43,000 km. The headlight unit was replaced under warranty. I suppose it was my own fault - I didn’t notice the post, it crushed the wing, it pulled the headlight mount, so it depressurized. I can't find any other explanation. A squeaking clutch pedal can be treated by lubricating the rubbing parts in the passenger compartment and in the engine compartment. The rust on the frame does not spread further - it has rubbed off on the rubber. The paint no longer rubs. The generator tensioner pulley was replaced under warranty because... I didn't like the sound when it was cold.
I used a Lada Granta with automatic transmission for three years until problems started. First the fuel pump, then the lambda probe. Now it’s not at all clear what’s going on with the train. Shows the error of the first lambda probe. We remove the error. We start the auto check, no errors are on. After the replacement I drove 150 km. Doesn't hold speed and stalls. When starting off, it's as if someone is holding you by the tail. And for more than three years there were no problems. The machine has completed 35,000 miles. The car has already traveled 30,000 km. Of the shortcomings attributed to Grant, I only agree with: 1. the appearance of rust in the upper part of the frame, because it constantly rubs against the seal, erasing the paintwork, which is less than a millimeter wide. At the same time, the zinc coating layer is not touched, but there are only pinpoint areas of corrosion, less than a millimeter in diameter. This problem was found only on the rear left door; on the other doors the paintwork was not damaged. 2. The clutch pedal squeaks. 3. The front left headlight unit is sweating. Today, these are all the shortcomings that appeared at 30,000 km.
More modern
The Granta update is immediately noticeable when viewed from the front, but from other angles and in the interior, the results of the work done are not so obvious. There are many differences, although everything was done with little blood. For example, they didn’t spend money on a new dashboard - they took it from the discontinued Kalina with minimal modifications.

The instrument cluster has been updated to match the latest Lada innovations. Granta now has radial digitization and orange accents. The old-fashioned display with a green background has given way to stylish black and white. The interior lighting is LED, and the lampshade is combined with an emergency call button. They didn’t even forget about the seat upholstery - it now has a different pattern. Like many other cars, the Lada Granta has its weaknesses, which are commonly called “diseases”. Some “diseases” will not keep you waiting long and will manifest themselves already during the first time of operation, while others will make themselves felt only after a more or less high mileage. Some of the problems were recognized by the manufacturer and can be fixed in the showrooms of official dealers, while the other part will have to be resolved independently.
Approximately half of the cars sold after a short mileage upset their owners with a generator breakdown. Repairing the original part will solve the problem only temporarily, so it’s worth installing a generator from Kalina.
The second problem is a broken thermostat. As a result, in winter the engine does not warm up above 70 degrees, or at a temperature of even 100 degrees the fan does not work. The solution is to replace the thermostat with an analogue from the VAZ 21082 or from Kalina.
At idle speed, engine vibration is felt in the cabin. This problem is not officially recognized, and therefore the solution is to stretch the mounting pads.
Strongly overtightened pipes under the hood begin to crack after a while where the clamp is tightened. You can save the situation by loosening the clamps.
The howling in the gearbox, the tight movement of the handle and its freezing in cold weather are one of the unpleasant surprises that Granta presents to its owners. Hard plastic in the cabin is far from the best design solution for a modern car, but at least you can put up with it due to the lack of squeaking. Another problem bothers us here - the creaking of the ceiling cladding, which most often manifests itself at negative air temperatures. Also, owners of Lada Granta complain about cracking at the top of the windshield or rear window, interior light and poor sound insulation. There is no official solution to the problem yet, so you will have to either change the casing and improve sound insulation, or turn on the music louder. The on-board computer does not always display data on instantaneous fuel consumption, which is one of its main tasks. The glove box lid sometimes opens if you close it before the first louder click. Therefore, it must be closed until the second quiet click. Another annoyance is the very weak round knobs for adjusting the angle of the backrest of the front seats. If possible, they should be touched less or done more carefully.

Today, the domestic model Lada Granta is a sales leader. Every year it becomes more and more popular, in demand and interesting to a wide audience, because the car was created using completely new technology, using original design solutions. Engineers have finally begun to move away from the outdated, established stereotypes of automotive design. The result of this search was Granta.
So, at the beginning of the 2000s, the AvtoVAZ plant reminded itself of itself with a good Lada Kalina project. Of course, this car still needed serious improvements and adjustments. But nevertheless, already from this car, new trends in the work of the enterprise emerged, which the press was quick to report and both critics and ordinary car enthusiasts noted. Now the plant management decided to continue the work line that had been started; the next project was to be even more daring, non-standard, combining such qualities as aesthetics, dynamics, comfort and low price.
Initially, the name of the new model was given a lot of words, Low Cost, which translated from English means “low price”. But later it was decided to replace this name with something more sonorous and bright. So, having selected one, Grant, from hundreds of thousands of items, AvtoVAZ began to establish serial production. In 2009, our compatriots saw the first copies of the Lada Grant.
Of course, she was strikingly different from Kalina, and even more so from previous projects. There was no longer that laconic modesty inherent in domestic developments; this car attracted attention with its alluring, elegant forms, an abundance of extraordinary design solutions, and an excellent technical component. It was no longer a shame to show such a car to a global audience, which is what they did.
Granta Sport has repeatedly performed at major international competitions, taking prestigious places. This is how AvtoVAZ’s new idea debuted. But, in addition to the undeniable advantages, there are also flaws in Grant. Here and there there are annoying breakdowns, reminding us that we still have a domestic car in front of us, which is not fully thought out and is still far from ideal.

Until recently, we believed that it would be naive to count on something “designer” in the most affordable segment. Steve Mattin buried this stereotype with his Vesta and Xray. Grant was painted before he came to AVTOVAZ, and now the eminent artist has improved the appearance of the car as best he can.
For my taste, it turned out great. Nowadays, not everyone can distinguish a full-face Granta from a Vesta, which is one and a half times more expensive.
The main thing is that the “boomerangs” do not lose their presentation by the third or fourth winter. So far, Togliatti residents, alas, have problems with the quality of chrome elements.
The style of the stern was radically revised only in the sedan. He needed this more than other body types. Moving the niche for the license plate from the bumper to the trunk lid freed the rear from visual heaviness. There was no need to even change the shape of the lights: the Granta sedan became more harmonious.

From the first generation to the last, the Lada Granta cannot please with its ideal quality and reliability parameters. More practical
Granta always had everything in order when it came to practicality. Crossover ground clearance, low maintenance costs, a good range of available options - the car retained all these virtues after the update.
A useful addition was the seal along the leading edge of the hood. It is designed to reduce the amount of dirt falling from the road onto the units. Looking at the editorial Grant with a mileage of over 100,000 km, I confidently say: modernization is necessary!
And replacing the dashboard gave the driver an additional glove compartment. A small box with a lid is located centrally under the windshield. The old car had an open niche there. Things from it tried to “escape” at turns, and it was dangerous to keep something more or less valuable in front of everyone.
Care and prevention
The first malfunctions of the Lada Grant visit the car owner after the first three thousand mileage. Further problems grow like a snowball, so it is better to arm yourself in advance with a powerful arsenal of repair equipment, preparing everything that may be useful in the near future. As already noted, the generator of this model is not the most ideal. But everything is not so bad, you just need to do a routine examination on time and carry out preventive measures. In order to assess the operating condition of the generator, you must do the following.
Lift the hood and see if the alternator belt is tensioned correctly. If it easily rotates 90 degrees, then everything is fine, if not, then you need to adjust it. If the tension is excessive, loosen it a little; if the tension is weak, on the contrary, tighten it. Strong belt tension can lead to wear of the bearings, and then breakdown of the generator itself. There are two ways to adjust the belt.
- By manually adjusting the fastening bolt, which is very inconvenient.
- By installing a belt tension device on the Lada. On many imported cars, such a mechanism is installed initially, which eliminates the need to spend time on such a small, but still such an important procedure. Domestic manufacturers have not yet reached such perfect technology.
