How to replace the front support bearing and strut on a VAZ 2110

For any car, the front strut bearings play a big role in terms of handling and safety. If this element fails, the risk of getting into an accident increases many times over.

Practice shows that when the support bearings are heavily worn, the car itself demonstratively lets you know about it. This manifests itself in the form of creaks, noises and other extraneous sounds. So you shouldn’t ignore the signals, but you need to immediately start fixing the problem.

Causes of failure and how to check the support bearing of a VAZ 2110

The original supporter is capable of traveling 70-100 thousand km. But if used incorrectly, failure will occur earlier. For example, a breakdown can occur due to:

  • dynamic driving style;
  • ignoring the features of the roadway;
  • liquid getting inside the part, which will wash out all the lubricant from the bearing.

The main symptoms of a malfunction will be:

  • knocking noise when driving on rough roads;
  • vibrations on the steering wheel when it rotates while driving;
  • slow reaction to driver actions.

Diagnosis of the malfunction is carried out by two people. Open the hood and place your palm on the support cup. Next, the friend turns the steering wheel. If you feel a stepwise rolling of the balls under your hand or they are knocking, this means that it is the bearings that need to be replaced, and not other parts of the chassis.

We share our experience: suspension on a VAZ, what to install and why?

... regarding the choice of suspension for front-wheel drive VAZs.
The question in spring (and not only) is very relevant! There are many different types of struts, springs, supports on sale, the eyes run wild and readers have many questions about what is better, how it will behave, etc. In this post, I will tell you about my impressions of the suspension parts that I had (and there were quite a few different ones), and you can already draw conclusions about what will suit you and what is better to take. I also suggest writing in the comments your reviews about your pendants, what they installed (cost), how much it cost, how it behaves. I will update the most voluminous descriptions in the post. As a result, we will get one large and VERY useful entry, after reading which our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be able to choose a pendant for themselves without going through thousands of forums on the Internet.

______________________________________________________ So let's get started, racks

At different times I had several manufacturers of racks installed, they all behaved differently:

Kayaba (KYB) gas-oil (Excel-G)

General impressions

I installed it after the stock ones, after installation it was like I was in a different car! It swallows bumps completely inaudibly, is moderately stiff (MODERATELY!), and holds the car well in corners.

Life time

I had it for a little over a year (but I travel a lot), then after the winter it quietly died - the gas in the strut evaporated and became decrepit.

Price quality?

Now the average market price is ±100-120 $ per pair, which I consider quite adequate for its quality and service life.

My advice

An excellent option for active, comfortable city driving! I recommend . .

Bilstein B4 gas-oil

General impressions

After the kayaba, I put them on. I installed it and the next day I went to the sea (350 km from home). On the way I cursed everything - they turned out to be VERY tough (at that time I didn’t really like it). However, they handled the road with the highest class, and the car was instantly pressed down on the waves.

Life time

Unfortunately, it took 9 months, the rear struts began to leak, the front struts actually took a little longer, but still they didn’t lose much of their rigidity properties

Price quality

Now they cost about $150-180 per pair, I’m not very pleased with the quality (or rather, the service life)

My advice

For an everyday car in which you drive a lot and for a long time, I would not take them, because the comfort is quite low due to the rigidity. However, if you drive a little and mostly not for work but just ride, and like active city driving, then this is a good option. In general, not for everyone

ADDED

from TechnoTuning I’ve been skating since 2010, in less than three years of operation, I’ve done three long-distance trips of 890 km one way, rivers, mud, holes, snow - you name it... they work like a charm! There are no pitfalls, the price/quality is very good... the problem is that there is a leftist and it is extremely difficult to distinguish left-handed Bilsteins from the original! It’s tough, yes, any defects in the coating immediately hit the butt!

General impressions

After almost a year of riding hard Bilsteins, I wanted something softer. The choice fell on ALCO, oil. I installed it, the first impressions were extremely positive - very smooth, soft, and work quietly. Then, after driving a little, they began to lack a little more rigidity and elasticity; in taxiing they were significantly inferior to the previous options, but they were still better than stock

Life time

Surprisingly, after driving them for a year, they were in excellent working condition, without a hint of any defects, I sold them, and as far as I know the next owner drove them for quite a long time

Price quality

The price ranges from $120 to $150 per pair, there are no complaints about the quality at all

My advice

For a car with an emphasis on comfort and not very active driving, this is an excellent option. The silence and softness of operation are at a very decent level, and the long service life is generally inspiring. I recommend! . .

General impressions

After ALCO, which was too soft for me, I decided to look for a harder and more reliable option. I took the plaza-sports. This is complete ***. Not a pendant, but a wooden stick. Very tough, very rude and loud.

Life time

Unfortunately, I got rid of them faster than they would have died, but I know from many reviews that they last a very long time (of course, they don’t work damn well, why should they break))) )

Price quality

The price is about $150-200 per pair, I didn’t have time to fully experience the quality, so I won’t write anything about it.

My advice

If you have a sports car that you use for various types of racing, this option is what you need. The road holding is top class, like driving a go-kart, rolls are minimal. However, for everyday city driving (in the realities of our roads) it is not at all suitable. You can drive it comfortably only on perfectly smooth asphalt))

ADDED:

from m1ke “The Plaza, of course, is very hard, but not so hard that it’s impossible to ride. Or maybe I'm just used to it. Quality depends on your luck. My rear left shock absorber is still alive (20 thousand mileage), but the right one began to die at 15 thousand mileage.”

from LeeTo PLAZA once upon a time... there were good shock absorbers for aggressive driving! But now I haven’t come across more than one normal set, or they jammed and they became like a piece of thick rubber (Kolya is your case) or simply began to soften to a slop state. There is no PLAZA now - it's over!

from surok-oil “at the moment there is also a plaza sport, in the summer on 17 wheels, so to speak, a stool with soft upholstery, the only one + holds the road at 5, turns without any roll at all. but the left pillar gave a long life. we will change."

General impressions

Remembering that I already had gas-oil Bilsteins, I decided to take oil ones, hoping that they would be somewhere between softness and hardness. In the end, this is what happened, their behavior is very similar to Kayabov’s, but a little harsher.

Life time

Also, unfortunately, I didn’t use them for a long time (a more interesting option turned up - the one I have now), but no defects were found during removal.

Price quality

Good price around $70-80 per pair, good behavior and quality

My advice

A good option for active and not very active driving in the city/highway, moderately hard, bumps are absorbed with a bang. I recommend! . .

Now I have H&R screws (converted from something else)

.
The product can be said to be exclusive, therefore I will not describe it too much, I will only write that I knew that they were hard and elastic - I made an informed choice, the turbotaz must be firmly controlled. However, unlike the Plaza, you don’t feel like you’re on a stool, small bumps are absorbed very gently, driving around the city is basically comfortable, and at the same time, the handling is excellent. And we can’t help but mention that the ability to adjust the ground clearance is simply delightful and convenient. . . ___________________ ADDED:
from VladimirTLT “I’ll add on my own behalf regarding the GT-PRO Sport 2 (-60mm) suspension kit: 1) The exact mileage is unknown, because My speedometer and therefore the odometer have never worked, I can only say that I have been driving this suspension since August 2010, so the mileage is at least 30,000 km. 2) Previously, the manufacturer offered more options for shock absorber stiffness than now. If now the suspension is divided into three conditional groups: comfort, medium hardness and sport, then in 2010, 9 options were offered - 3 comfort classes (1-the softest imaginable, 2-a little stiffer-but still soft and 3- a little more rigid, but still soft), 3 classes of medium-hard suspension and three classes of sport suspension with the same divisions. I have a set of medium hardness installed, but let’s say the third option is the hardest. I'm happy with the suspension. Some speak harshly, some like it, but they don’t ride
