LADA Priora is one of the most expensive and at the same time best-selling domestic cars. Local car enthusiasts prefer the Priora because it is considered a car that has stood the test of time. But deciding on a car brand is only half the battle. It is clear that we are taking Priora. But here an “internal” dilemma arises: which Prior should we take? And if your wallet will quickly help you decide on the configuration, then choosing the body type is not so simple. Priora sedan or hatchback - which car is worthy of being in your garage?
Lada Priora is a time-tested car
Let's get to know each other better
VAZ has been producing Priora since 2007. It was created on the platform of the notorious “ten” and inherited a lot from it. Priora is called a car for young people. She is praised for her good speed and ability to stay on the road well. There are complaints about the build quality and the low cross-country ability is not suitable for everyone. Nevertheless, the car is extremely popular.
External upgrade
In 2013, VAZ presented an updated version of the Lada Priora. It was equipped with a number of new options, improving its technical capabilities. The car has also changed in appearance. The new Priora has modern daytime optics that turn on automatically. The bumper was slightly modified, and the grille on the radiator was made in the form of a mesh. LEDs are installed in the rear lights and fogs.

Soft-look salon
What has changed in the salon? There's a lot to be said here. The designers used finishing materials atypical for VAZ , including soft-look - a new type of plastic that looks like expensive leather and at the same time withstands external influences well.
When finishing the interior of the Lada Priora car, a new type of soft-look plastic was used
A three-spoke steering wheel, a touch screen, more comfortable and higher seats with armrests - all this is the new Priora.
Motor data
The range of engines for this car has also been expanded. The coolest of them is designed for 1.6 liters. Its power is 106 “horses,” which is achieved thanks to an updated fuel injection system. With such an engine, the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 11 seconds and is ready to “give jazz” at speeds of 185 km/h and above. Gasoline consumption is 6.9 liters in mixed mode, and on the highway - 5 liters.
The car is front-wheel drive with 5 manual transmission.
Manufacturers paid special attention to safety issues, however, if the driver's airbag is included in the basic kit, then you will have to pay extra for the passenger airbag.

Tuning
As shown in the photo, the white Lada Priora hatchback is one of the cars that most successfully accepts the modernization of its appearance. Even a simple replacement of standard bumpers with restyled ones and tinting the windows gives the car individuality. However, the fantasies of car owners do not end there.
• Various types of body kits are used in the color of the Priora (pictured) hatchback white. Tuning bumpers and radiator grilles, installing a spoiler sometimes make a car completely unrecognizable, aggressive and impressive.
• Photo of a white Priora hatchback, tuning it in a retro style, can often be seen on the streets. Chrome-plated hubcaps in the style of the 50s of the last century and white rims on the wheels leave no one indifferent.
• The Lada Priora hatchback (pictured) is white, with red lighting at the bottom and looks very original.
• High-quality LEDs and eyelashes installed on a white Priora hatchback (photo below) will make the headlight tuning complete and the appearance seamless.
Tell me what body is yours...
The car is available in four body styles, but the most popular versions are the sedan and hatchback. There is also a station wagon
Let us remember that a sedan is a body with a luggage compartment, which is linearly separated from the passenger compartment. This is the most common body type among passenger cars. But the hatchback has a smaller trunk and a shortened rear overhang.
The trunk of the Lada Priora sedan holds 430 liters of cargo
Millimeter difference
Which is better - Lada Priora sedan or hatchback? Let's compare the dimensions. The Priora sedan is slightly longer than its competitor: 4350 mm versus 4210 for the hatchback. These models also differ in height: the hatchback has “grown” to 1435 mm, being 15 mm ahead of the sedan. But the width of the cars is equal, it is 1680 mm. Both cars also have the same ground clearance (165 mm) and track width of the front and rear wheels (1410 mm and 1380 mm, respectively).
An interesting point: the cars are almost identical in fuel consumption.
Your luggage
As we have already said, the sedan and hatchback differ in trunk capacity. In the case of the Priora, it looks like this... If the sedan takes 430 liters of cargo “on board”, then the hatchback in its original position is ready to take only 360 liters. At the same time, however, in the hatchback it is possible to fold the rear sofa and thereby increase the capacity of the luggage compartment to 705 liters.
Sport car
Very often, cars of the VAZ family are chosen as racing cars, especially for amateur competitions. One of the most suitable for these purposes is the white Priora hatchback. Pictures of sponsors advertising, riders' names and serial numbers are visible from afar on a white background.
Even the basic version of the car, the white Priora hatchback, features a sporty look. Tuning (photo below) will give it an aggressive and brutal look. Of course, a lot of work is required to upgrade the standard equipment to the racing version. But, as shown in the photo, the white Priora hatchback allows you to do it even in a garage, especially since there are no problems with purchasing components and spare parts for the Lada.

Sedan, sir
Priora sedan or hatchback is a tricky choice. And in order to do it correctly, “for yourself,” you need to know all the ins and outs.
Interestingly, the Priora sedan is the first model of this line. It is in this configuration that the Priora most closely resembles the ancestor of the “ten”, but the modernized interior, new engine and all sorts of modern “electric gadgets” indicate that the model has gone an order of magnitude higher. The sedan also has a softer suspension.
It turns out that the sedan has such a classic design. Of all the Priors, this car probably really looks more solid.
Review of the Lada Priora sedan:
Why do the owners of the Lada Priora reproach it for its operation?
The car turned out to be too “wooden,” as many buyers put it in their comments and reviews. A rigid suspension does not require constant maintenance, but does not offer comfort either. The packages for affordable prices included a steering wheel, pedals and wheels; the manufacturer did not implement anything else remarkable in the car. Also in extended reviews and among the opinions of experts, the following important disadvantages of the car can be identified:
- the robotic gearbox, which debuted in 2015, turned out to be not very reliable, and its repair costs owners incredible amounts of money, so this is a clear drawback;
- the interior is made of the simplest plastic, which constantly creaks and emits a not very pleasant smell, the fabric on the seats wears out quickly, you need to buy some kind of covers, the markings on the buttons are erased;
- the quality of the engines is difficult to dispute, but the reliability of the engines was in question; some owners of 16-valve units were faced with the need for major overhauls very early;
- the car is generally not suitable for long trips; on such trips you need to come up with some improvements for the seats, otherwise the back of the driver and passengers will simply fall apart;
- the car had to be seriously modified, installing different optics, some interior parts, improving sound insulation, and also performing a good anti-corrosion treatment every 3-4 years.
But even despite such shortcomings, we are ready to forgive the Priora a lot, since the car has become popular over the years of production and was liked by many Russian families. For some, this was the only opportunity to buy a more or less decent new car. Someone simply supported the domestic manufacturer and was satisfied with the purchase. It will not be possible to find any striking disadvantages in the design of the car, since this very design is extremely simple.
Adrenaline hatchback
The Priora in the hatchback body began to be produced a year later than the sedan - in 2008. Compared to the sedan, as car enthusiasts say, the rear lights, rear wheel arch, and body sides look better in the hatchback. In general, the “shortened” Priora is more generous with interesting maneuvers and boasts the ability to increase the luggage compartment. They say that the Priora hatchback has a certain sporty character and is therefore in demand among adrenaline junkies.
Review of the Lada Priora hatchback:
Flaws
• The white Priora hatchback (photo below) is difficult to see in heavy snow and fog, as it blends in with the environment. In this case, good side lights and driving in compliance with all traffic rules can help.
• In wet and dirty weather it gets dirty quickly, just like cars of any other color. However, on a white car, dirt is clearly visible and striking. Therefore, in the autumn-spring slushy season you will have to wash it more often.
• Drops of bitumen that will inevitably fall on the lower part of the body if you drive along a newly repaired road are best wiped off as quickly as possible. A slight delay and the rye-colored spots will remain on the surface of the Priora hatchback white car forever.
Facelift
On the training ground we looked like children looking for differences in two seemingly identical pictures. So, looking back at the pre-restyling car, which we immediately dubbed old, we begin to bend our fingers, counting the updates. The front bumper, which appeared on the model last year, has not changed, so at first glance both Prioras appear the same.
The only difference is the plastic radiator grille - the new honeycomb structure has refreshed the exterior. Although at a distance the honeycombs still need to be seen. The headlights are the same. I agree with the opinions of the owners on numerous forums: they work as they should.
In the stern, the main focus is on the lights. Now in their lower part there are LEDs, which are longer lasting than ordinary lamps that are on a white car. Larger reflectors on the bumper also help to outline the dimensions. At dusk, the new lighting technology really showed itself better - it was noticeably brighter.
Suppliers without Priora will have a hard time
At the moment, it has not been officially announced whether the Priora will be replaced by a new promising model. Earlier, information appeared that this same model would be shown at the Moscow Motor Show, but this data was not officially confirmed. General Director of the Association of Mechanical Engineering Enterprises “Automotive Industry Cluster of the Samara Region” Andrey Krainov is confident that there is no point in expecting a change in such a near future. The replacement will come in 2022, we are talking about a car on a new platform. According to Krainov, it is this new platform that the suppliers who previously supplied Volga cars will have to work with.
“Those who can only work for Priora will most likely have to leave the automotive industry,” Krainov believes. However, in his opinion, such a fate awaits only those companies that have not developed. “It’s very difficult to bring companies virtually from scratch to the world level, as the market demands. But now we are working with different suppliers and interacting with the regional government. I can say that everyone who works with us, and there are 16 such companies, will be able to continue producing auto components,” Krainov said. He noted that now everything is in the hands of the suppliers themselves - competitions are already being announced for further work with the new platform. And the one who develops production and flexibly responds to the needs of the modern market will win.

Anti-aging treatments
As soon as you start the engine, the new car’s low beam headlights flash, even if the switch is in the “0” position - convenient. The indicator squeaks to warn you that your seat belt is not fastened, and when you lightly touch the steering column, the turn signal flashes three times.
I turn on the side lights sequentially, then the headlights... Not one icon appears on the instrument panel, like in an old car, but two. It’s a small thing, but now you don’t have to guess what lighting equipment works.
The new instrument panel is more interesting in terms of design. In general, there were no special complaints about the previous one, but it was too simple and had already become familiar. And then there were the wide white arrows and well-arranged pictograms, and I immediately fell in love with the new product.
The updated dashboard not only refreshed the interior, but also added convenience. The on-board computer screen was placed in the center. There is no unnecessary beauty on the monitor, everything is simple, but large numbers are clearly visible in motion.
The driver's position is praised by many owners, but being 190 cm tall, I feel uncomfortable in the seat: there is very little space in the area of the pedal assembly of the old car, and there is not enough longitudinal adjustment of the seat. The updates have corrected the situation a little: the seat slides in the new car have been lengthened, so you don’t have to lean the back too much back.
The chair is denser, it better fixes the body in turns. The distance between the gas and brake pedals is noticeably greater. Having adjusted the driver's seats in both cars, I tried to sit back and couldn't. The backs were too close to the rear sofas. And if four people get into the car, I, the driver, will have to press my knees to my ears.
Options and prices
The white “Priora” (see photo in the article) with restyling from 2015 had a rich design even in the “Norma” package, which included: an airbag only for the driver, height adjustment of the steering wheel, Isofix-type child seat fastening, electric windows for front windows, heated and electric mirrors, comfortable armrests, standard immobilizer and audio preparation, on-board computer, electric power steering wheel, central locking and simple alarm system. Agree, the equipment is high for a domestic car. In the “Lux” versions, the car’s functions were not inferior even to many European C-classes.
On average in Russia, a white Priora in 2015 is sold at 422 thousand rubles. Luxury configurations were offered for a respectable 550 thousand rubles.

Color change
“First impressions: the car needs to be rolled out, it doesn’t drive. There is no sound insulation, locks and door handles require improvement. The standard tires are noisy and dull. You’re riding like you’re on stumps.”
“In two difficult months, the car covered 18,000 km, but did not cause any problems. The chassis, in my opinion, is quite tolerable, the only thing is that a knock is heard in the right pillar when passing speed bumps. I came to the service, looked at it - everything is fine, they say it’s their illness. The brakes are not bad, 4"...
I compare the impressions of Moscow Prior owners with my own. The cars have the same 98-horsepower engines, so there are no fundamental differences in movement. The suspensions regularly absorb large bumps, but shake on small bumps. However, the gray car is more interesting at the level of nuances: it is more composed in corners, a little more stable on the way out, and absorbs road bumps more smoothly.
In terms of acceleration dynamics, the new and old “Priors” are practically no different from each other, while a noticeable monotonous rumble fills the interior. I remember that during our first meeting with the car they told us about improving the sound insulation. We measured the noise level in the cabin (both Prioras were shod with the standard Kama-Euro) and were surprised: the new car turned out to be not as quiet as the previous version! The reason was found in the trunk: it turned out that the carpet in the pre-restyling car was thicker.
The steering is equally uninformative, and the updated car has a sharper steering wheel only in the Lux. We are waiting for him in other modifications.
“The transmission works fine, except for first gear. I switch to lower with effort. This happened to me on all Zhiguli cars, from the “six” to the “ten,” - I continue to study the forum of Prior owners.
The white Priora has a similar behavior, but here the fifth gear is difficult to engage. I push the lever by force, and it doesn’t work the first time. In a restyled car, it is more convenient to operate the lever. New cable driven unit? Unfortunately, no: both have well-known boxes with the VAZ-2112 index, which my colleague was not enthusiastic about when he tried out the new Priora in Tolyatti. Therefore, they decided: these are the features of specific machines. I would like to believe that the better performance of the transmission is evidence of improved build quality. By the way, when the engines are idling, the gearbox levers of our pair vibrate equally strongly.
The brakes lack information content and tenacity of reactions. The mechanisms seem to be lubricated with soap: I press the pedal - and every time I am dissatisfied with the rate of deceleration. I want to push the pedal harder, but the travel is not unlimited.
I remember the “Chinese” - “Lifan-Solano” and “FAW-Oley”, which I had a chance to ride on earlier. I liked the braking performance of these budget sedans much more. I wish the replacement of the Priora that her main automotive system becomes clearer and more reliable.
Well, although our pair is not in the richest configurations, there are more than enough differences between them. But there is also a “Lux”, in which you will find a multimedia system, side airbags and a more powerful 106-horsepower engine. But even without that, the old Priora still pales in comparison to the new one. However, only a new model can correct the global shortcomings of the Priora. Completely new in design.
White “Priora” from AvtoVAZ is a sales leader in the domestic market
Lada Priora is one of the most popular Russian-made models, produced between 2007 and 2015. Since the beginning of 2009, this car has completely replaced the Lada 110 from production. The white Priora, a photo of which can be seen in the article, has become the most popular and best-selling model in the recent history of AvtoVAZ. Thanks to this color scheme, it became possible to make the car a sales leader. Oddly enough, it was the white palette that customers liked most of all. There was noticeable competition only with specimens made in black.
Do-it-yourself headlight conversion
Some drivers, based on their experience, consider it right to make certain upgrades even after installing new components. Modifying headlights yourself is quite a tricky business, but with the right approach you can always achieve results. In terms of tuning, the platform from Kirzhach is more universal and allows you to successfully and confidently expand the working space for the light beam and carry out other manipulations. If you had the headlights installed at a service center, but decided to finish something yourself, then you need to remove them first. It's quite simple:
- First we disconnect the glass, this must be done carefully so as not to damage it. It is mounted on a sealant and it will be difficult to remove it, but no force should be applied.
- We remove the reflector cover; to do this you will need to remove several mounting bolts.
- We inspect the modules and select the one we need for modification.
It is necessary to secure the lens itself carefully so that it is not even noticeable that any changes have been made. However, if the lens drifts significantly, it may happen that it will overheat, so it is advisable to make all upgrades in the range of no more than 10 mm, and based on this, choose the width of the light beam.
We inspect the body - the main places of damage
Thresholds and the bottom are the main places where minor damage accumulates on cars that are older than 3 years. During the warranty period, the body jambs do not show themselves, but then the Priora begins to rust properly. This leads to the fact that owners are forced to go to a service station, treat the car, apply new layers of paint, which do not last as well. So before paying for your future car, inspect the following details of its condition:
- paint on the thresholds - it is best to check it with a thickness gauge to ensure the factory condition of these components; you can check the entire car body with the device;
- condition of the bottom - it is worth performing a detailed inspection of this unit to make sure there is no through corrosion or serious beginnings of rot, as well as the presence of anti-corrosion;
- spars - this is one of the VAZ models that has problems with these parts, it is better to carefully inspect the unit and make sure there is no serious damage from rust;
- factory sealant - in the places where the hinges are attached to the body, as well as between some metal elements, the factory spills sealant, it is applied neatly and without uneven lines;
- glass numbers - replacing the windshield does not mean that the car was in an accident, these glasses are simply of very poor quality, but side or rear windows cannot be replaced without an accident.
All this allows you to determine in a few minutes how much service potential the car has. Knowledgeable mechanics at service stations say that you can repair a car and invest money in it only if the body is intact. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. Therefore, checking body parts is one of the most important circumstances before purchasing your car.
Pay special attention to this stage
Repair and maintenance of VAZ 2170 “Lada Priora” (from 2007)
Lada Priora is one of the most comfortable Russian cars. One of the main reasons for the popularity of this car is its original interior and a wide range of additional equipment, which provide a modern level of comfort and safety.
The Italian studio 'Corcerano' was hired to develop the interior of the Lada Priora. The interior design is made in a modern style, the level of ergonomics also meets international standards. Modern materials were used in interior decoration. There are several color options for interior elements.
The new model is equipped with an original instrument panel. Attractive design, high-quality fit of parts, conveniently located controls, and a well-readable instrument cluster - these are the features of the Lada Priora instrument panel. One of the successful components here is the original lighting control module. It is located to the left of the steering wheel and combines switches for side lights, low beam and fog lights, as well as rollers for controlling the electric headlight leveler and adjusting the brightness of the instrument lighting.
Two-color Lada Priora door upholstery with pockets for small items and fabric inserts harmoniously fit into the overall style of the interior. On the driver's door armrest there are power window control buttons, a joystick for electrically adjusting exterior mirrors, and central locking buttons.
How to enable self-diagnosis of the instrument panel
Using the panel you can “dig into the brains” of the Priora:
- Hold the button under the fuel gauge and turn on the ignition. The display should indicate the start of the test.
- Press the button again. The display should show the operating system version.
- Click again. The system should show error codes:
- (2) – High voltage level;
- (3) – DT malfunction;
- (4) – DTOZH malfunction;
- (5) – DTV malfunction;
- (6) – Motor overheating;
- (7) – Low oil level;
- (8) – Malfunction of the brake system;
- (9) – Battery discharge;
- E – Brain error, EEPROM.
- If necessary, reset the error: hold the button for three seconds.
- Release the button. Click again. All indicators should light up.
- Leave all the buttons. After 30 seconds, the self-test will automatically complete.
Suspension
The suspension of this car has good characteristics, but this is if you drive on normal roads, and on all sorts of potholes and speed bumps the suspension becomes very stiff. The fact is that the front pillars, they just stand there and that’s it. First, you drive onto an artificial bump and feel the impact of the struts on the body, and after you move off it, the struts go back and on more expensive cars they are slowed down by gas pressure, but on this one it just bounces back and that’s it.
The chassis of the Lada Priora is no different from the chassis of the VAZ 2108, absolutely everything is the same. The problem with the chassis is that during a sharp turn, the car wheel does not stand straight, but wobbles.
Engine
They put a lot of effort into the Super-Auto engine; it received the code VAZ-21128. The Premier was given a sixteen-valve engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters and a power of 98 hp. In real tests, the engine produced 2-4 horsepower more. In the combined cycle it consumes 7.2 liters per 100 km. The volume of the gas tank is 43 l, the octane number of gasoline is 95.
Siemens injectors and a throttle pipe with a wide bore were installed on the car - this gave greater stability to the engine. This “device” accelerates to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds, and the declared maximum speed is 195 km/h. Produces 162 Nm at 3200 rpm.
