New Lada Granta sedan, which has remained virtually unchanged since 2011, has undergone a long-awaited restyling. The main changes affected the appearance and interior. But the technical part remained without significant innovations. Although this is not entirely true, some things have changed. But we will talk about this below.
After the stunning success of the Lada Vesta design, the manufacturer decided to take advantage of the situation and make the Lada Granta as similar as possible to the Vesta. At the same time, there was a non-trivial task to make the modernization process as inexpensive as possible, so as not to significantly increase the cost of a budget car. As a result, almost all metal stampings of the body remained the same. These are fenders, hood, doors. But the front optics, radiator grille and bumper, coupled with chrome “boomerangs” now represent an X-style similar to Vesta and XRay.
Nothing has changed on the side, the same doors from the first generation Kalina. But the designers did some work at the back. The new bumper has a more complex shape. And the trunk lid received a niche for the license plate (previously it was on the bumper). The trunk lid was the only metal part that changed its shape. The interior of the new Granta has new elements that can be noticed immediately. This is a new instrument panel with orange backlight and an enlarged monochrome on-board computer monitor. It’s difficult to call the front panel new, but it’s different, but this dashboard melted on the same Lada Kalina. For the new Grant, it was simply redesigned a little. The central place is occupied by a stereo system with a monochrome display. It looks quite harmonious and has a convenient control interface.
But the old dashboard will not disappear anywhere; it will be installed on the cheapest basic versions of the car. Particularly noteworthy is the new interior trim and seats, which are now different. The rear sofa has changed shape. The front seats now have increased lateral support and a heating function. And the driver's seat also received height adjustment.
Salon in the liftback
The configurations vary quite a lot from each other. In general, the interior turned out to be predominantly dark shades.
Practicality is felt in every detail: dark plastic and upholstery help to better keep the interior clean. On a pleasant note, it is worth noting the appearance of an updated screen between the wells on the dashboard. The graphics have been brought to a level where nothing interferes with reading information on a sunny day.

The manufacturer, trying to create a budget new Lada Granta 2018, designed the interior as follows:

The new body of the Lada Grant sedan has remained virtually unchanged in size. One can only note an increase in the overall length by 8 mm due to other bumpers. The width and height are the same. There are no changes in the size of the wheelbase.
As for the manual transmission, the manufacturer announced an optimization of the manual transmission design, an increase in the gear ratio of the main pair from 3.7 to 3.9, plus the gearbox will make less noise and unnecessary vibrations will disappear. Do you think that Avtovaz engineers do not know about the problems of the car. They know, but introducing innovations in mass production is not so easy. Restyling is a great opportunity to correct flaws. In addition to mechanics, a 4-speed automatic transmission and robotic AMT will be available.
The engines of the budget sedan retained their volume of 1.6 liters and the same power. The VAZ-11186 8-valve unit produces 87 hp. The 16-valve VAZ-21127 develops 106 horsepower. Another 16-valve engine, which is paired with a 4-band automatic transmission, will produce 98 hp. It would seem that the engines are the same - 4 cylinders with distributed injection, a cast iron block and a timing belt. But here too the manufacturer has prepared a surprise. To replace the old pistons with flat bottoms, new ones with recesses for the valves will be installed in the engines. This design of the pistons will avoid serious engine damage in the event of a timing belt break. True, it is still unknown when such engines will be installed under the hood of the new product.

First impression or exterior
“X” is the front bumper graphic. This innovation most clearly indicates the latest generation model from LADA. The trend of the future is immediately visible to the naked eye. This car has not yet entered the market and owner reviews are not yet available to us. New Generation
The “second” Grant will use the modernized Globak Access platform ( B0 ), developed by Renault. The same platform is planned to be used in the next generations of Logan.
Interestingly, the Renault platform being prepared for the new Granta is quite universal - it will also be used in the next generation of the off-road Lada 4x4. This solution is not new and has already been used in the Duster and Logan models.
All cars using the same platform will roll off the Togliatti assembly line. By 2022, Renault, which owns the domestic AvtoVAZ, plans to increase car production volumes, bringing them to a million units per year in numerical terms. All produced models will receive a unified platform.

It’s too early to talk about the appearance and prices of the new Granta: the design is still in the process of development, and the cost is of course expected to increase: AvtoVAZ is gradually moving away from the image of a manufacturer of budget cars (just look at the prices of Vesta and Xray), how far it will go - time will tell .

According to some data, the next Granta will appear by 2023 , but there is information that this could happen earlier - by 2021 . It is already known who will lead this project. Vasily Batishchev, who was still working on the creation of the “first” generation, was appointed chief engineer, and Olga Bazhanova, who was previously responsible for Priora, will become the project manager.
Before being presented to Grant in a new body, the existing model will undergo a small facelift in 2022 (see above). At the same time, the Kalina model range may cease to exist, and its modifications will be included in the Granta family.
Granta has been produced since 2011 and is available in liftback and sedan versions. The model is equipped with 106-, 98- or 87-horsepower engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters. There is also a sports modification of the Grant, where the same power unit is boosted to 114 “horses”. The transmission is represented by an “automatic” with 4 ranges or “mechanics” with 5 steps.
