Improved powertrain, suspension and gearbox are distinctive features of the vehicle compared to previous generation models. Both hatchbacks and station wagons were equipped with 1.6 liter engines with variable intake, the power of which varied between 87...106 hp. A manual or automatic transmission was installed.
The maximum configuration included the installation of anti-lock systems, stability control, air conditioning and navigation, a traction control module, an after-braking system, a passenger airbag, a touch screen, heated front seats, a rain sensor, etc.

What disks can I replace the factory ones with?
When purchasing products other than those offered by the manufacturer, the radius of the wheel should be taken into account; it should not differ much from the standard one. It is necessary to take into account the year of manufacture of the car and its equipment. The wheel parameters are absolutely independent of the body shape: whether it is a sedan, hatchback or station wagon.
When selecting disks for Kalina, you need to know the number of mounting holes and the diameter of the circle for their placement (drilling, LZ*PCD) - 4*98. The diameter of the main hole should correspond to the vehicle hub diameter (DIA) - 58.6. The offset values (ET) must be selected as recommended by the car manufacturer. Thus, for the first generation models 1117, 1118, 1119, wheels from R13 to R16 inches are suitable; width 5–6.5; ET 25–38; DIA 58.6; LZ*PCD 4*98. For the second generation 2192 and 2194, the following parameters are suitable: R from 14 to 16; width from 5.5 to 6.5; ET from 25 to 35; DIA and LZ*PCD - similar.

Tire pressure Kalina
This indicator plays an important role in car controllability. The grip of the tires on the road surface depends on the tire pressure. The condition of the wheels is especially important when driving on wet, slippery or snowy roads. During vehicle operation, tire pressure may drop, so its value must be periodically checked with a pressure gauge. If the indicator deviates from the standard values, the wheels should be inflated. It's not that difficult to do it yourself.
The pressure in the wheels installed on the front and rear axles is different.
The corresponding section of the instructions indicates what pressure in the Lada Kalina tires must be maintained: in the front - 2.2 bar, in the rear - 2.3 bar. This should be done if you are installing standard factory tires.

- The simplest configuration of the Lada Kalina is equipped with stamped wheels 5.0J x 13 ET40, which corresponds to 175/70/R13 tires. Such a small size is especially convenient for tire fitting, since you can even “change the shoes” of the car manually, and the car also becomes more passable on snowy roads.
- As standard, the manufacturer equips this car with wheels with the specifications 5.5J x 14 ET37 or 6.0J x 14 ET37, and the ideal tires for this size are 175/65/R14 and 185/60/R14, respectively. As a rule, they also come in the “stamping” version, but are covered with decorative plastic caps in the original version.
- More expensive modifications of the Kalina are equipped with 6.5J x 15 ET35 wheels and 195/50/R15 tires. According to the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union TR CU 018/2011, all car owners in our country are required to install special winter tires on their cars for the period from December to February. Moreover, regional authorities have the right to extend this period depending on specific climatic conditions. In addition, the need for seasonal wheel changes is confirmed by studies of tire manufacturers, which indicate a serious deterioration in the properties of summer tires at temperatures below +7 degrees.

The 60th profile is always cheaper than the 55th. In general, size 185/60/15 is more popular. Installing tires with a low profile (185/55 R15) increases fuel consumption.
Everything said here may be true. Only now, violation of VAZ recommendations leads to termination of the warranty, and in 100% of cases. Therefore, we will try to choose “spikes” of the following standard size – 185/55 R15:
- Hakkapeliitta 7 – tires designed for snow and asphalt at the same time. Good results when braking on a straight line. Good handling on snow and ice. However, “spikes” are poorly designed for dry asphalt.

Alternative winter tire options
In order to improve the driving characteristics of the car, many Kalina Cross car owners change the size of winter tires.
Wider tires increase the contact patch with the surface, which gives an advantage when driving on packed snow, but they are more susceptible to hydroplaning and are of little use for overcoming deep, loose snow.
Narrow tires, due to higher surface pressure, provide increased stability on icy roads and reduce braking distances. Also, wheels with a narrow tread push through loose snow porridge faster, reaching the hard surface.
Steel or light alloy: which is better and why

We choose and buy winter tires for the NEW Lada Kalina
The cold weather has arrived, which means it's time to think about choosing and buying winter tires. Our Kalina comes from the factory with all-season Kama-217 tires, which, theoretically, can be used even in winter. But I wouldn't recommend doing this. Safety on the road starts with tires, which must provide the necessary grip on the road surface. Kama-217 does not always cope with its duties even in summer, let alone in winter. Therefore, I suggest you start choosing good, safe winter tires, since the choice of such tires is quite wide.
First, we need to decide on the size of future tires. AVTOVAZ recommends installing the following types of wheels on the NEW Lada Kalina: 185/60 R14 and 175/65 R14. Moreover, the first of them is better suited for summer (a wider contact patch with asphalt improves the traction properties of the tire), and the second is better for winter (narrow tires are more passable).
Secondly, winter tires are sold both studded and friction (without studs). My personal experience of using friction tires in Moscow (where, by the way, they try to quickly remove snow from the main highways) allows me to say that for the Russian winter it is best to choose studded tires.

PS: Since writing the material, I have driven the NEW Kalina with winter tires for just over 500 km. According to my own feelings, Michelin X-Ice North 2 are excellent tires! They performed remarkably well on snow and clean asphalt, slush and ice (we now have frequent “ice rains”). A car with these tires listens well to the steering wheel and holds a straight line at speed. But there is one big, fat minus - Michelin X-Ice North 2 are terribly noisy! In fact, with them you feel like a helicopter pilot, not a car pilot. So, if you are not bothered by the hum and noise, then turn up the music louder and feel free to buy Michelin X-Ice North 2 while they are still in stock, because the next generation of Michelin X-Ice North 3 has already appeared on sale.

Cars of this brand, including Lada Kalina 2 and Kalina Sport, have wheels ranging from R13 to R 15. Each model has its own optimal size. You can also install the R14 on the Kalina Sport, and it will look like a regular Lada Kalina Station Wagon. When choosing disks, you need to remember a few general rules:
- The width of the rim should not be the same as the width of the tire section. The tire profile should be 25% larger. If you need to put wheels on a car with R15 tires, then the size of the wheels should be 5.5 inches.
- A very wide or very narrow rim spoils the profile of the tires; they lose lateral rigidity. In this case, the car loses maneuverability and resistance when skidding decreases, which can lead to an accident.
- You should not install alloy wheels of a larger size on your car than indicated on the passport. Low-profile tires are now in fashion, which allows you to install larger wheels without changing the size of the wheel itself. In this case, the main technical characteristics will not change either. The ground clearance and engine load will remain the same. Of course, the driving qualities of low-profile tires are better than those of regular tires, but the weight of the structure increases due to the weight of the large rim. This problem can be solved by installing an alloy rim.
- When choosing discs for Kalina, you need to remember that the diameter of the central hole must match the standard diameter.
- The material from which alloy wheels are made is selected taking into account their size. For R13 they can be steel. If size R 15 and above, you can only take products made of light alloys.
