The XRAY's trunk size is not impressive (361 liters), and the lack of space is especially noticeable on long trips. To increase the trunk volume, you can install a car box on the roof of the crossover. But not everything is as simple as it seems; there are no standard places for mounting roof rails on the XRAY roof. Let's look at possible solutions to this shortcoming.

It should be noted right away that it will not be possible to install roof rails on the roof of a hatchback, since AvtoVAZ did not provide for this possibility. Accordingly, such products are not available for sale. Of course, you can do everything yourself and install them from other cars. As practice shows, roof rails from the Infiniti FX 37 (only in the S51 body), as well as from the Renault Sandero Stepway, on the basis of which X-Ray was developed, are suitable in size.
Some people decide to drill into the roof just to install roof rails.
However, you will have to solve a lot of problems - remove moldings from the roof, drill holes under them to create places for fasteners, dismantle the ceiling for fixation purposes, etc. Not to mention strengthening the roof so that the glass does not crack under load.
In light of this, it must be admitted that the only real option for a roof rack for the X Ray is the arches.

In this case, everything is extremely simple, since the Lada X-Ray does not have gutters, standard places for fixing and roof rails, there is only one option left - crossbars that are fixed to the smooth roof. Disadvantages of the X Ray roof rack
Don’t delude yourself into thinking that a roof rack has only advantages. It also has some disadvantages:
- Difficulty of loading - usually fairly light luggage is loaded onto the roof, although it can be bulky. The difficulty lies in the fact that the load has to be lifted to an almost 2-meter height, and it is necessary to be extremely careful so as not to damage the X-Ray paintwork.
- Windage - due to the additional load on the roof, resistance to side winds increases, making it more difficult to control the hatchback. This is especially noticeable when a truck passes on the highway in the oncoming lane.
- Noise - at high speed the cabin is filled with noise, especially if rectangular arches are installed on the X-Ray roof. Installation of aerodynamic arches makes the problem less acute, but does not completely eliminate background noise.
- Height – when driving through tunnels, stopping in closed parking lots, etc., you must be extremely careful.
It is worth remembering that with a roof rack the windage increases noticeably.
