AvtoVAZ understands that the Lada Kalina already requires a full replacement and its modernization is just a delay. Therefore, a fundamentally new car, which will become the successor to this model, should debut in 2022. There is no exact information about the successor.

Lada Kalina with the NFR prefix looks very defiant, even aggressive. The hatchback stands out from the total mass with a low body kit, a front bumper with a pronounced splitter, a convex hood with air cooling holes, a spoiler and large rims on low-profile tires. Compared to the standard model, the ground clearance has been reduced to 147 millimeters in order to lower the center of mass.

Sports motives

The interior puts you in an active mood. It is worth highlighting the stitching on the seats, controls, as well as the “zero mark” on the rim of the steering wheel. It is also worth mentioning the front seats with pronounced lateral support bolsters and a powerful profile. It is comfortable to sit in them - the body is clearly fixed.

The instrument panel in the wells is perfectly readable. Although, the monotonous display of the trip computer looks modest against the general background of the “avant-garde tools.” The center console houses a huge color screen for the multimedia and entertainment complex. The standard audio system sounds passable, but the graphics are not highly detailed.

The rear seat is expectedly cramped. A person 180 centimeters tall will inevitably have his knees propped up by the backs of the chairs in front, and the ceiling hanging over his head. The luggage compartment is also not encouraging - only 240 liters of usable volume.

Fighting spirit

When starting, the engine snarls menacingly with a low-frequency rumble and noticeably vibrates through the direct-flow exhaust system, thereby hinting at its ardent temperament. However, starting from a standstill turns out to be uncertain due to the lack of torque at the bottom.

Painting the plastic interior of Kalina

You will need to remove the tunnel, the sides of the dashboard and the door pillar linings. Then we thoroughly clean and degrease the parts. It is not necessary to sand or prime first, but those who are worried about quality should not skip these steps. Spray paint for bumpers is suitable for painting. Apply 2-3 layers and get black plastic interior:

Painting Kalina door trims

The door trims will need to be removed. Similarly, we clean them from dirt and degrease them. Sanding and priming before painting is also optional. We apply 2-3 layers of paint with the same paint with intermediate drying. After complete drying, install the upholstery in the reverse order.

Model history

The first generation Kalina has been assembled since November 2004, although the model has been developed since 1993 and the first prototypes of the car in different body versions were first presented in Moscow long before the start of mass production:

the hatchback was shown in 1999;
sedan - in 2000;
station wagon - in 2001.

The Lada with a radically new design sold very well, which prompted the company to modernize the model. In 2007, the 1.6-liter four-cylinder power unit was replaced by a more powerful 16-valve 1.4-liter unit, and the car's braking system received an ABS module.

But not everything was so smooth. Owners' opinions about the quality and functionality of the car were mixed. The precedents with the recall of a series of cars, in which serious defects in the steering and engine mounts were identified, also did not work in Kalina’s favor.

But, in spite of everything, the car was very popular, and in 2009 it even took an honorable 4th place in terms of the number of models sold among all domestic cars.

The second generation of Klina was introduced in 2012. The updated car retained its recognizable design, but received a number of significant technical improvements, some of which were borrowed from Granta.

Owners of the new model noted the following advantages of Lada Kalina 2:

Painting the panel/dashboard of Kalina

In this case, everything is more complicated, because you need to remove the Kalina panel, and this will not take five minutes.

You can go over the sandpaper in places where there are scratches or burrs. Degrease and primer as desired. Body bumper paint spray was used as the main tool. Apply 3 layers of paint and let dry until morning. For example, the central panel trim or Kalina air ducts can be painted a different color. As a result, the interior of Lada Kalina required 3-4 cans of paint.

Particular attention should be paid to reinstalling the dashboard. The main thing here is not to rush and not to scratch anything, so it’s better to find an assistant. After several months of operation, we can conclude that painting Kalina’s interior with our own hands was successful, the paint does not peel off in the sun and lies like original. Design

The 2022 Lada Kalina Cross in the new “plastic camouflage” received the following changes: increased ground clearance (+ 23 mm), larger wheel rims (+ 7 mm), modernized chassis (+ 16 mm), expanded wheelbase (+ 4 mm). The rest of the appearance was left the same, but the Lada Kalina Cross still looks stylish in the photo and the prices for the car remained almost the same.

Exterior

The Lada Kalina Cross in the new body remains as familiar as usual. The car's suspension, tires, door sills, door and wheel arches were changed, crankcase protection and gas-filled struts were installed, but the car company did not consider it necessary to change the radiator grille, bumper, shape of light lights, etc. The photo of the Lada Kalina Cross shows that the car remains in the same, familiar image.

Interior

The interior decoration of the new Lada Kalina Cross also remained unchanged, only colors were added to the decoration - orange shades appeared on the steering wheel, doors and seats.
