Antifreeze (antifreeze) is one of the most important components in a car, which is responsible for cooling the engine. Without this, the internal combustion engine simply will not be able to work normally due to ordinary boiling. Almost every driver will benefit from knowing how much antifreeze should be poured into the VAZ-2110, when it is recommended to replace it, and how to carry out all the work correctly. You will learn about all this from this article.
Timely maintenance of the car not only guarantees its stable operation, but also in some way extends the life of its important components. In the case of the engine and antifreeze, the situation is no different. It is interesting to note that the liquid in question in addition has a slight lubricating effect. This is why antifreeze is often used in some pumps.
Where is antifreeze poured in the car?
Each car uses its own cooling system, and where to fill the coolant may differ slightly from model to model, but in most cases there is a special reservoir in the engine compartment for filling the coolant. In some car models, antifreeze is poured directly into the radiator.

Antifreeze volume in the car
The first thing you need to know is how much antifreeze can be poured into a VAZ 2107 so that it works stably. For cars of brands such as VAZ 2101, 2105, 2106 and VAZ 2107, the volume of fluid is the same - 9.85 liters, it must be replaced every two years. Replacing antifreeze on a VAZ 2107 occurs in the following way:
- The first thing you need to pay attention to is the cooling system; if it is clogged, it needs to be washed with special products or water.
- Next, you need to take a spanner wrench and a container of at least ten liters to drain the old car fluid. It is very important that the radiator is cold when replacing, since antifreeze is a harmful substance, and when heated it also becomes very toxic.
The volume of coolant in a VAZ 2107 can reach up to ten liters. Antifreeze is suitable for the engine cooling system, as it prevents heat from entering the engine and cools the radiator. The cooled antifreeze is moved to the car engine using a pump. This process continues until engine operation stops. During operation, antifreeze heats up and loses its positive properties, so it must be changed periodically. The process of heating the antifreeze occurs when the car travels a distance of about 60 thousand kilometers.
How to drain antifreeze from a VAZ-2110 injector (16 valves)
Necessary tools and means:
- keys for 10 and 13;
- capacity for 8-10 liters (canister or bucket);
dry rag.
In order to drain the antifreeze, the VAZ-2110 (16 valves) needs to be driven onto an inspection hole or overpass. Further work is carried out in the following order:
- Disconnect the negative wire on the battery.
- We unscrew the plug on the expansion tank.
- We go down into the pit, use a 10mm wrench to unscrew the bolts securing the engine protection. We remove the protection.
- We unscrew the drain plug on the radiator, first placing a container under it. We wait until all the antifreeze in the heat exchanger drains.
- If in your car the gearbox is driven using a cable, before draining the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110, you will have to remove the starter. The drain plug is located directly below it. To do this, you need to disconnect the block of wires from the connector of the solenoid relay, remove the protective cap from the nut securing the positive wire, unscrew it, remove the wire, and then unscrew the three bolts securing the starter. After this, place a container under the plug, unscrew it and drain the coolant. If the gearbox is controlled by traction, there is no need to remove the starter.
Device diagram
To find out how many liters of liquid need to be poured, it is worth understanding what elements are used to cool the engine and how they interact with each other.
The main working element is the radiator. It is a flat metal shield with many cells. The radiator is designed to cool the heated liquid using air currents in order to re-flow it through the channels.
The radiator is connected through tubes to the cooling pump. At its core, it is a pump that is designed to transport liquid to the radiator. The pump has a belt drive and is connected to the flywheel via a belt drive.
From the pump, through the same pipe system, the liquid enters the engine cooling channels. Passing through them, the liquid takes on most of the temperature obtained during combustion of the fuel mixture and goes back to the radiator. There the water is cooled by an air flow, which is forced by a fan, and the cycle repeats.
It is worth noting that modern devices do not have the disadvantages that they struggled with a couple of decades ago. Thus, the liquids themselves have become non-freezing, and radiators, for example, are made of corrosion-resistant materials.
It is possible to fill only 5-6 liters. What to do?
Antifreeze is usually sold in 5-liter cans. To replace it, we need two pieces (the rest can be used “for topping up” so as not to be mixed with water on the eve of winter). But after draining the old fluid, the tank was filled to the maximum after the first canister. Don't panic - this is normal. The entire volume can be filled only after complete circulation of antifreeze in the system.
After filling it to the maximum level, start the engine and warm it up to operating temperatures. Then turn off and check the remaining antifreeze in the tank. In 99 percent of cases it will drop to a minimum (and perhaps even empty the tank completely). After this, we will restore the level with the remaining liters of liquid.
Leaks and problems
Cars of this model sometimes have problems associated with the failure of some parts of the cooling system, such as a thermostat or pump. If they break down, they are replaced as an assembly, fortunately they are not expensive. Also, leaking hoses or a cracked expansion tank are considered a common problem, which also needs to be replaced.
But there is another problem with the VAZ 2104, a leaking heater valve. Because of this, there may be a smell of antifreeze in the cabin, wet floor mats on the front passenger side, or the heater may not work.
In cases of boiling or seething antifreeze in the expansion tank, you need to pay attention to 2 things. This is either an air lock or a broken cylinder block gasket. When determining the problem, in the first case the stove will blow cold. In the second case, there will be either oil in the antifreeze or light smoke from the exhaust pipe.
Determining the quantity
Now that the cooling device and all its elements have been “taken apart,” it’s time to find out the capacity of the pipes and radiator and understand how much will have to be poured, and how much liquid will ultimately fit in. Obviously, in the end, the liquid must completely fill the radiator, engine cooling channels, pump and one more element, which was not accidentally mentioned in the previous section of the article.
Filling occurs in the so-called expansion tank, which, as a rule, is made of translucent plastic and has an indication of the minimum and maximum level. This tank is designed to ensure that when the temperature of the engine and the environment changes and the expansion of the filled liquid, the pressure does not increase to critical levels. So, when the engine is hot and this tank is opened, the liquid will rise sharply, which indicates high pressure.
You will have to pour from 7 to 15 liters of liquid, depending on the make and model of the car. So, on average, a VAZ can fit about 10 liters, while a truck can fit about 14.
The amount of liquid should be clarified in the technical documentation. This will help you avoid making mistakes when purchasing antifreeze for maintenance.
Red or green antifreeze, their differences
A friend from the Auto Store directly confirmed: only green. After searching, I still found differences.
I present a quote from one automotive site:
«Since antifreeze is an aggressive liquid, and especially its additives, they are designed for different metals. In simple words, if you have more copper, brass and their alloys, then you need the red version, and if you have more aluminum and its alloys, then you need the green one. Of course, you can also pour green into a brass radiator, but this is not very correct, it will oxidize the walls from the inside, then a coating will form that will prevent normal cooling of the engine. That’s why car manufacturers write in the specifications which one should be poured and where, red or green.

Since 10ka has aluminum radiators in the cooling system, we choose green antifreeze. I also read that red frieze was already poured into Grants and Largus in 12-13 years - well, they poured and filled, you can pour red - your car and you don’t have to deal with it...
