Kalina 8 Valve High Fuel Consumption Reasons • First cars

Real fuel consumption Kalina 2 (hatchback and station wagon)

If we look at the technical characteristics of the new Kalina, we will see that “ Fuel consumption by driving cycle, l/100 km ” is indicated as follows:

  1. Kalina 2 manual transmission hatchback spends 10.5/6.1/7.8 liters in the urban/suburban/combined cycle in the “standard” and “norm” configurations.
  2. Kalina 2 station wagon manual transmission requires 10.4/5.9/7.6 liters in the urban/suburban/mixed cycle in the “standard” and “norm” configurations.

We decided to analyze the reviews of the owners, as a result of which a table of gasoline consumption was compiled, according to which we can say that the real gasoline consumption of the Lada Kalina 2 (1.6 liters, 87 hp manual transmission) is as follows:

  • Consumption in the city ranges from 8l/100km to 10l/100km. The average is 8.6l/100km.
  • Consumption on the highway ranges from 5.8 l/100 km to 8 l/100 km. The average is 6.5 l/100 km.
  • The combined cycle ranges from 7l/100km to 8.5l/100km. The average is 7.5 l/100 km.

The fuel consumption of Kalina 2 with automatic transmission (luxury) is significantly higher, the declared gasoline consumption is 12.2/6.3/8.5 in the urban/suburban/combined cycle, in practice we received the following figures:

  • Highway 6.5 - 7.5l/100km. The average is 7l/100km.
  • City 10.3 - 13.2l/100km. The average is 12l/100km.

Why do different owners have such a wide range in numbers? Fuel consumption may vary due to a number of reasons:

  • Seasonality . Everyone has noticed that in winter, gasoline consumption is much higher than in summer. This is due to slippery roads, tires, warm-up, etc. From observations, it was noted that warming up the new Kalina in winter increases fuel consumption by 2 liters.
  • Gasoline quality . Gasoline consumption is affected not only by the octane number (by the way, AvtoVAZ recommends refueling Kalina 2 only with 95AI), but also by the quality of gasoline. From the calculations of the owners, it was concluded that the average consumption on 95 gasoline is less than on 92, and upon calculation it turned out that it is cheaper to drive 95AI.
  • Traffic jams. If one lives in a small city and does not know what traffic jams are, and the other in a metropolis stands idle in them for hours, then the consumption of a Lada Kalina in city mode for these two car owners will be completely different. For reference: even a small traffic jam can increase gasoline consumption by 2 liters.
  • Driving style. If the calm nature of driving keeps gasoline consumption figures within normal limits, then active driving with sharp braking and acceleration can increase consumption significantly!
  • Air conditioner. When the air conditioner is turned on, Granta consumption increases by 1 liter.
  • Malfunctions of Kalina 2 . And of course, the reason for high gas consumption may be problems in the car itself. In this case, you should make a diagnosis and fix the problem.

By the way, read about the consumption of the 1st generation Kalina. In the comments you can leave your data on gasoline consumption on the new Kalina (City/Highway/Mixed/Gasoline/Season/Driving Style):

DMVR sensor malfunction

This problem was on my previous VAZ 2112 car, where this mass air flow sensor constantly sent an error to the on-board computer and the instantaneous flow increased immediately from 0.6 to 1.3 liters per hour when the engine was idling. I had to constantly reset the error. So keep an eye on and replace the air filter more often than written in the operating instructions, thereby you will extend the life of the mass air flow sensor for many years.

So I got my hands on the diagnostic equipment. These are the errors generated by the controller:

P0117-Low signal level of the coolant temperature sensor circuit P0102-Low signal level of the mass air flow sensor circuit P0171-Fuel supply system is too lean at its maximum enrichment P0171-Fuel supply system is too lean at its maximum enrichmentThe first error, as far as I remember, popped up during the service before last. along with an error in turning on the cooling fan. The servicemen changed the fan relay (although I knew about the problem and had changed the relay myself shortly before). They told me about the last error at the last maintenance, suggesting an air leak.

Attached is a log of the trip made by the kwp program, if it can provide additional information. I can make another log tomorrow.

DMRV died? Or are errors 102 and 171 related?

PS. By the way, with the suction, how do you find the place of the suction?

I'm posting the second log. Today, by the way, the dzhekichen has not been burning since the morning, although I did not throw it off yesterday. I also reset the tripcomp and at the end of the trip it showed an average consumption of 7.7 liters, which is already normal. And the dzhekichen caught fire again, the moment of switching on is visible on the log. Post edited by Dove: 07/28/2010 - 09:23

this is due to neglect and “old age” - for example, the air flow sensor was killed by oil, dust and high mileage, the injectors were filled with low-quality fuel (with water or something else), the filter was defective - it was torn. I doubt that a relatively “fresh” viburnum will suffer from the same bunch of malfunctions, it has its own problems , for example with a catenary collector (see above)

Features of fuel consumption on Kalina © Engine condition

Tips and ways to reduce fuel consumption on Lada Kalina Of course, you can listen to the opinions of various craftsmen who will advise you to install various gaskets and use all kinds of modifiers. There was no money to repair and the amount was very large, so I managed to exchange my Japanese car for the domestic auto industry in the form of a 2002 Lada Kalina with an eight-valve engine 1.

conclusions

If the on-board computer shows significantly more than 8.5 liters (and this is the average consumption in mixed mode), then this is a reason to think about the proper operation of the engine and its systems

If an increase in fuel consumption is detected on the Lada Kalina, the malfunction should be immediately diagnosed and repaired. There were cases when consumption reached 20 liters and only after that did motorists begin to do something. If the owner of a Lada Kalina cannot detect the fault himself, then it is worth contacting a car service center. The consequence of increased consumption may be increased wear of the elements of the power unit, which can lead to unplanned overhauls.

Modifications and consumption rates

As a rule, it is in cars with carburetor engines that the problem of increased “appetite” is more acute than ever. Let's look at what can cause high gasoline consumption:

Gasoline quality

This is probably the first point that you can think about in case of increased fuel consumption, because sometimes when refueling at different gas stations, the numbers on the on-board computer can differ significantly, even up to 2 liters per 100 km. This happened to me often, especially when I had to fill up with gasoline from unknown pumps.

I would give advice, if possible, fill up with fuel at trusted gas stations where you are satisfied with the quality. As for the octane number, I almost never notice the difference, especially at local filling stations and even Rosneft, but at Lukoil the 95 differs from the 92 for the better, I have been convinced of this more than once.

Real fuel consumption Kalina 2 (hatchback and station wagon); “” According to the requests of the factory developers, which corresponded to the reviews of the owners, the car with an 81-horsepower engine had the same fuel consumption per hundred kilometers. As a result, after running-in, the results are a distance of 890 km at an average speed of 100 km/h, driver and passenger luggage 70 kg, all kinds of roads - rain and sun, tire pressure - 2.
  • City - 10.2 l.

Increased fuel consumption Kalina 1 1.6 8-valve

Hello! The consumption for Kalina 1 has increased from 7.2 to 10.9 Sometimes it can be more than 10.9, up to 12 in the city. Replaced: MAF, MAF, DPZ, phase sensor, all filters, spark plugs, fuel pump module, adjusted valves, clutch. Consumption increased instantly in one day. It was always 7.2 -7.5 city, highway from 5.8 to 6.5. I visited many diagnosticians, according to diagnostics everything is fine. Compression is normal, the ramp is also normal. I also checked with a smoke generator, there are no leaks. I didn’t replace only the lambda probe, they were the only ones left. We brainstormed and selected different firmware, to no avail. The only thing is that after resetting the zeroing terminal, the consumption remains normal for 2 days, then it increases again. I filled the tank full, drained it to zero, and so on 3 times. The consumption corresponds to the 10-11 on-board vehicle. I don’t know what to do anymore, where to go

We need a diagnostic log if possible, perhaps this way we can understand what the problem is. We need logs when the ignition is simply turned on, then at XX and at 3000..

There are 2 types of regulator malfunctions, characterized by a decrease in fuel pressure or, conversely, its excessive increase. The element cannot be repaired and must be replaced if broken.

Fuel consumption of Lada Kalina 8 and 16 valves per 100 km: real indicators - Website about the famous domestic car Grant As a result, after running in, the results are a distance of 890 km at an average speed of 100 km h driver and passenger luggage 70 kg, all kinds of roads - rain, sun, tire pressure — 2. Economical 10 liters in the city with a 106 horsepower engine, comfortable and there are a bunch of all sorts of fake whistles, from ABS and power windows to climate control.
Lada Kalina: fuel consumption, characteristics Measurements of fuel consumption in suburban mode occur at a speed of 90 km h, while most drivers keep a speed of 110-120 km h outside the city. The workshop said that I often filled in low-quality fuel, this It seems to be true, the gas station near my house does not belong to any of the well-known chains.

Setting up injectors on professional equipment

Everything depends on the serviceability of the fuel injector in injection systems. The engine will operate properly and without problems only if the injectors are in good working order and accurately adjusted. Even a minimal inversion of the performance of one of the injectors will affect the capabilities of the engine and its dynamics. And periodic operation of a machine with such nozzles will ultimately lead to expensive repairs of the internal combustion engine.

To adjust the injectors you will need bench equipment. Special tools are also needed. Due to the lack of such equipment in the garage, it is customary to entrust the work of setting up injectors to specialists in a car service center.

Here's how the adjustment is made.

  1. The technician at the stand checks the nozzles, determines the tightness, and the degree of pressure at the moment the nozzle needle moves. If it notices discrepancies with standard parameters, it begins the adjustment process.
  2. The required pressure is set by rotating the screw with a lock nut, which is responsible for raising the locking needle. This type of adjustment is called smooth adjustment. But stepwise pressure adjustment involves the use of washers with different thicknesses.
  3. The degree and angle of fuel spray is adjustable. If the quality of the atomized fuel cannot be normalized, the atomizer is replaced.
