List of main malfunctions of the VAZ-2106 stove and methods for solving them if the stove does not heat well

At the time of writing this post, it is February. And the problem with the stove is now very relevant for many VAZ 2106 owners. Some drivers prefer not to pay much attention to the fact that the stove does not heat well. And they try to hold out until the onset of spring. Many try their best to find faults in the interior heating system so as not to freeze in the car.

For both some and others, the information below can be very useful if the stove on your car begins to heat poorly. Well, or it stopped working altogether. I experienced the following malfunctions from personal experience. Both during the ownership of the VAZ 2106 and other Zhiguli models.

The stove does not heat well: the main reasons

At the time of writing this post, it is February and the problem with the stove is now very relevant for many VAZ 2106 owners. Some drivers prefer not to pay much attention to this and try to wait until spring. And many people try their best to find faults in the interior heating system so as not to freeze in the car. For both some and others, the information below can be very useful if the stove on your car begins to heat poorly or stops working altogether. I experienced the following malfunctions in my time from personal experience, while owning both a VAZ 2106 and other Zhiguli models.

What to do if the stove in the car does not heat well

If the stove in the car does not heat well or does not work at all, then you first need to determine the cause of the malfunction and then eliminate it. Most problems with a car heater manifest themselves as follows:

  • The stove in the car does not heat well;
  • The heater in the car blows cold air;
  • The stove in the car sometimes works, sometimes it doesn’t (it blows either cold or hot air);
  • The air from the stove in the car is quite hot, but it blows weakly;
  • The heater in the car does not work (does not turn on).

In the table below, we have combined the possible reasons for the malfunction of the car's interior heating system, described how they can affect the operation of the stove, and listed ways to eliminate them.

1. The stove does not heat well; 2. The stove blows cold air; 3. The stove blows either cold or hot air.

The stove suddenly stopped heating on the way

If while driving there is a sudden loss of heat and even with the heater fan running cold air is blowing, this is a reason to immediately stop and check the level of coolant (antifreeze or antifreeze) in the system. Immediately open the hood of the car and look at the expansion tank. Usually, it is precisely when the coolant level drops sharply that the stove immediately reacts and stops blowing warm air.

If the fears are confirmed and the antifreeze level has actually dropped, or there is no antifreeze in the expansion tank at all, it is necessary to check the connection of all pipes and hoses, as well as the engine cooling radiator and the heater radiator. It is quite difficult to replace a broken pipe on the road with a new one, since usually no one carries such things with them in stock, but you can still try to somehow patch it up (electrical tape will help, it will last for several kilometers), or cut it off and put it on again if the length allows!

Once the cause of the drop in coolant level is found, eliminate it and add fluid to the required level. Of course, it is again not easy to find antifreeze on the road, but as a last resort, you can use ordinary water if you need to travel several kilometers to the repair site. In the most desperate situation, you can use clean snow, filling the expansion tank with it. Many will consider this advice not entirely correct, but believe me, it is better to flush the cooling system later than to stop on the road with an engine seized from overheating.

Why the stove on the VAZ 2107 does not heat well, reasons:

A common cause is an underheated engine.

Signs: The temperature gauge is in the white zone, the engine takes a long time to warm up. At an outside temperature of -20, within 8-10 minutes of idling the engine, it should warm up to 40-50 degrees (the very beginning of the white zone of the temperature gauge).

If the temperature rises less, it’s bad (the thermostat is faulty), higher is good. Next, you need to drive in 1-2 gears, and in 5-8 minutes the temperature should rise to 80 degrees (the border of the green and white zones). If the engine has not warmed up to 80, replace the thermostat!

Air in the cooling system.

First of all, you need to check the antifreeze level in the expansion tank and the serviceability of the radiator cap. If the radiator cap is faulty, air will remain in the system, which will result in poor circulation of coolant and, accordingly, cold air in the cabin.

The stove blows poorly to the left

The lower flap is completely open, or its latch is broken. To fully blow the glass, this damper must be closed. If it does not lock, you can use an elastic band, hooking it onto the “choke” handle, or somewhere else.

The stove blows either cold or hot air

The most common reason why the heater operates unevenly, that is, either cold or hot air blows from the deflectors, is the formation of an air lock in the cooling system. This can occur in many cases:

  • after incorrect replacement of antifreeze or antifreeze, when air entered the expansion tank when filling
  • from lack of tightness of the connections of the pipes
  • faulty expansion tank plug, or rather its valve

Check all the above points, and then remove the plug by opening the expander cap and revving thoroughly at decent speeds and an engine temperature of at least 90 degrees.

The stove doesn't heat well. Blows warm, not hot air

Most likely the problem may be due to insufficient engine temperature in your car. Pay attention to the temperature gauge. If the needle is below 90 degrees, then most likely this is the reason for the insufficiently hot air flow. If this problem occurs constantly, that is, your car’s engine does not warm up to an operating temperature of at least 85-90 degrees, then it is worth checking the thermostat and, if necessary, replacing it.

This was a list of the reasons why the stove does not heat well, which I encountered in my personal experience. It is possible that many VAZ 2106 owners will be able to give many more reasons and even tips for eliminating problems with the interior heater. If you want to add to the list, write your opinions in the comments to the article below. Thank you for your attention!

The fan is running, the fluid level is normal, but it still blows cold

In this case, you can first check the lever that switches to the “heat” mode. If it works properly, then when you move the lever, the heater radiator valve should open. At this moment, the coolant begins to circulate throughout the entire system, including the interior heater radiator, and hot air blows accordingly.

Check whether the cable from the hot-cold switch lever is connected to the heater radiator tap and, if necessary, correct the problem.

Furnace radiator and air lock

One of the possible reasons for poor performance of the heating system is a clogged cabin filter. As a result, the stove radiator can become clogged with various types of debris (for example, fluff, small leaves, dust, insects, etc.), which leads to a decrease in the heat transfer effect. Therefore, inspect the filter and replace if necessary.

There is another reason for the poor performance of the stove radiator, which is the penetration of various types of sealants, which you may have once tried to eliminate a small leak in the cooling system. The fact is that the stove radiator has very narrow tubes, and the sealant clogs not only the places where the coolant flows, but also the radiator tubes. In such a case, you can try to flush the cooling system with special compounds - if that doesn’t work, then, alas; the stove radiator will have to be replaced. In the future, if there is a need to eliminate leaks using sealants, you just need to close the heater valve.

The heater doesn't work at all

If, when you turn on the heater on a VAZ 2106, the fan does not even start to work, then you need to look for the reason in the electrical equipment. The first step is to check the integrity of the fuses in the mounting block. If necessary, replace the burnt element. Also pay attention to the power button itself, it may be that the problem lies there. Connect the wires directly and you will understand whether this is the reason or whether you need to dig further.

And the biggest problem that can happen is the failure of the heater motor (fan) on the VAZ 2106. Here you will have to tinker a little with repairs, since the procedure for replacing these heater parts is not pleasant.

Is the stove blowing cold? Don't forget about the thermostat and filter

The thermostat and radiator are key elements in the heating system. If the thermostat fails, the liquid in the system will circulate bypassing the radiator. The consequence of this will be the entry of cold air into the cabin. How to check the functionality of the thermostat? Follow the following sequence of actions:

  1. First, warm up the engine and open the hood.
  2. Find the lower radiator hose in the engine compartment.
  3. Determine its approximate temperature (cold, warm, hot).

Ideally, the pipe should be warm and even hot. If the element is absolutely cold, then we can say with confidence that problems with the stove are directly related to thermostat malfunctions. Car owners often forget that there are filters in the heating system. One of the key air purifiers is the cabin filter. Over the years of operation, it becomes unusable due to its excessive contamination. The cabin filter must be changed periodically.

The VAZ-2110 stove plays an important role in the comfortable and safe operation of the car. Identifying and eliminating the problem that prevents warm air from entering the cabin is quite simple. To do this, it is necessary to begin a step-by-step diagnosis. Sometimes drivers, when a malfunction is detected, rush to extremes and begin to look for the cause of the breakdown in the very depths of the system, when the solution lies on the surface. Normalizing the operation of a car heater does not take much time; all parts and components are available on the auto parts market today.

Why doesn't the VAZ-2107 stove heat up?

And again the weather threatens to be cold. For those who have problems with their heater, the most important question is how to make the “stove” heat up? First of all, let's determine the cause of the malfunction. The culprit may be an underheated engine, an airy cooling system, or a malfunction of the heater itself. If the stove fan does not spin, the electrical wiring is faulty - see here.

Often, the cause of cold in the cabin is an underheated engine.

Signs: the temperature on the gauge is in the white zone, the engine takes a long time to warm up. Normal warming up at a temperature of -20 looks like this: start the engine, in 8-10 minutes at idle the engine should warm up to 40-50 degrees (the very beginning of the white sector of the temperature gauge scale). If the temperature rises higher, it’s good, less is bad. Thermostat is faulty. Then we drive in 1-2 gear, and in 5-8 minutes the temperature rises to 80 (the border of the white and green zones). did not warm up to 80 - the thermostat needs to be replaced! Temporarily, you can get by with insulating the radiator with cardboard or something else. But don’t forget that if you put a load on the engine (it’s stuck and slipping), it can boil. Therefore, the cardboard should be pulled out easily and quickly.

List of main malfunctions of the VAZ-2106 stove and methods for solving them if the stove does not heat well

Quite often you can hear from owners of domestic vehicles that the heater began to work poorly, and the problem was discovered precisely in the cold season, when without a non-functioning device, moving in a frozen car becomes a real test for both the driver and passengers. While some motorists are trying to do everything possible to quickly correct this misunderstanding, other drivers are trying to hold out at least until the onset of spring. In any case, whatever the motorist’s decision - to postpone or speed up the resolution of the issue - the material below will help you understand how to return the stove to its previous performance without extra labor and money. The described recommendations are suitable not only for the VAZ-2106 model, but also for other standard Zhiguli models.

List of main heater malfunctions and ways to solve them

The heater stops heating while driving

If a motorist notices that while driving the heating unit has stopped blowing warm air, including when even an actively functioning fan supplies exclusively cold air, you should almost immediately turn off the vehicle and make sure that the antifreeze level has not dropped below the extreme mark. It is necessary to open the hood of the car and examine the expansion tank. If it happens that the levels of antifreeze or antifreeze decrease sharply, the stove simply will not be able to blow warm air.

If the heater on a VAZ-2106 blows cold air precisely because the coolant level is low, you will have to check the tightness of the system, make sure that all pipes and hoses are in their places, and that the engine cooling radiator and heater radiator are working normally. Most often, a malfunction of this kind can be caused by a suddenly broken pipe, and due to the fact that the motorist is currently on the road and has nowhere to buy a new part, every effort should be made to somehow attach the detached element, for example, using electrical tape . If the length of the broken pipe allows it to be shortened a little, you can cut it off a little and put it back on.

As soon as the car owner understands why cold air is blowing, the cause of the decrease in antifreeze level should be eliminated and fluid should be added to the system to the required level. Of course, there are situations when the car owner does not have coolant at his disposal, then simple water can come to the rescue. As a last resort, you can use clean snow. In fact, it is more advisable to subsequently flush the entire system than to end up halfway with the motor jammed due to excessive overheating.

The heating unit supplies either “cold” or “heat”

If the owner of a domestic car notices that the heater on his VAZ-2106 is not working well, in particular, only cold or hot air periodically enters the interior from the deflectors, most likely there is a suspicion that an air lock has formed in the cooling system. This malfunction can occur due to several reasons, for example:

  • improper replacement of antifreeze allowed air to enter the expansion tank;
  • leaky connection of pipes;
  • The problem is in the expansion tank valve.

If the reason is caused by one of the described actions, the motorist should do everything possible to get rid of the traffic jam that has appeared, unscrew the expander cap, and then press the gas pedal with force, while making sure that there are decent speeds and the temperature of the power unit, which should be above 90 °C.

With a functioning fan and a sufficient volume of coolant, the stove continues to supply “cold”

If the stove on a VAZ-2106 does not heat up, the driver must definitely pay attention to the lever by which the “heat” mode is activated. If the element operates properly when the lever moves, the heater radiator tap should be moved to the “open” position. Thanks to this manipulation, the work of antifreeze is activated, which begins to move, connecting the interior heater radiator to the process, as a result of which the driver will be able to feel the flow of hot air.

The problem may arise due to the fact that there is no connection between the cable and the lever that regulates the switching of “heat” and “cold”, going to the radiator tap of the heating unit. Determining such a problem will not require a lot of time.

Heating device not functioning

A problem with heating the interior can arise not only because the stove does not heat well. Quite often, owners of domestic VAZ-2106 are faced with the fact that when the heater is turned on, the fan remains inactive. The cause of the malfunction in this case can be found exclusively in the electrical equipment. First you need to make sure that all fuses are intact. As soon as you find a burnt part, it should be immediately replaced with a new one. The power button can also cause a problem; you can check it by connecting the wires directly.

Probably the most serious problem is a failed heater motor. Fixing such a problem may take more than one hour, and in addition, certain skills will be required.

The VAZ-2106 stove blows slightly warm air

If the VAZ-2106 heater blows weakly, the problem may be caused by the low temperature of the power unit of the car itself. The motorist should check the temperature gauge; if the needle drops and is below 90 °C, most likely this is the problem, since there is not enough power to supply hot air. If such a malfunction occurs frequently, you need to check the thermostat and replace it.

Modification of the VAZ 2107 stove so that it heats better.

As practice shows, the stove radiator gives off a sufficient amount of heat and its improvement is not required. This means that in order to increase the efficiency of the heater, the airflow system needs to be modified. Coat all air ducts with sealant, especially at their connections. This especially applies to VAZ 2105 - 2107 cars, due to their design features of the air ducts.

Replacing the stove motor.

The stove can be improved by installing a snail instead of an engine with an impeller, as used in VAZ 2108-2109 models. This tuning will increase air flow and reduce noise. The motor used in these models differs from the seven in its increased speed and greater power. To install it, a slight modification to the stove body will be required - due to its larger size, it is necessary to remove the comb, which directs the air flow to the feet.

You can leave the original impeller, but you need to enlarge the hole in it with a diameter of up to 7 mm, for the motor shaft from the figure eight.

Such modification of the stove also requires replacing the switch and resistor. Both parts are taken from the same model as the motor. The VAZ 2107 switch is designed for a lower current, and when used with a powerful engine it can simply melt. The native resistance of the VAZ 2107 will not allow the motor to operate at full power, which is why the resistor is changed.

We start by completely disassembling the heater housing. Almost everything is cut off from the bottom of the stove, except for the fasteners and frame. Next, we make the body for the snail. For this purpose, you can use any durable material - polycarbonate, plastic, plexiglass, etc. The four walls of the future body are cut out of the material (that you have chosen) and screwed to the bottom of the stove.

After all the steps done, we put the lower part on the middle one, first remove the diffuser. The dimensions must be adjusted so that the snail fits exactly into the body and does not protrude beyond the radiator mounts located on the middle part.

At this stage of work, you should pay special attention; if the body turns out to be large, then you will not be able to install the stove in its normal place. After accurately adjusting the dimensions of the new housing, all joints must be coated with sealant.

Let's take care of the air ducts. You can use commercially available plumbing hoses and cuffs. In the new stove body, holes of a suitable diameter for the cuffs are cut in the bottom, on both sides. Hoses are installed in them - the side ones are connected to the right and left air ducts, the lower ones away from the legs, to exhaust the warm air flow.

To heat the rear passengers, you can additionally install a pair of longer hoses. The amount of heat given off by the stove radiator and the power of the snail are quite enough for everything. The places of the side air ducts and hose connections are coated with sealant to prevent loss of warm air.

Such a modification will increase the efficiency of the stove on the VAZ 2107 by 2-3 times, both in the quality of glass blowing, a large flow of warm air does not allow the windows to fog up, and in heating the interior. This modernization of the interior heater is available to everyone and does not require large expenses.

Conversion of the VAZ-2108 stove (snail) to VAZ-2107: video

Note: it should be remembered that when installing the volute and motor, the switch must be replaced. Make sure the heater fuse has the current rating required to operate the modified heater.

Actually the essence is this. The stove begins to produce real heat only after 2000 rpm of the engine. At idle it's a little warm. The coolant level seems to be normal. There are, as it were, two options for a possible malfunction - the first is an air lock in the stove. but as it is written in all the manuals, I am on a level surface at idle. etc. 2nd - something happened to the blades in the pump. but then the car would have been heating up with might and main. and now the temperature is within normal limits. Maybe someone has already had such a situation. please advise how to resolve it.

It seems to me that there is simply not enough voltage to the fan. I would measure the voltage on the battery at different speeds, and then, depending on the situation, charge the battery / change the battery / change the generator. I solved it by replacing the battery
