The VAZ 2115 stove does not work - reasons and solutions

Why doesn't the stove work on the VAZ 2114? This is a question many car owners ask themselves. And how to make the VAZ 2114 warm?

Unfortunately, the heating system of the domestic automobile industry still leaves much to be desired. This issue is especially relevant in winter. After all, being cold is not only unpleasant, but harmful, even dangerous to health. And here we are not only talking about the driver’s hypothermia, everything is clear about this. Glasses with a faulty heating system quickly freeze and become covered with frost and ice. Visibility on the road for the driver in such conditions is negligible.

To find out why the stove on a VAZ 2114 does not work, you first need to understand how the stove on a VAZ 2114 works.

Heating in the interior of the VAZ 2114 is arranged according to the classic principle of the line of Samara cars.

Introduction

Despite the fact that domestically produced cars are relatively durable, their heating system can fail much earlier. Having wished the “best” to the manufacturer, motorists whose VAZ-2115 heater fan does not work most often discover a problem in the cold season. Driving in a cold, unheated vehicle cannot be pleasant or comfortable; in addition, it is dangerous to health. It is worth noting that we are talking not so much about hypothermia, but about the danger of collision with other road users and structures. Due to the fact that the interior is not heated, the windows freeze very quickly, and a layer of frost and ice appears on them, preventing normal visibility.

Minor troubles

And the last trouble that a car owner may encounter is the incorrect supply of air masses to the cabin. Fortunately, adjusting and repairing dampers is a simple procedure! You need to take pliers and bend the cable at the flap under the driver's steering wheel. Then the damper will tightly close the air duct again and the problem is solved.

One of the main advantages of being a car owner is comfort and convenience. This is especially true during cold periods of the year. When there is snow and frost outside, it is much more pleasant to move around the streets in the warmth of your own car. But, unfortunately, equipment tends to fail, and in today’s article we will look at one of such cases so that you are prepared for any surprises.

Causes of heater fan malfunction

Replacing the stove motor may be necessary due to several problems, therefore, before taking active steps to repair the heating device, it is necessary to find out the reliable cause of the malfunction.

First of all, as practice shows, problems can begin with a failed fuse. Such a malfunction results in damage to the cigarette lighter, the illumination of the glove compartment, the electric pump (through which water cleans the headlights), and the heated rear window.

The second most common problem is the lack of contact, which should be inside the mounting block. In this case, the motorist needs to check the wiring in the block. If you have questions with the ignition relay, then most likely you will have to change this device. If the heater is not working in the first and second speed modes, the resistor will need to be replaced.

As practice shows, the heater fan on a VAZ-2115 can be replaced only after all of the above problems have been eliminated, and the faulty heater cannot operate normally. A problem with the fan motor can occur due to its failure. A small device may burn out, have poor contact with the power supply, or be the result of stuck fan brushes.

Checking the switch (faucet)

If the stove switch does not respond during the work carried out, then the problem is in the faucet. Replacement is not always necessary. Before changing the device, you should check its functionality:

  • remove the center console;
  • prepare a lamp and a couple of wires;
  • turn on the car engine;
  • short the minus to ground;
  • plus is closed to a three-phase resistor;
  • if the lamp lights up with such contact, then everything is fine with the switch;
  • if the lamp does not light, then the reason is an open circuit or a blown fuse.

Important! Another possible cause of a switch malfunction is a broken motor. Check its condition and replace if necessary.

The principle of replacing the valve of the VAZ-2115 stove

If the fan of the VAZ-2115 stove does not work, then you should immediately replace it completely. In almost any modern auto store you can find a decent fan option. As a rule, models from completely different price categories are suitable for a domestic VAZ-2115 car; naturally, you can install either a more budget-friendly Chinese version or a more reliable, durable unit. No one will be held responsible for the quality and service life of cheap fans, so it makes more sense to spend a little more money and buy a stronger device.

Changing a standard unit is easy, it is important to buy a worthy replacement. Some qualified experts recommend purchasing Luzar products, noting their fans as high-quality devices. The approximate cost of such a unit is within 1.2 thousand rubles.

If a motorist does not know how to remove the VAZ-2115 heater fan, he must first inspect its location. The VAZ heater motor is located in a special container (container), which is located in the windshield area in the hood compartment. You will need few tools; you should only stock up on a screwdriver and a set of keys.

To change the heater fan on a VAZ-2115, you should disconnect the negative terminal from the car’s battery, then from the passenger compartment under the instrument panel find the power wire (“plus”) of the heater motor and disconnect it.

To carry out the next step, you will have to sit under the hood of your car and get rid of the fan casing cover, which is held on by only 2 screws (they will need to be unscrewed).

To make the heater function perfectly, you will have to remove the entire “mass” of the heater motor; to facilitate the process, first of all, you will need to unscrew the nut securing the casing body at the bottom. Then you should open the casing itself and unscrew the 2 screws that hold the fan. Once these screws are removed, you will have to spend time removing the fasteners located in front of the windshield. Thanks to this procedure, the motorist will free the air intake grilles, which will subsequently need to be removed.

Replacing the stove fan on a VAZ-2115 will only be done after the old motor has been removed. You can remove the old device by unscrewing absolutely all the fasteners. It is worth noting that the unit being replaced is placed on a small hook located on the body. To do everything correctly, you need to move the hook forward a little and then lift it.

Heating system design

Such a system in these cars consists of several components. This is a fan that blows air over the heater radiator. The device also has air ducts and dampers. This is a separate damper for blowing the windshield, as well as a distribution one - it directs the air flow to the central and side deflectors, as well as to the floor. That's not all. There is also a control valve.

You can also highlight the stove faucet and the resistor that controls the power of the motor. There is also a switch that allows you to change the fan power.

If the heating system is working properly, then the coolant heated from the engine is supplied to the heater radiator through the tap. The temperature of the air, which is pumped into the cabin by a fan, can be controlled - this is what the faucet is designed for. Heat is generated when a fan blows on the heater radiator, which is heated by coolant. When the car engine is heated to operating temperature, the temperature of the antifreeze or antifreeze can reach 95 degrees or more.

The stove on this car can operate in one of three modes. Modes allow you to change the fan speed. Depending on the position of the tap, you can supply both warm and cold air into the cabin.

Malfunctions and diagnostics

As you can see, the heater is designed primitively. The operating principle is also very simple. But even so, the stove does not work on most VAZ cars (2115 VAZ is no exception). Let's look at typical faults.

Determining whether the heater has started working or not is very simple. If you turn on the heater in the cabin while the engine is running, the fan should start. If this does not happen, then something has happened and there will be no heat because the stove is not functioning.

In addition, the fan in the stove may not work, cold air enters the cabin, the damper does not work, there are antifreeze leaks, the stove makes various extraneous sounds, and smoke or steam comes out of the air ducts. Sometimes the stove in the VAZ 2115 does not work, it does not blow for no reason.

Fuse

It’s worth starting to look for the reason from the very beginning. Fuses usually blow. The malfunction is primitive, and you just need to replace the burnt one with a new one. But the fuse failed as a result of a short circuit, and the cause of the short circuit must be found.

This model has two safety blocks. The first can be found under the hood near the left glass, while the second is located in the cabin, under the panel. Two fuse blocks protect the circuits of certain devices.

You can find out which fuse is not working by looking at what is not working yet. For example, if the heater and washer of a VAZ 2115 do not work, then you need to find the fuse that is responsible for the operation of the washers. It is easy to find a burnt element - even an inexperienced driver can easily distinguish a burnt part from a whole one.

Although, due to a non-working heater in these models, there can only be one problem - fuse F7. It is located behind the heater, and the fuse itself is 40 A. It is responsible not only for the operation of the fan, but also for the washer, glove compartment lighting, heated rear window and cigarette lighter.

First and second position

If the heater only wants to work in the first and second positions, then you will have to be in the car for a long time without heating before it becomes warm. The heater is designed so that in the first and second positions the impulse to the fan comes from the resistor, and in the third position directly.

An additional resistor is needed in the system to ensure the best speed. The resistor has two spirals for two operating modes. When the first stove mode is turned on, the pulse passes through two spirals. If the second mode is turned on, the pulse will follow the second spiral. You can find the resistor near the accelerator pedal. Repairing it is unprofitable. Repairs can only be made if the contacts are burnt. It also makes sense to repair, if the wiring is burnt, it is replaced with a new one.

Remove the contacts from the resistor. Disconnect the fasteners and remove the element. Next, you need to make sure whether the part can be repaired. It is repaired or replaced with a new one.

Heater radiator repair

Usually, if mechanical damage is detected, the stove radiator is replaced with a new one. However, some car owners try to repair cracks and holes using soldering. A copper radiator is quite easy to solder, and it is much easier to restore than an aluminum one. To repair an aluminum heat exchanger, you will need special flux and tinning solder, as well as a powerful soldering iron. The damaged area is first cleaned of dirt and degreased. Then flux and solder are applied to it with a soldering iron. After soldering, it is recommended to check the radiator under pressure to make sure there are no leaks.

Cold air into the cabin

This may be due to various malfunctions. What could happen if the VAZ 2115 stove does not work? The reasons are improper replacement of the coolant, depressurization of the cooling system, and a small amount of antifreeze. To remove the plug from the system, you need to remove the heater radiator pipe and add coolant to the maximum. Then start and warm up the engine. The plug will come out on its own under fluid pressure.

Another nuisance is a jammed faucet. This may happen if the valve was not fully opened before, and during operation, scale appeared at its end, interfering with the normal circulation of the coolant. You can unscrew the tap with pliers or replace it.

The fan impeller may be damaged. It should be inspected and, if there is mechanical damage, replaced. If the cabin filter is dirty, then warm air will also not flow into the cabin. The filter needs to be changed.

Fan motor repair

If the electric motor malfunctions, it should first be removed and then the feasibility of repair should be determined. It is necessary to evaluate the condition of the brushes, armatures, windings, and check the integrity of the wire insulation. The contact area of the brushes on the armature can be cleaned with zero grade sandpaper. You should also pay attention to the bushings and bearings - clean the rubbing parts from dirt and apply lubricant (for example, Litol). All elements with signs of wear must be replaced.

When installing a new heater radiator, it is recommended to pre-treat the pipes with sealant

And so, here is a list of all components of the scheme:

  1. Mounting block (aka fuse block).
  2. Egnition lock.
  3. Ignition switch relief relay.
  4. Heater fan speed switch.
  5. Additional resistors.
  6. Stove motor.
  7. Rear window heating switch with warning lamp.
  8. Rear window heating element.

The scheme works as follows. When you turn the key in the ignition switch (2), its unloading relay (3) is turned on. The unloading relay supplies power to fuse f7 in the mounting block (1). After the fuse, power goes to the rear window heating switch (7) and the fan speed switch (4), which distributes which of the resistors (5) the power will go to next. Output 1 from the switch (4) corresponds to the slowest blowing speed, and output 3 goes directly to the heater motor (6), i.e. highest blowing speed.

Manufacturing of LED backlight

Sometimes simply replacing the VAZ 2114 stove light bulb seems like an insufficient measure to motorists, and they resort to completely redoing the lighting using an LED strip. For such tuning, you will need to purchase a 10-centimeter piece of white LED strip and 2 pieces of blue and red tape, 5 cm each (many electrical stores agree to sell even this length. Otherwise, you will have to buy a longer piece and cut a piece from it).

The tools for installing the LED strip will be the same as in the previous case. You will also need a soldering iron, electrical tape (or heat-shrink tubing) and a PCB plate.

The lighting of the VAZ 2114 stove with an LED strip is mounted in the following order:

  • disconnect the on-board network from the battery;
  • remove the stove scale compartment cover;
  • take ready-made pieces of LED strip or cut existing ones to length;
  • take a textolite plate and cut it to the size of the internal cavity of the stove scale;
  • Paste pieces of tape onto the plate in the following order: white on top, blue on bottom and red next to it. It should be glued so that the tapes are placed almost right next to each other;
  • attach the plate with the tapes located on it to the inside of the torpedo using self-tapping screws;
  • solder the wires of the “native” backlight to the contacts on the tapes. When doing this, be sure to observe polarity (how to check it was discussed above);
  • insulate solder joints using heat shrink or electrical tape;
  • apply a filter film to the back of the scale (many car enthusiasts recommend using Oracal8300-073). It will help make the light softer and less blinding to the eyes. If one layer does not seem enough after a trial run, you can stick a second layer;
  • put the cover back in place;
  • connect the battery.

If, after turning it on, it seems to you that the light is pleasant to the eye, but you want a little more contrast, you can unscrew the plate with ribbons and mount it again, but not directly to the body, but through small bushings that will help bring the LEDs closer to the scale.

Lighting made in this way will not only make the VAZ 2114 stove regulator more visible, but will also noticeably transform the interior appearance of the cabin.

Reasons why the VAZ 2114, 2115, 2113 heater motor does not work.

The reasons why a fresh flow of cold air in summer or a hot stream in winter does not come from the air ducts of your VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 can be of two types:

Let's look at them in more detail.

Mechanical reasons why the VAZ 2114, 2115, 2113 heater fan does not work.

First of all, mechanical reasons include clogging of the air duct.

As you can see in the photo, leaves, branches and other debris get under the casing and clog the air duct of the heater motor. Debris can get into the section with the blades itself and jam the stove fan. Usually before this, a whistle or grinding noise is heard from under the soot space.

Mechanical reasons for the inoperability of the stove motor include jamming of the blades due to improper installation of the stove fan housing. When removing the stove motor, the latches securing the two parts of the housing are often damaged. And if these parts are not firmly fixed to each other, then there will be a gap between them and the air flow that should go into the cabin will fall into this gap. Also, parts of the housing may generally jam the motor blades, then it will not spin at all.

Problems with the heater fan from the electrical part.

In this section, we will consider the circuit to the VAZ heater fan by components.

Fuse.

Let's follow the scheme given at the beginning of the post. If your heater fan does not work together with the heated rear window, then the problem is 100% in the fuse. Check fuse f7 in the mounting block , if it is ok, then use a multimeter to see if the plus is coming to it from the ignition switch unloading relay. To do this, with the ignition on, place one multimeter probe on the fuse and the other on the car body. If everything is in order, look at the circuit from the fuse to the speed switch and the heating switch.

Heater fan speed switch.

We figured out the fuse - let's move on. And then we have the stove motor speed switch . To check it, remove the connector from it. The connector has three inputs nearby and one is located, as if separately from them. We connect any of these three inputs with a wire to the one that stands separately. If the motor starts working, then the speed switch is to blame; if not, we move on.

Additional resistors.

If the fan works, but only at the third (fastest) speed, then additional resistors . In the third mode, power is supplied directly to the fan, bypassing additional resistors, so it does not work in other modes.

Instructions for replacing the switch

It cannot be said that replacing switches installed on VAZ-2114 stoves is a difficult task. The procedure is painstaking and in many ways inconvenient.

Important! Experienced craftsmen advise making the repair a little more complicated, but making the work comfortable and convenient. To do this, you need to remove the dashboard and completely drain the coolant. This will allow you to change the faucet and old coolant in one go.

But it is not necessary to remove and drain. Use your own discretion.

To work you will need:

  • wrench 10;
  • rags or old rags;
  • cooling liquid;
  • worm clamp (its diameter will be 15–23 mm);
  • screwdriver (phillips);
  • capacity of at least 5 liters;
  • new switch (faucet).

When everything is prepared, you can begin work. The replacement will take you several hours, but will save a decent amount on the services of specialists from a service station.

  1. Replacement begins with removing the entire center panel or just the side wall. It is located on the front passenger side. Shoot what is most convenient for you.
  2. Throw rags and rags at the feet of the passenger seat that absorb moisture well. Place rags under the faucet to prevent spilled coolant from leaving marks on the floor. It is also better to remove the rugs immediately.
  3. Lift the hood, remove the heater hose clamps (outlet and inlet). The pipes are removed from the faucet. Drain all coolant from the system into a prepared empty container.
  4. Return to the interior of the VAZ-2114 car. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the clamps that hold the heater pipes to the faucet. Disconnect them. Place the container there, because the liquid will flow from there. Drain all coolant.
  5. Using pliers, you need to remove the bracket from the faucet lever rod. It is removed through the hole in the lever.
  6. We need to go back to the engine compartment. There, using a 10mm wrench, remove a couple of fastenings of the heater faucet to the shield.
  7. Run to the salon, where you can completely remove the switch (faucet).

Reassembly

Once the old switch is removed, you need to begin reassembling the entire assembly. This stage is no less important.

  1. Make sure that the new faucet (switch) is in good condition and has no defects or damage. Buy a quality item right away so you don’t have to do the same work again later.
  2. Replace the switch. From the engine compartment side, the faucet is fixed with a pair of nuts. It will be better if you lubricate them with anti-corrosion lubricant before installing the nuts. They will last longer.
  3. Open the tap completely, coming from the interior side, and then tighten the bracket.
  4. Already from the engine side, and then from the passenger compartment, put on the pipes and secure them properly. Make sure the fastening is secure.
  5. If you decided to drain the coolant during the dismantling stage, you can now refill it. Or immediately change all the antifreeze for prevention. If only part of the liquid comes out, then you need to unscrew the pipe on the throttle assembly and add the missing amount of coolant.
  6. Return the pipe to its place, start the engine and warm it up well. Tighten all clamps after heating, then turn on the stove.

Important! After replacement, air may accumulate inside the heater radiator. This is indicated by cold air coming out of the heater after replacing the switch. Remove the air and the repair is complete.

All you have to do is return the panel to its place and check the operation as you go. If everything is done correctly and other potential causes of stove failure are eliminated, then the heating equipment will begin to supply hot air as before.

Do you think the heating system of the VAZ-2114 is really that bad or does it all depend on the specific car? Share your impressions, leave comments and ask your questions. We will be happy to answer them.
