Lada XRay Cross 2022 - a domestic cross-hatch with cross-country ability no worse than a crossover, and the price is comparable to a sedan

For the first time, the most modern domestic all-terrain cross-hatchback Lada XRay Cross was presented to car enthusiasts during the Moscow Motor Show in 2022. Its main differences from the standard XRay were its increased ground clearance, plastic body kit, more powerful front bumper and 17-inch wheels. In addition, the technical characteristics and equipment of the new model have changed somewhat. In the domestic market, the 2022 Lada X-Ray Cross is available in four basic trim levels and two additional trim levels, equipped with special option packages. All models are equipped with two types of available engines - naturally aspirated, 1.6 or 1.8 liter, paired with a manual transmission or CVT. Prices for the new product range from 792.9 thousand to 1,056,900 rubles. The main competitor to the cross-country version of the hatchback is the Renault Sandero Stepway and, to a lesser extent, the Renault Duster.

The 2022 Lada X-Ray Cross has a number of differences in technical characteristics compared to the standard XRay version. At the same time, having received a new body, the model increased significantly in price, which led to a difference of 300 thousand rubles between the most affordable and the richest trim levels. Classic

The most affordable modification of the new Lada XRay Cross is Classic, which costs 792.9 thousand rubles. The manufacturer included in the basic capabilities of this model:

The next level of equipment, the Comfort package, costs from 872.9 to 932.9 thousand rubles. It assumes the presence of:

• front foglights;
• electric side mirrors with heating system;
• armrest between the front seats;
• front seat heating systems;
• rear electric windows;
• rear parking assistant;
• luggage compartment box.

Luxe

Next on the list of available modifications is the Luxe package, costing 922.9-982.9 thousand rubles. The list of available equipment for this model will include:

• light and rain sensors;
• leather braiding on the steering wheel and gear selector knob;
• interior trim made of combined materials;
• orange dashboard;
• heated rear seats and steering wheel;
• electric heated windshield;
• Cruise control;
• air conditioning system.

Separately, the manufacturer offers the Luxe package, equipped with the Prestige premium package, the price of which ranges from 954.9 thousand to 1,014,900 rubles. The following will additionally be available here:

Finally, the most expensive trim level will be the Instinct. The price for this version of the 2022 Lada XRay Cross ranges from 996.9 thousand to 1.056 million rubles. It is characterized by the following additional features:

• automatic activation of the hazard warning lights in case of emergency braking;
• a multimedia system with built-in Yandex.Auto service, equipped with an 8-inch display and support for voice command control;
• roof painted black.

Xray Cross

Lada XRAY Cross differs from the standard version in its unusual front bumper and body kit made of unpainted plastic. At the same time, the ground clearance and wheel diameter were increased (from 15 to 17 inches), which will help when moving on difficult terrain.

The car is equipped with a 1.8 liter (122 hp) engine, the capabilities of which are complemented by a 5-speed manual transmission. There are three modifications on sale - classic, comfort and luxury.

For domestic motorists, the new 2022 Lada X-Ray Cross is available with two types of power units – a 1.6-liter engine with a power output of 113 “horses” or a 1.8-liter engine that develops power at 122 horsepower.

The first type of engine is a product developed by the French concern Renault-Nissan and works in conjunction with a continuously variable transmission. In this version, the car can accelerate to “hundreds” in 12.8 seconds, and gasoline costs will be 7.3 liters. The 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine from AvtoVAZ is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This technical design allows the new cross-hatch to accelerate to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The maximum speed for the model will be 180 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption for this configuration is 7.5 liters per “hundred”.

As the basis for the production of cars, the developer used the B0 platform, created as a result of joint work by Renault and AvtoVAZ specialists. Thanks to the use of this trolley, the cross-hatch received an independent multi-link with MacPherson struts at the front and a rear torsion bar. The braking system consists of front and rear brake discs.

Main dimensions and characteristics of the new Lada XRay Cross:

Handling and off-road performance

Not being a classic city SUV, the Lada XRay Cross turned out to be a fairly maneuverable cross-hatch, and the presence of serious ground clearance allows the owner of this model to overcome not only minor bumps on the road, but also serious obstacles without any problems.

Probably the main drawback of the model, due to which the car cannot be classified as a full-fledged SUV, is the lack of an all-wheel drive system. The presence of 17-inch wheels and high ground clearance give no reason to doubt that a cross-country domestic hatchback can solve many problems associated with poor-quality road surfaces and off-road conditions. And only the lack of an all-wheel drive system can lead to the fact that overcoming difficult conditions will be a serious obstacle for the driver.

Interior advantages

The plastic inside, in addition to the usual black color, received additional panels in the body color. The doors, dashboard and center console now feature a distinctly personal touch. This innovation has a positive effect on the impression of the salon.

Additionally, you can’t help but notice the 7” color display with TouchScreen. The picture resolution allows you to use all the capabilities of the built-in computer during the daytime without any problems.

Lada Xray Cross highlights several main advantages of the interior:

• seats with pronounced support from the sides and in other directions;
• indication of unfastened seat belts;
• container under the front passenger seat;
• three positions of the luggage rack at once;
• the seat next to the driver folds flush with the rear seats;
• three head restraints are installed for rear passengers;
• armrest with box.

AvtoVAZ has something to attract its potential buyers. Some technologies, like folding the front passenger seat, are generally considered revolutionary. They have never been used before, so they are truly offering something new to customers. Such steps are already encouraging and make us believe that real competition with foreign manufacturers is just around the corner.

Unfortunately, the rear seats do not create a flat floor (60/40). The only advantage can be considered the absence of steps.

Trunk capacity 361 liters. Considering the purpose of this vehicle, there is plenty of trunk space. We are talking about a ground clearance of 215 mm, so this is not a truck, but a hatchback capable of driving to all corners of our country on any terrain.

The maximum the trunk can offer when folding the front passenger seat is 1514 liters, and if it is not touched, we get 1207 liters

The spaciousness will please the passengers themselves. The rear seat can accommodate three adults, but for short trips. The driver is not constrained by anything, so tall people have enough headroom.

Maintenance costs

Like most Russian cars, the 2021 Lada XRay Cross is much cheaper to maintain than its foreign competitors. Carrying out maintenance is quite affordable for a car enthusiast with an average level of income. As for warranty service, the interval between each subsequent service is 15 thousand kilometers. The first few maintenance services will cost 5-7 thousand rubles and require a mandatory replacement of filters and oils.

Significant disadvantages in terms of the cost of servicing the French 1.6-liter engine include the rather serious level of high cost of some consumables. In particular, replacing spark plugs will cost 30 thousand rubles more than for an AvtoVAZ unit.

The cost of final maintenance for a Renault engine will be even higher. A banal service will cost the motorist about 50 thousand rubles, which is caused by the need to replace the drive belt. This component for domestic power units will have a much lower cost.

Dynamic qualities and fuel consumption

As for the power indicators and engine dynamics of an all-terrain cross-country hatch, they are quite sufficient for driving in urban conditions, where the driver needs to both accelerate the car in a timely manner and successfully maneuver. At the same time, the limit values ​​will allow you to maintain a fairly high speed even during long journeys between cities on the highway. Speaking directly about dynamics, we can recommend choosing a French engine, which has better acceleration dynamics.

Fuel consumption for this car is quite acceptable and is at the level of 7.3-7.5 liters per “hundred”, which is comparable to the level of gasoline consumption for similar models of competitors.

Design

The exterior design style of the new Lada XRay Cross is made in the classic AvtoVAZ traditions of modern models. The X-face of the front part and the side stampings on the wings and doors - all this is fully consistent with the corporate style of AvtoVAZ. The head optics and diffuser of the cross-hatch stand out effectively due to the installed chrome decorative inserts. The rear is equipped with a short glass on the tailgate and a metal trim at the bottom of the bumper. The outlines of the entire body are elegantly emphasized by a plastic body kit that runs along the entire lower part of the cross-hatch.

The interior decoration of the domestic all-terrain hatchback is made in a two-tone design, and in the most top modifications the interior will also receive decorative inserts. The front panel is equipped with a classic analog instrument panel, as well as a multimedia system with support for the Yandex.Auto service.

The interior seats are finished in fairly decent quality, and the lateral support is on par with the best foreign representatives of the SUV segment.

Rationality in everything

The cargo compartment is well thought out and convenient . In terms of dimensions, it may not be impressive - 361 liters, but it captivates with its correct shape and the simplicity and convenience of luggage placement. All trim levels have a panel with slots for better cargo securing, which forms a double trunk floor on the same level as the threshold and with an “underfloor” for small items.

When folding the rear sofa, the useful volume increases to 1207 liters, and if you also tilt the back of the front passenger seat, it increases to 1514 liters. Thanks to this, items up to 2.7 m long can be transported in the cabin.

The XRAY Cross suspension is characterized by a rather soft ride, which means noticeable roll and roll of the body during maneuvers, determined by good ground clearance and increased travel of springs and shock absorbers. All this is covered by the energy intensity and good omnivorousness of the platform suspensions.

High ride comfort, choice of any trajectory for driving through potholes, and absence of breakdowns on poor surfaces are priceless in Russian conditions.

The big advantage of the front-wheel drive Lada pseudo-crossover is its large list of equipment. For example, parking sensors are missing only in the base, and rear parking sensors and ESC and HCA systems are installed by default in all trim levels. The top-end XRAY Cross Luxe also has a rear view camera, heating of the rear sofa, steering wheel and the entire surface of the windshield.

Competitors

The main rival of the domestic X-Ray Cross 2022 is the French model Renault Sandero Stepway, but some experts note that the XRay is quite capable of competing with some representatives from the SUV segment, in particular, the Renault Duster or the more expensive Kaptur.
