The end of August 2022 was marked by the presentation of the Lada Granta in a new body, namely:

The 2022 Lada Granta in a new body has been radically changed; innovations have affected both the exterior and interior. The engineers did a great job, the model acquired an individual style and athletic smartness.

The manufacturer's main emphasis is on the balance of quality, reliability and budget cost. Although, the last factor was hardly successful.

The X-shaped front part of the Lada Granta 2022 was adopted from its “sister” Lada X-Ray. Thanks to 15″ alloy wheels, the vehicle’s ground clearance increased by 15 mm.

For the first time, alloy wheels with spokes and a polished surface were installed. The windshield washer nozzles were moved from the hood to a plastic frill.

On the technical side, there are no fundamental changes; one should not expect a miracle. Prices for models will remain in the same segment, but with slight upward adjustments.

Lada Granta Sedan description and technical specifications

The exterior of the Lada Granta 2022 is not very different from the previous generation, with the exception of the X-shaped front part, borrowed from Vesta, XRAY.

The front bumper will now always be painted in the main body color. In the central part, chrome inserts like a boomerang are installed. Extended air intakes on the sides add sportiness and some athleticism.

There are bugs in cars that manufacturers cannot solve for years. Electric amplifiers in Kalinas and Grants are an example of this. The problem is over ten years old, although the manufacturer of the amplifier has already changed, and more than once: now Makhachkala, now Kaluga and even Korean. I remember that during our Almaty tests in the Kalina sedan, when actively taxiing, the EUR simply switched off. The warning light came on - and hello! — steer on your own. Turned the ignition off and on - it works again. In general, any owner is familiar with interruptions of this node, or at least heard about them. In addition, the steering feedback has never pleased me. And in each individual car it was distinguished by its own character - either it seemed to be squeezed somewhere, or, on the contrary, it was too loose. Steering in a straight line on cars, especially from previous years, is a common occurrence.

The latest “grants” include continuously variable gearboxes made in Kaluga with new calibrations. It's better, yes. A pronounced zero zone has appeared, which is pleasing on straight lines, and pleasant resistance is felt when the steering wheel is deflected. But the steering has not become transparent, and in the active drive mode the mechanism openly begins to get lazy - delays and emptiness appear, and Granta itself doesn’t really want to give in - the steering, as before, is insufficient.

The suspension has not changed. But to refresh the information, I note that for the luxury “Grant” trim levels there are different settings for the front suspension geometry, and for versions with an automatic transmission there are more elastic springs and shock absorbers. And yes, the Granta’s cornering behavior has improved thanks to the introduction of gas-filled struts. Although this is no longer news - they were already on pre-restyling cars. But in general, stability is by no means standard - the suspension is wobbly, the body rolls noticeably, sways on uneven surfaces and nods when braking.

But what... energy intensity! Irregularities, holes, and rails are swallowed by the suspension without a hint of breakdown. In my video, I called Grant’s chassis a “land cruiser” among this class of passenger cars, although not everyone understood my metaphor. What I meant was that you can drive along our roads like an SUV. The only question is about the resource: how long will it last?

In addition, the ground clearance of a car with a manual transmission is 195 mm! As long as you have a grip, you can ride on rough terrain without fear of jamming the threshold. According to my measurements (in an empty car) it is as much as 220 mm from the ground! Or tear off the front bumper - the lowest point of the plastic hangs at a distance of 226 mm! Other crossovers cannot boast of such data without loading them.

In the exterior, the head optics and radiator grille have undergone significant changes. Engineers changed the already familiar shape of the hood and front fenders.

Wheels with a size of 15 inches are installed. Turn signal repeaters are integrated into the side-view mirrors.

The rear of the Lada Granta has also undergone changes, in particular the trunk lid, on which a small spoiler was pre-installed. Grant leaders highly appreciated the transfer of the license plate mounting location from the rear bumper to the trunk lid. The result was a certain completeness of style and form.

  • affordable price There are no cheaper new cars on the market. Lada also captivates with its accessible service. And if your pocket is completely empty, then VAZs are still repairable in the garage.

The interior of the Lada Granta Sedan is in many ways reminiscent of the Kalina, in particular the front console. The backlight was changed from green to white.

The front row of seats received new upholstery, lateral support rollers, larger headrests, and noticeable support. Top modifications are additionally equipped with seat height adjustment with a range of up to 4.0 cm.

No fundamental changes were made inside the car in question. According to the developers of the new product, the cabin has become much more comfortable, so that the driver and passengers will be able to withstand trips over long distances without any problems. The manufacturer has also provided for an increase in free space for passengers in the rear of the vehicle.

As for the lateral support of the seats, it will be much better than that of the previous model of this car. The positive thing is that the manufacturer paid attention to the mechanism that secures the rear parcel shelf. Previously, it caused a lot of noise and squeaking when the car was moving, as well as when the trunk was opened and closed. The trunk volume has also increased, which is about 410 liters.

The power unit and transmission were inherited from the previous generation. For manual transmissions and ATMs, the gear ratio was increased and adjusted to the engine power factor. Thanks to this, the acceleration time was reduced by 0.5 seconds. Main gear ratio: 3.9:1.

For the first time, the robot was equipped with a creeping mode, which is very convenient in city traffic jams. After releasing the brake pedal, the car automatically starts moving at a minimum speed. For those who like to drive on the track, there is a mechanical “Sport” mode switch.

Budget power unit of 1.6 liters with 87 hp. produces 140 Nm of torque, which is very good for the Lada Granta. The engine works in tandem with a five-speed manual transmission.

The maximum speed is 170 km/h, the first hundred is reached in 11.6 seconds. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 6.8 liters, urban mode consumes more - 9.2 liters, highway 5.3 liters.

The next two models have improved characteristics and are equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission and a five-speed robot. The maximum speed reaches 180 km/h. Fuel consumption: 7.2 / 9.9 / 6.1 liters, respectively.

What's new inside Granta FL

Well... the instrument panel. More precisely, it seems to be not new, but the one that went to Kalina since 2013, only slightly modernized. The modernization, however, is not crazy - a couple of decorative foil stickers in the area of ​​​​the central air ducts and white backlighting of the shield and buttons.


It’s hard to call this torpedo 100% Kalinovsky, since it was once made from Grant’s…

They decided not to indulge in modernization, but to take a couple of steps back: even in the top versions there will not be a large screen by VAZ standards at the top of the torpedo. A little expensive, I guess. Only a drawer with a hinged lid. You shouldn’t look for a multimedia system with a touchscreen in the equipment lists, as was the case in the previous top-end “grants”... Only what you see in the photo is an audio system with a small monochrome screen. Of course, don’t expect navigation. However, don't be upset. How it works in the more expensive Vesta is laughable to chickens, i.e. smartphones.

But what the Granta salon did not get rid of was unpleasant sounds. No, I’m not talking about crickets now; in the new test car, the plastic didn’t make a sound for 200 km. I'm talking about the same crunchy steering column switches, clicking switches, buzzing locks, a booming roof, etc. Fortunately, at least the nasty beeping open door buzzer was replaced with a more noble one, and the turn signal now just ticks quietly, rather than beeping.

The seats were updated - they became denser, a little more volume was added to the sides of the cushions, and a different upholstery material was added. And the headrests - the thin Grant ones - were replaced with plumper and softer ones. But the seats still did not become more comfortable. In our case, a failure was felt under the fifth point. And the shortcomings on the back are the same - it does not hug the torso as we would like, and does not support it at all in the area of ​​the shoulder blades. The driving position still cannot be cured with just one seat, even taking into account the fact that the driver now has vertical adjustment. The adjustment for the reach of the steering column was sorely lacking, it was never added. And how you want to drive away from the pedal assembly with this long-travel clutch!

Compare the row of new seats and those that were in the first “grants” (the next picture is from 2012), and notice: they have changed. A pronounced profile appeared, the seats became larger and more solid, but still not the most comfortable...


The driver's seat is height adjustable - this is a plus. It's a pity that they didn't add reach adjustment for the steering wheel.

A small progress in the update was the appearance of a trunk release button in the bar above the license plate instead of the classic cylinder. But the design of the lock remains the same, i.e. it protrudes strongly and unexpectedly pecks you in the back of the head when you raise your head after loading. Exterior

If you carefully study the 2022 Lada Granta, which is presented as a new model (photos can be seen on our website), you will see that it inherited many parts from the Lada Kalina. According to information provided by the manufacturing company's engineers, over 400 unique parts, mechanisms and systems were used in the new car.

Among all the changes, the most significant ones can be identified:

The same price, only after seven years of operation, is $3,946, i.e., a loss over such a long period of time is 60% of the original cost. To be honest, we thought it would be worse, because seven years of life for a Lada is almost the entire service life that the factory prescribes. Hatchback review

Let's start the review with the Lada Granta 2018/2019 hatchback.

Exterior

Externally, the model looks compact and modern, which is explained, first of all, by the improved front part and the original shape of the radiator grille.

The main changes to the new Lada Granta include a new front bumper, decorated with chrome inserts, a wider air intake and new head optics.

The headlights have an elongated shape, which required modifications to some parts of the body (fenders and hood). Additional fog lights are installed on the left and right.

When the turn signal is turned on, the blinking in the front and rear headlights is duplicated on the side view mirrors. This innovation gives the car more solidity.

The design of the wheel rims has changed slightly, and the shape of the body itself has changed slightly.

In the central part there is an updated nameplate of the VAZ automobile concern and immediately below it there is a place for a license plate, “propped up” by unusual “fangs”.

The rear of the Lada Granta is typical for hatchback-type bodies. The oblong headlights are located on the left and right sides and are located directly on the body.

The rear window, due to its large size, provides good visibility. A duplicate brake light is provided in the lower part (left and right). Immediately below the rear window there is a large inscription LADA.

Below there is a place for a license plate, and to the left there is a chrome Granta inscription.

There is an insert at the bottom of the bumper that gives the car individuality. At the same time, bumpers painted in body color are provided in all trim levels.

An additional feature is the absence of a cylinder in the trunk lock. The rear door opens using an electromechanical drive. But in some configurations the lock may be preserved.

Interior

There have been almost no changes in the interior of the Lada Granta 2018/2019 model. But there are still some innovations. The appearance of white backlighting for the buttons is striking (previously it was green).

The air vent deflectors in the central part of the dashboard, which have a rectangular shape, received an original edging.

The instrument panel is designed in the style of Lada Vesta. In particular, radial digitization and orange semicircles appeared.

The interior of the new Lada Granta provides everything necessary for comfortable driving. There are control buttons for windows and side mirrors under the driver's left hand.

A large digital display with basic information and alarms about emergency modes flaunts before your eyes. The central part of the steering wheel has remained unchanged and looks too massive, which previously caused a lot of complaints from car owners.

In the central part of the console there is a multimedia system, and below there are round climate control knobs.

There are two cup holders in front of the gearshift lever. On the right side (opposite the front passenger) everything is standard - a place for an airbag, and below there is a spacious glove compartment.

Among the changes, it is worth highlighting the appearance of new upholstery on the driver’s and front passenger’s seats. The bolsters providing lateral support have increased, and the dimensions of the head restraints have changed (increasingly).

The new Lada Granta is equipped with the ERA-GLONASS system. It is equipped with an emergency call button (mounted in the ceiling).

The top versions provide the ability to adjust the driver's seat in height. This option is not available in standard configurations.

An additional plus is the presence of a function to delay the light in the cabin after closing the doors. The program is designed to turn off the backlight after 25 seconds or after starting the engine.

Another feature is the option to delay turning off the headlights. Thanks to it, the road in front of the car is still illuminated for some time after closing the doors and setting the alarm.

Engine and transmission, fuel consumption

The engine and gearbox remained unchanged. The changes affected the gear ratio of the “robot” and the manual transmission. It increased from 3.7 to 1 to 3.9 to 1. This approach helped improve dynamics and ensure faster acceleration to “hundreds”.

The robotic gearbox now has a “crawling” mode, making it easier to move during traffic jams. By removing the foot from the brake pedal, the driver allows the car to move at a low speed.

There is a “Sport” mode, which is activated using a button and guarantees quick speed changes.

The 2018/2019 Lada Granta hatchback is equipped with the following engines:

  1. 1.6 liters with eight valves with a capacity of 87 “horses” and 140 N*m. The specified torque is achieved at a rotation speed of 3.8 thousand revolutions per minute. Recommended fuel is AI-95. The engine is complemented by a standard five-speed manual transmission. This combination ensures vehicle acceleration to “hundreds” in 11.6 seconds. The upper “ceiling” of speed is 172 kilometers per hour. Consumption, according to the manufacturer, is 5.3 liters when driving outside the city, 6.8 liters in mixed mode and 9.1 liters when operating the car in a populated area.

  2. The 1.6-liter intermediate engine has more power - 98 “horses” at 5600 rpm. Torque 145 N*m at 4000 rpm. As in the previous case, the engine is demanding on gasoline and requires AI-95 grade of fuel. The specified engine comes with an automatic transmission from Japan, manufactured by Jatco. With this option, acceleration to “hundreds” takes longer – 13.1 seconds. The upper speed limit is slightly higher - 176 km/h. Gasoline consumption (also AI-95) is 7.2 liters, 9.9 liters, and 6.1 liters for the mixed, urban and non-urban cycles, respectively.

  3. The top version of the 1.6 liter engine develops power up to 106 “horses” at 5.8 thousand rpm. The rotation torque is 148 N*m at 4.2 thousand rpm. As for the transmission, car owners have two options - manual transmission or “robot”. By choosing a new Lada Granta with a manual transmission, you can count on acceleration to “hundreds” in 10.5 seconds. If the choice fell on a robotic “box”, this parameter increases to 12 seconds. The upper speed limit in both cases is 184 km/h. Fuel consumption also remains unchanged. So, within the city the car “eats” 8.7 liters, on the highway - 5.2 liters, and in mixed mode - 6.5 liters.

As noted, the new Lada Granta uses three types of gearboxes:

  1. MECHANICAL - guarantees clear and reliable switching. The gearbox uses a cable drive, which reduces vibration levels. A special feature is the use of a German gear shift mechanism, which guarantees smooth operation. The use of a manual transmission improves driving dynamics and allows the car to accelerate to “hundreds” faster.
  2. AUTOMATED TRANSMISSION. This gearbox option can operate in two modes - manual automatic. The benefit is that the settings are updated and gear shift times are reduced. When you turn on the city mode, the car is easier to drive in traffic jams or in winter. The car starts smoothly, which is important on slippery roads.
