Review of the Lada Granta car (2018)
I was looking for a new or slightly used Vesta or Grant, but so that the car had ESP. Granta ESP comes in Comfort or Luxe+Prestige configuration. No one had any comfort in Saratov. I didn’t hope for Lux, I definitely didn’t have enough money. I also wanted a robot! Yes, I wanted a robot. It is updated with AMT 2.0 and they always wrote in the reviews that it works better on the Grant than on the Vesta, since the Grant is lighter. And you were right!
And then I come across a Grant from the trade-in in the Luxe+Prestige+AMT configuration. And the price is super, even cheaper than Comfort. Mileage 2300 km. Purchased in Tolyatti in December 2022, and it was February. Strange people bought the car and almost immediately took it to a Kia trail-in.
I previously had a lot of cars, I drove everything from Tavria to BMW X6. Great experience. Experience too. Due to financial difficulties, since 2013 I had to drive a 2004 VAZ-2107. But don’t get me wrong that after seven, any car is a plane. I try to be objective.
Now the sensations. I like the car. Car rides! The robot switches itself, nods or twists a little, but not annoyingly. That is, it’s not annoying at all. On the first day, it nodded slightly when switching from 2nd to 3rd gear, and if the slipper is on the floor, it easily turns up to 5000 rpm. The next day I tried to get nods from 2 to 3 myself - it didn’t work. Now the nods are even nice - I know I’ve switched gears. In a calm rhythm, it switches generally quietly.
Having read various reviews, I want to respond to the authors. The car is very different from the pre-restyling one. The ride is very comfortable over bumps and goes great in icy ditches – you literally don’t notice. I was never able to break through the suspension (though I didn’t even try). Someone wrote that there are no seals at the bottom of the doors; my configuration includes almost everything, including seals. Heated windshield is a thing! Parking sensors help a lot, since the stern is not visible. The noise level is high, no worse than in the Lacetti (I had it before). I drove about 400 kilometers, and the total mileage is about 3000. Nothing rattles or holds anything together. There's still a bit of a new smell in the cabin. Native music plays tolerably (well, tolerably), it connects well with the phone, you can hear me well during a call. I will describe the shortcomings (they exist) in the paragraph on shortcomings.
Now about ESP. That's great. Rowing on ice like that is awesome! From the previous owners I got Viatti winter tires on stamps 14. (Summer tires on Pirelli casting 15). In the yard, everyone grinds and gets stuck in one place, but I get out without any problems with traction control. Never had any problems! Hill start assist is a cool thing!
So my review is that it is a good comfortable car. This configuration is more comfortable. I like the seats. someone wrote that they were uncomfortable (they are new here), I can’t agree - they are comfortable, right in the shape of my back, they hold well (though the lateral support is not ice). A bit more. It goes well on the highway, although you need to steer slightly - it doesn’t bother you.
For its price there are a lot of advantages. But for its price (new) you can buy Vesta, but the truth is that the configuration is simpler.
Beautiful in appearance IMHO. Before the updated class! The trunk lid has also become better, now there is a number there and it doesn’t look so empty.
So far nothing is rattling.
Climate control perfectly maintains the temperature.
The robot works well.
Thresholds do not get dirty with dirt!
The trunk is gigantic. It opens with the key and the electronic button above the license plate. I installed the springs and now it rises on its own – it’s convenient.
What's missing in the top trim level is a touch screen with navigation. They stopped installing them altogether; the salon said it was because there was little demand. And they stopped setting cruise control, it’s a pity. Although it is described in the book!
Initially the SPORT button did not work. Changing the response of the box. Service with big eyes that they have not seen such a car in such a configuration and do not know what kind of button it is. But we ordered it - I’m waiting. It's been more than 2 weeks now. (A spoon of tar)
The rain sensor doesn't always work predictably; it doesn't swipe away when there's a lot of rain, or it swipes over clean glass many times. The light sensor turned on the headlights once in the sun and I didn’t understand why it didn’t turn off, I wiped the sensor - it didn’t help. And he shined the phone point-blank - he didn’t turn off the headlights himself. But then it just went away. I don't know what happened.
I advise you to buy. This set is so rare. You can take Vesta, but in a poor configuration (for the same money)
Another review about the model:
How did I come to buy a Lada Granta? I was looking for a car that was a) new, b) inexpensive (up to one million rubles), c) interesting in appearance. Now, of course, many people said that for a million you can get a used BMW, Audi and much more, but I wanted a new car. In that. read more →
What Lada Granta Cross does not have
The Cross version does not have an engine (1.6 liter 16 cl. 98 hp) and a Jatco automatic transmission.
The reason is that such a power unit has a large oil sump, which reduces ground clearance, which is unacceptable for this modification of the Grant. There is no Luxe Prestige package, therefore the following options are not available:
This was done to provide more attractive prices. Marketers claim that there are not many requests from buyers for the stabilization system.
What distinctive features of the Lada Granta Cross do you know?

Selecting the optimal Lada Granta Cross station wagon
Cross with eight-valve 1.6 (87 hp) and manual transmission in the basic Classic configuration costs 559,900 rubles. The surcharge for a 16-valve valve of the same volume is 15,000, for a “robot” – another 25 thousand. Red Aurum, like other metallics, will cost 6,000 rubles.
Having merged two models into a common family under the banner of restyling, AvtoVAZ got rid of the name Kalina. Now they are all Grants: hatchback, liftback, sedan and station wagon. The latter became the basis for the all-terrain version - Lada Granta Cross entered the market almost a year later than other modifications. For us, this is our first acquaintance with a representative of the updated line of the most affordable front-wheel drive vehicles from Tolyatti. To complete the picture, we took two cars: with a manual transmission and an AMT “robot”.
Before restyling, Kalina Cross existed in the VAZ range, and Granta is not very different from it. Thanks to this, she not only looked like the older Vesta, but also grew by 44 mm due to the front overhang extended by the bumper. The interior remained recognizably Kalinovsky, although the button illumination changed from green to white, and additional decor appeared around the central ventilation deflectors.
The ergonomic features are generally inherited. The steering column still does not have a reach adjustment. True, all Crosses are equipped with new front seats with height adjustment and poor lateral support. Alas, even in the lowest position you sit a little higher than you want. Visibility is excellent. But the build quality is traditionally inconsistent. In an attempt to close the window, you pull the window lifter button towards yourself and pull the entire block out of the armrest.
It is incorrect to compare head-on the same-named configurations of regular and elevated station wagons. For example, the top-end Luxe version of the Cross has parking sensors in the rear bumper and a light sensor. In the more democratic Comfort, the cross-country Granta is richer in climate control, which even in a single-zone version is more convenient than an air conditioner. You can roughly estimate that the surcharge for increased ground clearance by 18 mm, larger wheels and a practical body kit made of unpainted plastic is about thirty thousand rubles.
It’s a shame that for the Cross the stabilization system is not offered at all, while in any of the Grants it can be obtained by raising the level of equipment to the maximum Luxe Prestige. Cross is also deprived of a four-speed Jatco automatic transmission: all two-pedal cars are equipped with a modified AMT robot. We already met him at Vesta, but there he assists the 122-horsepower 1.8 engine. Granta has a different engine, and the displacement is two hundred cubic meters more modest.
On the outside, our two 16-valve station wagons produce 106 hp. absolutely the same. And in the cabin of a car with an AMT “robot”, the selector is only partially reminiscent of West’s. It has the same pad as in Vesta, but the lever itself and the podium are different. There is no parking position. The engine should be started in neutral, and can be turned off in gear. Then in the parking lot it is not necessary to secure the car with the handbrake.
The finished AMT gearbox works tolerably well. I liked her on Grant even more than on Vesta. When driving calmly, the “robosarai” is generally a good boy: it starts off confidently, quickly shifts up and is a little impudent, with a shift downwards. As the pace increases, pauses in switching increase, which are characteristic of all “robots” of this type, but this is not very annoying. With the creeping mode it became easier in traffic jams: release the brake - you roll. However, the clutch works with slippage, and Granta still protects it. After standing for a while, the clutch opens, and when gas is added, it closes with a slight delay.
Outside the asphalt, the “robot” does not cause much trouble. The clutch operates smoothly and it is convenient to control the traction. On developed terrain, there is a lack of an assistant when starting on a climb, which only regular Grants have. In order to move uphill without recoil, you have to assist the box with the parking brake lever. It is better not to allow one of the drive wheels to hang out, but to overcome the folds of the terrain while moving. Highly located bumpers do not give much reason to fear for their safety.
A station wagon with a manual drives about the same on rough roads. In theory, manual control allows you to manage traction more efficiently, but in practice, you can completely stall on a climb, which I was not able to do with the “robot”. And yet, it is the three-pedal Cross that leaves the most pleasant impression, allowing you to make full use of the engine’s capabilities.
In the city it’s easier to start on time and quickly integrate into the flow, and on the highway it’s easier to overtake. The cable mechanism is well tuned, the clarity of switching does not raise any questions. The accelerator drive is sensitive, the responsiveness is almost carburetor-like. I don’t see the point of paying even 25 thousand extra for a “robot”. According to statistics, Grants in general and Cross in particular are usually purchased with a manual transmission, and only every tenth buyer chooses two-pedal cars.
The ability of VAZ cars to drive differently, even if they belong to the same batch, has been repeatedly noted. Ours are managed the same way. The Kaluga electric power steering provides them with a light steering wheel with a clear zero position and a logical increase in reactive force. Both Ladas immediately respond to the steering wheel’s deflection with a roll, coming to the arc with a slight delay and turning slightly as it develops. Both begin to slide their front axles to the outside of the turn early due to the modest grip properties of the Pirelli Cinturato P1 tires.
But the two Grants slow down differently. The one with “mechanics” is disappointing with its weak brakes. The free play of the pedal is indecently large, the moment of operation is difficult to predict. The drive in a station wagon with a “robot” works much better. No differences were noticed in the suspension operation. Any of the Grants pleases with excellent smoothness and some kind of exorbitant energy intensity. At the same time, Granta Cross no longer suffers from the early response of shock absorbers on rebound, which is characteristic of the “cross” Kalina.
Apart from AvtoVAZ, no one else offers inexpensive “sheds”. The main competitor of the economic Grant is its own Largus, which was minimally updated in the summer. The most popular (41% of sales) is the Granta station wagon in the inexpensive Classic configuration for 505,500 rubles. The most popular Largus Classic is more expensive: 624–677 thousand. By the standards of the segment, the price difference is noticeable, but people are willing to pay extra for the more spacious Largus, which, based on the results of the first half of 2019, sells three and a half times better than the Granta.
Largus, like Granta, has a Cross version, and it accounts for as much as 38% of Largus sold. The upbeat Granta has not yet gained momentum, but the results of the first month suggest good potential. Moreover, the Grant Cross is taken at the top, albeit with “mechanics”. Well, we must not forget that crossovers accounted for 65% of sales of Kalina station wagons. Cross looks more elegant, and a couple of centimeters under the belly are not superfluous. So we can assume that subsequently at least half of all sold "sheds" of the Granta family will be cross-matched.

Advantages and disadvantages of the DSG 6 box
about the DSG are mostly positive. The main advantages of the gearbox are a reduction in acceleration time and significant fuel savings, which is important today. When using this gearbox, gear shifting occurs smoothly and imperceptibly, without the slightest jerk. Like the automatic, the DSG does not have a clutch pedal. The gearshift manipulator is also identical to the automatic transmission, but, if desired, you can always switch to manual control. Also, the use of a robotic automatic transmission reduces fuel consumption. According to motorists, the savings are about 20 percent compared to the same models, but with a traditional automatic transmission.
Volkswagen Scirocco R DSG 6
Thus, we can highlight the main advantages of the DSG box :
— high acceleration speed;
— smooth and invisible gear shifting for the driver and passenger;
— reliability and durability of the transmission.
Flaws
For all its advantages, this checkpoint has its disadvantages. First of all, this is an increase in the cost of a car equipped with this box. DSG clutch does not always keep up with the acceleration speed, which causes some delays when changing gears. As car owners note, DSG automatic transmission problems also arise with control units; they wear out very quickly and systematically require replacement or repair.
According to experts, with the growth of cars equipped with a DSG transmission, these shortcomings will be corrected over time. The cost of cars will decrease, and specialized car services will appear to service robotic transmissions . It is quite possible that in the near future, DSG and similar gearboxes will completely displace manual transmissions from the market.
Why is Lada Granta Cross the best version of the model? Three simple reasons!
Lada Granta is the most popular and most affordable new car in Russia. But, as they say, not all “Grants” are equally useful. Let's figure out why "Cross" is the best version of the model.
And the first argument in favor of “Cross” is already visible from the outside. Of course, with all-wheel drive the picture would be absolutely gorgeous, but even without it, an unpainted body kit all around and increased ground clearance would not be superfluous! After all, in winter in Russia there are often deep snowdrifts, and any puddle can hide a hole of very mysterious depth.
In addition, the Granta Cross looks nicer than a regular station wagon. True, many would prefer the liftback of all Granta bodies for a more practical trunk, but in the station wagon there is more space above the heads of the rear passengers.
The second argument is a different content of the packages. For example, in the “Cross” version, unlike any other modification, in the average Comfort configuration we get remote control of the central locking (and four door switches), an alarm system, height adjustment of the driver’s seat and front seat belts, climate control, 15 -inch alloy wheels. All this in any other “Grant” can only be obtained in the highest Luxe configuration. Meanwhile, the listed options are interesting to quite a large number of people, but not everyone wants to take the maximum version for them.
In general, in terms of equipment, the Granta Cross is more similar to the outgoing Kalina than to the current Grants. This is how it turns out to be exclusive.
Well, the third advantage is quite unexpected against the background of the features of cross-versions of other models of the brand - Vesta, Xray and Largus. They are characterized by a “dense” suspension compared to the “civilian versions”. And the “Granta Cross” surprised me even during the first acquaintance, when it became clear that compared to the usual “Granta” it not only did not become stiffer, but even increased the smoothness of the ride.
Most likely, this is due not only to the characteristics of the suspension, but also to the wheels. If other models, along with a body kit, acquired wheels with an increased rim diameter and a lower tire profile, then the Granta’s rims remained the same 15 inches in diameter, and the tire profile increased.
As a result, it turns out that “Granta Cross” is a rather isolated option in the “Granta” range, just like the “sports” version of Drive Active. But if the latter is a very specific product that not everyone needs, then Cross is quite capable of appealing to a much larger number of people.

Reviews from Lada Granta Cross owners
Compared to Kalina 2006 - progress. Compared to Renault Stepway 2012 - in some places it’s better, in others it’s not. Let's start with the suspension, the best and the best of many. Reno is also excellent, slightly soft. Tested on soil and trails.
Box, there is a double impression here. The noise is like the old Kalina 2006, but the set of gear ratios is normal. Excellent on the track. Switching back, eternal hemorrhoids. I pressed, waited, and if I was lucky, it would turn on without a crack. Renault wins in terms of silence, excellent in the city
Brakes, Renault wins here. Full control throughout the entire pedal stroke. Uniform braking. Cross is a complete ass. Half the pedal is empty, without braking. Then there is a sharp grasp and a peck. This could be customized. In winter, the ABS will constantly crack.
Electric booster. Pros: no compressor, no oil system, no maintenance required. Cons: unclear control.
The engine is good, but there is something unclear here. When purchasing the car, dealers said that it now runs on 92 gasoline. The new firmware seems to be installed, but there is no recommended fuel on the tank cap. All their test cars are 92, but the book shows 95 - who to believe?! I filled it with 92, the car runs smoothly, acceleration without failures. Consumption in the city is 8.5 liters on a non-run-in engine, which seems normal.
