In all other cases, it is quite possible that you will have to involve professionals in the repair work.
Ways to open the hood
In different situations, different methods are used to cope with the described malfunction. Among the most common cases are the following:
- cable breakage directly next to the remote lock opening drive lever. In that case, it will be enough to grab its end sticking out in the cabin using ordinary pliers and pull it hard. In this case, it is necessary to pull on the cable itself, and not on its braid.
- a cable breaks in the cabin when it is impossible to grab it with pliers. In this case, you will need bent wire. With its help, you can open the hood, for example, in order to change the oil, even when pliers do not help. To do this, you will need to bend a hook out of wire, insert it into the gap in the air duct or between the body and the hood, hook it onto the damaged cable and pull it until the hood lock opens.
- The cable breaks far from the lock drive lever. In this case, you can try to perform the operation through the air duct. Here you will also need a hook bent from hard wire. It is inserted into the left air duct and a cable is hooked with it.
- cable breakage directly in the area where the lock mechanism is installed. Typically, such a lock is installed in front of the hood, and therefore it is useless to pull on it. As a result, the engine compartment lock can only be opened from below, by driving the car into a pit. To do this, you need to pay attention to the crankcase protection by removing it. For this purpose, unscrew its fastenings and pull down the engine boot. Next, insert a long screwdriver into the hole next to the radiator and try to open the lock with it. If it is mounted next to the windshield, try using a loop bent from wire to hook the lock mechanism at the place where the cable is attached and pull it.
VAZ 2107 models
In the case when the engine compartment does not open on a VAZ 2022 car, this circumstance should not be a reason for panic. The fact is that the hood itself, the air intake cover and the place where the cable exits into the cabin are placed in an accessible manner. This circumstance allows you to open the hood of the VAZ 2107 yourself using one of the methods described above.
Difficulties can only arise if, for example, the air intakes here are equipped with decorative trims. In this case, you will have to first remove them and then try to open the hood. It is worth noting that due to the design features of the hinges, the hood of the VAZ 2107, even in good condition, opens poorly and therefore it is worth first making physical efforts, and then starting to open it.
VAZ 2109 models
It will be more difficult to open the hood of the VAZ 21099, since to do this you will have to crawl under the car. In addition, you will need to remove the crankcase protection, as well as the tin boot of the engine. This is done so that you can stick your hand to the radiator. After this, we feel for the torn cable and the ring to which it is attached. We press the lock and ask the assistant, who is on top, to press the hood from above, as well as in the direction of the driver’s seat. You can also hook the lock with a wire hook, but not everyone can do this.
If the cable breaks in the engine compartment, you cannot do without an inspection hole
So, in order to answer how you can open the hood of a VAZ-2115 car with such a problem, let’s first take a closer look at this emergency situation.
So, the driver, who for some reason intends to gain access to the engine, habitually pulls the corresponding handle in the cabin. However, instead of a certain resistance and the characteristic sound of the lock opening, he is surprised to notice that there is none of this. The handle has free movement, and the lock does not respond to all manipulations with the usual opening. Solving this problem is actually not very difficult. If the break occurred directly inside the car, then in order to open the hood of the VAZ-2115, it will generally take literally a minute. We can consider ourselves lucky. The thing is that in order to open the hood, you just need to find the end of the broken cable and use pliers to pull it in the direction “towards you”. Half the battle is done - you will hear a characteristic sound, signaling that the lock has opened. This means you can move on to the next stage of troubleshooting. Open the hood and remove the end of the broken cable from the lock spring. After this, it remains to perform a few simple manipulations:
- remove the loop located near the handle;
- loosen the fastenings located in the engine compartment;
- remove the broken cable.
As you can see, there really is nothing complicated. A more complicated option is a cable break somewhere in the engine compartment. In this case, you are again faced with searching for an answer to the question: how can you open the hood of a VAZ-2115? If you want to fix a malfunction without damaging the car, then in this case you cannot do without an inspection hole. All necessary manipulations to fix the problem must be done from below the car. So, let's look at the sequence of actions.
First of all, as mentioned above, you should go to the inspection hole. Next, we proceed to remove the protection.
One point should be noted here. If it is standard on your car, then to remove it you will need to unscrew several screws using an 8 key. Take a close look at their location:
- 4 self-tapping screws are on the front;
- 2 more - in the middle of the most standard defense;
- the last 2 are in the spar area.
If there is enhanced shock-resistant protection, then the algorithm of actions will be slightly different. It is held in place by two crab bolts that press the fastenings of the part itself. Accordingly, they need to be unscrewed.

In particular, you should stick your hand up, placing it between the engine and the radiator. After this, reaching up to the level of the lock, feel its spring and slide it towards the battery. That's all - you can open the hood and remove the remains of the broken cable. Before this, of course, do not forget to install the protection in its original place.
However, there is another, more radical option. However, it should be used only in cases where there is no way to perform the manipulations described above, and you need to get to the engine compartment very urgently. In order to open the hood if the cable breaks, you can simply break the radiator grille using an appropriate object, for example, a hammer. It is made of plastic, so there should not be any problems here. After this, you will be able to get to the lock and move its spring to the side, thereby releasing the hood.
Installing the cable
If the cable breaks, it will have to be replaced after opening the hood. For this:
- in an auto parts store they select a new spare part, and from the available products it is worth choosing multi-strand cables as the most durable.
- a hook is made from wire. The hook must be inserted into the hole under the hood release handle. They will need to hook a strong cord and pull it inside the cabin.
- A new cable is tied to the cord and pulled into the cabin.
- Next, the new spare part is connected to the hood opening handle and the mechanism for opening its lock.
- The entire system assembly is checked for functionality.
Replacement procedure
So, it was possible to open the hood on a VAZ 2114 or VAZ 2115. Now you can do the actual repairs:
- First, go to the store and pick up the product you need to replace. Multi-core cables are more expensive than their single-core counterparts, but they are also more durable - it is recommended to take this point into account when choosing.
- Find the end of the torn product, which belongs to the interior part, and tie a cord to it. Remove the handle and pull the resulting system towards you - the cords will be pulled into the interior.
- Repeat the procedure in reverse order - tie a new cable to the cord from the interior and pull it into the engine compartment of the vehicle.
- Now you can connect the new product with the handle and the locking mechanism.

The design of VAZ cars has some outdated elements that have not been used on modern car models for a long time. These include the hood release cable. And so, the situation: the cable is broken, how to open the hood?
To do this, first of all you need to remove the protection. If your car has a massive crash guard, the front two “lugs” (or mounts) will be tightened by the two front crab bolts. (photo below).
If a standard protection is installed on the machine, then it needs to be removed by unscrewing several screws with an 8 key. As shown in the image below, there are four self-tapping screws from the front of the “TV”, two self-tapping screws in the middle of the protection itself (it consists of two parts), as well as several self-tapping screws securing the protection to the side members.
After that, you need to reach with your hand to the top panel of the “TV” and pull the cable fastening eye to the left (where, in fact, the cable pulls). N

If you pull the cable and the hood still does not open, then you need to simultaneously pull the tab to the left and prop the hood up with your fist. You can do it with one hand. It's even easier if one person handles the lock while the other pulls the hood up.
If you are going to change the cable, then after you remove the old one and take the new one out of the car, you will first need to pull the cable to the front eye and insert it into place.
After this, install the neck of the cable into the second eye, pulling it in the opposite direction (see photo below).
