Considering the condition of most Russian roads, as well as their complete absence in some remote regions, it is not surprising that there is a demand for models with increased ground clearance. Car manufacturers quickly figured it out and began producing appropriate cars to meet customer demand. AvtoVAZ was not in last place in this regard, offering a familiar model with ground clearance like an SUV. We are talking about the Lada Vesta SV Cross 2022, which can be called a serious rival for the Kia Rio X, Renault Sandero Stepway, Renault Logan Stepway and Lada X-Ray. The car is sold in Russia in three trim levels at a price of 950,900 – 1,173,900 rubles, which is what the Comfort and Luxe versions + Prestige package cost, respectively.
Lada Vesta SV Cross 2022
Specifications
On the Russian market, the Lada Vesta SV Cross 2022 is presented in a new body in the first generation. This model is significantly different from standard Lada Vesta cars, which is why it deserves special attention. Not only the technical specifications differ, but also the configurations and prices. At the same time, the car retained its resemblance to its predecessor, which can be assessed from the photo attached to the article. In general, we are talking about a rather interesting option for purchase, which is in no way inferior to its “classmates” in terms of technology and equipment.
The manufacturer has equipped the popular Russian car with three different power units, which has a noticeable impact on the final cost of the model:
- 1.6-liter gasoline unit with 106 horsepower and 148 Nm of torque;
- 1.6-liter gasoline engine generating up to 113 forces and 152 Nm of torque;
- A 1.8-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with an output of 122 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque.
As expected, the model is presented only in front-wheel drive versions. The car has a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT in versions with a 113-horsepower engine. Vesta SW Cross has the following dimensions:
- length – 4,424 mm;
- width – 1,785 mm;
- height – 1,532 mm;
- wheelbase – 2,635 mm;
- ground clearance - 203 mm;
- curb weight – 1,280/1,300 kg.
The Russian model is distinguished by a spacious five-seater interior and a capacious trunk of 480 liters. The car's tank holds up to 55 liters of fuel, which ensures a solid power reserve. AI-92 gasoline will have to be used as the main combustible mixture. On average, about 7.5 liters of fuel will be consumed for every 100 kilometers traveled. Despite the increased ground clearance and impressive weight, the station wagon is distinguished by good dynamics with acceleration to hundreds in 12.2 - 12.6 seconds and a top speed of 170 - 178 km/h.
Advantages and disadvantages
Crossover ground clearance of 203 mm, good handling and cross-country ability, good dynamics, three-level trunk with a capacity of 480 liters, quite favorable consumption in the combined cycle - 7.3 liters. Beautiful design that makes the car stand out in the crowd. All these advantages are characteristic of the domestic model.
The disadvantages include an instrument panel with orange scales and the inability to drive off-road when the wheels are hung diagonally. A slightly whining transmission (“mechanical” and “robot”) spoils the mood, but this can be cured by changing the oil in the transmission. There are no such problems with the variator.
Options and prices
There are not many configurations of the Lada Vesta SV Cross 2022 available for sale on the domestic market. At the same time, some variations have already ceased to be produced, despite the relative youth of the model. Now buyers will have to choose from Comfort, Black and Luxe versions, while the latter is represented only by two extended options EnjoY Pro and the Prestige package. There are also extended versions of Comfort + Winter EnjoY Pro. The cost of a Russian car varies from 950,900 to 1,173,900 rubles.
Comfort
Comfort is the basic version of a station wagon with a price tag of 950,900 – 1,035,900 rubles. The car can be purchased with any engine depending on the driver’s preferences. In addition to the standard equipment, this option includes the following options for comfort :
- electric power steering;
- front fog lights;
- electric mirrors and heating;
- glazing with heat-protective film;
- multifunction steering wheel;
- electrically heated front seats;
- cooled glove box;
- power windows front and rear;
- Cruise control;
- rear parking sensors;
- air conditioner;
- sound system with 4 speakers;
- dividing armrest;
- combined seat upholstery;
- mirrors in sun visors.
Already in the “base”, this station wagon is shod with 17-inch alloy wheels. The model is equipped with a number of electronic assistants. If necessary, this equipment can be improved through “extras”, but in this situation an additional fee is already provided.
The Comfort + Winter EnjoY Pro version will cost the buyer 1,039,900 – 1,129,900 rubles. This model is available with three engines to choose from and is distinguished by the presence of an electrically heated steering wheel and windshield, as well as a number of additional options.
Black
For the Lada Vesta SW Cross 2022 in this configuration you will have to pay 1,005,900 and 1,095,900 rubles for versions with 1.6-liter engines with 106 and 113 horsepower, respectively. In equipping this car, the manufacturer included such additional options as: light sensor, rain sensor, electric heated steering wheel and windshield, climate control, audio system with USB and AUX support, spare full-size wheel, special decorative elements, and black roof color .
Luxe
Now the standard Luxe version is no longer on sale and buyers will have to choose a car in this version from the EnjoY Pro and Prestige packages. In this generation, the station wagon will cost 1,084,900 – 1,198,900 rubles. You can purchase such a model with either a 1.6-liter internal combustion engine producing 113 horsepower or a 1.8-liter unit producing 122 horsepower. In addition to the basic equipment, the car’s equipment includes such options as: electrically heated rear seats, side airbags, dynamic cornering lighting system, standard tinting.

Safety
When purchasing a car, buyers look not only at the price tag and equipment, but also at the safety of the vehicle. In this regard, the Russian station wagon is a strong middle peasant, which is equipped with 2–4 airbags, three-point belts, and some motion control systems, including ABS, ESP, EBD, BAS and TCS. The body of the model turned out to be strong, and can be guaranteed to protect the motorist and his companions in the event of an average accident. The station wagon was tested according to the ARCAP system, and to its credit, good results were demonstrated in this crash test, corresponding to a rating of 4 stars. The overall safety rating of the model is 14.9 out of 16 possible points. It is noteworthy that despite its weight, the station wagon is not inferior in this regard to the standard Lada Vesta Cross model.
Four-wheel drive
In August 2015, at the Moscow Off-Road Show, Oleg Grunenkov, who oversees the Vesta and Xray projects at AVTOVAZ, said that both families could receive an all-wheel drive system. Obviously, in the case of Vesta, this statement should have been considered in relation to the cross-station wagon Vesta Cross - especially in light of the fact that its concept was presented at that event. Later, in January 2016, Grunenkov noted that for the Xray hatchback, created on the Sandero Stepway platform, the company is considering two all-wheel drive options - based on Renault-Nissan solutions and based on its own developments. If one of the options is accepted, it can be transferred to the Vesta platform, however, there is no exact information about whether it will be possible to implement a 4x4 scheme for the Vesta Cross car. But in April 2016, confirmation appeared that work on the all-wheel drive version of Vesta Cross was underway.
Handling and off-road performance
Although the Lada Vesta SW Cross 2022 model has received the corresponding prefix, it is difficult to call it a car suitable for off-road use. Rather, we are talking about a vehicle oriented towards the city, rough terrain and dirt roads. Here the car feels confident and does not experience any difficulties in overcoming bumps and large holes. There is no point in driving this model off-road.
In the city and on other highways with hard surfaces, domestic cars behave quite confidently and are not inferior to their “classmates” in this regard. The only thing that is noticeably felt by the car enthusiast is the “sluggish” dynamics compared to some competitors.
Advantages and disadvantages
There is a huge number of vehicles on the Russian market, which is why sometimes it is not always easy for a buyer to choose a model to purchase. Therefore, to simplify the task, it is worth mentioning the main advantages of the car:
- reasonable price tag;
- budget service;
- quite attractive appearance;
- consumption of AI-92 gasoline;
- compliance with environmental standard Euro-5;
- good cross-country ability for a front-wheel drive car.
The Russian model also has plenty of disadvantages. Here, first of all, it is necessary to highlight the mediocre dynamics, not the most spacious interior, not the best build quality of the car and the supplied consumables or spare parts.
Design
For the average state employee, the Lada Vesta SV Cross car has a quite attractive appearance. The model is implemented in the traditional AvtoVAZ X-style, which attracts attention from the outside. In part, the design of the car can already be called outdated, but it still remains relevant, as it looks more attractive in comparison with some of its classmates.
The manufacturer tried to create a spectacular and bright interior design to attract more potential buyers. In fact, the domestic company succeeded, however, not all car enthusiasts appreciated the abundance of decorative inserts, given that the rest of the interior remained quite simple and mediocre with not the best quality of the materials used.
Concept
On August 26, 2015, the Vesta Cross Concept was officially presented at the Moscow Off-Road Show 2015. At the presentation, it became known that in the body design on the way of its “transformation” from a sedan to a station wagon, the designers had to make about 300 changes that affected the body itself, as well as the interior and technical part. In September 2015, the concept was shown at the Sochi Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, where Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the Vesta Cross Concept “a good car.”
Start of sales
Although the original Lada Vesta model came out quite a long time ago, its separate version with increased ground clearance Cross SW can still be called a rather young modification. For the first time such a vehicle was presented in 2022. The public reacted ambiguously to the station wagon, which is why sales of the cars began only a few months after the initial show.
Platform and body
The platform for Vesta Cross will be the “trolley” of the serial Vesta. The cross-version will have a station wagon body, increased ground clearance and an “off-road” body kit made of black plastic. Serial production of the Vesta sedan began on September 25, 2015 in Izhevsk, and the Vesta Cross should appear in the series at the end of September 2016. It is interesting that the regular, “non-cross” station wagon, originally planned for production just a year after the launch of the sedan, disappeared from reports about the Vesta family by the end of 2015, and by now Vesta Cross seems to be the main, if not the only, “universal” "Vesta variant. In April 2016, a Kolesa.ru source at AVTOVAZ reported that the company could indeed completely abandon the creation of a regular, non-crossover version of the Lada Vesta station wagon.
