At the beginning of 2012, the AvtoVAZ plant launched its new Lada Priora sedan model for sale. Those who prefer cars from this manufacturer were happy about the release of the new model, and fans spoke about the new product not only on the good side, there were also negative reviews, buyers did not like its foreign name and the fact that it looked like a “top ten”.

The new Lada Priora 2013-2014, of course, can be called a completely new car, but it only strongly resembles the VAZ-2110 car. Representatives of the plant admitted to the fact that the first Priora cars, oddly enough, turned out to be “tens” cars that had undergone comprehensive modernization, but after some time everything changed. At the moment, the new car bears almost no resemblance to its predecessor; almost every detail has been updated. The car was equipped with a completely new engine, increasing its volume and power, and the suspension was also modernized. The body structure and steering have changed.

Color change

“First impressions: the car needs to be rolled out, it doesn’t drive. There is no sound insulation, locks and door handles require improvement. The standard tires are noisy and dull. You’re riding like you’re on stumps.”

“In two difficult months, the car covered 18,000 km, but did not cause any problems. The chassis, in my opinion, is quite tolerable, the only thing is that a knock is heard in the right pillar when passing speed bumps. I came to the service, looked at it - everything is fine, they say it’s their illness. The brakes are not bad, 4"...

I compare the impressions of Moscow Prior owners with my own. The cars have the same 98-horsepower engines, so there are no fundamental differences in movement. The suspensions regularly absorb large bumps, but shake on small bumps. However, the gray car is more interesting at the level of nuances: it is more composed in corners, a little more stable on the way out, and absorbs road bumps more smoothly.

In terms of acceleration dynamics, the new and old “Priors” are practically no different from each other, while a noticeable monotonous rumble fills the interior. I remember that during our first meeting with the car they told us about improving the sound insulation. We measured the noise level in the cabin (both Prioras were shod with the standard Kama-Euro) and were surprised: the new car turned out to be not as quiet as the previous version! The reason was found in the trunk: it turned out that the carpet in the pre-restyling car was thicker.

The steering is equally uninformative, and the updated car has a sharper steering wheel only in the Lux. We are waiting for him in other modifications.

“The transmission works fine, except for first gear. I switch to lower with effort. This happened to me on all Zhiguli cars, from the “six” to the “ten,” - I continue to study the forum of Prior owners.

The white Priora has a similar behavior, but here the fifth gear is difficult to engage. I push the lever by force, and it doesn’t work the first time. In a restyled car, it is more convenient to operate the lever. New cable driven unit? Unfortunately, no: both have well-known boxes with the VAZ-2112 index, which my colleague was not enthusiastic about when he tried out the new Priora in Tolyatti. Therefore, they decided: these are the features of specific machines. I would like to believe that the better performance of the transmission is evidence of improved build quality. By the way, when the engines are idling, the gearbox levers of our pair vibrate equally strongly.

The brakes lack information content and tenacity of reactions. The mechanisms seem to be lubricated with soap: I press the pedal - and every time I am dissatisfied with the rate of deceleration. I want to push the pedal harder, but the travel is not unlimited.

I remember the “Chinese” - “Lifan-Solano” and “FAW-Oley”, which I had a chance to ride on earlier. I liked the braking performance of these budget sedans much more. I wish the replacement of the Priora that her main automotive system becomes clearer and more reliable.

Well, although our pair is not in the richest configurations, there are more than enough differences between them. But there is also a “Lux”, in which you will find a multimedia system, side airbags and a more powerful 106-horsepower engine. But even without that, the old Priora still pales in comparison to the new one. However, only a new model can correct the global shortcomings of the Priora. Completely new in design.

New Lada Priora 2013-2014: appearance

Electrical equipment was also replaced. The designers worked on the interior, so this affected the ergonomics of the car, and also improved noise and vibration insulation. Priora, when compared with its predecessor, has become a much more presentable car. If you examine the car more closely, neither the front nor the rear bumper of the car reminds you that the car appeared on the roads from the last century; this is felt due to the fact that designers from Italy worked on the exterior design of the new product. But the profile of the car was not finalized a bit, and they decided not to get rid of the doors that the predecessor had. Also, the creators did not work on the gaps between the body parts; they remained the same, but in new cars they should be much smaller. The doors should close much more quietly, although this could be worked on before the car goes to market. The doors were not poorly made, but the power window buttons are very uncomfortable and require significant effort to press them.

New Lada Priora 2013-2014: car body

Starting from 2008, cars other than those with a sedan body began to be converted into a Lada Priora in a hatchback body, and starting in June 2009, they began to produce a car in a station wagon body, which later entered the market. Starting in 2010, we launched production and began selling the Lada Priora coupe model. Although the station wagon cannot be called elegant, it is very practical. But the hatchback car was recognized as not only versatile, practical, but also cute.

The interior design of the car is quite nice. The front panel is made of decent plastic, and the center console is also quite acceptable. It is also worth noting that the car has virtually no plastic joints, which means that sound insulation has increased. But there are also disadvantages, which are that the plant has not yet come up with a standard radio for the car that would fit well with the design in the cabin. The dashboard can be called quite practical, but as for the steering wheel, in accordance with modern standards, it is underdeveloped. But there is a plus in the electric power steering, so driving the car has become easier, especially when turning.

New Lada Priora 2014: safety issues

I would also like to note that our manufacturer, like foreign manufacturers, began to make sure that the driver and passengers feel safe while in the car. Safety in the car is represented by an ABS system, belt tensioners, alloy wheels and air conditioning. Also, the luxury car is equipped with an alarm system, parking sensors, and many other amenities. The equipment of this car is much better if you compare it with those cars that are in the same sector and are sold at the same price.

Features of the Long modification

The main, most noticeable change concerned the appearance. If the issue with the production of longer doors at AvtoVAZ was settled, then no one wanted to be bothered with the production of longer glasses; an additional glass section had to be installed at the back, separating it with a stand. The electric drive drives only the main part of the glass. By the way, electric drive of all mirrors is part of the basic package.

The basic package also includes:

Big car - big wheels! Priora Premier, just like the luxury VAZ-2170, moves only on wheels of 15 radius. People take this car instead of the regular Priora because of the impressions it gives. When a seemingly reinforced “engine” is installed in order to pull a large mass, accelerates the car to almost 200 km/h, and at the same time does not lose stability on the road, this is a reason for which it is worth overpaying. The basic package already includes many of the luxury features of the Priora and, as a bonus, comes with wooden inserts, so the Premier is a unique car.

New Lada Priora disadvantages

The quality with which the new Lada Priora 2013-2014 is assembled is spoiled by some little things: sometimes the lock in the glove compartment does not work, there are very noticeable flaws in the eyeglass case, which is located on the ceiling, it is quite weak and over time it simply falls off. At the moment, the manufacturer has already eliminated almost all the deficiencies.

On the track, the new product holds up much better than its predecessor, considering that it was equipped with a new engine, the volume of which was 1.6 liters with a power of 99 horsepower with a peak torque of 145 Nm. The manufacturer says that in fact the car produces 110 horsepower, and less is indicated because the car then falls under a lower tax category.

This car should not be considered a piece of work that has constant problems with the struts. The company's engineers changed the damping characteristics, installed new springs, and also equipped the car with a rear stabilizer, and the front stabilizer was enlarged. The car body was also made more rigid. Made the steering lighter and kept the ride smooth. The new product has become much quieter than its predecessor, although you can hear the engine running in the cabin.

If we compare this car with our other cars, it surpasses them many times over.

The transmission has remained virtually unchanged. Gear shifts are not very clear, and in order to engage reverse gear you need to make an effort.

Specifications

Powertrain and transmission

The updated version received a pair of gasoline engines and 2 gearboxes. As the “junior” representative, they chose the VAZ-21126 in-line 1.6-liter four-cylinder power plant, which received a 16-valve DOHC gas distribution system and distributed gasoline injection technology.

This “engine” generates 98 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Such an engine was synchronized with a five-speed “mechanics”, which received a cable drive. It will take 11.5 seconds to accelerate to the speed mark of 100 km/h, and the top speed is 183 kilometers per hour.

We decided to use the 4-cylinder 1.6-liter version of the VAZ-21127 as the “top” option. The engine received a modified fuel injection system and dynamic supercharging. All this allows the engine to produce 106 horsepower and 148 Nm. The power unit of the Lada Priora works with a manual gearbox, as well as with a 5-band “robot” with the option of manual gear shifting.

With a manual transmission, the car accelerates to the first hundred in 11.5 seconds, but with a robotic gearbox this figure rises to 12.6 seconds. The maximum speed does not exceed 183 kilometers per hour. Two power plants meet Euro-4 environmental standards. The weakest “engine” requires 6.9 liters of gasoline, and more powerful engines “eat” from 6.6 to 6.8 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.

At the beginning of 2016, they decided not to use the 98-horsepower power plant of the updated Lada Priora in new models. It was replaced by a new basic version, representing a petrol, four-cylinder naturally aspirated, 1.6-liter unit. The engine has an 8-valve gas distribution mechanism and a distributed gasoline injection system.

We decided to use the platform from the Lada 110 as the basis, but it was slightly changed. At the front there is an independent suspension with standard McPherson struts, and at the rear there is a semi-independent suspension with an elastic cross member. There are anti-roll bars at the front and rear.

Brake system

The braking system has ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The sedan is controlled using rack and pinion steering, supplemented by an electromechanical amplifier. The simplest version has a hydraulic booster.

Safety

According to company representatives, the model has been seriously improved in terms of safety. The car has:

  • Daytime running lights that turn on and off automatically;
  • Reinforced protective beams located in the front doors;
  • Foamed polymer inserts between the bumper and the stiffening beam;
  • Anti-lock braking system;
  • Emergency braking assistance system;
  • Eyelets for fastening child seats according to ISOFIX standards;
  • Headlights with daytime running light function;
  • Reinforced front seat frame;
  • An airbag that protects the owner’s health in emergency situations;
  • Body frame modified to EuroNCap standards.
