Through the efforts of Tolyatti stylists, they managed to create a modern body that attracts the eye. Believe it or not, during the liftback test, curious people came up to me more than once, inquired about the price, asked about my impressions, and looked into the interior. Here it is - the mesmerizing power of the coupe-shaped body, with which the VAZ team has clearly hit the trend. Another feature of Granta is its solid design. All doors open to a very wide angle, and they are made of thick metal, reminding me personally of the military power of the country. Engine power is influenced by many factors, including fuel, oil viscosity, and the integrity of parts. Let's look at each factor separately.

Before you begin to improve the engine, you need to figure out whether the engine is working at full power. Trust your own feelings to understand whether the car “pulls” during acceleration or if something is missing. Of course, you can’t expect agility from an automatic transmission if only for the reason that the automatic switches gears smoothing them out. Determine if there are internal problems with the engine. To do this, just look at the smoke from the exhaust pipe. A bright blue or dark blue exhaust indicates that oil has entered the combustion chamber. Oil seeps into the chamber if the equipment is installed incorrectly (if the engine has been repaired) or if there are problems with the rings on the pistons.

If the car behaves adequately, quickly picks up speed, but you want more, then you can increase engine power in the following ways:

1. Using gasoline with a higher octane number. The higher the octane number, the greater the fuel's ability to resist self-ignition during compression. The consequence will be greater power from the gas explosion. This is due to the laws of physics: the higher the degree of gas compression, the higher the rate of its combustion. However, it is important to remember that increasing power shortens the life of the part, which is subject to more wear and tear during operation.

2. By replacing the standard air filter with a “zero” resistance filter, you will supply the engine with an oxygen-air mixture. The increased volume increases the degree of compression of the mixture in the cylinder. This increases the force of the explosion and, as a result, the engine power.

3. Installing a “forward flow” - changing the exhaust system of the car - will add a few percent to the engine power. The power lost due to exhaust emissions will remain. But installing a direct-flow muffler is not enough. Many types, low quality material, handicraft production do not always give a positive effect.

Alternator belt overtightened

One of the most common problems with the Lada Grant is an overtightened alternator belt. As a rule, it does not last long, and car owners quickly run into trouble. To avoid problems, it is recommended to slightly modify the mount. You can do this in several ways:

This is what people call engines whose valves do not collide with the pistons and do not bend when the timing belt breaks. In such engines, there are special slots on the pistons into which the valves fall when the belt breaks. So a torn timing belt will end, in fact, only with a torn timing belt, and not by repairing the “head”.

However, for Lada cars this is not exactly an absolute novelty: some VAZ engines were also not afraid of valves meeting pistons. This was, for example, motor 11183, which was once installed on the same Grant. Later, during the modernization, the Volzhsky Automobile Plant switched to other pistons, which no longer ensured the safety of the valves, and owners of Ladas with such engines often replaced the piston with an old-style analogue. Now there is no need to show garage initiative.

Thermostat temperature too low

Another problem with the Lada Grant is the thermostat. Despite the external conditions and engine temperature, the temperature of this element rises to no more than 78 degrees. Moreover, if you manage to reach this point, then fuel consumption will increase very seriously. Why pay more when you can solve this problem by simply replacing the fuser? The Grant has a native thermocouple set to 85 degrees. It needs to be changed to 92 degrees. Suitable products from the following manufacturers:

Is it noisy?

Well, so... During the update, Granta improved the sound insulation of the wheel arches - now all of them have felt fender liners.

The same cannot be said about the liftback: its pillars are powerful, the fifth door rises tightly and slowly, as if on an electric drive.

But the side surfaces of the body as a whole have not changed: complex X-shaped stampings have bypassed them. Therefore, Granta looks simpler than Vesta and Xray, clearly observing the hierarchy of the model range. And such changes would not have the best effect on the price tag, but price is still Granta’s main trump card. Which we will return to later.

Replacing the cabin filter

I’ll show you what the cabin filter looks like on a Lada Granta. I drove 4000 km in six months, winter came. It is better to change the cabin filter every 6 months, taking into account the condition of the roads, dirt, and leaves. If the filter element is clogged, then with the onset of winter the heater will blow worse and the windshield will warm up more slowly. A lot of things depend on its contamination, namely how the stove works. In winter, her work is very important, I think everyone will agree with this.

The price is only 200-250 rubles, the coal version is 400 rubles. This is pennies, if you change the filter every 6 months, the stove will work normally. The air flow will be like on a new car. In addition, clean air means health; breathing microorganisms is not “ice”.

Replacement procedure

I’ll show you the example of the Lada Granta FL “Classic Optima” configuration. This is one of the cheapest cars. Let's see how it changes and what it looks like after 4 thousand km. It is better to install a new filter that is not carbon, since with it the air pressure will be weaker and it will cost more.

To replace the cabin filter, you need to raise the wipers. But after this you will not be able to open the hood. That is, you need to remove the right wiper, then open the hood. Then you can raise the wiper arm up.

The filter is located on the right side as the car moves. It’s worse than using a Grant to replace it only with a Lada Vesta. It’s more convenient to change it on the “Korean” ones - open the glove compartment and get access to the cabin filter. It is inconvenient to change it here; if it is raining, snowing or frosty outside, then it is better to work in the garage.

First, remove the plastic casing. It is slightly modified when compared to the updated Grant. Before restyling there were no plugs that needed to be picked out. But with them the car looks more beautiful.

There are updated plastic linings, and the splash guards have been moved from the hood. The old Grants did not have injectors on the pads. The wiper still interferes with removing the cover, but it can be removed. Now we get access to the casing behind which the cabin filter is installed. How spacious is the liftback's trunk? The “passport” data indicates a figure of 430 liters, but the sedan has 480 liters! The fact is that AvtoVAZ’s methods for measuring trunk volume have changed: the sedan’s cargo compartment was measured with balls, and the liftback’s with volumetric cubes.

The second method is more correct from a practical point of view, but gives less results. It should be noted that folding the second row seats increases the capacity of the liftback luggage compartment to 760 liters.

This is even more than the Kalina model with a trunk volume of 670 liters. The rear row folds in a 30:70 ratio. To fold the backrests flush with the trunk floor, you will have to move the front seats back.
