With the arrival of a new designer, Englishman Steve Mattin, the former chief designer of Mercedes and Volvo, AvtoVAZ has a new design concept for the entire model range of the plant. X-design in all forms, on all external and internal panels. Everything so that the Lada brand is recognizable at first sight in any Tolyatti model.

The first X-cars were Lada X-Ray and Lada Vesta. The letter X can be seen everywhere on the sides on the front end. Now it has come to the ancient, like the skeletons of a mammoth, Kalina Granta cars. They were transformed. And the letter X appeared in the front end. Driving sensations
They are old, there is absolutely nothing new here. The Lada Granta remained on the old platform, which is structurally very old. The front suspension is on independent MacPherson struts, while the rear has a semi-independent beam. Handling and comfort, if I can say so about AvtoVAZ, are exactly the same as before.
In the basic configuration there is no amplifier, fortunately in the next version an electric one appears.
Another regret was the old drum brake system at the rear. Even in the top-end Drive Active configuration, which we will discuss separately, there will be drums.
For the sake of objectivity, we note that the sedan has become quieter, but vibrations and the hum of the box remain, which drown out all the supposed silence.
Hidden reserves
But it’s good that, in addition to design, at least some technical changes have occurred in the car. There is a new gearless power steering. This allows the steering wheel to be more sensitive and make the reaction to turning the steering wheel sharper and more understandable. With this, the reaction from the road should be felt better.

"Granta" is a noisy car. Everything around resonates. To somehow reduce the noise, fleecy fender liners were installed in the rear wheel arches. But this is unlikely to be to the taste of our motorists. They will throw them out and put in plastic ones. Because fleecy ones can come off from adhering dirt and snow.

Yes, it is precisely thanks to this point that the car is so popular. The basic package is sold for 455,900 rubles – is it attractive? Yes, but for this money the equipment will be as empty as possible, there won’t even be front windows. This is a frankly empty package for no clear purpose.
The maximum configuration of the Luxe Prestige on the robot costs 634,800 rubles, but the 98-horsepower engine on the automatic in the smaller version is 10 thousand more expensive, but the equipment will be worse. Luxe Prestige equipment:

People expected more! We don’t want to defend AvtoVAZ, but this is still a restyling, which has actually received a lot of minor changes. For the new generation this is really terrible, for the restyle it seems to be not bad. We don't like the pricing policy, but the changes to the exterior and interior are quite pleasant. Everything in the box
Three types of gearboxes are installed on Grants. Five-speed manual, four-speed classic automatic from the Japanese manufacturer Jatco and robotic. The latter is the same manual gearbox, only the clutch and gears are switched by an automatic transmission.

In the mechanics, the main pair with a gear ratio of 3.7 was changed to 3.9. They say that now the car will quickly start from a standstill. The acceleration dynamics will be like those of a sports car. Indeed, acceleration will improve. There will be less risk of burning the clutch somewhere in the mud. But the engine will twist at speeds already over a hundred. The roar and vibrations from the engine in the cabin will become more obvious.

We changed the algorithm and slightly the design of the robotic box. There were too many complaints about the previous version. It shifted slowly, jerked the car, the engine, and even broke down. Not movement, but torment.
They say everything has been fixed now. You turn on the drive, and the car, as with a normal automatic transmission, begins to pull. You need to keep your foot on the brake so it doesn't go away. Reduced gear shift time by 30%. We introduced a start mode on slippery surfaces from second gear. They also changed the clutch disc itself and installed it with other, more durable linings. Great. But they will just burn them in the start mode from second gear, even on a slippery surface.
Body weight
AvtoVAZ stopped production of Kalina and instead created the Granta hatchback. There's nothing wrong with that, just some future confusion. There are 5 body versions in the line, which is really a lot:
- sedan;
- hatchback;
- liftback;
- station wagon;
- Cross station wagon.
Dimensions of the Lada Granta sedan:
- length – 4268 mm;
- width – 1700 mm;
- height – 1500 mm;
- wheelbase – 2476 mm;
- ground clearance - 180 mm.
The length of the hatchback is 342 mm shorter, the liftback is 18 mm shorter. The station wagon has gained 38 mm in height, and the length is 150 mm shorter than the sedan. The Cross version is slightly longer than the station wagon and is 8 mm higher due to the ground clearance.
Surprisingly, the sedan is cheaper, although less metal is used in the hatchback, just like when the fifth Polo sedan was released.
Motors
The range of engines was transferred from Granta without changes. Two 1.6 liter petrol engines. The first eight-valve with 87 hp. Comes only with mechanics. The second 16-valve with a capacity of 98. Comes with Jatco manual and automatic transmission. A version of the same 16-valve, but more powerful engine with 106 “horses” is mated to a robotic gearbox and mechanics.

The combination is strange. Why, say, an eight-valve engine cannot be supplied with a Jatco automatic? Or shouldn’t the same box be attached to a 16-valve, 106-horsepower engine? So that unpopular robots can be accepted somehow? The buyer himself will determine what he needs. It is in vain that he is limited in his choice.
Clutch wear indicator
How to determine when to change the clutch? It is difficult to say definitely when exactly this needs to be done. Mileage is also not an indicator. Everything is very individual and depends on operating conditions and driver habits. However, the following indicators can serve as a guide. Look at the image below.
If the length of the cable is adjusted in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and the gap is 27 mm, but there is practically no free thread left on the threaded tip of the cable, this is a sure sign that the clutch is already “on its way.” You can start saving money and looking for a new set (basket, disc, release bearing). In some cases, it may be necessary to purchase an additional clutch fork.
