VAZ-2107 cars are equipped with stamping, which has certain advantages and disadvantages. However, the relatively large weight increases fuel consumption, makes acceleration and braking difficult, and creates inconvenience during installation and dismantling.

Innovative light alloy models are divided into 3 categories based on their manufacturing method:

Cast ones are made from alloys based on aluminum or magnesium, which allows them to reduce their weight by a third compared to standard versions. The fragility and inelasticity of the material upon impact leads to chips or even bursting of the wheel.

Forged products are distinguished by increased strength and lower density due to hot stamping technology. Deformation requires a lot of force, but the inflexibility of the material forces the suspension to take on the full force of impacts when driving on a bad road.

Prefabricated ones consist of 2-3 segments fastened with bolts. You need to pay special attention to the fastening material. Steel bolts rust quickly, titanium bolts do not corrode. Components can be manufactured using different methods and from different materials. This technological solution makes it possible to reduce weight, increase the interchangeability of parts and the maintainability of products.

VAZ 2114

Tires of two sizes are relevant for the hatchback: R13, R14. Full details can be found in the technical manual. The optimal size is considered to be R13. In summer, such models are completely safe.

R14 tires are considered more suitable for winter. Tires with dimensions 175/65 can be considered an ideal option for driving on snowy roads, as well as icy tracks.

When choosing, be sure to take into account the width of the tire. It will not allow the car to “drown” in the snow; it will only be pushed to a certain depth.

Factory wheel parameters depend on the vehicle configuration. They can be standard or slightly enlarged:

  • 175/65R14,
  • 175/70R13,
  • 185/60R14.

For such tires, wheels on the VAZ 2114 are suitable 14.4x98. Moreover, their width is selected according to the size of the tire. Usually it is in the range of 5-6.

If R15 are installed, the wheels must be 6.0/6.5x15 4x98. For R16 tires – 6.5x16 4x98.

Basic drive functions

Wheel rims on a passenger car perform a number of important tasks:

  • rubber seal around the perimeter;
  • ensuring a rigid structure under the total weight of the vehicle;
  • transmission of torque to the wheel.

Based on these functions, the car enthusiast can formulate requirements for the disks, as well as their technical characteristics. Any wheeled product must be balanced in size, durable and safe. Only after this can you proceed to drilling wheels on VAZ cars.

VAZ 2115

The factory is equipped with two standard sizes: R13, R14. Dealership centers that sell tires for imported cars offer tires that fit the VAZ 2115:

  • 175/70 R13 82T.H,
  • 175/65 R14 82T.H,
  • 185/60 R14 82T.H.

Accordingly, it requires installation of disks:

  • 0JR13 H2, PCD: 498, ET35,
  • 5JR13 H2, PCD:498, ET35-40,

The diameter of the mounting hole must be at least 58.6 mm.

Parameters of standard bolts

The disks are fastened with a 19 mm wrench using steel bolts M12x1.25x27, where 12 indicates the diameter, 1.25 is the thread pitch, 27 is the length of the threaded part. The seat has a cone shape for reliable fixation and centering.

The use of bolts that do not meet the technical requirements leads to vibration of the wheel and contributes to its separation.

VAZ 2106

The most favorite car in Russia. It was produced with standard parameters - 155R13. It is allowed to install R15, but no more.

I must say that riding on large wheels will not be very comfortable. The enlarged rims will begin to touch the wheel arch, the car will bounce on potholes, and its handling will deteriorate significantly. Therefore, professionals advise against conducting such experiments. The “Six” should only wear tires recommended by the manufacturer. It is advisable to install light alloy wheels, they are much lighter than standard “stamping”.

2101

Unlike many other parts, FIAT-124 wheels “took root” on the VAZ-2101 practically unchanged.
The disk, 4.5 inches wide and with an offset of 37 mm, had eight ventilation holes of a characteristic oval shape. Since in the first months the plant experienced difficulties with components, on the “kopecks” of the period 1970-1974. one could also find other disks - with sixteen round holes, around which peculiar stampings were made. To protect the mounting bolts and wheel bearing, the central part of the rim was covered with a beautiful chrome cap - exactly the same as on a Fiat, only without the inscription with the name of the car in the center. In order for it to stay on the disk, special “ears” were provided, and such a cap could be removed thanks to its spring properties.

In the early years, the wheels were painted silver, but later on all cars of the 2101 family only wheels with oval holes, painted in a gray-white shade, were installed.

Already in 1991, wheels of type 2101 became half an inch wider and received humps - special protrusions on the shelves for a tight fit of tubeless tires. At the same time, the “penny” wheels got rid of the “lugs” for the hubcaps.

Those who are currently engaged in restoration should take into account that, according to the offset parameters, it is permissible to mount only 2101 or 2108 wheels.

2103/2106

“Treshka” received new wheels. In appearance, they were very similar to the “Fiat” ones already found on the early VAZ-2101: the same sixteen round holes, but the rim width increased to five inches, and the offset, on the contrary, decreased to 29 mm. Such a disc was installed on “three-ruble” and “six” cars, and on cars of the third model a cap of type 2101 was used, and on the “six” there was an original one. You can distinguish it by the black round overlay in the center.

True, other wheels were planned for the “six,” the angular design of which echoed the appearance of the then newfangled light-alloy (aluminum, as they were called) wheels. However, for technological reasons, such a disc did not go into production.

Since 1991, “penny” caps were also found on the new “sixes,” and since 1995, type 2103 wheels lost the protrusions for fastening the caps and became the only conveyor disks for all Zhigulis. So that such a disc could be installed on the “five” and “seven” with a chrome-plated hub cap, the diameter of the central hole of the disc was increased to 60.5 mm. It was on such “three-wheel drives” without ears that the classic Zhiguli became part of history.

The 16-inch Niva wheel, 5 inches wide, is similar in mounting parameters to GAZ and UAZ wheels (five bolts). The characteristic disc design with twelve round holes and a large offset (58 mm) appeared already on early prototypes, and it “accompanies” the old Niva throughout its production line life! Over time, the disc received bumps so that the wheels could be used in a tubeless version.

Often, Soviet Niva owners tried to make them more suitable for driving on asphalt by installing “Volgov” wheels and discs. But at the same time, due to the unacceptably small offset, the wheels stuck out, which led to a violation of the suspension kinematics.

2105/2107

Even at the prototype stage, the “five” had original wheels, the design of which was reminiscent of the “six” prototypes: angular lines, rectangular ventilation holes, the absence of a central cap. Similar solutions were used at that time on many European-made cars - for example, VW and Audi.

On the way to the conveyor, the shape of the hub became somewhat simpler to please the technologists, but still such wheels were noticeably different from the previous “Zhiguli” ones, although in terms of parameters the “five-wheel” disk with five oval holes completely duplicated the 2103 wheel.

The "seven" had its own wheels - similar in design to the VAZ-2105 wheel, but with four ventilation holes instead of five. However, only a small batch of wheels with catalog number 2107-3101015 was produced, and all cars of this family (2105/2104/2107) until 1995 rolled off the assembly line on “five” wheels. By the way, wheels from 2105 were also installed on some modifications of the “six” - for example, on the VAZ-21065.

The first front-wheel drive VAZ received original wheels of its own design with an offset of 40 mm, uncharacteristic for a Lada. The so-called early wheels were distinguished by a narrower rim (4.5J) and ventilation holes - they were slightly larger and “sharper” than on cars since 1989. Today, “early” wheels are a kind of artifact, which are hunted by connoisseurs of “correct” » Samara of the Soviet period. Later wheels also featured a rim width that was increased to five inches, and the holes themselves became slightly smaller. Like the latest Zhiguli models, the G8 disc had no protrusions for the caps, and its mounting bolts remained open.

The plant allowed the replacement of a disk with catalog number 2108-3101015 only with a “penny” one, since when using disks from other “classic” models with a shorter offset, the load on the wheel bearings sharply increased and the kinematics of the suspension were disrupted due to a decrease in the running-in arm.

The transition to a 12-inch tire also required an original wheel. Part number 1111-3101015 was only 4 inches wide and had a 40mm offset. Another uncharacteristic solution is a three-bolt mount instead of the classic 4x98. It is interesting that early prototypes had six oval holes in the discs, but a “simpler” version went into production - with 12 round holes, which in design resembled a scale copy of the Niva wheel.

One size, but not one design

So, practically the only standard size of Soviet-made VAZ passenger cars was thirteen inches. Interesting fact: stamped wheels with the 2108 wheel design are still “in service”: modern Lada models are equipped with them as standard. Decoding sizes

To understand the parameters provided by the plant, you need to know the decoding of each indicator:

  • LZ – number of holes for wheel bolts. In all models of the first and second Samara families, this indicator is 4;
  • PCD – hole center diameter;

A car with 15 rims looks beautiful, but requires the use of low-profile tires, otherwise the tires will rub against the wheel arch protection. Operation in off-road conditions, maximum loading of the trunk with this option is fraught with negative consequences.

Wide wheels with a long offset increase stability, but tend to heavily pollute the car in bad weather conditions. The large curb weight of the car leads to friction between the tires and the fender liners.

The selection of accessories is carried out taking into account the correspondence of the parameters of the tires used to the standard sizes of the wheels. Dimensions of 13 inches exclude the use of wide-profile tires due to the small volume of the wheel arch.

Choosing non-standard wheels means replacing car tires. It is necessary to take into account the acceptable tire sizes for the VAZ-2107 recommended by experts:

  • diameter 13-15 inches;
  • width 165-185 mm;
  • tire profile – 55-80%.

How the rim models of cars produced in Tolyatti during the Soviet period changed over time

The Volzhsky Automobile Plant, which is the largest domestic automaker, has produced a sufficient number of passenger vehicle models over the years. And until now, the manufacturer has not given up its position, offering consumers new types of products that constantly occupy leading positions in sales rankings. Since the moment when the first car (VAZ-2101) rolled off the assembly line in 1970, dozens of brands and modifications of budget cars have seen the light of day.

To equip vehicles, wheels with different characteristics were used (the table clearly demonstrates the differences in the wheels of VAZ cars of different models).

Subsequently, the width of the disc was increased to 5″, and the ventilation holes were reduced in size.

Almost all passenger cars produced in Tolyatti during Soviet times were equipped with 13″ wheels. Many modern cars coming off the AvtoVAZ assembly line are equipped with such stamped wheels.

Tire pressure

Car enthusiasts often ask the question: how long to pump tires and is it worth doing it for winter tires? Minimum and maximum possible parameters of non-standard disks

Selecting non-standard disks is associated with certain difficulties. This applies to the boundaries of the wheel arch, hub parameters, overhang and permissible rim width.

Despite the fact that at the factory only 13-inch wheels were installed on the VAZ-2106, and only 14-inch wheels were considered as replacement options, 15 and even 16-inch wheels are also applicable for installation in this car model.

  • The R 15-inch version is more suitable for driving in urban environments. Bad roads can cause them to wear out quickly.

  • R To a large extent, this size is set only to improve the appearance of the car. Use on bad roads can lead to damage to the rims and wheel arch.

In the latest VAZ models, manufacturers abandoned their usual 4x98 mm bolt pattern in favor of the more universal 4x100 mm. With the use of eccentrics, a difference of 2 mm can be solved. Other bolt patterns require the installation of additional adapter spacers.

The maximum rim width provided by the manufacturer is 6 inches with an offset of 29 mm. When installing a wider version, you will have to adjust the offset using spacers. But you need to understand that wide rims can worsen the car’s handling. In addition, they are more susceptible to drifts in bad weather or during the winter season.

To increase the level of driving comfort, using new alloy wheels is not only possible, but also necessary. But, based on safety and common sense considerations, it is worth sticking to the standard factory parameters.

RULES FOR SELECTION OF LIGHT ALLOY WHEELS

The VAZ 2107 car has very specific technical parameters. The manufacturer recommends using certain types of components and consumables during operation. Stamped steel or cast alloy wheels must have the following technical characteristics:

  1. number of bolts – 4 units;
  2. distance between attachment points - 98.0 mm;
  3. disc mounting diameter - 13 inches;
  4. wheel width in the area where the tire is installed is 5.5 inches;
  5. Disc offset – distance from the central plane to the mounting pad – 29 mm;
  6. The minimum diameter of the hub assembly is 60.1 mm.

The manufacturer of the VAZ 2107 recommends adhering to exactly these characteristics when choosing and installing wheel rims. In some cases, sellers urge you not to pay too much attention to the machine’s operating manual and to purchase castings with other parameters. They are driven mainly by the desire to sell a set of components and make a profit from this process.
