It is worth noting that replacing a standard VAZ 2109 carburetor with an imported one will not make any significant difference in terms of increasing engine power. Only revision will help.

  • We remove the spring, which is located in the vacuum drive of the throttle valve.

VAZ 2109 increase engine power

  • We change the diffuser of the primary carburetor chamber. If the standard diffuser is marked with a value of “3.5”, feel free to set it to “4.5” and enjoy the increase in power, albeit for the sake of economical fuel consumption.
  • We change the pump nozzle, which has a value of “30”. We dismantle it and install a sprayer with a value of “40”.
  • Some craftsmen manage to install an additional carburetor on the car. Having managed to successfully synchronize the opening of the dampers, an increase in engine power with two carburetors is guaranteed.

Zero resistance air filter

The so-called “nulevik” is capable of helping to increase the dynamics of the VAZ 2109 car. It can be easily purchased on the auto parts market at a very affordable price and installed:

  • We dismantle the housing of the old filter and air duct.
  • Remove the crankcase gas exhaust pipes.
  • We install a new air filter and get an increase in power by 3-5%.

Muffler

Some advise not to bother with the carburetor and filter, but to immediately start installing a direct-flow muffler. So:

  • We remove the resonator and the old muffler.
  • We dismantle the exhaust manifold, but leave the “pants”.

Note. Installing a direct-flow muffler, although it gives a noticeable increase, has a drawback. The fact is that when accelerating and releasing gas, the noise increases significantly, which may not be liked by others and traffic police inspectors.

Increasing the compression ratio

  • The cylinder head is dismantled.
  • The cylinder head is milled on a special machine (changes should not exceed 0.5-1 mm).
  • Having thus reduced the volume of the combustion chamber, we increase the compression ratio.

Note. The increase in power in this case is 12-15% more, which is very good. Do not forget that after this modernization you will no longer have to fill the tank with ordinary fuel, but with pure gasoline with an octane rating of AI95-98.

Sports camshaft

Installing a sports camshaft will ensure maximum supply of the air-fuel mixture to the cylinders, and this will increase the valve lift height. Let's consider ways to increase the power and throttle response of engines of front-wheel drive VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 cars with 2108, 21081, 21083 Solex carburetors. These methods are well known and will not require any serious interventions in the operation of the engine, carburetor and fuel system of the car, however, the result can be achieved quite well. The only negative of these modifications is a slight increase in the engine’s fuel appetite.

First of all, the gearbox will come under attack, then the clutch will die for a long time, and then the drives will burn out. I think the consequences are obvious. Therefore, “cheap” intervention in the life of the internal combustion engine will lead to expensive modernization, or even replacement of the entire transmission.

Some eccentrics even manage to reduce the steps in the gear ratios between first and second gears. But the end justifies the means, and this method also has a right to exist.

Tuning process

Disassembling the power unit

Disassembling the power unit is done in a few hours. So, first you need to dismantle the cylinder head cover and the oil pan. It is best to carry out this operation on a special stand.

After this, we begin to remove the main components. Unscrew the bolts securing the cylinder head and cylinder block. Then, we set the head aside and work directly with the cylinder block. So, let's look at what you have to remove:

  1. Unscrew the yoke and remove the crankshaft. First we dismantle the pulley.
  2. We dismantle the water and oil pump.
  3. We take out the piston group. We dismantle the connecting rods. If there is, you need to remove the sleeves.
  4. Now, the block is ready for further manipulations.
  5. The last step is washing the parts and the block.

Once the block is disassembled, you can proceed to disassembling the cylinder head.

  1. Remove the camshaft cover.
  2. We remove the camshaft.
  3. We dry out the valves.
  4. Remove the springs and seals.
  5. We take out the valves.
  6. We knock out the saddle and guide bushings from the head.
  7. We wash the parts and the base of the head.

Determining Rework Priorities

To increase the power of the VAZ 2109 carburetor engine, you will need to purchase a piston group, valves, camshaft, connecting rods and crankshaft. All these parts must be lightweight and manufactured by tuning manufacturers.

We assemble the piston assembly, namely, we attach the pistons to the connecting rods. Then, you can begin the so-called “dressing” process. This refers to the attachment of connecting rods with pistons to the crankshaft. We install the crankshaft oil seals and bearings. We install the yoke and you can fix the pallet. Then, the remaining auxiliary components, such as the pulley, water pump and roller, are assembled.

Head tuning

Tuning a cylinder head is actually assembling new parts onto old seats. So, a disassembled cylinder head is assembled from an old body and new tuning elements. There is nothing complicated in this process.

What will happen to us for this?
