In this article we will talk about why the exclamation mark is lit on the instrument panel of the VAZ 2115, and we will also offer solutions to this problem. What does the red exclamation mark at the bottom of the dashboard indicate? First of all, it indicates that the brake fluid level is below the permissible level. Driving a car with a faulty brake control system can result in tragedy, as every driver knows. Of course, experienced car owners know how to brake using the clutch pedal, but this is far from the most successful solution. Monitoring the condition of the brakes is a task of paramount importance. What to do if the red icon lights up? What problems arose in the car and how to fix them?
The level of brake fluid in the expansion tank has decreased
The most common reason why a red icon (!) lights up on the dashboard of a VAZ 2115 is a decrease in the brake fluid level. The expansion tank containing the fuel fluid is located under the hood on the side of the driver's seat. There are marks on it that you need to navigate when filling the brake fluid. The optimal volume of fuel fluid is between the MIN and MAX indicators.
It is important to remember: when the red light is on, you should not continue driving! It should be taken into account that brake fluid marked DOT-4 is suitable for the VAZ 2115. As a rule, mixing different brands of fuel oil leads to the fact that the substances contained in them (for example, additives) react with each other. As a result, the liquid may lose some of its inherent properties. For proper vehicle operation, it is best to use brake fluid of the same brand and type.

DTUZh is out of order
The appearance of a red icon (!) can also be caused by a breakdown of the brake fluid level sensor (FLS). If the fuel fluid level in the tank is normal and no signs of leakage are found, this is the element that needs to be checked. It is located in the brake master cylinder (MBC) reservoir. How to check the DTS? Here are simple instructions:
- Turn on the ignition and the red exclamation mark should be lit.
- De-energize the sensor - disconnect the connector from it.
- If the light goes out, there is most likely a problem with the sensor. It is also necessary to check the float: perhaps it spontaneously sinks to the bottom, even when the fluid level is normal.
Another way to check the operation of the sensor is to press the rubber seal on the cover so that the float moves down. If the DTS is working properly, the icon (!) will light up. If the light does not light up, this is a sign of sensor failure. Since this element cannot be repaired, it must be replaced with a new one. DTUZh costs approximately 150-250 rubles.
If the check shows that the sensor itself is working, the next diagnostic step is to check the electrical wiring. The sequence of actions is as follows:
- Disconnect the DTS from the power supply.
- Use copper wire to close the power contacts, but not in the sensor itself, but on the wiring.
- If the light comes on then there is a problem with the wiring. To fix it, you may need the help of an experienced auto electrician. Or you can use a multimeter to test the wires yourself and find the breakdown.

Brake pads worn out
The brake fluid level sensor and its wires are working properly, and the red icon (!) continues to glow. What is the problem? It's probably all about the brake pads. Unfortunately, the VAZ 2115 does not have a pad sensor, so their condition can only be checked by inspection. What will the car owner see? When the brake pads wear, the pistons in the brake cylinders move forward and hydraulic fluid fills the empty space. The brake piston pitch increases significantly, which causes a red icon to appear on the dashboard. If there is a fault, the brake pads need to be replaced. On average, their service life (provided that the car is operated carefully) is designed for 50-60 thousand km (for rear pads) and 15-20 thousand km (for front pads). Those who enjoy hard driving have much less time for their proper operation.
ABS light bulb: what is it and what is it for?
This system serves to brake the vehicle without completely locking the wheels. The car stops quickly; when braking sharply at speed, there is no loss of control, which allows you to avoid skidding to the side and the car flying into a ditch.
When this system fails, sharp braking blocks the wheels, while skidding to the side due to inertia is inevitable, the car can fly into a ditch and even roll over.
When your ABS error light comes on, this means there is a malfunction in the anti-lock system. It’s easy to check its functionality:
- Accelerate the car to a speed of 40 km/h and sharply press the brake pedal to the floor;
- When the pedal under your foot does not vibrate, this means that the ABS system has failed;
This system allows you to slow down at full speed and, having gone around an obstacle, continue moving. When ABS does not work, it is impossible to go around an obstacle; the risk of the car skidding and leaving the road surface is too great. The system consists of the following parts:
- Wheel sensors (one sensor on each wheel);
- Control unit with hydraulics;
- Hydraulic operation control mechanism;
- ABS indicator lamp on the driver's panel;
Why does the exclamation mark blink?
As you can see from the information above, seeing a red exclamation mark on your dashboard can be a sign of several problems. But first of all, he reminds you of the need to check the fuel fluid level. There is another reason that is not related to any breakdown. The (!) icon may light up when the car is going uphill. The reservoir with brake fluid is in an inclined position, due to which the fluid level approaches the MIN indicator. This is where the red icon appears. When the car drives onto a flat surface, the light immediately goes out.
Why does the ABS light keep blinking and turn on randomly?
If the ABS indicator flashes continuously or lights up, this indicates a disruption in the transmission of system signals. This is a sign of serious problems, so most drivers try to disable the ABS system to avoid problems. If the car starts to slow down on its own at a speed of about 90 km/h, this is not only a loss of controllability, but also a breakdown of the chassis.
Actions in this case:
- Disable the ABS by removing the fuses from the block;
- Find the fault and fix it yourself, if possible;
- Contact a service station for diagnostics and repairs;
- If it is impossible to turn off the ABS, stop the car and call a tow truck;
Standard on-board computer Lada Granta
1. displays the current time or (in an optional version) the gear shift prompt indication mode, as well as the automatic transmission operation indication mode
2. displays optionally total or daily mileage
3. displays outside temperature or (optional) on-board computer functions
4. displays fuel level
Tidy reset
To perform the procedure, you should scroll the shield regulator until the dial is reset to zero. If you need to perform a full reset of the panel, you need to disconnect power from the battery for 15 minutes and reconnect the wires.
The Grants panel is quite advanced and easy to understand for the driver. The indicators are intuitive, making it easier for novice drivers to learn.

Purpose of VAZ 2114 devices and interpretation of the symbols on them
Located on the left side of the dashboard, directly in front of the driver's seat, the VAZ 2114 instrument cluster plays an important role in driving. It contains pointer instruments, VAZ 2114 indicators with electronic digital windows and signal lights for various purposes.
- An induction speedometer, which receives speed readings from a sensor located directly in the gearbox, shows the actual speed of the car from zero to two hundred kilometers per hour. The division price is 10 km/h. It must be borne in mind that such devices have a permissible error of at least 5 km/h. In the lower, central part of the device there is a window with an electronic display, in which two lines reflect the total mileage for the entire period of operation of the car and the current mileage.
- To the left of the speedometer is the tachometer. This is an electronic device that, receiving a signal from the on-board computer, shows the current crankshaft speed at that particular moment. The scale has divisions of 5 units, digitization is done after 10 units, the maximum value is 80. When multiplied by 100, the real number of revolutions is obtained, for example, 30 multiplied by 100, the result is 3000 rpm. The range of 55 - 60 is shaded in red - this signals that the critical speed is approaching. The critical range 60 - 80 is shaded in red. If the speed increases to these values, the engine may fail. In the lower middle part of the device, an electronic display displays the time and real ambient temperature.
- To the left of the tachometer there is a dial gauge for the coolant temperature. It receives a signal about the actual condition from the coolant temperature sensor, which is located between the cylinder head and the thermostat. The division value is 20 degrees. Digitization of the device begins at 50, after two divisions it is 90 and the divisions end at 130 degrees. The red, danger zone starts at 105 degrees. If the arrow falls into this zone, then the engine must be turned off immediately, no matter what mode it is operating in. Due to overheating of the engine, failure of the main blocks of the power unit is possible. At the top, near the number 130, there is a graphic temperature icon. To the right of the speedometer is a device indicating the presence and level of fuel in the car’s fuel tank.
