There are already a lot of disputes about the release of new versions of Vesta. Some boldly claim that there will be no more modifications to the car; they will have to be content with a simple sedan. Others confidently say that the Lada Vesta station wagon with increased cross-country ability is already being produced; all that remains is to present the model. In fact, the official information is as follows: the car is not yet in production, there is only the Lada Vesta Cross concept, but in the near future the concern will bring this idea to life. In fact, it turns out that such a project is very strange for Russia. In our country, station wagons with all-wheel drive and high ground clearance are hardly sold, and it is very strange that the company did not just make a youth hatchback or a traditional family station wagon. In fact, you and I will soon receive a crossover based on Vesta, which will have a number of interesting features.

However, the project may still change and differ greatly from the concept. So you shouldn’t expect an identical model to appear on the market. Most of the information that is available on the Internet today is more like rumors. You should not trust gossip in such a difficult matter as launching a new model into production. It’s better to find some official data and be content with it than to form an opinion about a car based on false information. The question of when we should expect the release of transport is quite complicated. AvtoVAZ is generally unpredictable in this case. The concern produces cars spontaneously and unexpectedly; it rarely advertises its new products with a specific release date. So let's look at the information that is known today about the new project of the Russian corporation.

Main differences

In reality, the cars are very similar, especially when it comes to interior and exterior design. Virtually no changes in the interior. All the main differences relate to technical characteristics, equipment and price.

Salon design and interior

There are also differences in design. Cross models are distinguished by the fact that on the sills, arches and bumpers there is a plastic body kit with protection from scratches and chips. An individual bright orange has appeared in the color line, like the “cross Kalina”. What both models have in common are roof rails on which a luggage rack can be attached. Another detail of the image is the decorative nozzle on the exhaust pipe.

The interior has many almost identical parts, but there are many interesting solutions that make the “cross” version stand out. The interior of the new product is made more interesting and brighter, and all thanks to the decorative trim. At the same time, there are additional options, the installation of which is not provided for on the SV. However, all decorative differences can be ordered separately on the SV.

The main differences in the cabin are as follows:

  • original interior lighting;
  • light and rain sensor;
  • use of combined eco-leather and fabric in seat upholstery;
  • heated windshield;
  • the inscription on the dashboard Cross;
  • LED lighting in the front doors and interior;
  • decorative bright inserts;
  • use of climate control.

In all other respects, there are no differences in the interior of both models. In general, all the differences in the interior are only that the decorative parts are made in the color of the body.

Difference in car sizes

Naturally, both modifications are very similar in appearance. But there is a certain difference regarding the dimensions. So “Cross” is a little longer, wider and higher (4424x1785x1532) than “SV” (4410x1764x1512). At the same time, the mass did not change - 1280-1350 kg. The ground clearance has also been increased, which is 203 mm compared to the previous 178 mm.

Luggage compartment differences

The luggage compartment volume in both models is 480 liters, which is average for station wagons. The useful volume could be larger, but it is reduced by an organizer with various shelves and niches that are used to store various small things. The organizer is convenient for neatly arranging, securing and transporting small loads.

However, if you need to transport large items, then it will be completely useless. In general, it takes up quite a lot of free space and raises the floor.

To really get the full claimed 480 liters you will need to remove this organizer.

Suspension, transmission, price

The changes also affected the wheels; in the modified version they put 205/50 R17, and in the regular model they offer 195/55 R16 and 185/65 R15. In the rear suspension of the SW, they installed station wagon springs, which are 9 mm larger than those of the sedan, the Cross has completely different springs and shock absorbers, the suspension settings have been changed, and the track has become wider by 14 mm, the suspension has been retuned

The choice of transmission for the Cross is smaller than in the SW. For the city station wagon, the manufacturer offers 4 transmission options – 2 manual and 2 automatic. The “cross” version does not have a 1.6 liter engine option with a robotic transmission. In other words, the regular version is offered with a range of four engines, while the all-terrain model offers only three.

It’s not surprising that the Cross is more expensive than the regular SV version. If you don’t want to overpay and you are quite satisfied with the characteristics of the city version, then you can purchase it for 640 thousand rubles, and the maximum price tag will be 805 thousand rubles. But the price for the “cross” version starts at 756 thousand rubles. and reaches 848 thousand rubles.

Is it profitable to buy Vesta?

Prices for the Lada Vesta turned out to be noticeably higher than expected: at least 514 thousand rubles for the initial version of the Classic. However, there will be no completely empty configurations - this market segment is reserved for Granta and Datsun. And the base Vesta is equipped with a VAZ 1.6 sixteen-valve engine (106 hp).

), one airbag, ABS, stabilization system, front electric windows, central locking and steering wheel adjustment for height and reach. But competitors of foreign brands cost about the same! Hyundai Solaris 1.4 (107 hp.

The second-generation Renault Logan in a similar Confort configuration with an eight-valve 1.6 engine (82 hp) is only 4,000 rubles more expensive than the Vesta, and for the Volkswagen Polo 1.6 (90 hp)

However, Vesta in the Classic version will not hit the market right away, closer to spring, and the share of such cars in total sales, according to VAZ estimates, will be about 15%. And first of all, sedans in the “medium” Comfort configuration appeared at dealers, which should satisfy 65% ​​of demand. And as the price level rises, purchasing Vesta becomes more and more profitable compared to its competitors.

A “comfortable” Vesta with an audio system, Bluetooth connection, heated front seats, electric drive and heated mirrors, height adjustment of the driver’s seat and rear parking sensors is estimated at 570 thousand rubles. Renault Logan costs almost the same, but without parking sensors and ESP, Solaris is 20 thousand more expensive, and Kia Rio and Volkswagen Polo are 40 thousand rubles more expensive.

And the top version Luxury, which is expected to account for the remaining 20% ​​of demand, looks the most attractive compared to its competitors.

This Vesta with improved interior trim, rear electric windows, light and rain sensors, fog lights and 16-inch wheels costs 609 thousand rubles, and if you add a multimedia system with a rear view camera - 628 thousand.

But Vesta is not without eccentricities. It will have climate control and side airbags only in April - and this, of course, will affect prices. There is no leather steering wheel or curtain airbags at all.

And AvtoVAZ never introduced the promised five-year warranty. Now Vesta is covered by a warranty for three years or 100 thousand km, although the conditions for the Rio/Solaris twins are five years or 150 thousand km.

Well, I don’t recommend Vesta with a “robot” at all: compared to traditional “automatic” cars, its single-clutch gearbox is slow and uncomfortable.

For comparison, a Solaris with a four-speed automatic transmission cannot be purchased for less than 614 thousand, and a Polo with a six-speed gearbox is priced at least 649 thousand rubles.

The market does not need resuscitation of the “nine”: the Lada station wagon is preparing for launch

Under the current leader, and Nicolas More is currently in office, everything is somewhat different. There is a rational grain in the postponement of deadlines and even in their absence. It is better to calculate everything in advance, correcting possible shortcomings, than to release a product onto the market with a lot of “childhood diseases”. So what to expect from the Vesta station wagon and its cross-country version, which should appear at the same time?

Let's take the sedan as a starting point. Its sales figures speak for themselves. In May 2022, the model took third place in the AEB (Association of European Businesses) ranking, behind the Kia Rio and Lada Granta. This is explained simply. Lada Vesta is a strong competitor for all budget segment cars sold in Russia. The point here is quality, technical characteristics, equipment, price, special purchasing conditions and promotions. The aggressive policy of bringing this car to the market also played an important role.

Will it be possible to repeat this with new models that will not only be more equipped, but also more expensive? In addition, Russia is not a country of generalists. For Russians, sedans and crossovers are more preferable.

For an accurate answer, you need to wait for the announcement of prices and configurations. But now you can make assumptions based on known facts, your own analysis and assessments of market experts.

The Lada Vesta station wagon will have the following overall dimensions (excluding mirrors, including roof rails):

  • length - 4410 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2635 mm;
  • width - 1764 mm;
  • height - 1512 mm.

REGNUM news agency in more detail about the equipment of this car in the publication “All about the Lada Vesta station wagon,” but during this time more details were added. Take, for example, the overall dimensions, which are no different from a sedan. But the trunk volume, which is important, was not announced by the manufacturer. Most likely, its linear dimensions will not differ from the sedan, and the increased volume will be determined only by the body type.

The new model will have several other significant differences: rear disc brakes, a lockable gas filler flap, a trunk release button, a fin antenna, heated rear seats, an armrest with a storage box, a new instrument panel and dome lights for the second row of seats.

Production of the station wagon and its cross-country version will begin in July 2017. Sales should be expected in September-October. There is also no talk about production volumes at AvtoVAZ yet. But along with the launch of these two models, the Grant in a liftback body will leave the Lada-Izhevsk assembly line. It will be transferred to Tolyatti, freeing up production capacity for new products.

The station wagon will retain the general style and rear elements - bumper and taillights. Unification allowed the manufacturer not to interfere with the car platform, limiting the growth of product costs as much as possible. There will be no problems with the supply of parts to the assembly line, and spare parts to the network of official service stations.


The cross-country version of the Vesta station wagon will differ in its external design. These are different bumpers and a plastic body kit. The clearance will also be different. For the station wagon it is the same as for the sedan - 178 millimeters. But the cross will become higher by 25 millimeters (203 mm). Vesta Cross and another salon will be received. The approach is generally accepted, tested on other cross-versions of Lada - Kalina and Largus.

As for power units, there is not much choice. For models with X DNA, AvtoVAZ has two engines (1.6, 106 hp and 1.8, 122 hp) and two transmissions (5AMT and 5MT). They will not put a weak 87 - a strong unit and a Japanese Jatco automatic machine on the Vesta and Xray family. And sales will most likely begin with a more powerful motor and “robot”.

If we talk about the competitors of the station wagon and the cross-country version of Vesta, then these will be all station wagons in a similar price range. Among the first are the Ford Focus, Kia Sid and all cars in the same body from the Middle Kingdom. There will also be some competition within the brand - Lada Largus. It's also a station wagon. But when choosing the concept of the new product, this was taken into account. Largus is more utilitarian and practical. In addition, it has an outdated design and strange ergonomic solutions - a legacy of Renault. But Vesta is a car of a completely different perception, technology and design.

As for the price, Nicolas More spoke about a conditional 800,000 rubles, without specifying what specific equipment was for. Most likely it will. Only budget configurations will cost less than the mentioned amount, and more equipped ones will be a little more expensive.

And this fits well into the brand’s pricing policy. Now the Lada Vesta sedan is sold at prices ranging from 545,900 rubles to 735,900 rubles. And the most expensive civilian model of the brand is the Xray in the Exclusive package - 830,900 rubles. But what do industry experts think about the release of upcoming new products, about their competitive advantages and disadvantages?

“The market does not need another resuscitation of the Nine, but a modern, safe and, of course, beautiful car. Vesta started with the most popular body type in our country - a sedan, but the appearance of a station wagon and an off-road version is a unique offer in this class, and, of course, will also be greeted with a bang by buyers. Station wagon models from foreign brands are at least 200,000 rubles more expensive, so the only competitors of the new product will be neighbors at LADA dealerships - Kalina and Largus.

Of course, the design of the new product makes the car visually more expensive. It’s no wonder that Lada’s chief designer, Steve Mattin, previously worked for Volvo, which specializes in station wagons. And AvtoVAZ’s future plans include the appearance of the Vesta Cross in a sedan body, and now on the Russian market there is only one sedan in the off-road modification of the Volvo S60. So Vesta has a very worthy company.”

“AvtoVAZ announced its new products at the right time. For two years the crisis raged on the domestic car market. Almost all brands have significantly “cut down” the presented assortment and modifications presented in the Russian Federation. Accordingly, the only direct competitor now seems to be the Kia Sid SV. And with it, the new Vesta station wagon can confidently compete in price (and also in design, since the car turned out to be very nice). But there are nuances.

If Vesta (station wagon or crossover) costs 800-900 thousand rubles, then for the consumer it will be in the same field as entry-level compact crossovers. There are a galaxy of Chinese here (the same Lifan x60), but there are guys who are more serious:

Renault Capture/Duster (Nissan Terrano). Even in the single-wheel drive version they have better cross-country ability and a comparable price. At the same time, despite the same platform, due to design and positioning they cover completely different target audiences.

Hyundai Creta in the near future, if basic versions are available to the masses.

Not so obvious, but strong competitors are seen as Hyundai Soul, Ford Ecosport and Kia Venga. These are also very roomy and comfortable single-volume cars for minimal money.

Lada releases the right models at the right time. They will definitely be in good demand. Especially if they don’t “fly away” to a higher price segment. After all, the closer you get to 1 million rubles, the harsher the competition becomes. There are already Skoda Octavia/Yeti, Ford Focus station wagon, Suzuki Vitara and others.”

Competitors in the new car market for Vesta SW

If Vesta actually appears as a station wagon, it won’t have many competitors. Preliminary calculations show that the cost of the car will be approximately 700,000 rubles in a more or less decent configuration. Of course, with a new imported engine the car will cost more, but we will take average prices. In this case, the car may have problems, since the following competition looms in the new car market:

  • The Lada Kalina station wagon is a much cheaper and more practical car, which may turn out to be quite a serious competitor to the new product if it receives a decent update of the technical part and can be improved;
  • Ford Focus station wagon is another interesting project, the cost of which in the basic version today is 980,000 rubles, and here everything depends on the configuration and quality of the Vesta SW and on whether the company can obtain the required level of car;
  • Hyundai i30 station wagon is another very promising and interesting car with an affordable price tag of 910,000 rubles, very attractive technical equipment with excellent characteristics;
  • The KIA Ceed station wagon is another Korean project, which turns out to be even more affordable in cost, from 845,000 rubles, and in terms of technology it can surpass its main rivals, including the Lada Vesta SW.

So, in case of hopes for the incredible technical capabilities and unsurpassed appearance of the Lada, the company will suffer certain troubles in the market. If the corporation approaches pricing wisely and really sees its position in the market, then there will be a chance of getting normal sales. In each case there are certain nuances of promotion, but the new car market is not the only competition for a car.

What's in the cabin?

The interior of the Cross model can hardly be called luxurious; the basic equipment of the car is devoid of many options. However, you feel comfortable in the cabin, and all controls are at hand (see photo of the cabin). Moreover, despite the external asceticism, the ergonomics remain decent. The three-spoke steering wheel looks nice, and the seat materials are non-staining and durable.

There is enough space behind the wheel of the Lada Vesta Cross, and there are enough adjustments even for tall drivers. The profile of the seats is normal, except that the lateral support is quite “liquid” and I would like the lumbar support to be more reliable.

Subjective disadvantages and disadvantages of Lada Vesta Cross 2022 - 2018

The most serious drawback is the robot box, which is currently being installed on the assembly line and which migrated here from Priora. Yes, AvtoVAZ said that they completely redesigned it and tuned it.

But in fact, everything remained unchanged. Both on Priora and on Vesta. The robot also delays with switching, it can freeze, it can switch too early, so that the car nods. I read a lot on forums that the robot is adaptive and over time adapts to the driver’s driving style. But this didn’t happen to me. IMHO, mechanics, in this case, is the most preferable option.

The second disadvantage of the Lada Vesta SV Cross is that the suspension is very noisy. Now I’m not talking about specific breakdowns, when you change something and the noise disappears. It's all about the work itself. Even a fully operational car that rolls off the production line immediately starts to become noisy when entering the highway. Yes, if you moved from nine, you will feel progress and quiet operation of the suspension. And if you moved from the same Kia Rio or Solaris, which are Vesta’s classmates, you will undoubtedly understand that Vesta is much noisier.

The third subjective drawback of the Lada Vesta SV Cross is poor sound insulation. In the cabin you can hear the noise of the wheels, all the joints and unevenness of the road very well. And also a lot of crickets. Many Vesta sedan and station wagon owners simply coat the car with sound insulation immediately after purchase.

Next we move on to ergonomics. As for me, the controls for the power windows and heated seats are not very conveniently located. The power windows do not have an automatic mode. The seat belts are not located quite correctly, which is why it is not as convenient to fasten as in most foreign cars. Although over time you get used to it. If the steering wheel is made of imitation leather, it is not very comfortable, since in the heat your hands sweat and it becomes slippery.

Start of production and start of sales

The Lada Vesta, whose sales as a sedan exceeded all expectations, has also found many buyers in its new version. They waited for its appearance on purpose, did not buy a sedan, and now their expectations were embodied in plastic, rubber, glass and metal. Vesta sw and its cross-country version began to be produced at the Izhevsk plant at the end of June 2022, and sales started 4 months later, when the date October 25 began to show off on the calendar. On the same day, the cross version also went on sale, as previously planned, judging by information from official sources. At first there weren’t enough cars for everyone; new modifications were quickly sold out from official dealers. Most of the cars that have not yet been assembled were purchased through pre-orders. There were advertisements from resellers selling purchased new cars at a significant markup. After a couple of months, the excitement began to subside and station wagons began to appear for free sale in showrooms. For the first time, VAZ correctly calculated the marketing and released the right model at the right time? At least, previously VAZ could not even have dreamed of a significant demand for products (after the release of Vesta Cross). How long will this last? We will find out the answer in a short time, but for now all that remains is to observe the events taking place and rejoice in the success of the domestic manufacturer. In addition, not so long ago (April 10, 2018) in Kazakhstan, AvtoVAZ’s largest foreign market, sales of new “universal” Lada models started, their production was established at the Asia Auto plant in Ust-Kamenegorsk. Various configurations (similar to Russian ones, so we won’t focus on them) are already available for ordering and purchasing in 19 cities. Sales are carried out by branches.

Sedan capabilities

After a test drive of the car was carried out in the city and on the highway, it was decided to drive on a country road. And due to the almost 18 cm of ground clearance, we were able to easily drive in those places where the Rio and Solaris began to touch the ground with their bottoms. Vesta, practically without slowing down, drove along a very deep rut, while the SUV drivers in front were in bewilderment when the domestic Lada Vesta blinked its headlights behind them. Carrying out such a very extreme test drive for the sedan, we understood that there was a high probability that a tow would be needed, but the car continued to calmly cope with the assigned tasks.


Moving along the highway, the car holds well at high speeds, so before even a strong climb, you can not be afraid to accelerate and go into third gear. By the way, on the new Lada, we had to feel the traction control system only once, when we missed a necessary turn. Therefore, the pre-prepared shovel and the accompanying SUV for towing never had to be used.

When we returned to the city, all test drive participants came to a unanimous opinion about the car. It really is worth the price. By the way, we recommend that off-road enthusiasts take care in advance about installing good crankcase protection. The factory installed option does not have the required level of protection and therefore stones can damage the engine.

Options and prices

Comfort

Lada Vesta SW Cross with a base engine in the standard Comfort configuration with 106 horsepower costs 906,000 rubles. The same variation with a 122 hp engine. valued at 930,000 rubles. The Comfort package will cost the most with a 113-horsepower engine and a CVT. The price of this combination is 991,000 rubles.

When purchasing a Lada Vesta SW Cross, the car will be supplied on 17-inch aluminum wheels. The optics are completely halogen, but front and rear fog lights are standard. Turn signal repeaters are built into the side mirrors. In addition, they are electrically heated and can be conveniently adjusted using a servo drive. Additional decorative elements in the exterior of the cross-station wagon include roof rails and a rear spoiler.

The salon has a combined upholstery as standard. In addition to the fact that the seats are electrically heated as standard, they have good lumbar support. Don't count on seeing a crossover. Lada Vesta station wagon - appearance and main features of the car

The current head of AvtoVAZ, Bo Andersson, has repeatedly let slip about plans to produce this car, whose name is Lada West SW. The station wagon will be not so much an SUV as a family car with a slightly increased ground clearance. So you shouldn’t expect a crossover from the company. The appearance will be completely identical to the sedan, with the exception of the rear, which will receive a new trunk shape. So far the following facts are known about the appearance:

  • there will be no additions or alterations from the standard form of the current sedan; most likely, an identical car awaits us, but in a new body that has potential;
  • the popularity of station wagons in the country is very low, but the attractive and potentially affordable Vesta SW could change the situation a little and become a leader in the segment;
  • the interior will most likely also remain untouched; there is no point in changing what a potential buyer has long liked about a sedan and remains quite relevant;
  • the same materials will be used for production, you should not expect a sharp improvement in the quality of the car, its assembly or technical performance of components;
  • the rear part of the station wagon will be planned approximately the same way as the Logan MCV car is presented today; this will be the first competitor of the Russian family car.

Renault is greatly assisting in the development of the car, and the corporation also borrows many technical solutions from Nissan. This helped us develop our own technical base and a number of interesting solutions in the car production process. Interestingly, the station wagon is not the only update of the corporation. Most likely, next year the world will see the aggressive and sporty Lada Vesta hatchback to replace a number of AvtoVAZ models.
