The Russian budget car Lada Largus is built on the VO platform and is the first joint project of the Renault-Nissan alliance and AvtoVAZ. In fact, the car is a copy of the first generation Renault/Dacia Logan MCV station wagon.
A car with a five-speed manual transmission began to be produced in 2012 in Togliatti. The model is available in three versions: a Largus F90 cargo van with solid rear and side panels, a 5- and 7-seater Largus R90 station wagon, and a Largus Cross.
Over the years, the car received various internal combustion engines, which have a number of design differences and unique characteristics. Next, we will look at which Largus engine was installed on this model in a given year, as well as what features, advantages and disadvantages different versions of power units have.
Engines Lada Largus
Since 2022, Renault engines have completely stopped being installed on Lada Largus station wagons. The K4M engine was replaced by the VAZ 21129 (16 valves). Two years earlier, in 2015, AvtoVAZ similarly abandoned the K7M engine in favor of the VAZ 11189 (8 valves).
The reason for the replacement is the cost of the motors. Domestic internal combustion engines are cheaper. But AvtoVAZ decided not to reduce the price of the Lada Largus, but to make the car more comfortable. The package includes athermal glass, a cabin air filter, a belt sensor, etc.
As part of the article, we will look at all 4 engines that were installed on the Lada Largus. K7M, K4M, VAZ 11189 and VAZ 21129.

The price of the LADA Largus with the new engine remained unchanged: the station wagon costs from 635,400 rubles, the van – from 609,800 rubles, the LADA Largus Cross version – from 689,900 rubles. This is the price of models without various discounts, with which the car will cost significantly less.
As for the features of Largus
with a power unit of 106 hp. (VAZ-21129), then about them is expanded.
The VAZ plant has been producing station wagons and vans of the Largus family since 2011. In 2014, the production of station wagons in the “Cross” body was launched. By that time, AvtoVAZ had localized the assembly of K4M engines, but not K7M, supplied by Renault.
The first of the two engines is equipped with 16 valves, and it became the basis for all trim levels of the crossover station wagon. It is this, and not the 8-valve K7M, although 8-valve internal combustion engines are more suitable for the SUV segment. In fact, the K7M engine is inferior to its 16-valve brother in both power and traction characteristics. And if the Lada Largus Cross engine had been 8-valve, neither the factory nor the buyer would have benefited from this. Let's look at the details.
Renault engines
The K7M (8 valves) and K4M (16 valves) engines are representatives of the same series. With timely maintenance, they show an excellent service life (over 400 thousand km). But if you skip maintenance, both engines can give you an unpleasant surprise. For example, both K7M and K4M bend valves when the timing belt breaks. Therefore, it is recommended to change the belt every 60 (or better yet, 50 thousand km).
More details about K7M (8 valves)
Initially, the eight-valve K7M had 86 hp. with a volume of 1.6 liters. But in 2010 it was modified to meet the Euro-4 standard, and it lost 3 horsepower.
K7M has a simple and reliable design. With timely care, it can travel up to 500 thousand km. You just need to change the timing belt, tension rollers on time and not skip maintenance.
Engine weaknesses:
K7M is a demanding engine with high fuel consumption and poor dynamics. 83 hp not enough for a comfortable ride in Lada Largus. The lack of horsepower is especially noticeable when driving outside the city.
More details about K4M (16 valves)
Improved version of K7M. Volume 1.6. liters and 102 hp It adopted the problems of the previous version - high fuel consumption and high maintenance requirements. But it boasts much better driving dynamics. Installed in the “Lux” configuration.
Engine weaknesses:
With timely maintenance, the engine, like the K7M, can travel more than 400 thousand km.
French engines K7M and K4M are obsolete, but they are still extremely reliable in operation. If a person is ready to put up with high fuel consumption and the need to regularly visit a car service center, the Lada Largus with such an engine will be an excellent choice.
If we compare only 2 Renault engines, then the K4M wins. It is more dynamic, more powerful and easier to maintain.
Reviews
Alexander Tatishchev, Yaroslavl, Comparison of Kalina and Largus with a 16-valve engine
I was lucky to be the owner of 2 cars of our production: Kalina 2 with an 8-valve engine and Largus with a new 16-valve engine. Well, like new - borrowed. Therefore, for fun, I decided to compare the 16 valve engine and the Largus with the VAZ engine and write a review about my feelings.
For your information! Kalina is also equipped with a VAZ 11189 engine with 8 valves.
I often drive Kalina fully loaded, since my professional occupation is construction. It happens that she has to carry half a ton. Well, Kalina on the 11189 engine with 8 valves is quite playful. Even when climbing, it is easy to overtake. Our engineers built an excellent 8 valve engine, in my opinion.
Largus will have a greater carrying capacity, but the weight of the car will also be greater. I even did a little tuning, but it doesn't help. The car does not drive stupidly, there is no agility even when empty. Therefore, the K4M engine in the Lada Largus with 16 valves does not deserve the most flattering reviews.
I'm seriously thinking about changing Largus to another car. You can even use Kalina, only newer.
Ivan Kulba, Lada Kalina 2 with VAZ 11189 engine, Nizhny Novgorod
For the last 2 years I have been driving Kalina 2. I live in a rural area, so I carry a lot of cargo, both domestic and for work. In general, the car is always loaded. I did not experience any problems during operation. From time to time it was necessary to adjust the valves at a company service center. Well, standard maintenance. I have driven 20 thousand in 2 years. I know that even if 11189 with 8 valves breaks down, its repair will not be expensive. I use semi-synthetic oil. My neighbor has a Lada Largus with a VAZ 11189 engine and his reviews are not so flattering. Once he let me drive in his empty car. Largus has no dynamics at all. I don’t even know how people tolerate such a dull throttle response. Perhaps the reworking of the engine to the Euro 5 standard had an effect, but the car should not lose so much in dynamics. It’s good that the amount of repairs, if anything, will be the same. But what about the 16 valve Largus? Repairs there will cost a pretty penny.
For your information! Simplicity of design is the main distinguishing feature of the VAZ 11189 engine, compared to a foreign-made 16-valve engine. If the latter breaks down, repairs will be significantly more expensive. True, the French engine is more modern than ours.
Nikolay the Last, Lada Largus 1.6 (105 hp) 2014, Ulyanovsk
In principle, the car is not bad, quite roomy. But there is one unpleasant feature. It’s as if the designers were in cahoots with the oil workers, or the engineers don’t know how to do calculations! The fact is that fuel consumption is 6 liters. 100 km outside the city can only be achieved at a speed of 60 km/h. But will there be anyone willing to plod along at such a snail’s pace? We have damaged roads, but not to the same extent. This car should have such consumption only at 90 km/h. Although the manufacturer claims that the 16-valve engine is economical, this does not turn out to be the case in practice. I don’t know what kind of engine chip tuning the Lada Largus needs to get a positive review. And the dynamics – it’s as if they don’t exist. When the air conditioning is turned on in the summer, the already slow car still loses its dynamics. As for the standard speed of 90 km/h, the engine has 8.5 liters per hundred. No good!
For your information! The air conditioning compressor is driven through a clutch from the engine and can eat up part of its power, which leads to increased fuel consumption.
Alexander Kisly, Lada Largus for 5 seats, 8-valve engine, Astrakhan
A new car is a good purchase. Anything better than an old foreign car. But after it, in my native Lada there are not enough useful little things in the cabin. You adapt to this. In principle, Largus is a good compromise between cost and quality.
As for the review of the Lada Largus VAZ 11189 engine, I am frightened by the high fuel consumption. The data differs somewhat from what the manufacturer claims. At a speed of 130 km/h on the highway, it produces as much as 10 liters per hundred. This is a bit much. But I didn’t load the car to capacity. What happens when it's fully loaded? Regarding the engine, it is worth noting that the 8-valve version is rather weak for Largus. This requires a more powerful motor. But according to rumors, even a 16-valve engine is not enough for dynamic driving.
VAZ engines
Both engines (VAZ 11189 and 21129) differ from their French predecessors in increased power, better traction at low speeds and reduced fuel consumption. Just like K7M and K4M, VAZ engines bend valves when the timing belt breaks. According to the regulations, the belt should be changed every 180 thousand km, but Lada Largus owners advise visiting a service every 60 thousand km.
More details about VAZ 11189 (8 valves)
The VAZ 11189 engine has 87 horsepower (K7M has 83 HP) and a maximum torque of 140 Nm (K7M has 124 Nm). It is a modified version of engine 11186 to meet Euro-4 standards.
In comparison with the French analogue, it has better traction at low speeds, maintains dynamics even under heavy load and runs “quieter”. This is achieved due to a lightweight connecting rod and piston group.
Strengths:
The engine runs on AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline. But car owners note that it is better to refuel the 95th. Driving on 92 gasoline increases fuel consumption and reduces acceleration dynamics.
Common problems with ICE 11189:
Most problems are explained by the refusal of scheduled maintenance. With timely maintenance and checking of sensors, the ICE 11189 operates stably and shows excellent results.
More details about VAZ 21129 (16 valves)
ICE 21129 – adaptation of the 21127 engine to Euro-5 standards. It was created for the Lada Vesta and X-ray models and has already stood the test of time.
Strengths:
Engine 21129, like 11189, can run on AI-92. But it is recommended to fill in 95 gasoline. At 92, fuel consumption increases and dynamics deteriorate.
Common problems with internal combustion engine 21129:
In the technical documentation for the car, the timing belt life is indicated as 180 thousand km. But it is better to change it every 60 thousand km. Even if the belt serves the specified period, which often does not happen, the idler pulley and water pump may jam. And if the timing belt 21129 breaks, the valve bends.
Briefly about the design of the Lada 21129 16 valve engine
The need to use EURO 5 class internal combustion engines on new Lada models forced the management of the AvtoVAZ concern to once again modernize its 1.6-liter 16-valve unit. Taking 21127 as a basis, the engineers changed the intake, clamped the exhaust, and filled it with new firmware.
Since the unit is now placed on a subframe, the supports and oil pan have been slightly redesigned. Adaptation has also been made for the installation of an alternative French JR5 gearbox.
Otherwise, it's a good old cast iron block with a lightweight SPG made by Federal Mogul. The power type here is a regular injector, a timing belt drive with an automatic tensioner, the cylinder head has hydraulic compensators, and the intake system is regulated by flaps.
Ladnaya Mekhanika spoke about new technologies in the domestic engine industry.
Which engines are better? VAZ or Renault?
Domestic engines are superior to their French predecessors. Cars with VAZ engines accelerate faster, pull better at low speeds, are quieter and have lower fuel consumption.
Both domestic engines installed on the Lada Largus are modifications of older models. They have already stood the test of time and proven their competitiveness. Thanks to the reduction in the cost of engines, AvtoVAZ added to the car's equipment - athermal glass was added, an improved vacuum brake booster, the windshield wiper mechanism was changed, additional sensors appeared, etc. The car became more comfortable, but the price remained the same.
VAZ 11189 and 21129 have an important advantage. Spare parts for them are cheaper than for French engines. All internal combustion engines installed on Largus require careful maintenance and monitoring, but driving a car with a domestic engine is cheaper.
To make the price of spare parts and service even cheaper, order them from Largus Shop with free delivery. We regularly hold promotions and give discounts to regular customers.

general information
The Lada Largus station wagon first appeared on sale in 2012. It is available in two versions - for transporting passengers or cargo. Car enthusiasts are more interested in the passenger version, which, according to the manufacturer’s idea, can accommodate 5 or 7 people. When developing this model, special attention was paid to such characteristics as:
The engines for this car were manufactured by the Renault concern, each of them is designed for use in the Russian climate. Any engine installed on a Lada Largus car can be used in the following conditions:
Similar engines are installed on adapted Renault and Nissan models. Regardless of the valve system, the Lada engine has a volume of 1.6 liters and an electronically controlled distributed fuel injection system. The engines are paired with a manual transmission, since the manufacturer decided not to use automatic transmission on the Lada Largus.
Another feature from the domestic manufacturer was the use of only gasoline units operating on the AI-95 brand. AvtoVAZ specialists explained this by the fact that despite the lower cost of diesel fuel, the assembly and maintenance of diesel engines will cost more. Insignificant savings on fuel are not beneficial for either producers or consumers. In terms of environmental friendliness, joint production with Renault-Nissan allowed Largus to pass testing for compliance with the Euro-4 standard.
The manufacturer has set a service life of 160 thousand kilometers for any engine of this car. After this mark, you may need major repairs, but with proper care, the Lada Largus can easily travel much longer without stopping. Moreover, the data sheets indicate different numbers for each engine.
Behavior
The driving performance of the long Renault is not much different from the regular Logan. The higher center of gravity and increased payload seem to have raised concerns about road manners. Therefore, Largus received a tighter suspension on the rear axle. The body doesn't roll much when cornering.
The long wheelbase affected directional stability. The station wagon is reluctant to change direction.
Large ground clearance (170 mm) and suspension travel allow Largus not to be afraid of the worst roads. In the Largus Cross version, the ground clearance has increased to 195 mm.
Eight-valve K7M 800
The Lada Largus model borrowed this engine from Renault Logan and Sandero. They are absolutely identical. For the first time, this unit began to be installed on the above-mentioned foreign cars in 2010, then it was a little more powerful, but due to certification according to the Euro-4 standard, its design was revised. The engine lost three horsepower, and its power became 83.
A positive point about the eight-valve unit is that its service life, according to data from the manufacturer (Renault), is more than 400 thousand kilometers. The disadvantages of this engine can be noted based on the experience of using it not only on the Lada Largus, but also on the Logan:
Lada Largus is a fairly heavy car, and the eight-valve unit does not always “pull”. Not a single motorist has already noted this drawback. It is most difficult to use this engine when moving in yards. The lack of power is clearly noticeable when starting to move.
For Russia, the big advantage of such engines is that they are very undemanding in terms of fuel. Of course, you shouldn’t constantly refuel in dubious places, but the unit will not malfunction if you use low-quality fuel several times.
Summing up
The presented reviews about the main Largus engines - the 8-valve VAZ 11189 and the foreign 16-valve engine - indicate that for full-fledged dynamics the car needs a slightly more powerful engine. Perhaps the engineers intended a calm and obedient car, but in reality it turned out to be very sluggish.
The weakness of the engines, even the 16-valve version, is evidenced by the fact that they consume fuel a little more than stated. Almost everyone complains about this. For comparison, you can take Kalina 2 from the first review with the same 8-valve engine. According to the user, he walks confidently and dynamically, which Largus lacks.
You can apply tuning to both engines, but this is an additional cost. In addition, the warranty on a new car will be void. It’s easier to buy another car and not have to worry about it. Although some people like to tinker with hardware. The 8-valve engine can be throttled from environmental control, and the 16-valve engine, in general, has wide chip tuning capabilities that allow you to increase the power to 150 hp. With.
For a long period, AvtoVAZ had a difficult goal - to create a car that was balanced in terms of consumer qualities. The desire boiled down to the idea of producing a “workhorse” that would be equally well suited not only for family use, but also demonstrate sufficient efficiency in the logistics business.
At the first stage of implementation of the concept, the interaction of Tolyatti residents with the European giant Renault was traced. Thanks to this collaboration, the universal Lada Largus model was born, which was built on the Logan base. Many people are interested in what engines are installed on these versions? The platform was chosen correctly, and turned out to be so successful that it is still used to build various models, such as Duster, Sandero, as well as the Nissan family of small cars.
Sixteen-valve K4M
If you are thinking which unit is better for Largus, then you should carefully consider the option with sixteen valves. It is more complex, so the cost of a car equipped with such an engine will be slightly higher. Servicing a sixteen-valve engine will also cost you a lot of money, but at the same time you can easily drive over 450 thousand kilometers on it. It is only important to take care of it, listen to the advice of experts at the service station, change components on time and not put too much load on it.
If we compare the two engines, then, undoubtedly, the K4M is more profitable, since it does not require frequent valve adjustments. Its disadvantages are not as significant as those of the eight-valve K7M.
Which unit is better to choose?
If you want to buy a Largus, then you should buy a luxury package or a seven-door model, since in this case under the hood you will have a more reliable and modern engine model with sixteen valves. This is a more practical option, suitable both for traveling in big cities with a lot of traffic jams, and for driving on the highway.
These K4M engines are produced in Russia (marked P) and in Spain (marked with the letter D in the serial number). Despite the large number of jokes about the domestic automobile industry, the build quality of the Russian unit is in no way inferior to the Spanish one. Changes in the operation of the production line have led to the fact that motors produced from the domestic assembly line absolutely meet international standards. This was also noted by Francois Goujon, who is the head of.
Largus with a sixteen-valve engine successfully completed test drives. The only caveat was using the car in the summer, when the engine can withstand the load from the air conditioner on. At low speeds the car moves with some effort, while when accelerating over 90 kilometers per hour this disadvantage ceases to be felt.

Choice of 1.6 liter engine. 8 or 16 valve
On a medium-loaded 8-valve car, 3200 rpm at 120 km/h is a pipe dream for the owners of 16 valves. You talk to passengers without raising your voice, the noise is mainly from tire studs. It’s easy, by the way, to accelerate further. I’m afraid to think what will happen after the break-in and chips.
We kindly ask you to tell us in more detail how the standard behaves with an 8-cl engine.
A lot is written about suites, but there are practically no reviews about the standards.
The norm is preferable because the air conditioner is completely unnecessary (power steering too, if it were possible, I would also remove it right away).
I am mainly interested in driving on the highway, from 90 to 110 a loaded and not very loaded car (on a flat road, uphill, overtaking up to 130. 140) - what gears, what speed is obtained, etc.
Your feelings are especially important - at what point does it begin to feel like the car is running with tension (does this even exist, or is it just a fairy tale?)
What engine for Lada Largus (choose the best)
Depending on the year of manufacture, the Largus may be equipped with a Renault or VAZ engine. Currently, only domestic engines are installed on this car. Let's take a closer look at the technical characteristics of Lada Largus engines, as well as the features of their assembly.
Both are Renault Alliance engines. Since December 2015, AVTOVAZ began installing its 8-valve VAZ-11189 engine. You can get acquainted with its pros and cons from this review.
Both engines from Renault-Nissan are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. At the moment, AVTOVAZ does not plan to equip the Lada Largus with an automatic transmission.
Lada Largus engines are distinguished by high elasticity, and the manual gearbox is distinguished by precise gear shifting. For dynamic acceleration and confident overtaking, the engine power is quite enough. Both Lada Largus engines comply with Euro 4 environmental requirements.
Depending on the vehicle configuration, there are several options for installing auxiliary equipment on the engine:
Description
The new LADA Largus VAZ 11189 engine completes the line of VAZ power units: 21083 - 21114 - 21116 - 11186.
Structurally, it is the same in-line injection 4-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft. The SONC timing belt is driven by a timing belt.
Among the disadvantages of the Lada Largus engine, professionals note a decrease in engine life to 200,000 km, as well as the fact that if the timing belt breaks, the engine bends the valve.
During the modernization process, the engine received:
- lightweight connecting rod and piston group;
- automatic timing belt tensioner;
- piston cooling nozzles;
- new generation electronic throttle body;
- metal cylinder head gasket;
- modern catalytic converter;
- new resonator-noise absorber at the intake.
The changes made allowed:
- Increase vibroacoustic parameters.
- Increase power.
- Bring environmental performance to the level of EURO-5 standard.
- Reduce fuel consumption.

Lada Largus: Russian Renault or Lada with French roots?
Yuri Gladchuk made the most of his “test days” under the heading “Travel Diary”: he not only skated the Lada Largus provided for testing in all modes, but also compared it with potential competitors, including those of comparable price “ second hand."
The idea is really good: make a simple, cheap and spacious car. The VAZ team succeeded - this is evidenced by the long queues for this car in Russia. And for good reason: the car has high ground clearance, a reliable design, an “armor-piercing” suspension, and as a pleasant bonus there is a steel crankcase protection and a powerful battery. But there is always a fly in the ointment. Although this is not even a spoon, but a hefty scoop, because the comfort is just like in a tank: the engine roars, you reach 100 km/h - you can stop your ears from the howl of the engine and transmission. The interior finish is mediocre, the seating position is uncomfortable.
To be honest, I would forgive everything, but not the seating position: it’s uncomfortable to sit, your back or neck gets tired - your choice depends on the position of the backrest. There are not enough adjustments, the chair digs into your back. Although with such a price and practicality you turn a blind eye to all this.
What you like is when you look under the hood. No TSI, TFSI or other scary BiTDI for you - everything is simple: an old 1.6-liter eight-valve petrol engine plus a 5-speed manual gearbox. Simple, reliable and travels 400,000 km without any problems. For example, in a taxi. There are only two powertrain options: both petrol, both 1.6, distributor injection everywhere. There are no phase regulators. The engines have not yet been localized: the 16-valve K4M is imported from Spain, and the simpler 8-valve K7M from Romania. The first one is promised to be localized soon. K7M develops 90 hp. at 5500 rpm, and the maximum torque is 128 Nm at 3000 rpm. For K4M these figures are 105 hp. at 5750 rpm and 148 Nm at 3750 rpm. Both engines meet Euro-4 standards and are designed for gasoline with an octane rating of 95. What is strange is that the 64 kW of the eight-valve engine indicated in the technical characteristics table is 87, not 90 hp. AvtoVAZ apparently decided to round the numbers in its favor. Which motor do you prefer? Choose for yourself: the 8-valve is simpler, but lacks traction, the 16-valve is more complicated, but the dynamics are much better. Personally, I would prefer the second one, because the eight-valve engine doesn’t work. In general, everything under the hood is accessible and repairable, the design has been tested since the late 90s - the flight is normal.
There is a hole in the metal crankcase protection for a drain plug - there is no need to remove the protection. But the oil filter is located inconveniently - it’s easy to get burned on the exhaust manifold, the filter sits deep.
The Largus has a simple suspension: a beam at the rear, a McPherson strut at the front. There are no problems with her. Unlike Logan, the front arms are strengthened and the wheel bearing protection from dirt is improved. Dirt guards are by no means superfluous - claims have been made regarding the protection of wheel bearings from dust and sand. The levers are stamped from a sheet with a thickness of not 2.5, but 3 mm. Well, everything else remains the same. After 100 thousand km, the boots of CV joints need an eye and an eye; the CV joint is replaced as an assembly with axle shafts. The design does not provide for replacing the ball joint separately from the lever. But with us all this is possible - they can be changed separately.
By the way, after the Russian tests, AvtoVAZ chose the largest brake discs available for the Logan configuration. An empty car brakes well. But there are drum brakes at the back, and the car will be loaded - I would like to see discs there too. Interestingly, there are brake drum cooling fins.
Discussions arise about the ground clearance of this car. Compared to Logan, Largus has higher ground clearance. The manufacturer indicates 145 mm when fully loaded. But what is the ground clearance in an empty Largus? We got 240 mm to the lower edge of the sills and 180 mm to the engine crankcase protection and rear beam.
The Nissan Juke crossover, for example, also has 180 mm. Single-wheel drive SUVs are widespread on our roads; why is Largus not a crossover? And the suspension of the Russian car is more energy-intensive than that of the same Juke.
Largus also expanded the “waterline” of the anti-gravel coating by 70 mm, improving protection against sandblasting. The wheel arches have received plastic protection.
The volume of anti-corrosion mastic applied to the bottom is increased by one and a half times compared to Logan.
The crankcase and brake line protection are made of thick sheet steel. There are ventilation holes in the engine protection.
To sum up the technical part, we can say that the car is 100% prepared for our conditions. Simple and robust, it is designed for long-term use in difficult road conditions. Maintainability is excellent, the simple design is as old as time - you can take it and drive it. Ride happily ever after, albeit without comfort. What will my brother say, who recently almost bought this car?
If you remember, we were looking for a gasoline station wagon for him for $14,000. Alexander urgently needed the car for work - periodically transporting walk-behind tractors and generators. On the last day, the choice was reduced to two options: buy a five-year-old KIA Cee`d still under warranty or a new Lada Largus. The choice was not easy, but my brother chose a Korean car. Now he has an excellent opportunity to more carefully study the new product of the Russian automobile industry.
- Well, she’s stupid, this Lada with an eight-valve valve! The 126-horsepower 1.6-liter engine of the KIA Cee`d is not a “light” - you need to “twist” it, but compared to the Largus it is heaven and earth. And my consumption is much less. The Lada badge doesn’t bother me - what bothers me is the complete lack of comfort and poor build quality: there is no sound insulation, the engine roars, the plastic rattles, it’s uncomfortable to sit. There is no design either.
If you needed a car only for work, then I would think again - the price and practicality are attractive. But I chose a car for my family, for work, and for every day. And I load a maximum of 150 kilograms - that’s not much. Although I feel sorry for Cee`d - I have to scratch the finish with the weight.
And in terms of luggage compartment size, my “Korean” is not that inferior. For example, in terms of the length of the trunk with the seat folded, the KIA even wins: 190 centimeters versus 170 for the Largus! And it doesn’t have any steps, but here it does.
But the Cee`d multi-link rear suspension is more expensive to maintain. A beam is still preferable for work. Although in my case the “multi-lever” will work - I load a little. Interestingly, according to the documents, the “Korean” can be loaded with 70 kilos more. And look how thick the springs are.
The clearance of the Lada is good - 180 millimeters, but the 150 clearance of the KIA is enough for me. In winter, even in the Mazda 323, I never got stuck anywhere.
I like the interior of KIA. The design is nice, sitting comfortably. Noise insulation is also not so great, but compared to Largus, it’s simply quiet.
No, I don’t regret not buying a new Lada. Yes, it’s cheap and practical, but a used Cee`d in good condition is better - I’m happy...
Although I would not be so categorical: we found the KIA Cee`d in very good condition, with a real mileage of 100 thousand km and a full service history. My brother took it for diagnostics - everything is fine. I changed the oil and now it drives without problems. With used cars, depending on your luck. A new "state car" or a good "used" car is a difficult choice. Would I buy a Largus or would I prefer something with mileage? Most likely, I would choose the second one. I’m not a practitioner - I’m a lyricist: give me a car with all your heart. But I highly recommend Lada Largus to practitioners. Yuri GLADCHUK Photo by the author and Gleb MALOFEEV ABW.BY Waybill
(-) The lambda probe is located in an area exposed to adverse environmental factors. The exhaust system does not have detachable connections. The pipe itself has red spots.
(+) There are marks on the inside of the fuse box cover indicating their location. Are there any spare fuses.
(-) The gaps in places are such that a finger can fit through, and the instrument panel cover hangs loose. Does manual labor widely used in production have an effect?
(+) Access to the steering rack is good. Steering is of the rack-and-pinion type, hydraulic power assisted.
(-) There are no sound insulation materials on the inside of the hood. But in vain - the engine is already very loud. Acoustic comfort in this car is lacking as a class.
(+) The battery is powerful - 70 Ah! In winter there will be no problems starting the engine.
(-) The gas tank cap does not have a lock. Logan had them, but the design turned out to be unreliable - the lock was removed. However, “feeding” the eight-valve engine with 95-octane gasoline is, in my opinion, unnecessary.
(+) Rear hinged doors of unequal width. Using a convenient handle, you can release the lock and open the doors 180 degrees. Scheme of localized components for Lada Largus:
Pricing On the Belarusian market, the new Lada Largus is offered with only one 1.6-liter gasoline engine, in three trim levels, as well as in several versions - a van, a 5- and 7-seater station wagon. The most affordable Largus is a “silent” two-seater van costing from 102 million Belarusian rubles. Its equipment includes an immobilizer, driver and passenger front airbags, steering wheel height adjustment, and power steering. The passenger 5-seater version “Standard” already costs from 110 million rubles; in addition to all of the above, central locking has been added to its equipment. The top version “Lux” with a seven-seater cabin is priced at 135 million Belarusian rubles.

Description of the K7M engine (Renault Logan/Sandero/Largus)
In 2010, the K7M 800 engine appeared, which replaced the K7M 710. No design changes occurred, except that the engine was strangled, bringing it up to the Euro-4 environmental standard, while the power decreased from 86 hp to 83 hp. With.
The disadvantages of the engine remain the same:
If you look at the engine from the positive side, it is worth noting its high reliability; according to the passport, the engine life is about 400 thousand km, but in practice it is a little more.
Maintenance
Maintenance of the VAZ 11189 engine is no different from the standard maintenance of similar VAZ engines.
It includes:
- change the oil every 15,000 km, but at least once a year. In this case, you will need to fill in at least 3.2 liters of oil;
- checking and, if necessary, replacing spark plugs at every oil change;
- periodic inspection of the engine to detect leaks of engine and transmission oil, as well as coolant. If any defects are identified, they must be promptly eliminated;
- replacing the drive belt after a mileage of 45...60 thousand km.
Whose engine is Lada Largus
Previously, engines for Lada Largus came assembled from the Renault plant in Spain, but recently engines of the K4M series (16 valves, 105 hp) began to be assembled at AVTOVAZ. According to the director of the Power Units project, Francois Goujon, the quality of engines assembled at AVTOVAZ corresponds to the world level.
The AVTOVAZ press service assures that a quality system is used in the production of new engines to ensure that products comply with the international standards of the alliance. In addition to personnel training, it includes control on the production line, during which each assembled engine is tested in different modes on a special stand. The technology also provides for a weekly check, when one of the motors is completely disassembled and the quality of its assembly is analyzed.
Engines for Largus
The body is a body, but the car must be driven by something. The manufacturer did not reinvent the wheel and installed engines from Logan on Largus:
- K7M with 8 valves - 86 hp;
- K4M with 16 valves - 105 hp.
But, there is a domestic development, the engine from Vesta - VAZ 11189. It is also installed on Largus. In fact, this is an engine from Granta, only converted to Euro 5 standards.
We are interested in the last 2 engines: the French one with 16 valves and ours with 8 valves. It’s interesting to know what reviews car enthusiasts write about Largus with a VAZ engine. And of course, compare them with reviews of a foreign-made 16-valve engine.
There is enough information on the network for both engine models. Reviews are also welcome. Experienced owners of Largus are ready to share their opinions and for this you do not need to go through a lot of sites on the Internet. Everything interesting is collected below.
About the domestic VAZ 11189 engine
In April 2016, AVTOVAZ began installing domestic VAZ 11189 engines on Largus. The advantages of this engine are described in one of the issues of “Okay Mechanics”.

Lada Largus fuel consumption 8, 16 valve engines
In the middle of the year, the Lada Largus series car was presented to the public. The production of this model is a joint project between VAZ and Renault. Thus, the release of 70 thousand copies was initially planned. According to its concept, Largus is a version of the Dacia Logan car, adapted for Russia, produced in Romania since 2006. There are three versions of the Lada Largus, which is produced today: a station wagon (R90), a station wagon with increased capacity and a cargo van (F90).
Lada Larugs 1.6 MT 84 hp
Fuel consumption rate per 100 km
In 2008, AvtoVAZ bought a license to produce Renault engines. At the same time, the rights to produce cars from a French automaker called Lada were acquired. Under the hood of the Lada Largus there is a 1.6-liter power unit. It has eight valves and a power of 84 horsepower. This engine is one of three in the line of power units and is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. The maximum speed that such an engine can reach is 156 km/h. At the same time, its fuel consumption is 12.3 liters in the urban cycle and 7.5 liters on the highway.
Real gas consumption
- Sergey, Moscow. Lada (VAZ) Largus 1.6 MT. I am happy with the car. Just a monster compared to the VAZ 2115 that I owned before. I like the fact that it is very roomy, you can carry anything in the trunk. The only downside is that the wheelbase is long, it’s hard to drive over hillocks. At speeds over 80 km/h, the transmission begins to make a terrible noise. Consumption is 12.5 liters in the city and 8 liters on the highway.
- Julia, Kyiv. The car is ideal for transporting goods. Also very good for traveling with the family. At 30 thousand km, I noticed that the engine power began to drop. The service center changed the cuff and everything seemed to be fine. Fuel consumption in the summer on the 92nd is 9 liters, in the winter about 10 liters. I have a new Largus of the year with a 1.6 MT engine.
- Nikolay, Vologda. I have already driven 12,000 km in my brand new Lada Largus. Overall the car is not bad, but there are some disadvantages. After 8 thousand, reverse gear began to shift poorly. The trunk floor is uneven and the seats do not recline well. The onboard consumption of the 1.6 MT engine shows about 12.5 liters in the city and 8 liters on the highway. The positive thing is that there is high ground clearance and good suspension.
- Sergey, Tomsk. Lada (VAZ) Largus 1.6 MT. I took the car last year. During all this time I drove it mainly to work. Constantly carried cargo. After 11,000 km I'm still happy with the car. For such a price there are simply no shortcomings. Although in the first days of operation several fuses burned out and I don’t know why. Consumption is about 9.5-10 liters per 100 km.
- Victor, Kursk. After owning a six and an eight, I was surprised that the Lada Largus is a domestic car. I was very pleased with the purchase. For driving in rural areas - just what you need. Consumption is 9.5 liters per 100 km. The main drawback is the large gaps in the doors, because of this the cabin is constantly full of dust. Engine 1.6 MT, model of the year.
