Battery for VAZ 2112 16 valves factory recommendations

Serial assembly of VAZ-2112 cars began in 1999. This model was produced in 3- and 5-door bodies. hatchback within the “tenth” family. We can say that the 12th came to replace the outdated “nines”. The appearance is more attractive and the interior more comfortable. The car was produced until 2008 and was quite popular due to its low price and good maintainability. More than twelve years have passed since the VAZ-2112 was removed from the assembly line, but there are still many copies in service. Therefore, we present material on choosing a battery for owners of this car.

Which battery is better to choose?

From the factory, all VAZ 2110-2112 vehicles are equipped with a battery with a capacity of 55 Ampere hour. But for some reason, many owners believe that they can install batteries of higher capacity without any negative consequences. But this is far from true. From personal experience of use, I can say that the consequences can be as follows:

  1. A battery with a larger capacity will not be fully charged from the operation of the generator, and this in turn will lead to premature “aging” of the batteries. To avoid this, you will need to regularly charge the battery from a charger.
  2. The load on the generator is too high. As a result, some parts of the generator may fail. I can’t say with 100% certainty that my assumptions are correct, but over the course of a year of using a battery in a VAZ 2112 with a capacity of 70 Ampere hour, 3 diode bridges burned out. And after installing a normal 55 Ampere-hour battery, these problems no longer occurred.

Capacity

The most important criterion when buying a new battery is its capacity. This indicator is measured in ampere-hours (Ah) and reflects the amount of electricity stored in the battery, which ensures starting the engine and stable operation of electrical appliances (radio, headlights, wipers). For passenger cars, batteries with a capacity of 50-90 Ah are usually suitable.

Find out the charging time of your battery

The maximum capacity is always indicated on the battery case. Before purchasing a new battery, you can focus on the performance of the old battery - they should be equal or slightly different from each other. It is also worth considering the generator rating - to obtain the optimal battery capacity, its value must be multiplied by 0.75.

Important! If the indicator in question is significantly lower than the required one, then in cold weather problems with ignition may occur. If you exceed the maximum value, this may lead to starter failure.

All new Lada cars have standard batteries with a nominal capacity of 55 Ah. However, this value may not be enough for trouble-free startup of the injector in cold weather, so it is better to adhere to the following recommendations:

By following these tips, your car will operate reliably even in frosty Russian winters.

What else should you pay attention to?

An important factor in any car battery is the starting current. And the higher this value, the better and faster your car will start. This is especially important in winter, when the load on the battery increases.

Nowadays, many models of VAZ cars, including 2110, are installed off the assembly line with Akom batteries, the starting current of which is about 425 Amperes. Unfortunately, this figure is not very high and it is impossible to boast of a good start in winter frosts. Therefore, when replacing the factory battery, when this becomes necessary, I would advise choosing a battery with a large starting current value, at least 450 and above.

Starting current power

Insufficient current can be recognized as follows: the battery lamp on the dashboard lights up dimmer than usual. In this case, you should think about purchasing a more powerful battery, because at the most necessary moment the car may simply not start.

A high-quality battery for VAZ 2107 , 2110, 2111 and 2114 should provide a starting current of about 500-600 amperes. In the northern regions, it would be a good idea to purchase a battery with a capacity of about 700-750 amperes.

Selecting a battery manufacturer

The most famous today are battery companies such as Varta, Bosch, Mutlu and our domestic Tyumen batteries. Of course, there are many other manufacturers, but I decided to mention these because I have come across some from personal experience.

Mutlu is a fairly serious manufacturer that makes excellent batteries for cars. This battery stood on the parent VAZ 2107 for 5 years without a single charge, after which it worked for another year with periodic recharging. The model was Silver Evolution with a starting current of 540 Amps.

In winter there have never been problems with starting in any frost down to -30 degrees. I would like to note that if more attention was paid to this battery, it is possible that the service life would have increased by another couple of years.

Varta is considered the world's best manufacturer of car batteries. But the cost of these batteries is quite high. I bought myself the simplest model, Black Dynamic, which has the following characteristics: 56 A*h and with a starting current of 480 Amperes.

This battery has been in use for two years now and there hasn't been a single problem. Excellent start in winter. It is a maintenance-free type and there is no need to add electrolyte or distilled water for the entire service life.

As for the factory Akom , which finally died after 3 years of use, it did not bring me much joy. Periodically he sat down at the most inopportune moment; in winter, he generally had to be brought into the house at -20 degrees below zero. As for the starting current power, in winter it barely cranked the engine. In general, there are only negative memories of him.

Polarity

Every car owner should know where the positive and negative terminals are located, as well as in what order to connect and disconnect the battery from the terminals, that is, have an idea of polarity.
There are two types of polarity in batteries - reverse and direct. To determine this criterion, you need to place the battery facing you so that the terminals are closer to you. With reverse polarity, the positive terminal is on the right, and with direct polarity, it is on the left. Direct polarity is found in almost all Russian-made cars, with the exception of the VAZ 2106, VAZ 21099 and Lada Largus.

Purchasing a battery with inappropriate polarity makes it impossible to properly connect the device to the network due to the missing wire length. If you connect the battery incorrectly, this is guaranteed to damage the built-in electronics.

Which battery is suitable for VAZ 2112 1st generation

Usefulness – 61% | Print

The VAZ 2112 model (1st generation) is equipped with a European battery size, with a starting current of at least 700 Ampere according to the EN standard, and a nominal capacity of at least 70 Ampere-hour and no more than 85 Ah. The table below shows the remaining parameters of a suitable battery.

VAZ 2112

(1st generation) 1997-2009.

Size: L 278 W 175 H 190 (mm)

Starting current (EN): 700 A (not less)

Capacity: from 70 Ah to 85 Ah (max)

Polarity:straight (plus left)

Technology: Hybrid or Calcium

Reserve capacity: 90 – 105 minutes

Date of manufacture: no more than 12 months ago

Manufacturer:Bosch, Mutlu, Tudor, Afa, Bost, Dominator, Tyumen, Titan, Beast, Tyumen, Bars, AkTech, TAV, Medalist

In the car segment that includes the VAZ 2112 (1997–2009), these types of batteries are best suited, fully providing the load of the on-board network of such a car. Hybrid battery technology (Hybrid, Ca+, Ca/Sb) will be more beneficial for everyday trips, for example to and from work.

For long daily runs, a Calcium (Ca/Ca) type of battery is better. Batteries assembled using this technology do not like constant recharging, but have high energy intensity and efficiency, and are more expensive.

For this VAZ model, the permissible capacity for use is in the range from 70 to 85 Ah; installing a battery with a smaller capacity can lead to constant recharges from the generator, the power of which will be higher. As a result, the battery ages faster than usual, providing insufficient electricity to the vehicle's on-board network.

A battery with a capacity greater than the limit values will, on the contrary, periodically be undercharged, thereby losing its beneficial characteristics. Under other operating conditions, this is an unnecessary overpayment and a load on the generator.

Technically, any of the 3 existing categories of maintainability will be suitable for the VAZ 2112: Serviced, Low-maintenance or Maintenance-free; there is no mandatory requirement here.

If you use the battery correctly, then this parameter does not affect the battery life, the only difference is the price, the one that is cheaper needs to be maintained, the one that is more expensive does not require maintenance. In the modern world, 80% of drivers install maintenance-free batteries, this is easier.

Batteries with different polarities will work the same, the only difference is in the location of the terminals, some batteries have the plus on the right, others have the left. In the VAZ 2112 car, the length of the wires is designed so that it is most convenient to connect the battery with straight polarity. If the length of the wires is sufficient, then there is no difference in the location of the terminals - polarity.

New batteries must be stored properly. A battery released six months or a year ago will then begin to deteriorate without regular recharging. You can’t even hope that sellers regularly charge batteries from the display window. In this regard, the maximum permissible age for Hybrid and Calcium batteries should be 12 months; anything older requires verification.

It is extremely difficult to fake the release date of a battery, especially if the brand is well-known. The manufacturing code is burned/indented on the side or top plastic part of the case and is never placed on stickers.

The release date of any battery is encrypted in a code of letters and numbers. Such a code, in addition to the release date, may contain information about the country of assembly and batch number.

There is no uniform manufacturer standard for such a code.

You can decipher such markings on the website of a specific manufacturer using simple instructions.

It's simple, just open the hood and look at the already installed battery, rewrite the parameters and go to the store. If the space in the block for the battery is limited, measure it with a tape measure so as not to make a mistake in the size.

When a car is recently purchased and there is a lack of confidence in the battery used, there is information on the requirements for capacity and current in the form of a sticker on the radiator frame or near the battery pack.

If you still have the service book for the car, look at it and find out which battery is needed.

What else you need to know before buying

• It is better to take batteries from trusted manufacturers, whether foreign or domestic; read more reviews about specific models.

• Small conventional manufacturers use cheaper, recycled lead (remelted from old batteries), with which the battery life will be noticeably shorter.

• In the store, visually inspect the selected sample, check the integrity of the case; chips and cracks are unacceptable. Careless loading, as a result of which they form, increases the likelihood of future liquid leakage.

• The battery terminals are usually covered with factory caps; if they are not, inspect them for scratches.

• Contact the seller to measure the battery charge (norm without load is from 12 to 12.9 volts, with load from 9 to 11 volts) and electrolyte density (normal deviation within 0.02 m3), the seller according to the rules must take such measurements before sale.

Periodically clean the battery terminals from the oxide layer; due to insufficient contact, the battery does not replenish its energy reserves well. The surface of the battery itself must always be dry and clean; dirt clogs the ventilation holes of the plugs and side channels, increasing self-discharge.

The terminals can be protected for a long time by lubricating them with acid-free lubricant or special available products. For example, Liqui Moly has this lubricant for electrical contacts:

• Remember that any battery can be returned under warranty; if it does not fit or there are doubts about its serviceability, always issue a warranty card and receipt from the seller.

• When disconnecting the battery, always disconnect the negative cable first and last when connecting.

• If you encounter any problems with the battery during the first year of operation, first contact a service center.

Battery Operation

The operating instructions will help you extend the life of the battery, and also ensure stable starting and uninterrupted operation of the engine:

  • A serviceable battery charges quickly and completely (if you control the current strength and electrolyte density) in strict accordance with all charging rules, which are set out in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer
  • It is usually recommended to set the charging current equal to 0.1 battery capacity (for example, if the capacity is 55 Amp-hours, then the charging current is 5.5 Amp)
  • In this case, the voltage supplied to the battery terminals should not be higher than 14.8 Volts
  • When the voltage rises above 14.8 Volts, and the density of the electrolyte is still low, then try to continue charging, while reducing the charging current by two or even three times
  • This will naturally increase the charging time.
  • If this does not help, you should bring the density of its electrolyte to normal (1.27 g/cm2), or you need to return such a battery to identify the defect.
  • Today, dry-charged batteries are more common on the Russian market; once filled with electrolyte, they become ready for use.
  • Remember that a dry-charged battery should be filled with electrolyte, the quality and origin of which you have no doubt
  • A solution of exclusively battery sulfuric (or chemically pure sulfuric) acid with a density in the range of 1.27-1.28 g/cm2 is used
  • And the use of low-quality (with impurities or downright dirty) electrolyte can prematurely damage the battery.
  • It should be remembered that the vast majority of our domestic batteries began to be called “dry-charged” out of pure misunderstanding
  • Because they really, after filling with electrolyte, require additional charging
  • Therefore, in any case, when filling in the electrolyte, after a couple of hours we check the density
  • When the density drops below the nominal value, then an additional charge is required
  • Batteries manufactured by WARTA (“are maintenance-free”) and are most often stored and delivered in a dry charged state
  • To bring such batteries into working condition, we recommend electrolyte of exceptionally high purity.
  • For filling, it is important to use exclusively battery sulfuric acid and certainly of the highest grade, according to GOST 667-73, or sulfuric acid, but chemically pure
  • Using sulfuric acid of the 1st grade (GOST provides only the highest or first), which has reduced purity, leads to a decrease in service life and accelerated failure of the battery
  • When working with concentrated sulfuric acid with your own hands, as well as its solutions, you need to work with rubber gloves, goggles and have baking soda on hand to neutralize the spilled acid; in addition, you need clean water to wash away splashes of acid that may get into your eyes or on skin
  • When charging, hydrogen is formed - an explosive gas (mixed with oxygen), so charge and store charged batteries in well-ventilated areas, which prevent the accumulation of gas, the appearance of an open flame or a spark (because hydrogen, which is located under the lid of the stored elements, can explode )
  • Batteries with open connections between cells are especially dangerous if a powerful short circuit occurs.
  • Short circuits of batteries occur, as well as powerful sparking can occur when the opposite terminal of the battery is accidentally shorted to the ground of the car, when performing “lighting” operations from the battery for a car with a discharged battery

Which battery should I put in a VAZ?

When choosing, you need to consider the following parameters:

  1. Battery polarity. The answer to the question what polarity of the battery on a VAZ will be is straight. This means that the “+” output from the factory is on the left. Conveyor batteries fully comply with the requirements and their replacement with analogues must be carried out in compliance with the norm. Otherwise, the power cables may not be long enough.
  2. Dimensions. The standard mounting dimensions of the battery must be taken into account in order to be able to install a new part in the old place. In some models, it is possible to replace the unit with a smaller one, but a large unit may not fit into a niche.
  3. Capacity. Modern AvtoVAZ models are equipped with 55 Ah units. For classic cars, tanks of about 40Ah were used. The choice of analogue should be based on these parameters. If the buyer wishes, it is possible to install a battery “with a reserve”. In cases of installation of additional energy-intensive equipment (enhanced headlights, powerful sound system), this is completely justified.
  4. Starter cranking current. Everything here is as simple as possible - the more, the better. The parameter affects the ability to start the engine in cold weather. A large starting current can provide greater force to the starter to crank a frozen engine.
  5. Factory warranty. The minimum acceptable period is 2-3 years.
  6. Design. In principle, there are serviceable and sealed types of batteries. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Popular battery models

“Ten” comes off the assembly line with a 6ST-55A battery, which is filled with liquid electrolyte and has a stated capacity of 55 Ampere-hour. The electrical system of the car is tailored specifically to this battery, the current strength of which reaches 255 A. It is impossible to unequivocally answer the question of which batteries are better for the VAZ 2110, since each motorist has his own needs and capabilities. However, it is possible to analyze the most popular models on the market based on their main characteristics.

Which good battery to choose for VAZ: top 10 rating

The following is a list of the most profitable solutions for installation on domestic cars.

10th place: BOSCH S4 005 Silver

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 5000 rub.

Oddly enough, the Bosch model occupies the last place in the top. The mid-budget modification has sufficient starting current and a capacity of 540A and 60 Ah, respectively. However, the good “on paper” characteristics in practical use are significantly inferior to analogues. The reserve capacity of the unit is inferior to its substitutes and is actually at the level of batteries in the lower price range. The next negative factor is complete uselessness in severe frosts. In the warm climate of the southern regions, starting problems do not arise. However, at -20-25 degrees Celsius, after the first cranking of the starter, a drop in power occurs, which is perceived extremely negatively by domestic cars. The inability to cope with deep discharge modes also stands out. Resuscitating the capacity is extremely problematic. The result is low demand among buyers. Advantages:

  • drop in power after the first cycle of starting the internal combustion engine;
  • intolerance to severe frosts.

9th place: ExideExcell EB602

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 4300 rub.

The answer to the question of which battery is best for the VAZ 2107 and other classics will be 9th place in the rating. The presented model stands out among competitors' offerings with average characteristics in all areas. There is a good capacity here - 62 Ah, which is good for older cars where there are problems with the wiring or a lot of additional electrical equipment is installed. A starting current of 540A is also quite sufficient. Good build quality and thoughtful design have a positive effect on operation. A supposedly maintenance-free battery can be “restored” thanks to the presence of hidden caps for refilling electrolyte. The same jars are located under the decorative lids. The next factor is excellent frost resistance. The cheap battery functions properly in temperatures down to -35, which is a good result even for the leaders on the list. There is also a low susceptibility to self-discharge, which has a positive effect on long vehicle downtimes in winter. The likelihood of finding a car with a “dead” battery in the garage is minimal. The low ranking of the top is due to a drop in charging speed and reserve capacity in the cold. Advantages:

  • quality at a reasonable cost;
  • starting current indicators;
  • resistance to freezing;
  • lifetime.
  • performance drops with decreasing temperature.

8th place: ToplaEnergy 60

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 4800 rub.

A time-tested modification of the ToplaSlavenskoye company. After analyzing customer reviews, we can establish that the strength of the battery is a good resource and a good starting current of 600 A. The actual capacity is 60 Ah, which is also not bad. Optimistically considering the option when asked which battery is best for a VAZ car, you can safely choose this model. Small-volume gasoline fours go well with the unit. Starting currents easily turn the car starter in winter. Also, long periods of downtime are not a problem - the susceptibility to self-discharge is minimal. However, when installed on diesel engines and impressive power plants, pitfalls are revealed. For example, there is concern about the charge being released too quickly during a cold start. If you cannot start the engine the first 2-3 times, then starting the internal combustion engine will be problematic. The low position of the top is due precisely to the rate of fire of the model. In some regions of Russia this may become a critical factor. Advantages:

  • decent quality;
  • starting current;
  • The capacity reserve is suitable for tuned models;
  • resistance to shaking.
  • charge release and, as a consequence, a limited number of attempts to start the internal combustion engine in winter.

7th place: Banner Running Bull

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 9500 rub.

The rating list of which battery to buy for a VAZ is continued by the AGM modification of the Austrian brand. The unit is perfect for new cars like Vesta or Vesta-Cross. The high starting current of 640 amperes exceeds most budget analogues, and the capacity, limited to 60 Ah, makes it possible to freely power the on-board network without the risk of critical discharge. For the southern regions of the country, the battery version is the most optimal, maintenance-free solution. It is not afraid of shaking, vibration and is resistant to self-discharge. The ability to easily recover from deep discharges (up to 800 cycles) also stands out. The model's inability to withstand strong pores does not allow it to reach a high place. In winter, the battery loses up to 40% of its performance, and as the frost gets worse, the performance continues to drop. This circumstance forces users to handle the unit extremely carefully and hide it in a warm place, which is extremely inconvenient.

Advantages:

  • energy release in summer;
  • capacity reserve;
  • warranty and service life.
  • price;
  • incompatibility with severe frosts.

6th place: Tyumen Premium 6ST-60

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 3300 rub.

To determine which battery for the VAZ 2114 and similar models is better, just contact the domestic one. The budget modification is presented on the market as a serious competitor to imported analogues, and the cheap battery copes with its task perfectly. The inrush current of the 510 ampere unit is inferior to expensive foreign-made substitutes. However, for Zhiguli and Lada this indicator is quite enough. Also pleasing is the capacity reserve, which is similar to the standard modifications. 60 Amp hours is enough for a car, provided there are no powerful acoustics or spotlights. The impressive mass of the unit is explained by the serviceable design and the use of a large amount of lead. On the one hand, this negatively affects the comfort of installation. However, thanks to its specific layout, the battery copes excellently with severe frosts and has a “long-lasting” charge return. The model does not make it into the top 5 solely due to incompatibility with the newest machines - the capacity is too low. Advantages:

  • reserve capacity;
  • frost resistance;
  • price tag;
  • serviceable design.
  • Quality problems have been noticed.

5th place: VARTA D59 Blue Dynamic

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 5000 rub.

In fifth place of the top: which battery to choose for VAZ and Lada, is a contender from the popular brand “Varta”. The fairly high ranking is due to the extreme survivability of some specimens. The unique development of the Power Frame manufacturer guarantees the safety of the plates from shedding during long-term use. The battery version has a standard capacity of 60 Ah and 540 amperes of starting current. With fairly average performance, the unit stands out for its cold cranking quality, which is in demand in the northern regions of the country. The battery also has an increased reserve capacity - the battery guarantees a large number of attempts to start the engine in winter. Advantages:

  • starting currents;
  • resource under heavy-duty conditions;
  • durable design.

4th place: Tudor AGM

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 8500 rub.

The popular model of a well-known company falls just a little short of the top three in the ranking of which battery to install in a VAZ. The compact dimensions of the unit allow it to be installed in any car. The high ranking of the review is due to the specific characteristics of the product. With a typical capacity of 60 amperes, the battery produces 680 A of starting current, which is unattainable for budget-type analogues. The modification is designed for operating conditions in start-stop mode, as the company informs the buyer about. At the same time, a characteristic feature is fast return and charge collection, which is vital for cars with automatic engine shutdown. However, this advantage is lost on the Lada due to the lack of such technology. But the battery made it into the rating due to its excellent frost resistance - users in the northern regions will find the ability to retain capacity in winter very useful. Advantages:

  • fast release of starting currents;
  • charge restoration;
  • guarantee.
  • difficulties after 2-3 attempts to start;
  • price.

3rd place: Mutlu Calcium Silver 60

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 5200 rub.

If you have a VAZ 2115, the third position in the rating will tell you which battery to install. The time-tested model has undergone some additions and has become even more reliable. The calcium base of the battery is additionally doped with silver molecules, which almost doubles the service life of the unit. Having access to jars of electrolyte also has a positive effect on operating time. If necessary, sections can be serviced, thereby further extending the operating time. Product performance is limited to a modest 60 Ah capacity and 540 amps of starting current. Thanks to the introduction of advanced technologies, the company has achieved stable battery operation in the cold and under fully discharged conditions, which is important for domestic car enthusiasts. Advantages:

  • price;
  • serviceable design;
  • amount of lead;
  • period of operation.
  • quickly runs out of steam with repeated attempts to start the engine.

2nd place: Bosch AGM S5 A05

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 9800 rub.

Quite a bit behind the leader is the premium model of the German brand. When asked which battery is best to install on a VAZ 2106, it is recommended to turn to simpler modifications - this model is intended for modern cars such as Lada Vesta or Grant. The company's advanced development produces a record 680 A starter current and has a capacity of 60 Ah. Such indicators are sufficient to start the power plant in critical conditions. And if there are difficulties with grasping the motor, an impressive reserve capacity saves the situation. Everything is present here - advanced developments, compactness and excellent reliability. Advantages:

  • high quality;
  • guarantee;
  • specifications.

1st place: VARTA D52 Silver Dynamic AGM

– View in Yandex.Market Price from 12,000 rub.

A confident winner of the contender rating from the VARTA brand. The model is made specifically for cars with a start-stop system. However, when asked which battery for the VAZ 2110 and others is better suited. You can safely pay attention to this battery. The modification is capable of repeatedly and quickly going through the cycle of energy release and intake, which makes possible a large number of attempts to start the power plant in the cold. At the same time, the starting current is an impressive 680 amperes. Of course, in the case of short trips from the Ladovskaya on-board network, the AGM unit will not have time to recover, but for long distances it will be ideal. Advantages:

  • quick capacity set;
  • starting currents;
  • lifetime.

For a VAZ 2112 car, the compiled rating will tell you which battery to choose. Also here are the most popular batteries suitable for other models of the domestic automaker. The rating did not include a large number of common modifications due to poor characteristics or inflated costs.
