After struggling with the suspension, it was time to tackle the engine. Here, in addition to milling the cylinder head, we had to change the pump and all the accompanying belts and rollers, and tensioners. Probably due to insufficient cooling at one time the head was removed, which resulted in subsequent repairs. The amount of investment in the spring car repairs, including the suspension, amounted to 24,420 rubles.

The summer of 2014 passed without major investments, and in September it was time for maintenance. The service cost 430 rubles.

At the end of the year in December, the car owner faced new expenses: pads and bearings. Replacing the pads in a circle and bearings cost 2,000 rubles.

With these investments, the calculation of expenses for the car was stopped and the total amount was more than 54 thousand rubles. Although Oleg himself says that about 70 thousand were invested, it’s just that not all of the receipts were preserved.

It was during this period that VAZ-2113, 2114 and 2115 were equipped with both 1.6 liter and 1.5 liter engines, the characteristics of which are outlined above.

In fact, they are no different, except for volume, exhaust standards, fuel supply systems and a pair of sensors. Therefore, the main distinguishing point is the engine size. A difference of 0.1 liters gives more torque from the bottom, adds a little maximum power and, perhaps, the same or even lower fuel consumption than 1.5 liters. The only negative is that it is noisier at idle.

Previously, in the years 2008-2012, people were reluctant to buy 1.6 liter models, saying they were loud, prone to breakdowns, etc. In fact, it is superior to the 1.5 liter engine in all respects. What to look for when buying a used VAZ-2114 Lada Samara

At the end of 2013, a historical event took place in Russia - the last VAZ-2114 (Lada Samara-2) rolled off the AvtoVAZ assembly line. It was replaced by the modern Lada Granta. In general, the family of all-wheel drive cars of the Lada Samara series has been produced on the domestic market for more than 30 years.

Let us recall that the Lada Samara-2 VAZ-2114 replaced the VAZ-2109, which was produced since 1987. VAZ-2114 debuted on the market in 1998.

It is worth noting that with the change of generations, a technical revolution did not occur. In principle, purely technically, the VAZ-2114 is the same VAZ-2109, with the exception of a new steering rack and front brakes, which the 14th received from the VAZ-2110. The car also received a 1.5-liter engine with distributed fuel injection and an upgraded manual transmission. Everything else is the usual external and internal restyling.

Electrical problems

If you notice that your VAZ 2114 is difficult to start, then first of all you should check the main electrical components and assemblies that affect its operation.

If the ignition coil (or rather the block) is working properly, then you should proceed to diagnosing the starter.

Motor

Initially, the VAZ-2114 received a 1.5-liter 8-valve engine. In 2007, it was replaced by a 1.6-liter eight-valve engine with a similar design. The advantage of these engines is that if for some reason the timing belt breaks, the engine valves do not meet the pistons. And this is important, since timing belt breakage on this model is not uncommon. Moreover, even with a short mileage after replacing the belt.

The engines are quite reliable and can run up to 350-400 thousand km without problems. By the way, do not be alarmed by the knocking of valves when the engine is running. The ground clearance on standard 14-inch wheels is 16.5 centimeters.

This is quite enough to easily drive into the forest, fishing or anywhere else on dirt roads. The car also performs well on loose snow. It is difficult to bury the “four” and place it on its belly. Cross-country ability is one of the main advantages of a car of this model.

The weakest link of the manual transmission is the domestic clutch kit. Therefore, if you don’t want headaches, buy foreign analogues.

Don't be alarmed by the loud noise of the 5-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, the manufacturing quality of the gears and synchronizers of the VAZ-2114 gearbox was not very good; they howled even on new cars. As on the Lada Grant, wear of the second gear (synchronizers) occurs most quickly in the gearbox.

Service technicians advise regularly monitoring the oil level in the gearbox and, if there is a shortage of oil, adding even more than the nominal value.

Transmission

The 5-speed manual, which has no alternative to the second-generation Samara, will not cause much trouble. A strong hum during operation is more a feature of the transmission than a malfunction. Due to the low quality of manufacturing of gearbox gears, the operation of the gearbox can be noisy at any age of the car. And, perhaps, the only really weak point of the mechanics is the second gear synchronizers, costing about 250 rubles, which fail among adherents of an aggressive driving style.

The original clutch, costing 2,800 rubles, on cars of this family lasts an average of 100,000 km. At the same time, both more frequent failures (every 50,000 km) and rare ones (every 150,000 - 200,000 km) are noted. You can increase the service life of this unit by replacing the clutch disc and basket with a release bearing, costing about 4,400 rubles from foreign manufacturers. But the probability of “getting” to replace them quickly increases when choosing a car raised above the ground.

Suspension

The suspension of the VAZ-2114 is the same chassis that you will find in the VAZ-2109. So the more modern VAZ-2114 has a certain reliability of the “nine” suspension. But, unfortunately, at the same time, the 14th model also adopted all the childhood sores of the chassis due to design features.

For example, in the VAZ-2114, as in the VAZ-2109, it is still not uncommon for rubber to peel off from the upper shock absorber mounts. Also, do not expect reliability from the aluminum brace brackets, which will burst very quickly from impacts. Fortunately, the supports are usually replaced with imported analogues, which, fortunately, are abundant on the market. Also, instead of aluminum brackets, you can install steel ones. In principle, these are all common problems with the VAZ-2114 chassis. There are no complaints about the ball ones. They travel 80-100 thousand km without any problems. Yes, of course, the original shock absorbers on a VAZ-2114 can leak quite quickly. But they can be replaced with imported analogues, and you will forget about this problem.

The steering rack usually runs 60 thousand km without any problems. Then the knocking starts. But this is usually solved by tightening the steering rack adjusting nut, and you will forget about the steering until 100 thousand km, where you will have to change the steering rods.

Continuation of the legend

The second generation of the Lada Samara family was, in fact, a thorough update of the three- and five-door hatchbacks VAZ-2108 and 2109, beloved by our compatriots, as well as the 21099 sedan. The first, after modernization, received the indices VAZ 2113 and 2114, respectively, and the latter was called VAZ-2115. Moreover, the four-door came out earlier. In 1997, its assembly began in the pilot industrial production of AvtoVAZ.

The novelty received a new trunk lid with a spoiler in which a brake light was built in, other taillights with an insert between them, bumpers painted in body color, door moldings and sill fairings. But the interior of the sedan remained the same from the VAZ-21099 model until 2001, when the “fifteenth” was put on the factory assembly line. She finally replaced her predecessor in 2005.

The second one appeared in April 2003, the five-door 2114. It was distinguished from the “nine” by a new design of the front part: headlights, fog lights, fenders, hood, as well as radiator trim, bumpers, moldings and spoilers painted in body color. The interior has a new “Europanel”, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel from the “ten” and a new design of cabin heater. Since 2007, the Europanel has become tougher, quieter, and has acquired an on-board computer and an instrument cluster with two LCD indicators. They showed the outside temperature, time and voltage in the on-board network.

The updated three-door VAZ-2113 might not have existed. Due to the low demand for the G8, they planned to simply close its production line. But later they changed their minds and left it in production with a limited volume. Like the five-door, it received a new front end, bumpers, lights and rear spoiler. The interior of the hatchback was mainly borrowed from two other models of the Samara 2 family, retaining only the ceiling and interior door panels from its predecessor. By the way, along with the release of the VAZ-2113, the number 2 was removed from the designations of all three models, after which they were sent for export under the names Lada 115, 114 and 115.
