Along with Vesta, XRAY became one of the first cars from the so-called “X” Lada series. Despite skeptical outcries at the beginning of the car's production, he still managed to prove that a domestic car can look good and differ from the cars of the last century.

The sloping roof, short overhangs, and modern side mirrors with LED turn signals add dynamism. The manufacturer also showed the Lada Niva 2022 and Priora 2018. Now about the updates. The changes did not affect the technical part of the car, but slightly transformed the appearance. The manufacturer has added new options that increase comfort and safety.

It should be said right away that all updated crossover configurations have a plastic sill trim, which has slightly improved the aesthetic appearance of the car.

As for the options, the manufacturer acted simply: it made available some of the “bells and whistles” of expensive trim levels on cheaper ones, and equipped the expensive ones with new ones. At the moment, the Lada XRAY crossover has as many as 15 configurations, the cost of which varies from 614,900 to 845,000 rubles.

The top-end Luxe kit and the special Exclusive version received a cruise control system and a speed limiter. In order to control new functions, you can use the buttons on the steering wheel.

The update relates to the safety element and allows you to navigate more safely in urban environments. Only cars with a 1.8-liter engine with “mechanics” and a classic automated robot are equipped with the option.

Also, the Luxe equipment was noted for the appearance of a central lamp in the cabin, which illuminates the rear seats.

In addition, there is now illumination of the places through which the driver and front passenger enter and exit the car. Before this update, such light elements were only in the Exclusive version. This is where the changes in Ixray end.

In comparison with the XRAY, the Lada XRAY Cross, in addition to the increased ground clearance, has several significant technical differences, mainly a modified front suspension, an electric steering wheel, instead of an electro-hydraulic power steering, which allows you to adjust the steering column according to reach. Comfort and safety options have been added, for the first time for Lada - a washer for selecting the operating mode of the stabilization system.

The design of the new XRay Cross completely copies the concept shown a year earlier. This is a continuation of the development of X-graphics. You can distinguish the Cross model from the front by the bumper, which has a silver lip at the bottom; on the side – along the black plastic linings above the wheel arches; and at the rear, along the outward-facing dual exhaust pipes and a bumper completely made of black plastic. This black plastic “skirt” now encircles the entire perimeter of the car, from the level of the license plate at the rear, runs like moldings along the bottom of the doors on the side, and ends on the front bumper under the foglights.

The XRay Cross is equipped with new 17-inch wheels, which not only complete the X-design image, but also contribute to the impressive ground clearance.

The steering wheel can now also be adjusted for reach, and its functionality has increased significantly due to new buttons.

Rear passengers are not left out either - the sofa is now equipped with a heating system. The legroom for people sitting behind has increased by 25 mm, but due to changing the angle of the non-adjustable backrest to a more vertical one, which cannot but raise concerns for the comfort of passengers over long distances.

Platform, suspension, brakes

Lada Xray Cross 2022 is the result of mastering the Renault-Nissan B0 platform by Russian engineers. The position of the subframe has been changed, the running arm is now negative, and in place of the “Loganov” lower arms there are L-shaped arms, like Vesta’s. These modifications should reduce the level of vibrations on the steering wheel, correct slurred reaction (known features of the B0 chassis) and improve handling.


The “pseudo-crossover” has only front-wheel drive, but car representatives also promised a more energy-intensive suspension.

The track was widened by 11 mm at the front and 14 mm at the rear (to 1,503 and 1,546 mm, respectively), and ground clearance increased to 215 mm. 17-radius wheels and 215/50 M+S tires contribute to the high ground clearance.

Due to the black plastic skirt, the overall length of the car increased by 6 mm (4171 mm), and the width by 46 mm (1810 mm). The height has increased by 75 mm to 1645 mm.

Engine and transmission

Lada Xray Cross is available only with a 1800 cm³ gasoline engine developed by AvtoVAZ. This is an inline four-cylinder engine producing 122 hp. at 6000 rpm and 170 N∙m at 3700 rpm.

But there are two gearboxes to choose from: a five-speed manual and a poorly proven five-speed robot.

The new Cross will go on sale in November-December 2022. In terms of equipment level, one basic configuration is assumed; you can only choose between an automatic or manual transmission. The cost is still unknown, but judging by the number of modifications, the price of the new Lada Xray Cross will start at well over 700,000 rubles for the manual version.

Many car configurations have become a little more expensive, which is due to some changes. To buy or not to buy an updated Russian crossover.

The attractive price beckons, and for good reason. The fact is that the simplest, basic equipment of the car is more “sophisticated” than the same as on any Hyundai Creta. And a completely top-end car is cheaper than its competitors.

  • in the new model, engineers combined two platforms at once - their own, on which the Vesta family was produced, as well as the French B0, as a result of which many additions and changes appeared;
  • the front suspension acquired L-shaped arms;
  • car handling has improved;
  • electric power steering appeared;
  • disc rear brake system;
  • Operating modes, of which there are five in total, can be changed using a washer-shaped control device.

The designers did not ignore the interior design, presenting the Lada X-Ray model with the Cross prefix with a modernized interior, namely:

  • The front seats received a number of changes, in particular they acquired three-stage heating and a convenient control system;
  • the updated model received a multifunctional steering wheel with the ability to adjust it in height and reach;
  • if necessary, you can fold the back of the passenger seat, which allows you to transport long objects;
  • the rear seats are heated;
  • In the new model, there is more space for rear seat passengers, which was achieved through changes in the design of the sofa.

Considering all the changes and innovations of the Lada X-Ray in the new body, we can safely say that this is not just an elevated model, but even a new vehicle. It implements quite a lot of changes and innovations.

Interior

The interior trim is made using inexpensive, but fairly high-quality and durable materials. The interior of the Lada X-Ray Cross 2022 is implemented in contrasting colors, with light predominant on the dashboard, the sides of the seats and on the plastic door trim.

  • The design of the steering wheel, supplemented with activation buttons for on-board systems, provides a free view of the dial indicators of the instrument panel.
  • In the center of the oval cutout of the console there is a media information display with push-button settings. And in the lower part you can see the controls for the air conditioning system.
  • The tunnel is equipped with gear shift and handbrake levers, as well as a multi-mode selector washer for the chassis stabilizer. The steering column is adjustable not only for tilt, but also for reach.
  • The front seats with elastic filling and moderately designated lateral support are equipped with a typical set of standard settings and three-stage heated seats. The top modifications provide heating for the rear three-seater sofa.

The new body provides rear-row passengers with more legroom. If it is necessary to transport large and long cargo, you can fold the back of the sofa and more than double the 361-liter volume of the luggage compartment.

The published photos show that the basic version received a number of body design updates, increased ground clearance and more effective plastic body protection.

The status of the urban all-terrain crossover that has survived another restyling is also confirmed by the design of the body kits, high wheel arches with 17-inch wheels and compact roof rails mounted on the roof.

In frontal view, the new model is identified at first glance by the chrome-plated perimeter of the X-shaped front end, which includes:

  • radiator trim with wedge-shaped headlight units;
  • air intake of the engine compartment ventilation system;
  • a set of fog lamps located under the brake cooling diffusers.

  • The trim of the basic version is unlikely to change and will remain standard.
  • As for the dashboard and instruments themselves, they will not be changed and will be carried over from the 2016 version.
  • The interior design will have combined colors, which, according to the manufacturer, will make it more attractive and modern. The future owner will be able to choose a combination of shades.
  • The center console, on the contrary, will become more modern and will have practically nothing in common with the old one.
  • The car will receive a touch screen to control multimedia, navigator, and some options.
  • The steering wheel has buttons to control options, which are convenient to use when driving.
  • Climate control is available as an additional option.

Specifications

The fact that it was Kalina of the second generation that became the basis for the manufacture of the car in question determines their similarity. In comparison with the previous generation, this one has practically not changed its size:

  • The length was 4,165 mm.

  • Wheelbase 2,592 mm.

In addition, the ground clearance has been significantly increased. In ordinary sedans it is no more than 160 mm, while the model in question has a ground clearance of 195 mm. But the trunk is inferior in volume to many competitors, it is 361 liters.

This car has a relatively small number of competitors. This is due to the fact that the cost of this model, even when fully equipped, does not exceed a million rubles. However, despite this, it has competitors:
