At the beginning of September, AVTOVAZ summed up the results of the competition for the name of the new LADA model. Four options were chosen: ALTA, ONEGA, SLAVA and LIKA. Then a survey of car enthusiasts was conducted on the Internet in order to determine what body type the next AVTOVAZ model should have. It turned out that most of all Russians want to see the new LADA crossover. Independent designers presented what the future LADA module could be like.

In September 2022, the pokatim.ru portal presented what the mid-size LADA ALTA crossover could be like.
The SUV is presented with the “X-design” of the front end, characteristic of VAZ models. The exterior of the car follows the modern trend of “narrower headlights/larger foglights,” which can be seen in all recently released crossovers.
“Alta” in the eyes of Russians is a utilitarian “killer” of Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota RAV4, KIA Sorento, Hyundai Tucson and the like. Therefore, the prototype received an unpainted plastic body kit and a body that was large enough for the third row of seats.
The car can be built on the basis of another Renault Group car, for example, Koleos.
Competitors
The new Lada X KOD has plenty of potential competitors and they are all quite serious rivals. For example, Chevrolet Niva and Nissan Terrano. The main advantages of Chevrolet include:
- memorable, beautiful interior, with good layout and decoration;
- the driver's seat has decent ergonomics and a convenient location of control devices;
- high ground clearance, which is 180 mm. The test drive video shows that the Niva’s cross-country ability and off-road qualities are in perfect order. She is resilient, reliable and does not fail in difficult situations;
- Unlike the new Lada X KOD model shown in the photo, the Niva is equipped with engines that run not only on gasoline, but also on diesel;
- affordable car price for many buyers. Inexpensive maintenance and spare parts are also affordable.
The disadvantages of the Chevrolet Niva are:
- sluggish acceleration dynamics. The car accelerates to the first hundred in 15 seconds;
- high fuel consumption, which in mixed mode is almost 14.0 liters;
- only one transmission;
- mediocre visibility, which is hampered by too wide front and rear pillars;
- weak paint coating. Within a year, rust begins to appear, especially on the sills and rear arches.
A review of the second competitor, the Nissan Terrano, allows you to see a rather charismatic car, which is not without its own special personality. In the photo, its appearance looks as modern as that of the XCODE Lada. The main advantages of this crossover are:
- spacious, comfortable interior;
- good maneuverability, endurance;
- excellent dynamic qualities;
- simple, easy controls;
- fairly rare breakdowns;
- unpretentiousness in maintenance;
- like Lada X CODE affordable price.

In May 2022, renderings of a crossover resembling the Lada XRAY were published. The editors believe that such a car will be a step above the Lada XRAY model and will be similar in size to C-class SUVs such as the Nissan Qashqai. For comparison, the length of the XRAY is 4171 mm, and the length of the second generation Qashqai is 4379 mm.
When creating the rendering, the designer was guided by the appearance of the company’s current range, as well as the latest and most current concepts, including XCODE and 4x4 Vision, shown at the Moscow Motor Show in 2022.
In September 2022, the Kolesa.ru portal writes that there is still no information about the appearance of future new products, so they began to focus only on the style of current models and the latest concepts of the brand. They took as a basis the new Nissan X-Trail (more precisely, its American version called Rogue), which will be made on the same platform as the future Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan Qashqai.
The front part is made in the style of the 4x4 Vision concept, presented in August 2022 at the Moscow Motor Show. At the same time, the car received original front optics in two levels; LED running lights in them form the letter X, which is one of the main motifs of the current Lada design. The taillights also have X-shaped LED lights. Finally, the crossover received branded stampings on the side doors and wings.

The impressive instrument panel with a complex design immediately attracts attention. The center console is designed in a rather minimalist style. Nothing special, reminiscent of the Lada Kalina interior. Here the main element is a 10-inch touchscreen tablet, placed separately forward and mounted on an elegant stand. It has a large number of options, but the climate control system is located in a separate unit. Inside the Lada X Code is cozy and comfortable. The decoration is very reminiscent of the VAZ 2116 and Lada Vesta, X Rey. The front seats are well profiled. Unlike Kalina, they have good lateral support, and the seats are not so hard. Sound insulation in the cabin, although it has become a little better, is still far from ideal. Extraneous noise and engine sounds are still clearly audible. It is expected that Lada Connect multimedia will be finalized and installed.
The interior decoration commands respect. The quality of materials, accessories and decorative elements has increased noticeably. Now it is at the level of Renault or even Nissan. There is not a lot of free space, but there is also a lot. True, the back seat will still be cramped for three passengers.
The luggage compartment holds almost 350 liters. Folding the backrests of the second row will increase it to 550 liters.

In November 2022, Viktor Stepanov shared his vision of the future LADA crossover. According to the designer, Lada Onega will be a compact B-class crossover. The front end will receive a characteristic X-shaped figure. Along the side window line there will be a chrome strip that meets the roof line.

I have been the owner of Lada Kalina for more than three years. From the latest news I learned about the release date of a new concept car, which will be built exactly on the Kalina platform. If we talk about Kalina, I am completely satisfied with the car. The most important thing is that I’m not afraid if it suddenly breaks. There are no problems with spare parts, and their cost, as well as the repair itself, will be inexpensive. The car is good in all respects: durable, playful. Fuel consumption, of course, is high, but this is not critical. My swallow consumes about 10-11 liters around the city. I saw the new Lada X COD 2022 in the photo. I really liked the car. Perhaps, when it comes out, I’ll exchange my Kalina for it.

In October 2022, an independent designer showed what the first Lada crossover might look like. According to his idea, AVTOVAZ should abandon its signature design with X-shaped metal strips in favor of a more classic exterior design.

Little is known about the technical characteristics of the Lada X CODE 2022. However, we can safely assume that they will differ little from the Kalinovsky ones. This information was provided by the manufacturer himself. A 1.4-liter engine with 16 valves and a direct fuel injection system will be offered as the main power unit. What is special about it is the turbine, due to which it was possible to increase the power to 150 hp.
Lada Vesta Cross

Very soon, buyers will be able to appreciate the increased ground clearance of the Lada Vesta Cross sedan model. You definitely can’t call it a new model, but the company definitely cannot be denied an updated approach to promoting models.
From the technical side, everything will remain the same. The same engines (1.6- and 1.8-liter variations with 106 and 122 hp), the same gearboxes.
Externally, the Cross model will be distinguished by increased ground clearance, 17-inch wheels and a plastic body kit.

Second generation Lada Niva

The utilitarian SUV should be replaced by an ennobled crossover, based on a foreign platform and a transversely mounted engine. The basis will be taken (according to rumors) from the mass budget segment of the Global Access platform developed by Renault.
The chassis has already begun to be modified in order to increase cross-country ability and off-road capabilities. “Niva” should remain just such a car – not afraid of dirt. But at the same time, the SUV model will be much more convenient and prettier.
According to the latest media reports, the new Niva should not be similar to the Duster. Most likely, the signature X-shaped styling will be used, which will turn the utilitarian crossover of the 70s into a modern SUV.
