To obtain maximum power, the resistance in the intake tract must be minimal, which will allow large volumes of air to enter the combustion chamber. This is especially important when working at medium and high speeds. But on the other hand, if the damper opens instantly, the vacuum in the diffuser drops, leaving the mixture leaner.

The rate of filling the chamber with air decreases and this causes a decrease in power at low speeds. On carburetors of engines 2109.21083, the diameter of the main Solex diffusers is reduced - 21 mm and 23 mm, respectively, in the 1st and 2nd chambers. Thanks to this, it was possible to achieve acceptable mixture formation at low speeds (as on an engine with an injector), sacrificing the loss of power and elasticity of the VAZ engine at medium and high engine speeds.

Settings

  3. Turn the air damper lever until it is completely open.
  4. In the cabin on the instrument panel there is an air damper drive lever - press it all the way.
  5. Pull the rod all the way out and tighten the bolt that secures the rod to the air mixture lever.
  6. Pull the air damper control lever on the instrument panel all the way. If the air damper does not close completely after this, then slightly open the bolt securing the traction cover and, moving the cover, completely close the throttle damper. The bolt can now be tightened.
  7. Place the minus terminal and filter in place.

Tuning process

Do-it-yourself VAZ 2109 engine tuning begins with removing the engine from the car. So, you will have to turn off the power supply, ignition system and other systems. So, let's look at all the stages of modifying the engine yourself. It is impossible to carry out complete tuning with your own hands, since you will still have to contact a car service at some stages.

Removing the motor

To remove the engine you will have to go through a certain process of disconnecting and dismantling the auxiliary systems. So, let's get started with the process:

  1. Remove the battery and holding shelf.
  2. We remove the air filter and carburetor.
  3. We remove the ignition elements that are located in the engine compartment.
  4. Drain the coolant and engine oil.

Disassembling the power unit

Disassembling the power unit is done in a few hours. So, first you need to dismantle the cylinder head cover and the oil pan. It is best to carry out this operation on a special stand.

After this, we begin to remove the main components. Unscrew the bolts securing the cylinder head and cylinder block. Then, we set the head aside and work directly with the cylinder block. So, let's look at what you have to remove:

  1. Unscrew the yoke and remove the crankshaft. First we dismantle the pulley.
  2. We dismantle the water and oil pump.
  3. We take out the piston group. We dismantle the connecting rods. If there is, you need to remove the sleeves.
  4. Now, the block is ready for further manipulations.
  5. The last step is washing the parts and the block.

Once the block is disassembled, you can proceed to disassembling the cylinder head.

  1. Remove the camshaft cover.
  2. We remove the camshaft.
  3. We dry out the valves.
  4. Remove the springs and seals.
  5. We take out the valves.
  6. We knock out the saddle and guide bushings from the head.
  7. We wash the parts and the base of the head.

Determining Rework Priorities

To increase the power of the VAZ 2109 carburetor engine, you will need to purchase a piston group, valves, camshaft, connecting rods and crankshaft. All these parts must be lightweight and manufactured by tuning manufacturers.

Thus, the piston group, valves and seats are suitable for ATI. It is best to install bronze guide bushings made by the American manufacturer K-line. The crankshaft and camshaft are purchased from the German company TDR.

We assemble the piston assembly, namely, we attach the pistons to the connecting rods. Then, you can begin the so-called “dressing” process. This refers to the attachment of connecting rods with pistons to the crankshaft. We install the crankshaft oil seals and bearings. We install the yoke and you can fix the pallet. Then, the remaining auxiliary components, such as the pulley, water pump and roller, are assembled.

And there it was conceived that through the second exhaust pipe, when the second shock absorber is closed, air is drawn into the first nozzle, rather than fuel being sucked in. Although a nozzle was installed on the Nivovsky Solex, the requirements for fuel supply are higher, and this additional fuel intake is taken into account in the adjustments.
