The line of Lada models with the Cross prefix has been replenished with a new all-terrain version of the Lada Xray Cross 2018-2019. The presentation of the new product took place at the Moscow Motor Show, and the raised hatchback will go on sale towards the end of this year. In addition to the original external design with an abundance of protective plastic elements, the new X-ray Cross is distinguished by a special interior configuration and an expanded set of equipment, including a completely new driving mode selection switch. The price of the model has not yet been announced, but, obviously, it will be at the level of the top-end configurations of the regular Xray, that is, it will exceed 700 thousand rubles.
Dimensions and body design features
The “off-road” version of the hatchback has increased in size compared to the standard five-door. The most significant increase occurred in height, which is explained, first of all, by the increased ground clearance (215 instead of 195 mm) and the roof rails installed by default. The total increase was 75 mm, bringing the height to 1645 mm. The Lada X-ray Cross has not gained much in length and width – 6 mm (4171 mm) and 46 mm (1810 mm), respectively. The front wheel track has expanded to 1503 mm (from 1492 mm), the rear - to 1546 mm (from 1532 mm).
The main distinguishing feature of the Cross hatchback’s appearance, as expected, was a powerful plastic body kit around the perimeter. The edges of the wheel arches, sills, and the lower part of the doors are covered with protective overlays. The rear bumper is completely sewn up, and the black color is only diluted by a silver insert, complemented by red touches of reflectors and a fog lamp.

If we talk about the front end, in addition to the signature X-shaped flourish formed by chrome moldings, there is a matte silver strip in the lower part of the bumper, which, due to the contrast with the black plastic, gives the fairing a more attractive look.

When examining the X-Ray Cross from the side, two more original parts catch your eye - the fin antenna and M+S type tires measuring 215/50 R17. By the way, it is the high rubber tread, which guarantees good grip on wet and snowy roads, that provides a 20 mm increase in ground clearance.
Model history and time of entry into the market of the new Lada XRay Cross
Lada XRAY Cross is a subcompact all-terrain vehicle that has a number of advantages of a stylish city hatchback. The target audience is residents of large cities who need tall cars to travel both around the city and on country roads.
On the eve of National Unity Day, sales of the new, improved X Ray Cross car will begin in dealership showrooms. The new product is entering the Russian market under the slogan “Lada. New Horizons”, which initially informs the buyer about the off-road characteristics of the car. Since the beginning of production, the X Rey belonged to an indeterminate class: a high hatchback or a crossover.
The hatchback is still closer to the model, but the Cross modification turned out to be the most attractive.
The car was presented in August, the premiere took place at the Moscow Motor Show. Full production of the new Lada was launched in October. The start of sales was planned around the first quarter of 2022, but, most likely, the date of entry into the Russian market will be postponed to a later period. According to preliminary data, the car will be available for purchase at the end of this year. At the time of release, the car will be the top of the company’s model range.

The interior of the new X-Ray in Cross format is decorated in the same bright two-tone colors as the interior of the Lada Vesta SW Cross station wagon. But if Vesta only has seats and door cards of a similar color, then X-Ray also has a significant part of the front panel, plus the central tunnel and foot mats.

In addition to the special finishing, the model received several important updates in terms of equipment. The first of these is the new three-stage heated front seats. Its buttons are located on the console, and not on the chairs themselves. The front seats of the Xray Cross are also equipped with a different frame with embossed lateral support bolsters and a soft backrest, which increases the comfort of rear passengers. Riders in the second row should also experience another innovation - a more vertical position of the backrests, which makes it possible to move the seat cushions back and thereby free up an additional 25 mm of legroom.

The list of improvements continues with a new steering column, adjustable not only in height, but also in reach. And finally, we come to the main innovation, which is the driving mode selector, which controls the stabilization system and traction control. There are five algorithms for the operation of on-board electronics. In normal mode, all systems are turned on; in sports mode, the accelerator pedal becomes more sensitive and it becomes possible to move away with slipping; in “winter” mode, wheel slip is allowed to increase braking efficiency; settings for sandy surfaces further weaken the control of the electronic systems. The last, fifth position, ESC Off, completely disables stabilization, but when a speed reaches 54 km/h it automatically turns on.

Technical characteristics of Lada X-ray Cross 2018-2019
The new Lada cross-hatchback will be equipped with a 1.8-liter engine with an output of 122 hp. and 170 Nm. It will be accompanied by a 5-speed manual transmission or a robotic gearbox. The car is deprived of all-wheel drive, and as compensation it relies on the driving mode switch already presented above.
There are some improvements in the chassis design of the new product that technically bring the X-ray Cross closer to Vesta. Thus, the front suspension of the “off-road” hatchback has acquired L-shaped arms, which should help improve handling. Another innovation is rear disc brakes, which are rare for cars on the B0 platform. The changes also affected the steering, which received an electric one instead of an electro-hydraulic one.
Equipped with a 1.8-liter engine, the Xray Cross accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds (manual) or 12.6 seconds (robot). Top speed is limited to 180 and 176 km/h respectively. When equipped, the weight of the Cross version of the X-ray reaches 1300 kg.

The basic Optima package includes a proprietary audio system with MP3, hands free and Bluetooth, an on-board computer and front electric windows. This option also has mechanisms for adjusting the driver's seat and steering column. To improve active and passive safety, the car is equipped with a stabilization system, two front airbags and an electric power steering.
The Comfort package includes: air conditioning, rear electric windows, heated front row seats and rear mirrors, a sun visor with a mirror for the front passenger, and a multifunction steering wheel.
A distinctive feature of the package is the exterior door handles, which are the same color as the body. 15-inch aluminum wheels are also considered characteristic of Comfort.
The Luxe package includes climate control, fog lights, light and rain sensors, a case for glasses, and combined upholstery. A heated windshield is also available. Wheels 16 inches. There is a small stash box built under the passenger seat.
