Lada Vesta SW and SW Cross: full review of brake discs

The working brake system in a car is for the safety of the driver, passengers, and other road users. The basis of the design is:
  • brake discs;
  • pads;
  • cylinders.

During systematic use, parts wear out, linings wear out, and braking efficiency decreases. The process of preventing the brake circuit is simple, but requires attentiveness on the part of the technician.

Top 5. TRW GDB3332

Original products are used to complete the Lada Vesta on the automaker's assembly line.

The use of TRW GDB3332 linings for the Lada Vesta brake system allows car owners to achieve greater efficiency from its operation in urban driving conditions. The choice of the manufacturer also speaks in their favor - along with pads of other brands, TRW is included in the number of factory components. Frequent braking and heating do not affect the performance of the friction material. Replacing consumables on the front and rear calipers (the latter is possible in premium configurations with disc systems on the rear axle) in some cases causes conflicting reviews. This largely depends on the originality of the product, as well as the plant. Pads produced in China for the Asian market can squeak and reduce their performance when overheated.

Package

Genuine consumables are packaged in a red box with smooth and clear printing . The fake packaging has a different shade of red, it is brighter, and the inscriptions are spaced too closely.

The counterfeit weighs much less than the original, so copyists save on material.

Front brake discs

Tuning center Dop Shop brings to your attention ATC brake discs. These are Russian wheels that are produced in our country and are a worthy alternative to BREMBO wheels.

The ATS company has developed a special version of the ATS-SPORT, on the working surface of which holes and grooves are applied, providing additional cooling and serving as indicators of wear on the working surface of the brake disc.

For many years, owners of LADA cars have been using wheels from this manufacturer, and recently they appeared on Lada Vesta and Lada XRAY. There are also these for Lada Granta, Kalina, Niva, etc.

You can buy these discs in St. Petersburg without overpayments for delivery. Link to the product.

How to spot a fake

This brand has proven itself well. That is why situations often arise when counterfeits are made for it. But they can almost always be recognized. There are a number of signs by which you can easily identify them:

  • the packaging contains inscriptions only in Russian, as well as in English - the presence of prints with hieroglyphs indicates counterfeit;
  • transportation and sale - exclusively in high-quality cardboard with color printing (if the cardboard falls apart at the seams in your hands, then most likely it is a fake);
  • On the disk itself, its end is stamped with a special number and the name of the manufacturer.

For VAZ cars, the use of these discs is preferable. According to the company, analogues of parts with equally high quality are not produced in the Russian Federation.

Brake discs for VAZ (Lada) Vesta

for repair of VAZ (Lada) Vesta

I replaced the brake discs with ATE discs with HI-Q pads, the result: after 1000 km, as soon as it got below +5 they whistled (you could really start dancing).

The new Brembo Max wheels started squeaking after about 1000 km.

Stock brakes are crap from a Nissan Micra. The brake discs are 40,000 km old and are in the trash. 1mm wear on each side.

The front brake pads are 60% worn, and when replacing them I will also change the discs. The wheels could have been supplied better from the factory!

I took Zimmerman wheels 470241620, quite a good option.

I installed Galfer wheels and nibk pads. Everything is fine.

Replace discs and pads today. I came and talked and discussed everything for 20 minutes. I've already driven about 50 km, the brakes are good, but they haven't gotten used to it yet, you can feel it, well, nothing, judging by the silence in the cabin, everything will be fine.

I definitely recommend installation!

I changed the brake discs and pads in pairs. I drove 14 thousand kilometers on them. Changed it in the summer. What can I say, the brakes are clear, the car brakes well, there is no runout, during this time they have never squeaked, and there are no extraneous noises either.

How is it different from original parts?

The main and most important difference is the price. This is especially true for cars of premium brands. Sometimes the cost of brake discs from Alnas is 2 or even 3 times less. In turn, in terms of braking quality, the parts are in no way inferior to the originals - in most cases. It is only important to remember about a slightly smaller resource. But there are often cases when a brake disc from Alnas covered 50-60 thousand km.

It all depends on the driving and braking mode practiced by a particular driver. These wheels are perfect for leisurely driving outside the city, calm movement. At the same time, the discs perform well during sharp, emergency braking. But it should be noted that frequent braking from a speed of 140-160 km/h significantly reduces the service life.

Discs are also made of special grades of cast iron - which allow you to reduce the speed of the car as efficiently as possible. During operation there are no jerks or shocks during braking.

Front brake discs

Despite the fact that on the SV Cross version the wheels are installed with a larger diameter than on the sedan or SV, according to the catalogues, the wheels have the same number.

First, let's get acquainted with the parameters of the front brake discs; they are especially relevant when selecting analogues, since the specified compatibility is not always accurate; some discs may either not be suitable or need some modification. Therefore, it would be a good idea to compare the parameters in the catalog when ordering, or on the packaging when purchasing.

Original

The original spare part has article number 8450031577 . Users are accustomed to the fact that brake discs are usually sold in pairs, however, in this case, most often you can find them on sale individually. One original brake disc on the front axle will cost approximately 4 thousand rubles.

Analogs

Analogues are installed for three reasons: when it is not possible to purchase the original, when you want to save money, or if you want to purchase discs with greater efficiency and an increased resource. Among analogues, users note the following options; they are shown in the table.

Marking of alloy wheels: how to distinguish the original from the fake

Today, on the market of spare parts and additional equipment for cars, there are a huge number of counterfeit copies of well-known brands that exactly copy the original design, brand names and emblems of the original ones.

As a rule, such fakes are produced in China, their service life is short - within one season, the rim of the wheel rim becomes deformed, chips and cracks form on the surface, and the tires wear out quickly.

Visually distinguishing original Proma wheels from fakes can be difficult even for a specialist; to do this, you need to remember a few rules and be able to read the factory markings of an alloy wheel:

  • The first thing people pay attention to when choosing disks is the number of the original spare part, which must correspond to the catalog number in the manufacturer's catalog. This number is usually stamped on the outside of the spoke of the disc in the form of raised symbols, processed exactly like the entire surface. The catalog number carries information about the type of wheel rim, its size, the design of the fasteners and the material from which it is made.
    • Next, read the labeling, which must correspond to all the parameters stated for a specific sample in the official catalog. Any discrepancies or lack of infographics means the disc is fake.

    • 7.5 is the rim seat width in inches. For each wheel model in the manufacturer's catalog there are certain standard sizes that you need to focus on when choosing.
    • J×16 - information about the rim design and mounting diameter in inches.
    • H2 is the hump index of the disk.
    • ET45 - offset value in millimeters.
    • 5*114.2 - number of mounting holes, their mounting size.
    • SU4 JWL - technical standard marking in accordance with international requirements, determines the degree of permissible load, material of manufacture and purpose (passenger cars).
    • Other designations: product release date, country of origin, code, brand logo and quality certificate number.
    • When choosing, you should take into account all the technical characteristics and recommendations of the manufacturer for a particular car - in the Proma catalog list for each wheel model there are certain brands, generations and years of manufacture that should be followed.

Most owners of these cars note that it is best to use original discs, as they cause fewer problems and work efficiently.

Self-installation of rear disc brakes on Lada Vesta - parts and work

Lada Vesta is equipped with rear disc brakes from the factory, but they are not available for all trim levels. Therefore, some owners of the domestic model, who bought it in an inexpensive version, want to independently replace the rear drum brakes with disc ones.

    Components

In such a situation, there are 2 scenarios:

    1. Carry out modifications in accordance with the factory diagram;
    2. Purchase components from another manufacturer.

IMPORTANT! Unauthorized modifications to the design of the car's braking system, which includes the independent installation of rear disc brakes on the Lada Vesta, can be regarded as a violation of traffic rules.

And so, one of the owners of the Lada Vesta in the Exclusive configuration said that he was able to find out from an AvtoVAZ employee exactly what components were needed to replace drum brakes with disc brakes.

According to an employee of the plant, there is no need to replace the beam or reflash the ABS block, and this significantly speeds up and reduces the cost of the work.

In addition, the picture clearly shows that there is a standard spacer between the axle and the beam and it is to this spacer that the boot is fixed. From the factory, the hub and disc come separately, so after installing the rear disc brakes on the Lada Vesta yourself, there is no need to replace the bearings if you need to replace the disc.

All the components necessary to replace the brakes with your own hands are presented in the table along with the article numbers.

The estimated cost of the entire kit for self-installation of rear disc brakes on a Lada Vesta is about 30,000 rubles.

    Work progress

IMPORTANT! All work was performed by the Clubturbo studio, which has its own logbook on Drive - Lada Vesta Clubturbo . They made some components themselves.

First of all, the Vesta drum is removed, for which you need to unscrew the wheel nut, since the wheel bearing is pressed directly into the drum.

IMPORTANT! The brake disc may not come with an ABS bearing or ring, so you will likely have to purchase the bearing and ring separately. The ring from the drum will not work.

A faceplate is required to secure the caliper and ABS ring.

Clubturbo also encountered a couple more problems:

    1. The handbrake cable is not long enough;
    2. The bracket on the parking brake cable does not fit the caliper.

In this case, you can go in 2 ways - either install new cables, or install a caliper in front, and also rework the bracket on the caliper for the parking brake cable.

    Replacement procedure

Briefly described, the procedure for replacing the front disc is as follows:

The rear brake disc can be changed in almost the same way, however, you will need a special device to remove the disc from the hub. Its operating principle is simple - the center of the device rests on the axis, and the remaining one exerts pressure on the disk.

You should pay very close attention to the procedure for unscrewing the disk mounting bolt to the hub; it is better to use WD40 to ensure that nothing is damaged. After removal, a new disc is put on and assembly is carried out in the opposite sequence.

    Original or analogue?

This is what AvtoVAZ writes about the original LADA brake discs.

Original brake discs meet high LADA standards and guarantee quality, for this:

    • Each batch of brake discs undergoes random inspection and checks of the metal structure using special equipment, excluding porosity and other casting defects
    • The disc is made from high-quality cast iron, which guarantees no warping effect during sudden braking or overheating.
    • Brake discs undergo high-precision processing to ensure the absence of runout and imbalance
    • All original LADA spare parts undergo numerous tests confirming the reliability and quality of each part.

Which brake discs to choose for Lada Vesta

The automaker and dealers recommend changing brake discs at approximately 60,000-80,000 kilometers. Sometimes they can wear out sooner or a little later. It depends on the quality of the parts, the condition of the brake pads, driving style and some other factors.

Replacing the front discs is necessary when their thickness is 19.8 mm, which is critical. The rear ones, if they have a disc system, are replaced when worn down to 9 mm. But it is better to replace parts a little earlier, without reaching the limit values.

When choosing products, it is advisable to know their parameters. For front discs they are:

    Rear characteristics :

Before replacing, many motorists think about which brake discs to buy. At the same time, most dealers and AvtoVAZ itself advise installing original products. Experienced car owners often share the same opinion.

These parts were developed specifically for Lada cars and Russian conditions. They have gone through many tests. Products are made using modern equipment from cast iron of the highest quality.

Thanks to this, they should not become deformed after overheating or sudden braking. But in practice, sometimes you come across defective spare parts from Avtoreal LLC, which are also installed at the factory. Some car owners note their excessively rapid wear and the appearance of squeaking when braking.

The article number of the original front discs is 8450031577. They are usually sold one piece at a time. The cost of the kit is about 4500-5000 rubles.

The rear discs have article number 8450031131. The cost of a pair will be about 4,000 rubles.

By the way, the Vesta SV Cross or SV uses the same brake discs as the sedan.

As an alternative to factory products, many sports driving enthusiasts often purchase BREMBO brand products. The article number for the front discs is 09907875. The kit costs about 10,000 rubles. The parts are considered reliable, more durable than the originals and wear-resistant.

They can withstand extreme loads better. But this opinion is controversial, since spare parts with such characteristics are not needed for normal operation. And their durability is not so high for the money. In addition, there are many low-quality fakes on the market. Therefore, if you buy them, do so in trusted places and do not buy them at a suspiciously low price.

Renault front wheels with article number 7701207795 are perfect for Vesta. The set costs about 7,000 rubles. It is believed that they wear out somewhat slower than the original ones. In addition, the percentage of defects is not so high.

ATE front discs (article number - 24012202701) cost about 8,000 rubles as a set. They are of good quality, but in no way superior to the original ones. Therefore, it makes no sense to overpay for them. The same can be said about ATS-SPORT products.

Owners often buy Swag products (catalog number 60924165). You will have to pay about 4,000 rubles for the set. German spare parts are quite high quality. They do not creak, but can sometimes rust and cause beating. But perhaps their increased wear is associated with the driving style of individual motorists. Also, fakes are not excluded on the market.

Thrifty car enthusiasts choose NF spare parts with catalog number NF1699131. A set of disks will cost approximately 2,500 rubles. They attract attention because they are cheap. But the quality often leaves much to be desired. At the same time, some motorists claim that such products serve well.

    Workmanship

A special alloy is used to manufacture Alnas brake discs. Moreover, regardless of the diameter - 13, 14 or 15 inches. It is relatively soft, so the brakes always work perfectly. Regardless of road conditions. But it is important to remember that the disc gets very hot even when braking in normal mode.

It is important to try to avoid driving into puddles immediately after releasing the brakes. Since this can lead to cracks on the surface of the disc. The result is a breakdown and the need for replacement. There are several modifications of this part - and they differ not only depending on the make and model of the car. You can find the “sport” version on sale.

The surface of such discs is equipped with special grooves, as well as ventilation holes. They brake better due to the removal of water and gases through such furrows. Ventilation holes allow overheated material to cool faster. But it is important to remember that the operation of such disks is accompanied by a specific hum.

There is also a separate division of this company - ATC. The production of parts under this brand is located in China. Quality control is also high. In turn, buyers in the Russian Federation trust the Alnas brand somewhat more - and for good reason. Quality control at the production base in Almetyevka, where the Alnas plant is located, is high. Before sale, products must undergo several different tests.

The nature of the malfunctions can be noted:

    1. Uniform wear - it manifests itself in the fact that the friction layer is worn evenly, this shows that the brakes are working well.
    2. Severe wear of the friction layer, brake rivets are visible - this means that you have been using the “outdated” parts for too long. The rivets could damage the disc, so it would be a good idea to inspect it for damage.
    3. The friction layer is worn evenly around the entire circle, but one of the sides is worn out more than the other - one of the parts of the brake system (guide or piston) does not distribute the braking force correctly. Cleaning all “live” parts and applying a new layer of lubricant will help. Naturally, everything will have to change.
    4. Both components are worn unevenly, the surface is strewn with irregularities and roughness. The reason for this outcome is a malfunction of the caliper guide pins - they swing and do not give an even trajectory of movement. You will have to clean them, then reapply lubricant.
    5. The friction lining is cracked - in this case, the “trouble” is caused by the brake discs themselves - they wear unevenly. Everything will have to change.
    6. Uneven wear of the friction layer means that the parts were installed incorrectly. They will have to be changed.

After performing a visual inspection of the damage, you can independently make a verdict about the breakdown. And besides this, there are several other signs by which you can find out about a faulty front pad while sitting behind the wheel.

    Causes of Brake Wear

According to modern rules for monitoring the technical condition of vehicles, disc brake pads must be changed once every 10,000 kilometers. But this figure cannot be a single standard for everyone, since the wear of consumables greatly depends on driving style.

If you brake smoothly and not often (the mileage is mainly on the highway), then you can change the pads after 20,000 kilometers. On the contrary, if you brake frequently and sharply (aggressive driving style in the city), then the pads may wear off after 5,000 kilometers.

An important factor is the quality characteristics of the pads themselves. Some manufacturers openly save on raw materials. The same manufacturer may have several models of pads - more expensive and cheaper, softer and harder.

Everyone is different, so it is important to check your brake wear from time to time.
