But you can save on this by installing the trunk yourself. Moreover, everything you need is included in the kit, including {installation instructions}. An approximate method for installing roof rails looks like this:

1. We install the machine on a level area.
2. Open the back and front doors on the right or left side of the car.

3. Remove the rubber seal between the roof and the upper edge of the doors. We start with the back door.

4. There is no need to make holes for attaching the roof rails. They are provided by the factory and hidden under electrical tape. There is also no need to remove it. It is quite simple to pierce the electrical tape in a suitable place, having previously applied (tried on) the railing.

5. Using a clean rag, we wipe the areas under the roof rails, getting rid of possible dirt and dust.
6. We place the gaskets from the set into the seats, aligning them with the mounting holes.

7. We attach the right rail, placing its fastenings on the gaskets in such a way that they are between the bracket and the body.
8. We fix the railing using the supplied screws, 3 on each side of the car, without clamping them completely.
9. Pressing the roof rail tightly against the roof, we completely tighten the middle screw, and then the other two, but do not “tighten” it tightly.
10. Along the perimeter of the front and rear fastenings of the roof rails, we glue the edging of the protectors in such a way that the fastenings come out inside them.
11. We dismantle the railing.
12. In the resulting “windows”, limited by edgings, we install protectors by gluing them to the roof surface. The arrows on the treads should be oriented forward.
13. We remove the edgings and smooth the protectors.
14. We install the railing using the method described above. We tighten the bolts all the way.
15. We install the railing on the other side in the same way.

Cross members

But the roof rails are not yet a real trunk, although some loads can be secured to them. To improve the system, you will need to purchase and install cross bars (cross members). They are also made of strong duralumin alloy.

They are attached to the longitudinal rails of the roof rails using a bolted connection. Cross bars can be either universally applicable or created for a specific car model. The cost of a set of crossbars for Grants (2 pieces) ranges from 1300 to 5000 rubles.

All rails for Grants are designed for 50 kg of transported cargo . On this trunk you can transport:

The roof rails were available in two color options: black and light gray, similar to aluminum. When purchasing, we applied both options to the roof, and the black ones looked rather poor, at least on the orange grant. That's why we bought "shiny" ones.

Installation is simple. You need a car with a clean roof and a protective film to protect the paintwork on the doors.

. Everything else is included with the roof rails: six bolts, a wrench for the bolts and a thick self-adhesive film to protect the roof and outlines for marking where the film will be applied.

Open the doors and remove the upper seal near the roof, starting from the rear door to the A-pillar.

Under the seal we see strips of electrical tape covering the threaded holes for installing the roof rails. We pierce holes in this electrical tape with any available object and fasten the roof rails with bolts and the key from the kit, without particularly tightening them.

Next, along the perimeter of the plastic supports, we paste self-adhesive strips of tape onto the roof, which will mark out the places where we will need to glue the film, which is needed to protect the paintwork of the roof. Unscrew the roof rails and remove them.

Installing roof rails yourself

1) open the front and back doors on the left side.

2) We dismantle the upper door seal, starting from the rear door and ending near the windshield.

3) Using a clean cloth, wipe the areas where the roof rails meet the roof.

4) We make a preparatory fitting of the railing, and cut out holes for the bolts in the protective sticker.

5) Now you can start installing the roof rails: to do this, we put special gaskets between the roof rail fastenings and the car body (1 pcs in front, 2 pcs in the back), install the rails, and tighten the mounting bolts.

We tighten the bolts strictly in the following sequence:

At first, we simply tighten it 2-3 turns, then tighten the screw in the middle (located on the rear bracket), pressing the roof rail tightly, then tighten the other 2 screws.

6) Now you need to install special protectors (linings). it's done like this:

Along the perimeter of the roof rail fairings, we glue special protector edgings onto the roof surface, and dismantle the roof rails.

In the resulting windows, inside the frames, we glue the appropriate protectors (on the protectors there are arrows indicating the direction of movement of the car, and pointers to the left and right sides, the rear and front doors). Using smoothing movements, press the protectors firmly onto the roof surface.

We install the roof rail again.

We mount the rubber seal back.

We perform similar actions on the right side of the car.

All roof rails are installed on the car. you can install crossbars and transport cargo.

6) Installation of protectors-linings on the roof of the car;

The rails have their own fairings, around the perimeter of which the protector edging is glued, after which the rails themselves are dismantled. As a result of these steps, you get windows framed with edging protectors.

Protectors are glued specifically to these windows in accordance with the directions relative to the front and rear doors. After the protector is glued, peel off the edgings. Such manipulations are carried out in order to protect the body from mechanical damage and future corrosion.

7) Installation of roof rails in compliance with the above proportions;

And now an important point that is not in the instructions!

On the doors from their inside, in those places where they will come into contact with the now protruding roof seal, be sure to

glue strips of protective film. Since after six months of use, the protruding seal rubbed the paintwork of the doors down to the metal!
