In terms of space and comfort of the interior, the Granta is seriously inferior. Granta's base is 2476 mm, Ixray's is 2592 mm. The front track of the Xray is 50 mm wider, the rear track is 100 mm wider.

Based on the results of the impact, Grante was awarded only two stars: in the accident, the driver receives serious injuries to the chest and hips, and the passenger also suffers a head injury. XRAY earned four stars in a similar test, which is a good indicator among its classmates.

Cabin space

I am 177 cm tall, I sit behind the wheel in X-Ray to drive comfortably. There is nothing restricting the front. Unlike Vesta, the landing is like a jeep. You sit higher, creating the illusion of an SUV. If you sit in the back, then given my height, legroom is already limited, but there is no discomfort.

On the Lada Vesta, with the seat fully raised, the landing position is more car-low. For those who like to drive off-road, the Lada XRay gives some advantage. Moving backwards, there is noticeably more legroom due to the longer wheelbase. This cannot be called a disadvantage of X-Ray; many people specifically choose a compact car. It's more convenient in the city.

Granta will take revenge

The true age of the car is difficult to hide even behind its bright modern appearance. Lada Granta is the heir to the automotive traditions of forty years ago. And that is why it is inferior to recent models in such important criteria as safety and comfort. Its main advantage is its low cost.

The new generation of Lada Granta will be built on the CMF-B LS platform, which will be common to all new Lada models. This cart is more modern than the B0 and Global Access. Then we’ll see what the new Grant is capable of.

How does X Ray ride?

On the Lada XRay you can confidently drive along a country road without fear of catching anything. In general, both cars will have no problems with light off-road conditions. X-Ray walks along the highway rather confusedly. There is a “Sport” button, a very nice feature, it prevents the speed from dropping too much. The chassis is configured normally, the car has received more exciting “taxiing”.

An interesting feature of the Lada Ride Select. When switching to the “snow-mud” position, a corresponding icon appears on the instrument panel. I tried driving through snow, puddles and mud. The car does not grind its wheels anywhere, it drives calmly. When driving onto the highway, I turned on the “sport” mode, the car immediately changed the mode. A sporty style appeared. In this mode, fuel consumption will be slightly higher.

Suspension: all on a subframe

Granta is the last model we produce without a subframe. When the first G8s were designed, the body was literally load-bearing. The suspension arms, braces, anti-roll bar and steering mechanism were separately attached to it. It was believed that the body rigidity was sufficient to ensure proper handling.

On the Lada XRAY, a rigid subframe attached to the side members of the car at four points combines many components in the front part of the car. The suspension arms, steering gear, anti-roll bar and even the rear support of the power unit are attached to the subframe. This scheme not only improves handling, but also increases the safety of the car in an accident.

At the rear of both cars there is a semi-independent torsion beam. The Granta has shock absorbers installed inside the springs, while the Xray, like all cars on the B0 platform, has springs and shock absorbers separated. This arrangement, firstly, allows you to get many suspension options with different load capacities. Secondly, it allows you to make the trunk more convenient in shape. It is no coincidence that almost all world manufacturers have switched to such a semi-independent rear suspension scheme.

A multimedia system with a rear view camera and dynamic lines is installed throughout the cabin in the luxury configuration. They show everything well.

The “luxury” has full power accessories, heated mirrors with a folding function, and power windows. There is a USB charger and a climate control unit. Everything is perceived intuitively simply. I really like that the radio and cruise control controls are located on the multifunction steering wheel. Heated windshield and seats. Moreover, the seats have three-stage temperature adjustment.

The glove compartment is large with a cooling function. Expensive versions of Vesta have heated rear seats, as well as a rear armrest. The interior, of course, is not made of premium materials. It is in the same class as all cars like Lada Vesta. The materials do not cause rejection, the plastic is hard. But you won’t have to lie or sleep on it.

The interior decoration is quite modern and bright, giving comfort. All keys are located in their places. The first time you get into this car, you can simply drive it intuitively. Among the pleasant little things are the mirrors on the visors and the eyeglass case on the left. The side handrails are made with a microlift.

I am considering this car in a luxury configuration, two-tone interior.

It looks very interesting, bright. Also a standard set of functions: climate control, heated windshield, front and rear seats. But there is no armrest at the back. Regarding multimedia, I don’t like that the flash drive sticks out in front; if it is long, you can break it with your hand. Navigation in stock version is very bad. Formally it exists, but in reality it doesn’t. It only shows the streets, but not the houses.

There is a heated steering wheel, which is covered in leather from the factory. There is also a mode switching puck - Lada Ride Select, which Vesta does not have and is unlikely to appear in the near future. The glove box is also large and illuminated. Also on the steering wheel there are controls for the radio, speakerphone, and cruise control.

A huge disadvantage in the configuration with a CVT is that the cruise control is not on the steering wheel, but on the lower left of the panel.

The rear view camera is displayed on the screen, but the lines are not dynamic. On the visors there is a mirror only on the right side, it does not close.

Lada XRAY is a high hatchback from AvtoVAZ, a pre-production version of which was shown at the Moscow Motor Show in two thousand and fourteen along with the Lada Vesta sedan. At the beginning of November fifteenth, the manufacturer officially presented the commercial version of the new product.

In general, the appearance of the car at the time of presentation was not a secret. The design of the new Lada X Ray 2018-2019 (photo and price) is made in the company’s corporate style, developed by Steve Mattin. The key feature of the appearance is the X-shaped front end, as well as the corresponding stampings on the sidewalls. The latter are quite difficult for mass production, so it’s good that they still made it to the assembly line.

This style was first tested on the original XRAY concept - Mattin’s first work at AvtoVAZ. Of course, that prototype still looks much more impressive today than the serial X-Ray, but it was just a show car to attract attention - without a full-fledged chassis at its core.
