Immediately after its appearance on the market, the new station wagon from AvtoVAZ, Vesta SW Cross, managed to win several prizes. A slightly different situation is brewing with the sedan. The manufacturer continues to test the new product, but is still silent about its release date. Some experts hope that the premiere will take place this year, but there are also skeptics who predict the start of production only in 2022.

As of April 2022, for owners of sedans who are also fans of off-road models, there is only one chance to transform their Lada Vesta - to purchase and install a Yurol body kit, as a kind of tuning. This is guaranteed to allow the updated car to look advantageous in traffic compared to other Lada Vesta sedans.

Engine and transmission

If desired, these machines can be equipped with several models of engines, which will result in different indicators:

  1. Vesta can be equipped with an engine of 106 “horses”, the volume of which will be 1.6 liters, also four cylinders and 16 valves, which will allow it to accelerate to 100 km in approximately 11.30 seconds. With this configuration, X Rey will reach a similar speed in almost 12 seconds.
  2. The second engine, with a power of 122 horsepower and a volume of 1.8 liters, makes it possible to accelerate to one hundred kilometers in almost 11 seconds.

The transmission of both cars is identical and exists in two variations:

  • five-speed manual transmission from French manufacturers;
  • domestic robotic automatic transmission.

The differences lie in the engine, namely:

  1. In Vesta, the first is 1.6 liters and is combined with MT and AMT, the second is 1.8 liters, and only with AMT.
  2. X Ray has the opposite, and this is its advantage, since its mechanics have the most powerful engine among the VAZ line of cars.

Let's look under the bottom - replacing the engine protection

No matter what anyone says, progress is felt, there are many innovations. The rear springs are separate from the struts; now you can easily change them and experiment with them every day. Very convenient for repairs.

Tuning an engine on a fret is an extremely simple process, it takes time, but is worth the money. The main idea seems to be the installation of USA 8.6 camshafts with an engine chip. So the engine power rises to 177 hp. STI and LGS camshafts are special shafts that increase dynamics at the same torque. Literally, at the same speed in stock and with camshafts, the car will drive with different dynamics.

Preparation and installation of Cross body kit

For this purpose, you don’t have to visit a service station, but perform all the steps independently. The process is characterized by simplicity and is not capable of raising any questions during its execution. Installation of body kit panels is carried out using double-sided tape and standard fasteners (screws). And the car looks much better with body kit.

To successfully implement this operation, a number of conditions will need to be met:

Wash the car body thoroughly. Dry those panels on which the body kit is supposed to be installed. Temperature conditions of at least 20 °C should be ensured. If the work is done in cold weather, then a heated box is suitable

It is important to warm up the body to prevent condensation from forming on its surface. This is relevant for the winter period

As tools, you will need to use a ratchet and a bit, the standard size of which is “T20N” (the profile is “asterisk”).

So, let's act.

  1. First, unscrew the factory screw on the lower sector of the front bumper.
  2. Now we unscrew a couple more screws at the bottom of the front fender.
  3. We install the trim included in the kit on the front wing under the surface of the standard fender liner.
  4. We align the element, achieving its correct fit in relation to the bumper and threshold.
  5. For fastening we use regular masking tape.
  6. Next, use colored stickers to mark the position of the lining. This is necessary to understand where to apply the primer.
  7. After applying the stickers, remove the masking tape and remove the element from the surface of the wing.
  8. Now we apply primer to the corresponding surfaces of the threshold and wing. Here you will need a brush.
  9. From the back surface of the plastic cover along the edges, remove the protective film from the 2-sided tape and bend the marked edges. Complete removal of the film is not required, since the component will immediately be glued to the metal, which will cause significant difficulties during subsequent adjustment.
  10. After partially removing the film, we install the trim on the front fender, and place its lower edge under the standard locker.
  11. Before finally removing the film from the tape and gluing the element, we install the sill trim and ensure its alignment with the component on the wing.
  12. When all the gaps are set correctly, remove the stickers.
  13. Now we completely remove the protective film and press the body kit element to the wing.
  14. The next step will involve the installation of a small element on the front bumper of the Lada Vesta. The entire list of actions is carried out according to the previously given algorithm. Here you will need to make adjustments to the element present on the wing. By the way, when it is installed, the mudguard can be returned to its original place.
  15. Next, we move on to installing the plastic threshold on the Lada Vesta, following the algorithm for: fitting, stickers, primer treatment and final gluing.
  16. The threshold at the bottom of the LADA Vesta needs to be additionally secured using plastic clamps (present in the kit). They must be installed in the marked places on the thresholds, with the convex part facing inward.
  17. Finally, we install the rear bumper and rear fender linings of the LADA Vesta. After this, the elements are secured with tape and screws. And Vesta is kitted out.

Some observations

:

  • One day, Vesta’s reverse gear stopped engaging. Snow adhered to the cable gear shift mechanism, and then it froze and turned into ice. The malfunction disappeared when the car warmed up a little and the ice melted.
  • There are no reliability complaints about the VAZ engine yet. As well as to the power units of Hyundai Creta and Ford Focus.
  • The Lada Vesta SW and SW Cross have the best visibility, the Focus has the worst.
  • Focus gets dirty least of all at low speeds, but most of all at high speeds. With Westies the situation is the opposite.

The engine could accelerate the car even faster, but due to the fact that the robotic gearbox does not work perfectly, this is impossible. If a powerful engine is important, then at the moment it is better to give preference to the Lada X-Ray car. Its engine range includes a powerful 122-horsepower engine, which is not available for Vesta. However, the company plans to fix this soon and begin installing the engine in the sedan. In this case, Vesta should become faster than X-Ray. Implementing this engine in a sedan is not the easiest task, so it is being postponed.

When the film is partially removed from the adhesive tape, the trim is installed on the front fender, and its lower edge is placed under the factory locker.

Before finally removing the protective film from the tape and gluing the component, you need to place the trim on the threshold and align it with the element on the wing. This is necessary to adjust the components and gaps. If everything is fine, you can remove the stickers.

Next, the protective film is removed from the tape, and the component itself is pressed against the wing.

Next, unscrew the 3 factory screws that hold the front mudguard in place. There is one plastic self-tapping screw located above the mudguard - this also needs to be unscrewed by prying the cap off with a knife or flat screwdriver.

It is recommended to start installing the Cross body kit on the Lada X-Ray from the large front arch, which is placed under the factory fender liner.

When installing thresholds, everything is done in exactly the same way, but you will have to partially remove the standard seals. The bottom thresholds need to be secured with plastic clips. The places for these fasteners are marked on the overlay from the X-Ray Cross body kit.

The trims for the rear arches are installed according to the same scheme - with preliminary fitting, unscrewing the necessary bolts and screws, applying a primer and gluing. After installation, you need to let the glue dry for 24 hours.
