In our conditions, there is a high probability of simply throwing money away, literally down the drain, playing into the hands of numerous tuning studios that are just waiting for a lover of inexpensive plastic, although the right body kit cannot be inexpensive.

Traditionally, a number of standard technologies and materials are used for the manufacture of spoilers, fairings, wings, aerodynamic thresholds and deflectors:

  • ABS plastic;
  • carbon;
  • fiberglass;
  • various types of polyurethane.

These are the most affordable materials for making body kits, but there is still a difference between them.

Work algorithm

Before performing the work, you should take into account that the process is quite labor-intensive and takes a lot of free time and effort. In addition, creative skills are required as making an attractive design is quite difficult. The algorithm for carrying out the work is as follows:

  1. First, a sketch is drawn that will allow you to get an attractive result.

  2. After this, the bumper is dismantled, the surface is cleaned of dust and dirt. Before starting work, you need to dry the surface.

  3. All elements of the vehicle that are nearby are protected with masking tape. This is due to the fact that the foam used is aggressive and has a negative effect on the paintwork.
  4. After this, the bumper is put in its place, since during operation it will be possible to adjust the result obtained.
  5. Plywood strips define the boundaries of the future product. They can be attached in a variety of ways, but must be rigid. It is ideal if their placement exactly repeats the contours of the future product.

  6. After the working space has been formed, it is filled with polyurethane foam. At the time of completing this stage, you should be guided by the sketch. Particular attention is paid to niches for air intakes and other elements.
  7. A relatively short amount of time is allowed for the applied material to dry. After this, excess material is removed using a knife. It is important to achieve the required symmetry and correct, even shape.

  8. After obtaining the required shape, the surface is coated with a special epoxy resin, after which it is covered with fiberglass. You should be careful about this, since such materials are quite expensive, and mistakes made will lead to an irregular shape.   9. Sanding the surface is carried out after it has completely dried. All transitions must be smooth and even, since after applying the topcoat all defects will be noticeable almost immediately.

To create a “Special Edition” of any car, you need to work hard on both the appearance and the technical side. And in the case of Russian cars, you can run into very sarcastic criticism. And beautiful nameplates will not help here.

This VAZ-2114 tuning project, in our opinion, can proudly bear this title, it looks too cool and predatory compared to the stock one. All the chic of this project is aimed exclusively at the external design. The engine remains standard, but the exterior looks very JDM-like.

Body kits based on polyurethane

Elastic and durable material. Polyurethane can be either foamed or rubberized. The second type is especially good for decorative outdoor elements. It is elastic even in the cold, does not break under any conditions, and is well adjusted to the location. If high-quality raw materials were used in production and technology was followed, then the material will be homogeneous, will restore its shape after deformation, and will hold paint perfectly. But it has a huge disadvantage - the price.

VAZ-2114 “Rusty Bullet”

This project is called “Rusty Bullet” and is a deep tuning of the “14th model” into an almost rally car with wide wheel arches, a powerful “lipped” front bumper with mesh air intakes, large 225/45R18 wheels on spectacular alloy wheels and, accordingly, an enlarged clearance because of this.

But the most important thing in this project is the replacement of the standard engine with a C20SEL from an Opel Vectra with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 136 hp. Fiberglass

Let's briefly consider the features of different materials for body kits with their pros and cons. One of the oldest materials for making body kits is fiberglass. The molding technology is not too complicated, but the process is long and labor-intensive, so the price of such elements will be higher. The material is obtained by impregnating fiberglass fabric with epoxy polymer resin. To obtain the desired product, a mold is made from gypsum or other material and fiberglass and polymer resin are applied in layers. After hardening, the part is processed, sanded and painted in the desired color. This method has certain features:

  • sufficient strength;
  • maintainability;
  • light weight.
