The front part is slightly different from the standard Lada Granta sedan. The front bumper has changed, it has a different slot. The rear bumper has changed a bit.

Front - Vesta, back - bride
From the nose to the A-pillar, all Grantas will be identical (except for the plastic trim on the Cross). Steve Mattin's team left no stone unturned from the previous style. Now the budget car is similar in appearance to the Vesta and boasts a chrome “mustache” that Lada fans liked so much. In addition, the shape of the front fenders and hood was changed in Togliatti. This was necessary so that there was room for updated optics and a different radiator grille. Even the angle of the “face” has been changed to make the car feel “more aggressive.”
Although the headlights changed their shape, the content was retained. The running lights, as before, have a separate block closer to the center of the car, and the direction indicators are placed at the edges. Fog lights in the style of Vesta are located at the bottom of the “X” that adorns the front of the Granta. In amateur renderings, designers always added stamping models on the sides, like the Lada Vesta. But in the production version, the 2022 Granta remained with a “clean” profile, which, by the way, pleased many motorists who criticized the sidewalls of Vesta.
The rear of the liftback remains virtually unchanged. The only thing that can be noted is the absence of the Lada logo - in its place it is now written LADA in large symbols. The hole to the right of the license plate has disappeared - the trunk can now be opened by pressing a modern button in the area of the license plate light bulbs. The electromechanical trunk lid button also went to the sedan, whose rear has changed more noticeably. The license plate was moved to a higher floor, which had a very good effect on the appearance of the car - now the trunk lid does not look so bulky.
Specifications
The engine capacity will start from 1.6 liters. This is the same lightweight piston engine that is installed on the Grant Sedan. Another engine option could be an engine like the Priora. The maximum configuration will include a new engine with 106 horsepower. The automatic will only have a power unit like the Priora. Almost nothing new under the hood.
The maximum configuration of the Lada Granta Liftback includes SAAB suspension and gas shock absorbers. The suspension will be energy-intensive. There will also be 15-inch wheels. There is sound insulation and sealing.
Why Granta and not Kalina?
Before combining two families into one, Tolyatti thought about what to call it. After all, people already know both names, and, in general, Kalina is even more harmonious than Granta. But, as AvtoVAZ research showed, customers had a more loyal attitude towards Granta, and sales of the sedan/liftback significantly exceeded the figures for the same-platform hatchback/station wagon. In general, it was decided to liquidate the Kalina family, which had existed for 14 years.
Now Lada Granta has the widest range among all AvtoVAZ families. Sedan, liftback, hatchback, station wagon, cross-station wagon - a large selection even by the standards of European models. But the new family is being introduced to the market in doses. First, the sedan and liftback debuted - it was with these bodies that Granta achieved success before restyling. The remaining models will be released a little later. This smart move will allow AvtoVAZ to draw the attention of the press to the modified Granta several times. Salon
The Lada Granta liftback is one of the most spacious VAZs, there is plenty of headroom. True, the floor is laid out sloppily. The steering wheel is only adjustable for tilt. There is a new gear shift knob. Cable drive, very convenient. Five-speed gearbox. Power windows and heater, no radio.
It's not that bad. Quite modest and cheap.
Cut headrests to save material. There is little room for knees in the back; it is difficult to fit a person at point-blank range. Everything is fine, there is even enough space above the heads of the rear passengers. It’s surprising that the bottom cushion of the seats is not so short; it’s quite comfortable to sit. There are fasteners for seat belts.
A “lift” for the driver’s seat has appeared
The interior has been completely redone, and now there are more similarities with Kalina. The instrument panel is minimalistic, and the readings from it are easy to read even from the corner of the eye. The speedometer is lined up to 200 km/h, but the “working” speed range is located in the first half. The on-board computer display has white indicators that are easy to read during the day and do not dazzle at night. The fuel level indicator, flow readings and coolant temperature are displayed there.
The keys on the center console with white backlight and the square air ducts of the heating system look more modern and neat compared to the rounded elements of its predecessor. Behind the gearshift lever, as before, there are two cup holders and buttons for heating the front seats (with one mode). There are no soft plastics, buttons on the steering wheel, adjustable column height or comfortable seats with a wide range of settings. In general, even in the top versions of Granta you will not forget that you bought one of the cheapest models on the market (from 14,120 rubles).
Among the pleasant moments, I would like to note the presence of a heated windshield, the appearance of height adjustment for the driver's seat, rear parking sensors, powerful air conditioning, a folding sofa in a 40/60 ratio and a not-so-crappy radio. Considering that the most expensive Granta costs less than $10 thousand at the exchange rate, this is a very good list.

Trunk
Unfortunately, there is no trunk release button. It opens either from the interior with a button or with a key. From the point of view of ease of loading, it is huge, there is a shelf. It is cut quite well and the material is not bad. The screws were painted black, they no longer shine. The shelf is covered with fabric, the quality is the same as on the Skoda Octavia. She even has clamps. She is also filming.
The trunk mat is covered with felt as a sound-proofing material. It rises and a niche with a full-fledged spare tire opens. The seats fold down, but the headrests need to be lowered before doing so. At the same time, move the front seats as far forward as possible.
The trunk is quite well made, the seals do not stick out anywhere, and there is no crooked cut anywhere. There is only one handle for closing, but it is not very convenient to use; you will have to hold on to the outside of the lid all the time.
The trunk size is 440 liters in the standard version, but if you fold the back row, the useful volume almost doubles.

The updated Lada Granta family has received the expected design changes in order to join the modern LADA X-face lineup. The main change in the restyled liftback is the shape of the front bumper in the new X-style, minimal changes in the interior and equipment. Lada Granda 2018-2019 has acquired a new front bumper with chrome X-inserts on the front bumper with an expanded air intake. What's wrong with the current Grant?
Grant engines have the basic design of the cylinder block of those very first VAZ front-wheel drive cars. The head of the eight-valve engine remains virtually unchanged. Neither hydraulic compensators nor even a reliable valve cover seal appeared. The manual transmission has also changed little since those ancient times. It is characterized by the same characteristic howling, associated with insufficient precision in the manufacture of gear pairs.
The worst situation is with the layout of the front suspension and steering. The current Granta does not have a subframe. Therefore, levers are attached to separate ears on the body, braces are attached separately, and brackets are attached separately to which the anti-roll bar is attached. The steering mechanism is also attached to the body panels. All this generates a high level of vibration and noise when driving. And driving is difficult. It was not economically feasible to eliminate all this in the current iteration of the Grant. It is much more profitable to simply take into account the listed disadvantages when developing a new generation model.
However, today's Grant also has shortcomings that could be eliminated without waiting for a generation change. For example, until now, despite all the improvements, including the appearance of ABS, you have to tighten the handbrake for safety reasons or before receiving a diagnostic card. Most foreign cars acquired a self-regulating handbrake drive back in the eighties. And the drive of the main brakes is not clear enough: choosing the right force on the brake pedal is sometimes difficult.

According to AvtoVAZ management, the new Grant model is equipped with gas-filled shock absorbers, which are paired with stiffer springs. They are designed to significantly improve the behavior of the car when passing various sections of the road.
These words are only half true. The liftback has indeed become more dynamic while moving, but a long test drive shows that these words are still far from expectations. First of all, it is worth noting the poor responsiveness of the steering wheel during light turns. When hitting bumps, vibrations, just like on the previous generation of the car, are noticeably transmitted into the steering wheel.
However, the car's movement has become smoother. This is largely due to the updated type of suspension - it has become quite rigid. At the same time, passengers feel a kickback into the cabin when overcoming uneven sections of the road, but this does not cause much discomfort, as it was before. In the most difficult conditions, the Lada Granta liftback showed great resilience and stayed stable on the road.
This is due not only to the improved suspension, but also to the upgraded braking system from TRW.
The car stops quickly, but not abruptly. Smooth braking is effective even if you press the pedal suddenly. This system gives the car additional stability and dynamism, which were sorely lacking in previous generations.
When climbing steep hills, the 106-horsepower engine handled the load quite confidently. The car's thrust increases after the 3 thousand rpm mark. A large test drive of a liftback with automatic transmission showed that the noise emitted by the engine is significantly lower than in a car with a manual transmission. At the same time, the gearbox from the Japanese company Jatco is devoid of squeaks and clangs that were encountered on other Grant models. Another change in the appearance of the front part will be noted only by experts: now the windshield washer nozzles have moved from the hood to the frill under the windshield. The nozzles themselves spray the liquid not pointwise, but over the entire surface of the glass. On one of the two test cars, however, the nozzle on the driver's side poured water in a strictly horizontal direction, but these are minor things. What was more frustrating was that technically nothing has changed here: the trapezoid of the windshield wipers is rather weak, and they move with play relative to each other, and the wiper still leaves a wide, uncleaned strip along the pillar, and not one, but several pedestrians can hide in the resulting blind spot.
First steps
In fact, attempts to introduce an “automatic machine” have been made for many years. Unfortunately, all of them ended in nothing due to the fact that they did not correspond to the given specifics: among the options that were considered, many transmissions were not structurally suitable, others were designed for high engine power, the rest were too expensive and would have resulted in an increase in the overall cost of the car. He who seeks will always find, and Lada found its salvation in the Japanese company Jatco. Although the company’s name is not well-known, it has been installing its four-speed “hydromechanics” on Nissan passenger cars for more than two decades and has managed to prove itself only from the best side.
If we talk about appearance, then overall the box is unremarkable. The only thing worth noting is the handle, which delivers tactile pleasure both in appearance and touch. The lever itself is not whimsical and even if, while driving, you completely accidentally move the selector from position “D” to “R”, the box will react as it should - engage reverse only after a complete stop.
