All changes in Lada Vesta over five years: find out your version!


Do you remember what kind of information noise around Vesta in 2015 was created by the team of Bo Andersson (president of AVTOVAZ at that time)? Against this background, it was impossible to shift the start date. Therefore, the improvements of the first year were, rather, those solutions that did not have time to be implemented on the assembly line before the start of production and sales. But it was the malfunctions of the first West that formed the image of a not very reliable model. For many of them, the manufacturer carried out a so-called “soft recall”, when the unit was replaced under warranty without further ado from the dealer.

Where did the French gearbox go?

The first Wests received a Renault JH3 manual transmission. The initiator of this decision was Andersson, explaining it by the too high noise level of the Russian analogue. But in 2016, after the departure of Uncle Boo (as Andersson was nicknamed), the VAZ team replaced the French mechanics with the Russian 21807 - this is a reinforced version of the VAZ-2180 gearbox with a cable-driven shift mechanism, which is installed on Grants, Kalinas and Priors. Modification 21807 is designed for greater torque than 2180 and has better consumer properties: new equipment was installed at the plant for the production of parts for the main pair and second gear. But despite the measures taken, our box remained noisier than the French unit. But it allowed us to reduce the cost of production.

Results

The model is expected to go on sale no earlier than 2022. A little more time is needed to refine the application and introduce new options into the design part.

After the work is completed, the car will go into mass production. The new Lada Vesta SV 2022 is still being finalized, and final photos of the configuration and prices will appear closer to the start of sales. The car will definitely interest potential buyers both in its new functions and in its good technical equipment.

New modifications

In 2022, the 1.6 engine was made “plug-inless” - if the timing belt breaks, the valves remain intact. This was achieved by changing the design of the piston - grooves appeared for the full stroke of the valve. An anti-friction coating was also applied to the piston.

And recently, in addition to two Russian ones, Vesta’s range also included a French engine: H4M (Renault and Lada classification) or HR16 (Nissan) with a displacement of 1.6 liters. This engine owes its appearance to the Jatco JF015E variator, in tandem with which it works. The CVT made it possible to finally abandon the problematic AMT.

Engine production is localized in Tolyatti, and CVTs are supplied from a plant in Japan. The same units are produced at alliance enterprises in Thailand and Mexico. But there are all the prerequisites for the fact that AVTOVAZ will soon launch the production of CVTs.

With the new power unit, Vesta’s fuel consumption was 7.1 liters per hundred in the combined cycle. Ground clearance has not changed, and acceleration to 100 km/h now takes 11.3 seconds. Maximum speed is 175 km/h.

This power unit is not new. Renault-Nissan alliance specialists have already eliminated almost all of its main shortcomings. VAZ employees claim that this Lada can travel up to 200,000 km with proper maintenance.

Design

The usual approach to domestic cars has always been that people made excuses for their choice. Inexpensive car, looks no worse than it did before. Apparently, the designers got pretty tired of this and decided to make a revolution within the framework of a specific model. In fact, the Lada Vesta SV 2022 began to look decent. It can be easily compared with similar models from other brands. Of course, it is difficult for her to compete with the Germans or Japanese, but she can easily compete with the Koreans and Chinese.

The front bumper body kit has been modified. The headlights have become larger. The side of the car did not receive any major interventions. The rear part began to seriously differ from a similar sedan car. The body kit has become more sporty and more massive. The ground clearance has been increased. There are large lanterns here. In general, the rear part has become more interesting and harmoniously complements the entire appearance of the car.

The color palette offered for body painting has expanded. Now it is even easier for the buyer to choose the option he likes.

The interior decoration has not changed in terms of the layout and arrangement of its individual elements. Better quality fabric began to be used, and the plastic became pleasant to the touch. All elements are carefully adjusted to each other, which will avoid the appearance of various “crickets” during operation.

The main advantage of the Lada Vesta SV 2022 is its luggage compartment. It has already been mentioned above. It is worth mentioning again the good volume - 480 and 825 liters, depending on the position of the backs of the second row of seats. They do not fold down to a flat surface, which, however, does not interfere with transporting large cargo.

The interior seats will become more comfortable. Their filling will be changed and lateral support will be improved.

Additional features that appeared after the update include an electric trunk lid. Also very soon there will be an update to the multimedia system - support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be offered.

Lada Vesta SV 2022 will be equipped with options that are very useful during the cold season. These include a heated steering wheel. In addition, a modification will be offered that includes starting the engine from a button and starting the engine remotely.

Active work continues on the development of the proprietary LADA Connect application. It will help you control your car remotely. The driver will be able to do the following from his smartphone:

  • check the air temperature in the cabin,
  • check the battery charge level,
  • lock or unlock the car from a distance.

Options, necessary and not so necessary

With the advent of the station wagon, other options became available:

  • Rear disc brakes (previously drum brakes)
  • New dashboard
  • Armrest of the second row (in top trim levels)
  • External trunk release button
  • Lockable fuel filler door
  • Antenna in the form of a fin.
  • Multi-level heated seats
  • Climate control

New door stops were introduced in August 2022. The old ones did not perform the function of fixing and holding the door in the desired position. We can say that this (along with the armrest) was the little thing that spoiled the overall impression.

Some changes are difficult to explain by anything other than the desire of marketers to give Vesta the image of a modern car. For example, the smooth opening of the glove compartment lid appeared in the summer of 2022. This also includes the cup holder integrated into this lid. What about the function of atmospheric interior lighting (LEDs in the feet of the driver and passengers)? Is it really needed?

Exterior changes

The car now has completely new bumpers, a radiator grille, headlights, the trunk lid will have a different shape, and the design on the rims will change.

Also, the Lada Vesta Fecelift (FL) received more streamlined side mirrors; they are now attached and folded differently. The windshield washer nozzles were removed from the hood to the extreme part of the engine compartment (like the Lada Vesta Sport).

Much more extensive changes have been made to the interiors of sedans (this also applies to the “Sport” and “Cross” versions) and Vesta SW and SW Cross station wagons.

It's worth a look there too. When you get into a car, the first thing you notice is the smell. It comes from the inexpensive plastic that is present in the interior trim. Don't forget that this is still a budget car. The manufacturer saved on almost everything.

To transport children, the car is equipped with 2 ISOFIX anchorages. Therefore, the Cross SV can easily fit two child seats. Front passengers will be more comfortable than rear passengers. A modified glove compartment with two compartments and an organizer appeared in front. There is also a place for a mug.

The trunk is very roomy. If you fold the rear seats, its volume is 825 liters. The standard version has 480 liters. The luggage compartment floor consists of two parts. Now under the lid you can find an organizer consisting of 2 containers.
