most frequently purchased among motorists due to their budget price, but their service life practically does not stand up to criticism;
- Contactless - at a higher cost (almost twice) the long period of use covers all costs. The high-quality operation of the device is due to the principle of magnetoresistance. When purchasing, you should be aware that this type of device operates at a DC voltage proportional to the throttle valve opening angle in the electric motor fuel injection system.
The sensor shaft rotates clockwise from the damper side. The service life guarantee is 3 years. Drivers do not repair the resistive sensor, but replace it with a contactless one - it is undoubtedly more reliable. Its design includes a rotor and a stator. The rotor is not affected by the magnetic field, because there is a magnet at its base. The stator is a part that is quite sensitive to the electromagnetic field. Its assembly is associated with programming, so a device of this category is often used for installation in electrical control units.
Signs of a malfunction of the TPS
The throttle position sensor plays a big role in the process of fuel combustion, because it is supplied in the calculation of device readings. If the sensor is faulty, a "Check" notification should appear on the dashboard. Such an icon only indicates the fact of a malfunction, but does not recognize a specific problem. Signs of failure may include:
- Difficulty starting the engine;
- Increased gasoline consumption;
- Increase idle speed;
- “Dips” in speed during acceleration;
- The engine stops in neutral;
- Motor power drops during movement;
- The Check Engine light appears.
It is worth noting that “Check Engine” may appear with each ignition for a split second, then immediately disappear. A sign of a breakdown is a constant glow of the indicator. It is recommended to contact a mechanic.
Cleaning the throttle valve yourself
There are many designs of the throttle assembly, each with its own nuances, but the general principle is the same everywhere. First, let's give some general recommendations:
- if you start cleaning, then the throttle must be removed completely in order to clean the inside walls of the housing along with the external surfaces;
- do not use hard brushes or rough rags for cleaning and wiping; on some cars they can damage the special molybdenum layer, which is applied by the manufacturer to improve air permeability;
- do not touch the throttle valve unless necessary; on some cars the cleaning procedure is carried out once every 100,000 km (depending on the brand);
- Be sure to “train” the damper after cleaning, if this is suggested by the manufacturer.
Let's look at this process using the Subaru Impreza WRX as an example.
1. First, remove the pipe going from the air filter to the throttle. The pipe is held on a clamp; to remove it, simply loosen the screw on the clamp.
2. Disconnect two hoses (secured with clamp clamps), one from the front, the other from the back. We disconnect the contact going to the throttle.
3. Unscrew the four bolts that secure the assembly to the intake manifold body.
4. We clean the unit with a special liquid for washing carburetors - carb cleaner. Use any brand, but do not buy very cheap bottles from dubious stores. The average price per can is 100-150 rubles. Use soft rags for wiping.
5. If possible, change the rubber gasket. It costs around 25-100 rubles for different brands and models of car.
6. Putting everything back together in reverse order.
7. If required, we carry out “training” of the throttle, that is, a new adaptation of the ECU - we show the electronics the extreme positions of the damper so that the unit understands when the throttle is open and when it is closed.
Cleaning algorithm
Now we will give a step-by-step algorithm for properly cleaning the throttle valve.
- First of all, you need to get to the damper itself. The design is different in different engines. But as a rule, to do this you need to remove the air duct that runs from the damper to the air filter.
- Dismantle the damper. To do this, unscrew several mounting bolts (2-4 pieces), and also disconnect the necessary connectors (for example, the connector from the absorber purge valve).
- To clean, you must use a carburetor cleaner. There is a wide variety of them, and in auto stores you can easily find a product in accordance with your preferences and capabilities (we will talk about them later).
- Using a rag and the mentioned product, you must thoroughly wipe the damper outside and inside.
- You also need to clean the protective grille (if your car has one).
- Assembly of the unit is carried out in the reverse order.
An easy way to clean your throttle body
The correct way to clean the throttle body
Cleaning the throttle valve on the grant
Hi all! Guys, how can I clean the throttle on a Grant 8 valve? The revs have been fluctuating lately, they say that the idle speed sensor is clogged, they decided to clean it, and with it the throttle valve, but for some reason I’m afraid to clean it with kerosene, they seem to write that there is some kind of Teflon coating on it.. If you erase it, the speed will fluctuate. Who thinks what?
Carburetor/throttle cleaner aerosol, remove the terminal from the battery, remove the throttle and spray and do not touch the throttle with your hands
Before cleaning, it’s better to look at what % it is open on a warm engine at xx. And then the speed can jump for various reasons, and even a faulty adsorber will also give incorrect readings.
You unscrew it and see how dirty it is after cleaning, do an adaptation of the throttle
I cleaned it carefully with a cloth and warm soapy water, only then it needs to be adapted.
And how much is the mileage, if it’s not a secret? Why are you planning to do such a procedure, and even on your own...
Carb cleaner, soft cloth. Just don’t try to touch the valve with your hands. You'll mess up the calibration.
How do you know if you mess up the calibration?
The electronic damper is calibrated and cannot be moved. If you move it with your hands (open - close), you can throw it away; it will not work normally. Carefully pour in carb cleaner and wipe with a soft cloth. The whole hat will dissolve anyway.
A very effective product - aerosol, carbon deposits, all the blackness flows off in the same second. No rags are needed. I cleaned it on an old grant with 40 thousand of crap in it on a Brobeg...
You probably got it wrong on e-gas, there is no rxx, there at idle the throttle itself is slightly open, and the adaptation is - after assembly, turn on the ignition, wait 40-50 seconds and start it, somewhere it says that after waiting you need to turn off the ignition and start it back up, but on my Kalina car the car stalled, there was no traction, then I reset the ECU with initialization and after waiting 40-50 seconds, I didn’t turn off the ignition, but started it right away, everything worked fine, that’s all the throttle adaptation
Cleaning the damper
If the cause of poor engine performance is contamination of the throttle, it is necessary to clean it. To do this, you need to purchase a special engine cleaning product and start doing the work:
- Remove the valve body in the order indicated above
- Spray with the product and leave for a while (as indicated on the package)
- Using a clean napkin or other cloth, remove the layer of dirt and carbon deposits.
- Repeat the procedure several times until all parts are shiny.
It is also recommended to remove and clean the idle speed control and the channel in which it is located. Be sure to check the condition of the air filter, since an unsuitable filter can not only cause contamination of the throttle body, but also affect the operation of the engine as a whole and cause you a lot of trouble. Good luck on the roads!

Mechanical or electric damper: which is better?
We found out that the throttle valve is the very valve that makes the engine spin faster or slower, regulating the supply of oxygen to its cylinders.
Now let's look at the varieties of this device and their design. There are the following types of dampers:
- with mechanical drive;
- with electric drive.
The mechanical system is a classic and is found not only on old cars, but also on quite modern ones, but only in the budget segment.
Its essence lies in the fact that the connection between the gas pedal and the damper is carried out by a simple metal cable. The logic of the device’s operation is elementary - press the gas, the throttle opens and lets air into the cylinders.
In addition to the rotating damper itself and the cable going to it, the assembly includes a position sensor and an idle speed regulator.
The purpose of the first is clear - the sensor monitors how far the damper has opened and transmits this information, for example, to the engine control unit.
As for the regulator, it is needed so that at idle the engine receives the portion of oxygen necessary for minimum speed. It is a separate small valve with an electric drive.
What is an Electric Throttle?
It is much more modern and technologically advanced. The main difference from the mechanical system is that there is no direct connection with the pedal; everything is controlled electronically.
In this case, individual sensors monitor how hard we press the gas and the computer decides how much to deflect the throttle using an electric drive.
By the way, in this version there is no need to install a separate valve to adjust the idle speed - the air passes through the main throttle valve in any case.
By the way, the advantages of the electrical system over the mechanical mass. Since the entire process is driven by electronics, it is possible to achieve better engine efficiency and lower emissions of harmful substances.
In short, mechanical options, although simple in design, are already obsolete not only physically, but also morally.
I hope that now you will not have the question: “What is a throttle valve and why is it needed?” Subscribe, because the publication of articles about the structure of cars continues.
How an electronic throttle works, what surprises it can present to you and why manufacturers install an electronic throttle and not the usual cable drive. What you should know and do to ensure that electronics serve reliably and without failure - read about everything in this very voluminous article.
Malfunction of the Lada Vesta throttle assembly
Throttle assembly problems are a common phenomenon on all modern cars, and Lada Vesta is no exception. The reason lies in the fact that this unit includes many components that are influenced by external and internal factors. It is important to make sure that the problem is a malfunction of the throttle assembly. Below is a list of elements whose damage can lead to similar symptoms:
- Accelerator pedal position sensor
- Throttle Motor
- Idle speed control
- Damper position sensor
- Mechanical elements of the case
- Air filter and air intake elements
- Electronic engine control unit
If any of these parts are damaged, signs of a malfunctioning throttle assembly may appear. Therefore, before rushing to the auto store for a new throttle assembly, it makes sense to conduct a detailed diagnosis of all the elements associated with it.
Cleaning + lubrication of the throttle valve - logbook Lada Granta Perseus 1.6l. 8kl. 2015 on DRIVE2
At the beginning of this entry, I thank everyone who writes about their experience, especially with detailed photo reports. I’ve seen enough and decided to follow in the well-trodden footsteps of throttle valve cleaners. I have already driven 41,000 km. Up to 25,000 I filled in 95 TNK (2 times 92 - there was no way out) .After this mileage, it’s only 95 Lukoil. My consumption on 95 Lukoil is 8.2-9.5 liters with air conditioning. The city and a big traffic jam in the morning to work/in the evening from work.…
I bought a throttle valve cleaner at BB (on the way to my parents in the village) and got into the engine jungle.
*I wanted to buy Liqui Moly for 319 rubles in METRO, but a toad appeared and took me out of the hypermarket*1. Remove the pipes from the throttle body and mass flow sensor and move them to the side2. We take a hexagon (I don’t know which one exactly. My father has a whole set
3. We briefly remember all the relatives of the founder of the AvtoVAZ company and... voila, it’s in your hands!
puff-puff-puff - half of the bottle is missing (520 ml full). You can wash 100 ml economically. Next, use a rag to wipe the contact area of the throttle at the engine inlet. I unscrewed the cap and read from the guys that there is no lubricant on the gears. And so it was. Guys don't lie)
A little CV joint and we mount this nonsense in place (I didn’t take a photo, sorry)
Why is this and what does it give?1. Let's assume 3500 rpm and 3rd gear. release the gas pedal and your car seems to be rushing back. This procedure gives an almost imperceptible reduction in speed. In general, as it was from the factory.2. Work on xx without flaws
3. Smoother response to the gas pedal *by the way, I didn’t dare open it - the bolts are sealed*
Smooth roads everyone!
Price: 142 ₽ Mileage: 41,000 km
Replacing TPS
- Removing the sensor from the car is necessary to install a new one. First of all, you need to turn off the electrical power by disconnecting the battery terminals. The wires that are connected to the device also need to be disconnected. After unscrewing the mounting bolts, the TPS can be removed. When installing a new, original spare part, no adjustment is required.
- Direct installation of a new device. To begin with, the spare part is connected to the electronic control unit, after which the terminal is put on the battery. With this algorithm of actions, all factory settings will be saved. Attention: it is important to install only original devices. A sensor from another car model is not suitable. The necessary device can be purchased in special stores or from an official representative of the car brand. Buying online or on the market most often leads to the acquisition of counterfeit goods. The choice of seller should be taken carefully and seriously.

Hello! It’s interesting, is it possible to do the same thing with the engine running on a Lada Granta with an electronic throttle? Has anyone pressed and sprayed it yourself? Do you think it will work out?
The gasket (white ring) of the damper is disposable and must be replaced after removal. It was dangerous to do this, because the cleaner could flood the contacts of the damper gearbox; you need to moisten a rag with the cleaner and wipe it with it. Adaptation of the damper must be done after cleaning (turn on the ignition and wait a minute and only then turn it off. Then at second speed, accelerate to 4 thousand and release the gas to one thousand, and so on 4 times)
As for adaptation - thanks, I'll try it the next time I clean it. But the first time I didn’t do anything - everything was fine.
Is it possible to change the position of the damper during washing or not? (open/close it with your finger)
not possible at all! If you open and close you will have to spend money
You can and should touch it to clean the damper from the end, then make an adaptation and you don’t need to spend any money

And if you close the flap, but don’t raise it, is it possible? to the closing position. And you can disassemble the assembly, will there be anything later? After MD tuning, the engine didn’t start)) it got dirty, it started, the revs fluctuated slightly around 900. then I drove off, the revs became 2 thousand! after 1 km of travel. and neither here nor there. they keep it that way. turned it off, started it, everything was fine. Some kind of hook (how to treat it? maybe he filled it with Felix
