Changing the oil and oil filter of the Lada Granta engine

Good day, dear readers! In the fifteenth issue of the in-flight magazine, I will tell you why I decided to change the oil in the Lada Granta engine myself and which oil I chose. I would like to immediately note that, according to the operating manual from AVTOVAZ, the oil is changed every 15,000 km, namely within the framework of TO-1, TO-2, TO-3, TO-4, TO-5, TO-6, TO-7, TO-8, etc.

In my case, I will change the oil every 10,000 km, combining it with valve adjustment.

Fuel pump mesh

The mesh is a coarse fuel filter and serves to protect the fuel pump from large particles of debris entering the fuel pump, which can damage it.

The mesh is located in the fuel pump glass and to replace it you need to dismantle it.

Relieve the fuel pressure from the fuel line. We dismantle the gas pump glass and take out the pump itself, replacing the mesh in it and assembling the structure in the reverse order.

Service intervals

The oil change in engines 21116 and 11183 (86) is carried out every 15,000 km. But the first replacement is performed immediately after running-in (2500-3500 km). The last rule applies only to 8-valve engines. And also, according to AvtoVAZ recommendations, the filter needs to be changed every time you change the oil.

According to the rules in force since 2013, you need to visit a service center for maintenance at least once a year. At the same time, no replacements are made for cars with zero mileage.

How much lubrication does the engine require?

In view of the previously indicated variety of power units available for this model of the LADA Granta, when version 8 valve, the volume of lubricating fluid for replacement can vary between 3.5 - 4 liters.

More detailed technical specifications regarding the specific motor installed on your car are reflected on the pages of the technical manual.

It is recommended to purchase a volume of lubricant that is 1 liter larger than the required amount. During operation, it is possible to add fluid (due to natural waste during operation).

Except for bearing lubrication, without which they would not work for any significant time. oil performs several functions, each of which is worthy of separate consideration:

• lubrication of rubbing parts, especially sliding bearings of the crankshaft and timing shaft;
• removal of excess heat from friction points to further increase the service life of parts;
• cleaning the parts of the piston group and the gas distribution mechanism from carbon deposits and soot;
• the formation of a protective layer that protects engine parts during startup when there is no oil pressure.

How to check the oil level in Grant

1. The car must be turned off for at least 5-10 minutes;
2. We take out the oil dipstick, wipe it with a rag and put it back;
3. We take it out and look at the light - the level should be between MIN and MAX.

The dipsticks on the Lada suffer from the fact that they are difficult to read. You may need to wipe and lower the dipstick again.

If the dipstick is very difficult to read, you can go through the area indicating the level with fine sandpaper. This matting shows the oil level more clearly.

When to change the oil of a VAZ 2190

According to the regulations, replacement on the Grant is required every 15,000 kilometers. Practical experience suggests replacement every 10,000 km. mileage, or once/twice a year.

The Grants are stuffed with Rosneft from the factory. The brand has not proven itself to be reliable and of high quality.

The first replacement occurs after break-in

new car - after 2000 km. This is not a requirement from the factory, but common sense - change the flooded s to something normal.

When to change?

Previously, the manufacturer stated that changing the oil in the Lada Granta engine should be carried out for the first time (after purchasing or completely repairing the engine) after three thousand kilometers, but later this recommendation was removed from the regulations.

Nevertheless, the experience of many car enthusiasts has shown that this requirement was specified for a reason, and in terms of timing it is optimal. And then during operation, the recommended period for using motor lubricant is one year or a mileage of ten to fifteen thousand kilometers. Also keep in mind that the intervals between replacements depend on a number of factors - the intensity of car use, the quality of road surfaces, idle time in traffic jams and climatic conditions.

Given the overall prevalence of unfavorable indicators, oil changes must be made somewhat more often, approximately every seven to eight thousand kilometers.

During the tedious process of choosing a given “consumable”, you should pay attention to its features, the main ones of which are its geometric parameters. A large army of owners are puzzled by the estimated resource of the element indicated in the article - the oil filter

Regardless of the quality aspects of this product, it should be replaced at least after 5-7 thousand km of travel. In the opposite situation, it will become impossible to “vouch” for the safety and durability of the internal components of the motor.

To avoid mistakes with selection and subsequent replacement, you should carefully prepare. It is not recommended to forget about the “golden” rule: the lower the quality of the oil used, the sooner the oil filter will lose its condition. In view of the above, you should resort to purchasing and filling only high-quality oils from global manufacturing brands applicable to Lada Granta engines.

If you are wondering which filter to choose, then, armed with reviews from owners, you should consider the following options:

• “UNICO FILTER LI” (the filter has won praise from the majority of “Grantavods”);
• "MANN-FILTER W" (balanced product, but the price is steep);
• options with a more affordable price: “FIL FILTER ZP” or “PUROLATOR L”.

When making a purchase, we focus on the engine size and the operational requirements for a particular “consumable”.

Necessary equipment

Before you start work, take care of the necessary tools and equipment. You will need:

• Oil. Volume: 3 liters. In general, the Lada Grant requires 3.5 liters of lubricant, but it will not be possible to completely remove the used consumables; about half a liter will remain in the engine.
• Set of keys. You will need a 17 mm wrench and a wrench to loosen the oil filter.
• Containers for collecting waste consumables. An old bucket or basin will do.
• A rag for cleaning the tray.
• Garage with inspection hole, overpass or jack.

Original

Most car owners prefer to install only original components on their car, which were originally on the car when purchased. The following original oil filters are suitable for installation:

• 21080-1012005-08;
• 21050-1012005-00;
• 21080-1012005-09;
• 21080-1012005-00.

All of them are considered original and are installed on VAZ cars. Specifically, the Lada Granta is equipped with an oil purification filter, produced and sold under article number 21080101200508.

Do not forget that original components (even for Russian cars) are often counterfeited, so during the selection process it is important not to buy a fake. The quality of counterfeits leaves much to be desired; they will not be able to provide complete fuel purification and will quickly fail

How much lubricant will be used depends on its quality, viscosity, operating conditions and driving style. On average, according to the manufacturer’s documentation, the consumption per 1000 km for the Grant will be as follows:

• 8 valves, engine capacity 1.6 l, power 87 hp: consumes 50 g;
• 16 valves, motor models of all varieties: consumption 300 g.

Engine oil can be consumed more intensively - a whole list of factors affects:

1. Overflow of lubricant;
2. Clogged or faulty filter;
3. Oil viscosity. The seasonal variety is used up faster than the all-season variety. But the last one is more likely
4. loses viscosity;
5. Malfunction or high degree of wear of engine components: pistons, cylinders, pumps;
6. In a new or overhauled engine, the increased oil consumption is explained by the grinding of the elements. When it ends, consumption should return to normal.

In some cases, the reason for high expenses may be difficult to determine. But eliminating the problem is an urgent and extremely important task. Delaying it usually ends in the need for expensive and major repairs.

What does a bad filter lead to?

If you do not change the oil filter in time, this will result in the following consequences:

• The oil will lose its original properties and cease to perform its functions. Together with the tasks of preventing friction, it will itself cause increased wear of parts;
• The engine will lose power;
• The heat transfer rate will decrease due to impaired heat removal. The motor will simply overheat regularly;
• The overall efficiency of the vehicle will noticeably suffer.

When choosing a new oil, there are no special problems, since there are recommendations from the manufacturer. It’s more difficult with a filter, since there are many companies and reviews about each of them are sometimes very contradictory. Therefore, you should approach the purchase of an oil filter very responsibly.
