Tires for lada vesta sw cross: how to choose winter and summer tires

Last year, sales of a new domestically produced product began - the LADA Vesta SW CROSS station wagon. Maybe there’s not much that’s domestic left in it, but the car was made here, at our factory! And from the fact that the car turned out to be successful in terms of construction, design and sales, one can only be happy for the new product. A distinctive feature from all previous models produced by AvtoVAZ was the installation of simply huge (by Lada standards) 17-inch wheels. We have already talked about them in one of our articles, and today we will look at the topic of the Lada Vesta SV Cross tire.

Lada Vesta SV Cross tires, as for any other car, are one of the most important elements. Not only handling and braking distance depend on them, but also indicators such as fuel consumption, road stability, acceleration, and overall engine power. In addition, tires affect ride comfort and wear on the suspension in general. That is why it is important to use only tires specified by the manufacturer.

Tire pressure Lada Vesta

IMPORTANT! The pressure must be measured on a cold tire (the car must be at rest for at least 2 hours before measurement). IMPORTANT! All pressure values indicated in the table are given for the recommended tire sizes of your Lada Vesta.

Characteristics of standard tires

Lada vesta cross test drive, reviews from real owners

AvtoVAZ uses Belarusian tires, the peculiarity of which is that they were developed for Vesta and are characterized by good quality. By their variety, these tires belong to the ART Motion brand. This means that the products undergo a mandatory testing procedure based on European Union standards. This rubber has proven its quality in practice, demonstrating many advantages:

  1. High level of controllability regardless of the surface condition. Additional water drainage on wet asphalt is facilitated by arc-shaped grooves on the inside.
  2. On the outside of the tire there are special blocks designed to increase stability on sharp turns.
  3. The tread ensures minimal noise when driving.
  4. 3 grooves in the longitudinal direction are responsible for maintaining directional stability.
  5. Maximum speed is improved and fuel consumption is reduced due to low rolling resistance.
  6. The braking distance is reduced due to increased traction.
  7. Good quality at a relatively low price compared to foreign analogues.

As standard, the car is equipped with stamped wheels 6J 15 ET 50 4×100 60.1. This index is deciphered as follows:

  • 6J – rim width;
  • 15 – landing diameter in inches;
  • ET50 – wheel offset – 50 mm;
  • 4x100 – 4 fastening bolts, their diameter is 100 mm. This is the bolt pattern parameter on the Lada Vesta. Installation of discs from previous models is not allowed; they use a 4x98 bolt pattern - boring and fitting will lead to runout during movement and vibration;
  • 1 – diameter of the hole in the center.

These wheels are fitted with tires of size 195/55 R16 91H. The ratio of wheel and disk sizes is presented in the table:

Modification

Rim offset

195/55 R16 91H, 87, 91T

205/50 R17 93W

Index T – speed limit up to 190 km/h, H – up to 210 km/h. Numbers from 88 to 91 are load capacity indices from 560 to 615 kg.

Every motorist should know how to check tire pressure. If it is weak, the wheel will come into contact with the road surface over a smaller area, traction and handling will deteriorate. If the pressure is too high, the tire becomes too stiff, the dynamic performance decreases, and the suspension parts wear out faster.

The manufacturer recommends maintaining the tire pressure on the Lada Vesta at 2.1 atmospheres. Experienced drivers try to adjust the indicator independently depending on their driving style. To check the pressure, you need a pressure gauge. It is sold at any auto parts store. You can contact a car service center, where they will check the pressure, pump up the tires if necessary, and test them for punctures.

What should be the tire pressure of Lada Vesta

Many people know how important it is to periodically check the pressure in your car tires. If the pressure does not meet the manufacturer's recommendations, the tires will wear out faster, stability and controllability on the road will deteriorate, and fuel consumption will increase. Do you know what the pressure should be in the Vesta wheels?

In the vehicle operating instructions, the manufacturer indicated the following recommendations:

Tire size with load capacity and speed indexes*Wheel sizeAir pressure in tires front/rear, MPa (kgf/cm2)
rim width (inches)rim offset (ET)**, mmpartial load***full load****

* Speed indices: T – up to 190 km/h, H – up to 210 km/h. Load capacity indices: 88–560 kg; 91–615 kg. **Rim offset (ET) is the distance from the mating plane of the disc to the middle of the rim. *** Partial load – no more than 3 adults in the car without cargo in the trunk. **** Full load – more than 3 adults or 3 adults and a load of 50 kg in the trunk.

How much to pump the wheels can also be found out from the plate, which is located on the central pillar of the body on the driver's side (visible when the door is open).

If you notice that the tire pressure is dropping, first check the serviceability of the valve spool. If it does not allow air to pass through, then the tire is most likely damaged; contact a tire repair shop.

Important! The air pressure in the tire is not constant. When the ambient temperature rises, the tire pressure increases, and when the ambient temperature decreases, it drops. You should check the pressure in Vesta tires when the temperature difference is 10-15 o C. Also, the pressure in the tire increases while the car is moving, so checking it immediately after the trip is incorrect. Wait until the tire temperature is equal to the ambient temperature.

Installing larger diameter discs

Large rims not only change the appearance of the car, but also affect its dynamics, maneuverability, and stability on the highway, and not always for the better.
When deciding on their installation, you should know the basic principle - the larger the diameter of the disk, the lower the height of the tire profile, because the size of the outer diameter of the wheel is tied to the size of the wheel arch - when turning, the tire should not touch or rest against anything at all steering wheel rotation range.

Testing the Lada Vesta over the course of a year showed acceptable wheel size options:

17-inch wheels were installed on the Concept version of the Lada Vesta. Technically, this sedan can also be equipped with R18 wheels, but the outer diameter of this wheel (669 mm), as well as the tire width (235 mm), differ significantly from the factory values and cannot be considered in the real conditions of Russian roads due to the too low profile as practical - defects in the road surface will quickly damage both tires and wheels, the price of which, due to their size, is several times higher than the cost of standard ones.

The effect of large-diameter wheels and low-profile tires on a car

  • increasing the style of the car and the effectiveness of the exterior;
  • improvement of driving qualities - dynamics, road stability, steering sensitivity;
  • better “absorption” of potholes compared to a smaller radius;
  • with a tire profile from 55 – increased durability of the suspension;
  • reducing the braking distance;
  • increasing the efficiency of ABS and ESP.

  • uncomfortable driving due to sensitivity to road surface defects;
  • restriction of use on roads with defective surfaces;
  • the need for increased pressure control;
  • greater need for kinetic energy at the start - higher fuel consumption;
  • higher cost.

Low profile tire pressure

This parameter, ignored by novice car enthusiasts, is very important when operating cars with any tires, and especially with low-profile ones. The required tire pressure is always indicated by the vehicle manufacturer in the operating instructions and in an accessible place on the body, for the Lada Vesta - on the B pillar on the driver's side.

What pressure should be in Lada Vesta tires

Ride comfort indicators depend 70% on the size of the wheels and the correct inflation. This car is equipped with three types of wheels, and for each version the recommended tire pressure for the Lada Vesta is different.

Recommended pressure At.

An important parameter is the actual load of the machine. The above values are relevant for 4 adults in the car. If there is an additional load of about 100 kg inside the trunk. 0.1-0.2 units should be added to the nominal values.

In what units is tire inflation measured?

The difference in the degree of tire inflation depends on the basic parameters of the car:

  1. Gross vehicle weight with or without loading. With a loaded car, the wheels are pushed through more than with an empty trunk and driver.
  2. Cylinder dimensions. Tire cavity capacity is of primary importance. For example, the pressure in winter tires R13 VAZ 2106 and R 16 on Vesta will differ by an average of 0.4 BAR.
  3. Speed index. At high speeds and driving on smooth asphalt, an improved free run is required. At the same time, for off-road modifications – this is not necessary.

In the CIS countries, the most common technical atmospheres are At, and pascals (kPa) or the metric system. However, in Europe and the USA, the units of measurement are their own (PSI, BAR). Due to the widespread use of imported rubber in Russia, the buyer needs to know exactly the ratio and compatibility of pressure gauge designations:

  • 1 kg/cm²=98 kPa;
  • 1 BAR= 100kPa;
  • 1PSI= 6.9 kPa.

Vesta tire pressure in winter and summer

During seasons of critical ambient temperatures, it is necessary to check the pressure inside the tires at least 3 times a month. This is argued by the fact that when the temperature increases or decreases, the air changes volume.

For example, a situation is simulated: a car is moving at +40 °C on a highway. At the same time, under the influence of heat and friction, the tires heat up, and the compression of the air inside increases. Thus, diagnostics must be performed every 350-400 km, and the indicators must be equalized to the standard values (usually fluctuations are no more than 0.3 BAR).

In winter, on the contrary, the temperature drops, the on-board panel may display the following sign:

This is normal TPMS processing. With this icon, the car says that you need to pump up the tires to the specified level. Usually the difference with the standard is no more than 0.3 At.

How to optimally pump tires on a Lada Vesta - instructions

Many people know about the need to check tire pressure. If there is a discrepancy, the tires wear out faster, stability is lost, and the fact of inflated or flat tires affects handling and fuel consumption. Monitor the pressure, like any part of the car, tires need careful care and inspection. Familiarize yourself with the load capacity and speed indices and find out what parameters the tires of your car have. Let's figure out what the tire pressure should be on a Lada Vesta.

Decoding tire markings

However, not everyone finds it easy to understand the large number of parameters with which tires are marked.

As a rule, when choosing tires, buyers focus only on the diameter, width of the rubber profile and height, after which the speed and load capacity index are selected.

Now let’s look at what this or that inscription on car tires means. Let's do this using the example of a tire marked 195/65 R15 91 T XL. In this case, the manufacturer and the specific model are not important, we are only interested in the marking itself.

The first number in the marking always indicates the width of the tire in millimeters. The sample in question has a diameter of 195 mm.

The next number is the tire height. 65 is the percentage of height to width. With simple steps we get approximately 127 mm (65% of 195).

Next comes the English letter R. Contrary to the opinions of many car owners, it does not mean the size, that is, the radius, of the tire, but denotes the tire manufacturing technology. R - radial cord. All types of tires for cars are produced using this technology.

To be fair, it is worth noting one more meaning of the designation of the letter R, but not independently, but in tandem with the number following it (in the example - 15). This marking indicates the inner diameter of the tire and, accordingly, the diameter of the rim to which it fits.

What kind of pressure should you keep in the tires on Vesta?

Tire pressure on Vesta is regulated both by the factory and by the driver independently, depending on the operation of the tires. What is the pressure of R15, taking into account the standard size 185/65 (tire) 88H and offset (rim width) 50 mm - 2.1 at partial and 2.2 atmospheres at full load. Taking into account the standard size 195/55 R16 91H with an offset of 50 ET - 2.1 and 2.2 “atmospheres”, at partial and full load, respectively.

For the winter

Lada Vesta tire pressure for winter recommended by the manufacturer depends on the size of the wheel and tires, it must exceed the norm + 0.1 MPa. In summer, for example, for R16 2.1 atmospheres, in winter 2.2 atmospheres are better due to frost.

For summer

The situation is similar with summer “sneakers”, but here we argue on the contrary, taking into account the increased temperature, it is better to reduce the pumping to -0.1 atmospheres. This difference will compensate for the thermal contraction or expansion of air in the wheel.

What non-standard sizes can be supplied?

In addition to the standard wheels listed above, you can install tires of non-standard diameter on your Lada Vesta. When choosing such solutions, you should definitely adhere to a number of recommendations:

  • when using rubber with a diameter of 15 inches, the tire composition must have increased strength - since the car will have greater inertia when cornering;
  • for aggressive, fast driving - wheels with a diameter of 17 inches are best suited;
  • Summer tires are best equipped with wheels with a diameter of 16 inches - such wheels can be equipped with tires with a sole width of 185 to 195 mm and a profile height of 55-60 mm.

Before installing and starting to use tires of non-standard sizes, the driver should “try on” them. Often, when the wheel width or profile height increases, the tread begins to touch the plastic fender liner. As a result, the fender liner itself may be broken, and the protector begins to quickly wear down on the plastic surface. Wheels that are too large often damage mudguards and the body. The appearance of cracks and chips in the paintwork causes serious trouble.

How many atmospheres to pump the wheels on the Lada Vesta Cross - instructions

The factory recommendation for Vesta Cross indicates from 2.2 to 2.4 “atmospheres”, this also depends on driving style. The size plays a role, considering that the manufacturer installs R17 wheels and size 205/50. Some people want a higher, wider tire, so they “play” with the inflation level as they want. But, you need to take into account all the features, what the load is, the diameter, the larger the diameter, the smaller the height. It is generally accepted that for the Cross version the average values range from 2.2 to 2.4 atmospheres.

Standard tire pressure monitoring system on Lada Vesta

At the moment, this system is available - it is installed on export versions of the Lada family: Vesta, XRay, Kalina, Granta. It’s hard to say when the option will appear on Lada models intended for Russia; the fact that the option is available is encouraging. Perhaps soon the “gadgets” will be available here too.

Taking into account the equipment of export vehicles, their “tidy” is also different, because this is where information from the sensors is sent. In general, the TPMS tire pressure monitoring system is represented by four built-in sensors in the wheel valves. TPMS sensors regularly measure and send data to the dashboard, informing the driver.

What indicators depend on tire pressure

The following indicators depend on the air in the tires:

  • Maneuverability;
  • Controllability;
  • Road grip;
  • Fuel consumption;
  • Cross-country ability - if you want to drive off-road, lower the tires.

Uninflated wheels can cause disc damage. Imagine you are driving on a road where the surface is not ideal. We drove through the pit, taking into account the weak pumping, the disk takes more load. For steel rims there is practically no problem, but “casting”, titanium rims, can not only bend, but crack. And the impact on the tire is no less.

It is enough just to look at the photo, as we see with different pumping, the surface of contact between the wheel and the road changes. This is why some areas wear out quickly, while others do not interact at all. Insufficient traction can cause an accident.

If you think pumping is not a problem, you are mistaken. Over-inflated tires are dangerous, increasing the risk of aquaplaning and similarly, the contact plane is smaller, causing uneven wear.

In conclusion, I would like to say, monitor the pressure, maintain it as required by the manufacturer. Pay attention to your own driving preferences. Fans of high-speed driving can deviate from the average by 0.1 bar. After all, at speed, the temperature rises, and accordingly the pressure, which is why an excess of the latter often leads to rupture of the rubber - be careful on the roads!

What tire pressure should I put on the Lada Vesta?

Marking on tires 350 kPs (51PSI). According to my calculations, the max is 0.35 MPa, but in those. the passport needs 0.21 MPa, how to keep the car all the time, as if it was deflated, pumping, as in the passport. Is it possible to increase MPa?

I have a Lada vesta SW, station wagon, I need to choose winter tires, which ones will fit? Which winter tires suit the Lada Vesta station wagon best?

Why are all the wheels assembled on one side from the factory?

Vesta - 2.2 kg, maximum -2.3 kg. The higher the pressure, the harder the ride, the braking distance increases, and the skidding in turns increases. When the pressure drops, a notification will be displayed on the instrument panel.

If you are going to buy winter tires for Lada Vesta , then try to choose narrower tires. These tires will create more pressure on the road surface and improve traction. Remember that wide tires are more sensitive to ruts in winter. And low-profile tires make the ride less comfortable, because... transfer even the smallest holes to the body.

The smaller the unsprung masses

(this includes a lot of tires and wheels), the better the car will hold the road and accelerate faster. For example, if you put wheels on a car that are 2 kg lighter each, then acceleration to 100 km/h will be reduced by 0.2 seconds.

Attention! Installing larger wheels may lead to problems with ABS and ESP calibration (the systems may not work correctly).

What wheels and tires did you choose for the Lada Vesta? What are the pros and cons of such a replacement? Participate in the survey, leave feedback and ask questions. Let us remind you that in this article we determine the real fuel consumption of this car.

Low-profile tires and expensive 17-inch wheels, which are equipped with Cross versions of Vesta from the factory, do not suit all owners. The answer to the question “Is there an alternative?” depends on which way you want to go.

LADA > Vesta SW

Good afternoon, dear Zarulevites!
I would like to suggest a relevant topic for an article. I am the owner of a Lada Vesta SW Cross, and now it is important for me to buy winter tires on rims. However, it turned out that AVTOVAZ used a non-standard disk with an offset of 43 and requires that only this be used in order to avoid loss of warranty. The official disc costs a cosmic 7.5 thousand, there is only one possible replacement - for 6.5 thousand, and even the manufacturer has only 1 (one) disc in stock (assume that there is no replacement). Thus, the factory imposes the purchase of its unique disc at a clearly inflated price. Why not bring this to the attention of the public and ask for comments from the plant? At the very least, the factory could allow other replacement options. Judging by the forums, people install 15th and 16th wheels, risking the warranty, because the imposed option is simply twice as expensive. With all respect, Andrew.

Dear Andrey! We tried to answer your questions from all possible positions.
