Lada X Ray Cross 2022 release in a new body: configurations and prices with photos


In the near future, a new version of the budget front-wheel drive hatchback with elements of a crossover layout – the Lada X-Ray 2022 – will roll off AvtoVAZ’s assembly lines. Consistently high demand for its predecessor has become a significant prerequisite for creating a more comfortable and technically advanced new generation model.

The successor to the model range is characterized by a modern body design, the successful implementation of a number of original design and technological proprietary developments. The new VAZ product is positioned as a B-class hatchback in an SUV body with improved off-road parameters.

Ground clearance

Ground clearance has never been a problem even for the regular Xray. In the Cross version it has grown to an impressive 215 mm. The figure is decent for many all-wheel drive vehicles and is comparable to those of models such as the related Renault Duster or Kaptur. The increase in ground clearance was the result not only of changes in the suspension, but also of a different wheel size. Add to this the unpainted plastic around the perimeter, and the Lada XRAY Cross becomes a good choice for driving off asphalt.

Specifications

The external dimensions in the nominal ratios of 4164 x 1764 and 1570 mm of the hatchback are copied from the early model without changes. In the layout and design features of the off-road VAZ hatch:

  • the well-proven front-wheel drive B0 platform from Renault-Nissan;
  • combined MacPherson and torsion bar axle suspension;
  • combination of disc and shoe brakes;
  • the wheelbase is 2592 mm and the ground clearance is 195 mm, typical of modern SUVs.

In various modifications, the 2022 X-Ray is equipped with gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6 to 1.8 liters, with an output of 106-122 hp, working in a productive tandem with a 5-speed manual or robotic transmission.

The test drive confirmed acceleration dynamics of 11.9-10.9 seconds, maximum speed of 170-183 km/h, fuel consumption of 6.9 and 7.5 liters. The modernized LADA XRAY 2022 feels confident in city traffic, but its off-road characteristics in off-road conditions are very far from perfect.

Appearance

If we talk about off-road body kit, then XRAY Cross is a vivid example of how “armor” can benefit the image. The Cross really looks much more harmonious than the usual Xray: unpainted plastic unloaded the heavy image. The 17-inch wheels were also a plus. True, on a rough road, as our Karakum run showed, shoes should still have a higher profile. The roof rails also contribute to the attractive appearance, giving the car a utilitarian look.

First samples

Even before production planning began, the first model of the Lada X-Ray Cross was presented in 2012, at the Moscow exhibition, which took place in one of the car showrooms. The first reviews of the new car from connoisseurs present at this exhibition were extremely positive.


The platform for creating the X-Ray Cross model was borrowed from the earlier released Renault Sandero. As for appearance, you won’t find any common features between them. Somewhat later, in 2014, in the course of further design developments, the appearance of the X-Ray Cross was slightly changed, and was as close as possible to what would be present in production models.

New options and features

Lada XRAY Cross boasts a number of new options. First of all, this concerns steering wheel heating - this is the first time such a useful option has appeared in our country on Ladas. And the rim itself can be covered with leather. On the Cross, the front seat heating buttons have finally moved from the end of the seats to the center console. The front seats have been redesigned and have more developed lateral support. The steering wheel now has reach adjustment. And the instrument cluster changed the color of the on-board computer display.

Salon

Despite the budget status of the hatchback, its interior leaves the most pleasant impression. Restyling had a positive impact on the expansion and quality of finishing materials, modernization of component technical and electronic equipment.

  • In particular, the information content of the combined analog-digital instrument panel has been improved and the command functionality of the 7-inch multimedia display built into the center console has been expanded.
  • Several buttons for activating on-board options are located on the front surface of the steering wheel.
  • The top-end configuration of the dashboard also includes ventilation ducts and remote controls for setting the interior microclimate.

According to experts, the functional properties of the technical and electronic equipment of the new hatchback fully contribute to the productive and trouble-free operation of the vehicle in different weather and climatic conditions.

In the basic version, the new generation hatch is equipped with a two-channel stereo radio and fewer comfort options. The design of the small-sized tunnel includes a technical sector with a compact manual transmission shift lever, cup holders and a small container for small-sized luggage.

The seats of the first row, trimmed with high-quality fabric, demonstrate moderate rigidity of the filler, imitation of lateral support, and extended ranges of operating adjustments. The three-seater sofa has a backrest tilt and the possibility of partial transformation to increase the trunk volume from 376 to 1382 liters.

The new body also has several additional niches, pockets and boxes to accommodate a full-size spare tire, personal items and small-sized luggage.

Lada Ride Select

Of course, the “off-road” version of Xray, like Vesta, does not have all-wheel drive. And it is unlikely to happen. But this modification still has some alternative. This is the Lada Ride Select system, which allows you to select one of five driving modes. It is also possible to disable the traction control system. There is also a sport mode, which sharpens the response to pressing the accelerator, and a “snow/mud and sand” mode, which not only changes the accelerator settings, but also allows a greater degree of slipping. We were able to fully test the latter mode in the Karakum sands. Of course, it will not replace all-wheel drive, but it will allow the car to move several tens of meters further than a regular XRAY.

Bottom line

The start of sales of the new Russian crossover Lada X-Ray Cross has once again been postponed and is scheduled for the end of 2022, but, alas, you should not expect all-wheel drive just yet.

The new Russian crossover will be sold at, in principle, a not very affordable price and it is unlikely that almost every car enthusiast will be able to purchase it.

Rumors that the X Ray Cross will only have front-wheel drive, and the 4x4 version will go on sale only in 2022, may be true - so far there is no such modification, which cannot but be frustrating. All-wheel drive was expected in the same way as a full-fledged crossover at an affordable price.

Chassis

In addition to many updates in the cabin and the appearance of the Lada Ride Select system, Xray Cross also underwent modernization of the chassis. The front suspension arms are similar to West's. It also comes with electric power steering. And, of course, disc brakes on all wheels. All this inevitably affected driving performance. The XRAY Cross rides on a winding road much nicer and clearer than the regular XRAY. Reactions to the steering wheel have become more accurate, and early drift of the front axle when overspeeding has disappeared. And an endless number of vibrations and shocks on uneven roads are no longer transmitted to the steering wheel.

Options

Lada X-RAY Cross 4X4 is planned to be produced in several basic trim levels. The simplest one, from which the entire model range will begin, is the “Optima” package. It includes a large number of modern features that you will not find on earlier models such as Vesta or Granta.

For example, in the Optima configuration, there are such passive safety functions as: front airbags (for the driver and passenger), an ABS brake locking system and a traction control system that helps the car climb a steep slope, and a directional stability system.


Additional comfort options for the X-Ray 4X4 model include an audio system (instead of standard audio), steering wheel and seat adjustment, both in height and depth. Also, there are heated front seats and central locking.

Externally, the car is equipped with DRLs (daytime running lights), 16-inch wheels, and high-quality paint. The price of this configuration will be approximately 589,000 rubles.

The more expensive X-Ray 4X4 equipment is “Comfort”. In addition to all the options from Optima, it includes a package of additional features. The main ones are: a small refrigerator and cruise control. Of course, despite such a small number of new functions, the price will change quite significantly, and will reach 639,000 rubles.

The latest configuration - “Top”, has significant differences from the previous ones. For example, instead of a conventional audio system, it is equipped with a player with a 7-inch touch screen. It also has heated mirrors, a parking sensor and fog lights. The price for this configuration will be about 680,000 rubles.

The first disadvantage is the price

At the price in the maximum configuration, XRAY Cross has reached a new psychological mark of 900 thousand rubles. And although prices are now high for all cars, very few are willing to pay almost a million rubles for a Lada. On the other hand, not so long ago such a psychological mark was half a million rubles, then 700 thousand rubles... Nevertheless, even for this money Ladas are selling well.

The new model line differs from the previous version by the increased diameter of the wheel rims, higher ground clearance and plastic body protection.

New body

Having carefully studied the photo, you will notice that the model differs from its predecessor in small details. This is a slightly elevated body position and aggressive design style. The small front end appears more massive thanks to the high and wide hood and X-shaped radiator trim.


The wedge-shaped blocks of the front halogen headlights fit perfectly into the design of the crossover.

The car features sporty side diffusers, a set of paired fog lamps and a large metal-plastic body kit. The side reveals dynamic and vibrant details to car enthusiasts:

  • wheel arches have protective inserts;
  • many elements of graceful stepped relief;
  • three-section windows are characterized by a black perimeter and extended mullions;
  • the roof line smoothly turning into the stern.

The plastic body kit performs protective and decorative functions. The crossover status is also confirmed by the details in the rear of the car.

The improved Lada can be distinguished by the following features:

  • the spoiler visor has an enlarged format;
  • The high tailgate features oval glazing;
  • the rear optics have a different shape and are mounted on wide stands.

The wide body kit of the new model has three reflectors. In the cutouts of the shaped metal diffuser there is a pair of exhaust pipes, eyes and a towbar bracket.

The second minus is the cramped interior

Ixray also inherited a cramped rear row of seats from the co-platform Renault Stepway. There is not enough air for its inhabitants. Once a person of above average height is behind the wheel, he will no longer be able to sit comfortably. And the trunk, which holds 304 liters (according to ZR measurements), cannot be called gigantic by modern standards.

In a word, if the price does not scare you, and there is no urgent need for a super-spacious trunk, then the Lada XRAY Cross is a completely worthy choice even against the backdrop of numerous competitors.

  • Finally, stylish cars have appeared in Russia, and in a decent car, everything should be beautiful: both the interior and the exterior. Well, the trunk is tidy, of course.

It was a good car, the only thing that began to bother me at the end of its operation was the interior, which began to creak and rattle with such force that it was no longer covered by the music, it was very annoying. I chose a crossover, hoping that the new car would allow me to drive comfortably for at least the first couple of years. It didn’t come true) Ladovsky plastic did not pass the tests even in the first winter.

The new Lada XRAY Cross is a good city car. But it also behaves decently on the highway, we drove it to the Black Sea coast, 3,000 km there back - comfortable and economical, although there was not much space, 4 people drove, everyone fit in and did not complain), along the highway at 120-130 km / h and the climate control is turned on, the car behaves adequately and does not stall. Very obedient car!

It's beautiful inside and out, now it's definitely a hatchback. The suspension and steering are clear. Now only electric power steering, cheaper, simpler and more reliable. High ground clearance. Comfortable heated steering wheel and seats.

The 2022 Lada Xray Cross is equipped with a 122-horsepower 1.8-liter gasoline engine, which can be paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a single-clutch automatic transmission (AMT). The new SUV has only front-wheel drive. The Xray is built on the B0 platform; the front suspension of the cross version has been modified: the Logan lower arms have been replaced with L-shaped ones, like the Vesta suspension. Also from its neighbor in the model range, the new product received rear disc brakes. In addition, the Xray Cross does not have an electro-hydraulic power steering, but an electric one; the number of revolutions from lock to lock has been reduced from 3.3 to 2.9.

The cross-version differs from the standard five-door in its ground clearance: its ground clearance is 215 mm, while that of the regular Xray is 195 mm. The new product turned out to be the widest in the Lada line - 1,810 mm versus 1,785 mm on Vesta Cross.

The Xray Cross has a Lada Ride Select function: it allows you to select one of five driving modes using a puck located on the center console. Appearance

In general, the new body of the Lada X Ray Cross 2022 is not much different from the usual configuration of the car. In the photo you can see that the car has become a little taller, acquired protective elements made of plastic and metal, and also received more aggressive body kits at the front and rear.

The face of the car is also very small in size, but due to the fact that it is set high, it still seems massive. At the very top of the front end you can find a slightly sloped bonnet, the sides of which are slightly recessed. Directly below these recesses there is a massive head optics, which can be filled with high-quality halogen lights and even xenon. All the fun is in the center of the bumper.

The lower part of the bumper also includes features such as additional air intakes located on the sides, through which cooled air enters the braking system. Round fog lights can also be found here. At the end of the body kit there is also plastic protection for the body and engine compartment.

On the sides, XRAY Cross also underwent very minor changes. As before, the decorations here are a wavy relief, small windows with a glossy perimeter frame, stylish semi-plastic mirrors with turn signal repeaters and enlarged wheel arches. An innovation is a wide plastic insert at the very bottom of the body, which prevents sand, branches and stones from damaging it when driving on a bad road.

The rear of the car has changed the most. The roof now ends in a wider visor, on which there are brake lights united in one line. A little lower is the tailgate with a small window and stylish side lights. The body kit here is made entirely of plastic and includes fog lights, a metal diffuser, as well as an exhaust pipe, a towbar mount and a towing eye.

As expected, the car is practically no different inside from the basic version of the car. The new Lada X-Ray Cross 2021 model year is also finished with the simplest materials, such as fabric and plastic. All this quite often begins to make an unpleasant sound, since the build quality leaves much to be desired. The tunnel here is made as simply as possible. On it you can find such details as a gear shift knob, several holes for storing things or installing glasses, a parking brake handle and even an armrest, which, in the rich version, also boasts a cooled compartment.

The situation with the chairs has not changed much either. Still here you can see five seats, trimmed with a simple fabric, but quite soft. Among the additional equipment for the first row, the designers have prepared heating, mechanical or electrical adjustment of the seat position, good side support and comfortable headrests. The second row boasts only a reclining backrest and an armrest.
