The most striking statements from owners of Ladas and foreign cars that convince us of their correct choice.
Some time ago, we published a review from a car owner who stated that after trying a used foreign car once, he would no longer buy even a new Lada Vesta. The publication caused a stir, gaining more than . We read them all and chose 3 of the brightest and most informative from each “camp”: Lada adherents and fans of foreign cars, even used ones. So, let's find out what is better: a new Lada (Vesta, Granta, etc.) or a used foreign car?
For Lada
I’ve been driving a VAZ-2112 since 2001, I’ve driven 320 thousand km, not a single saffron milk cap, and there have been replacements for all sorts of consumables, but nothing critical. A friend with a Nissan is tired of fixing his car, the car is a year older than mine, and there is already through corrosion on the left front fender. So everything you write here is purely individual for each person. Everyone has different operating conditions, some have been in an accident, some have not. Someone lives in the south, someone in a harsh climate, etc. So I don’t see anything wrong with buying a new Lada instead of a decrepit used foreign car.
Some car enthusiasts believe that the new Lada is no worse than a used foreign car, others fundamentally disagree with them
Imposing special stages
It is worth noting that the transaction does not always go smoothly; some issues may arise for which the client may not be ready. For example, the selected car is available, but additional equipment is already installed on it (popularly called “extras”: alarm, deflectors, etc.). And the dealer does not always agree to sell this car without additional options (you won’t be able to dismantle the alarm system, etc.). You can, of course, order a car, but sometimes the wait drags on for a month or more.
Haser's review:
Lada created online sales. The price is final, availability online in direct-Lada. Created an order. Two options in St. Petersburg, available. One in Pragmatika Parnas and the other in Pulkovo.
Pulkovo calls - everything is competent, technical and to the point. Looks like we can go. Pragmatika calls next. And so it began. There is a car, but it is reserved by a legal entity (hello online direct-lada), i.e. No. But if the deal doesn’t go through, then we are first in line. Most likely it will not take place, because... The deal has been hanging for a long time. But, there is a nuance - a car tailored to the client - with additional anti-corrosion protection, a mesh in the bumper, etc. in general plus 70 k.
Another review from the Lada Vesta group | Lada Vesta FL in VK:
On March 7, we picked up the St. Cross at the Techncom, and it’s not available at all without any special extras. And if you take it to order, they immediately warn you that the car is unlikely to be available for the same amount for which you ordered it.
How was your purchase of a LADA car? Were you able to buy a car without any extras?
For a foreign car
The trouble with our auto industry is the quality of components (everything I had was not dependent on the climate or operating conditions.) - there was a Swede manager at AVTOVAZ - he saw through this and began to supply high-quality imported ones... for which he was fired (the Russian auto industry is not supports) ... and when my wipers on the Niva refused to overtake a truck on a winter road, it flew out from under it, the glass was completely covered, it was a miracle that I didn’t fly into the oncoming traffic... the generator burned out 200 km from the house... the rheostat at 21:00 on December 31, 130 km to the New Year’s venue... in general, I’ve had a blast with our damn auto industry. It is taken by those who are not able to earn money for a normal car, but it is somehow inconvenient to admit this, even to themselves, so they come up with an excuse for their own insolvency (this is unpleasant, but true).
For Lada
I drove to Xray in a huge pile of used foreign cars, completely different brands and models, including premium class. I won’t lie, I often made fun of the guys in the Priors, until I somehow took it for a test drive. Yes, it was two years old and rusted, etc., but it’s a cool car!)
I never thought that I would praise the Lada, but now I have very good impressions from Xray, the new Lada is definitely better than a used foreign car, and maybe even a new one. Yes, the AMT is dull, it whistles a little from the rubber seals), which is not very pleasant, but in all other respects, after 30 thousand mileage, I am completely satisfied. Gasoline consumption up to a maximum of 8.5 liters. despite the fact that I spin the AMT to the maximum and, believe it or not, it’s rushing)).
Oil consumption 0! Nothing except the oil was changed, and only 2 times. You can argue as much as you like, but I can’t say anything bad about foreign cars, although there is real bullshit, if only that they were used and the spare parts were more expensive, especially premium ones. I can’t say anything bad about the Lada either, although there are some ridiculous problems in the form of whistling rubber seals.
I can express my subjective opinion... There are no comrades for the taste and color, but I decided not to overpay for a Korean or Czech with a German of the same class and took Ixrey and don’t regret it. As for the rest, to each his own, take it with your heart and mind!

Pros and cons of Lada Niva Travel
+ Pros
- Suspension
- Patency
- Controllability
- Noise insulation (for its class)
- Minuses
- Dynamics
- Quality of metal / finishing materials
- Transfer case (noisy)
Reviews from Lada Niva Travel owners
One of the advantages is the incredibly soft and comfortable suspension. Silence in the cabin (from external sources), not even a breeze! Well, damn it, just as the transfer case was noisy in the very first Niva we had (1986), so it’s noisy here too!
The car isn't going anywhere. Its weight is 79 hp. not enough at all. And the engine is like a penny, only slightly larger in volume. Hello 70s! We immediately decided to finish it: we removed the catalyst and flashed it. The engine, of course, has begun to breathe easier, but it is still critically lacking.
Ivan Zheludkov, review of the new Lada Niva Luxe 1.7 manual transmission 2020.
The car gives the impression of being assembled and very obedient, there is no sign of any rolliness. It drives calmly and confidently (I’m not driving it, because it’s still being run-in). Yes, the engine lacks power, which is especially noticeable when overtaking and on hills, but I knew about this problem. Visibility is good: I sit high, I look far away)) I liked the light. Clear, bright, shines well both near and far.
Review of Lada Niva Luxe Off-road 1.7 MT 2022
The interior is very comfortable, they have finally learned how to provide more or less lateral support (not Recaro, of course, but not bad). I heard that only the Lux has such seats. It’s a pity that you have to pay that kind of money just to sit normally. The rest is still the same Shniva, and it doesn’t matter what is drawn on the grid: a cross or a rook. The plastic has gotten worse. Much! There was a Shniva 2005. The plastic there is much softer and doesn't smell as bad.
Review of Lada Niva Lux 1.7 manual 2022
The driver's seat is quite comfortable for long trips, which was proven on the route “Novorossiysk - Rybachy Peninsula - Novorossiysk”. Acoustic comfort is acceptable at reasonable speeds for this car. There are no crickets. While driving, a small female can sleep in the back seat; a medium-sized male can only manage it for a couple of hours in the same conditions.
Review of Chevrolet Niva 1.7 (80 hp) MT 2022
The metal of the body is a different story. It's not tin, it's foil! Today I pressed my finger on it and was afraid that I might push through. But almost all cars are like this now (if you take economy class). I just remembered my Eskudik, which you can break bottles (plastic) on. In general, you need to pile the trunk on top so that the roof is protected from external threats).
Alexander, review of Chevrolet Niva 1.7 with manual 2022 model year.
Specifications
Structurally, the Lada Niva Travel 2022 in the new body is practically no different from its predecessor, the Chevrolet Niva. This is still an SUV with a monocoque body, where an independent double wishbone suspension is installed on the front axle, and a dependent spring suspension is installed on the rear axle. The braking system of the car consists of disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
The model has permanent all-wheel drive, distributing traction between the axles in a ratio of 50:50. The transfer case has a reduction gear and a forced locking of the center differential. The Lada Niva Travel SUV has the following overall dimensions, mm:
- Length - 4,056
- Width - 1 800
- Height - 1 690
- Wheelbase - 2,450
- Ground clearance (clearance) - 220
The SUV's trunk volume is 320 liters, but with the rear row seats folded down the compartment capacity reaches 650 liters. The car has a 58-liter fuel tank. When equipped, the car weighs 1,410 kg.
The modernized Lada Niva Travel is powered by the same 1.7-liter gasoline engine with an output of 80 hp. (127 Nm), working in tandem with a five-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from zero to hundreds is given to the car in a long 19.0 seconds, and its maximum speed is stated at 140 km/h.
Since during the restyling of the Lada Niva Travel it essentially changed only in appearance, the car drives as before. The model frankly does not shine with dynamics, but if you actively operate the gearshift lever, then in urban conditions you can move without keeping up with the flow. The car is also capable of accelerating and overtaking trucks on the highway, while outside the city the SUV will delight you with its excellent smoothness.
The main trump card of the model, as before, is cross-country ability. On roads of varying degrees of severity, and even beyond them, Niva Travel drives slowly, but confidently. It is impossible not to note the excellent performance of the suspension, which allows the car to move relatively quickly on the dirt road without any significant discomfort for passengers.
The main innovation of the 2022 Lada Niva Travel interior was the tablet-shaped display of the multimedia system (in an expensive configuration). The touchscreen has nice graphics and responds quite quickly to touches. In general, there are no complaints about the operation of the complex. Except that the sound quality of standard music is so-so as expected.
But the frustrating fact is that apart from the multimedia in the cockpit, in general, nothing has changed. The controls (analog keys and knobs) look archaic, and the instrument panel with dim backlighting of gray scales is completely depressing.
At the same time, the new Lada Niva Travel is a completely comfortable car, which is especially good for winter use: in cold weather, the SUV can please you with excellent heated front seats and the presence of an electrically heated windshield.
Interesting Facts
In December 2019, the Russian automaker bought out Chevrolet's 50% share in a joint venture with GM, which was soon renamed Lada West Tolyatti. The name change also affected the Chevrolet Niva itself, which was initially renamed Lada Niva, and after the restyling it received the prefix “Travel”.
The production of the Lada Niva model started in July of the twentieth, and already in December the updated version of Travel entered the assembly line. It turned out that the company inherited the restyling project for the SUV from the GM-AvtoVAZ joint venture - which is why it was able to quickly be put into production. This also explains the lack of a signature X-shaped style.
Unlike the pre-reform version, the Lada Niva Travel sports high-mounted new headlights, a more prominent hood, and a completely redesigned bumper with a central part made of unpainted plastic. At the bottom of the bumper there is a silver insert with two holes for towing eyes, and to the right and left of it there are sections for fog lights.
The front fenders have also undergone revisions, plus new rear-view mirror housings, fender trims and door moldings (can be body-colored or made of unpainted plastic), as well as a different wheel design. At the stern there are new lights and a redesigned rear bumper. In the interior and in terms of technology, alas, everything remains unchanged.

For a foreign car
I have a VAZ 2106 and a Japanese small car, oh, what a used one, already 25 years old. And yet, yes, the six compared to the Toyota is just a pile of scrap metal! Much noisier, no power steering. There seems to be a brake booster, but I don’t understand what it is doing there, the pedal is hard. We have owned Toyota since 2003 and have driven about 120 thousand km on it. There were no breakdowns at all! Only consumables changed. The Russian bucket is constantly spilling. And not only my six, absolutely all the cans are falling out (many friends ride them). So, only the old Japanese are in the furnace. I have this Russian trough in my dacha, I need to take out the garbage or bring in cement. Drive it every day? I'm not that rich).
LADA URBAN 4x4 reviews
Hi all! I would like to share with you a review of the miracle of the domestic automobile industry Lada 4×4 “Urban”, also known to everyone as “Niva”. I’ve owned this car for seven months now and I still can’t get enough of it, I drive with one hand and wipe away tears of happiness with the other. I was faced with a choice: buy a used foreign car, or a brand new, but domestic car. Foreign cars are of course an order of magnitude higher than the brainchild of our automobile industry, but alas, finance sings romances. Only domestic cars are affordable. Of course, I knew that Russian cars rank first in the frequency of breakdowns, corrosion and lack of safety. But I was fueled by the hope that a technical breakthrough had occurred and our cars had become a real treasure and a standard of reliability. Oh, how wrong I was... At first I had my eye on the Lada Granta, which costs relatively little money, but since I am a fan of driving off the road and putting dirt on the roads, this option was not suitable. I’ve never encountered an all-wheel drive Lada, so although this option was suitable for me, I didn’t have much confidence in the reliability of this car.
I started storming various forums where there are descriptions and reviews of such cars. Some of the Urbana owners wrote that they were immensely pleased with the car, and some cursed the day they sat behind the wheel of this vacuum cleaner.
In general, after two days of reflection, I finally made a strong-willed decision to become the owner of this miracle of the domestic automobile industry. I continued to believe that domestic cars had become more reliable and better.
Arriving at the car dealership, I chose a car of a suitable color and carefully examined it for rust and various scratches. It seems that everything is fine and there is nothing to indulge in yet.
I liked the new instrument panel and seat supports, which the previous generation Nivas did not have. What was even more surprising was that there was air conditioning installed, heated seats and mirrors. My faith in the domestic auto industry has been revived again. And my confidence in technological progress grew stronger. But it didn't last long.
First impressions of the ride.
Having left the showroom, I was afraid that what could definitely be expected from a domestic car might happen - it would break down. But this did not happen, which surprised me very much.
It takes a while to get used to this car. She is short, light and nimble. When the speedometer needle goes over 60 kilometers per hour, a terrible hum from the transfer case begins in the cabin, which does not give a very pleasant feeling while driving. The suspension is about like a cart; on bumps the car bounces a lot.
But I want to give this car an excellent rating for its off-road behavior. Off-road, this little car truly works wonders. She will climb in and out of places where even legendary foreign SUVs can simply stand up. Dirt, sand, water, stones, peat bogs - overcomes with ease. Well, how easy it is... The engine must be revved up and kept at high speeds.
Speeding.
High speed is a flexible concept for every car enthusiast and car. For a Niva, 100 kilometers per hour is already a high speed. Even on a flat road, the car's suspension manages to find potholes and bumps. It gets thrown around when cornering, so this makes this car very unsuited to the track.
Safety.
We can say that it simply does not exist.
The build quality also leaves much to be desired. After a month of driving during rain and wind, water flows into the car through the right window on the passenger side and a hum is heard while driving. I don’t know if this is a feature or an engineering approach, but it’s very annoying.
Two months later, the windshield wipers stopped working - the fuse responsible for them burned out. The reverse lamp and interior lighting also burned out. I changed everything and everything seems to be fine. But a few days after I replaced the light bulbs, the car began to “eat” rubber. Especially on the right side.
Sometimes I think that it would be better if I took the foreign car from my hands and didn’t bother at all. Remembering the people who wrote on the forums that this is not a car, but just a fairy tale, I had a question: “Are these people even normal?” What could be good about this car? - only the color seems to me and nothing else.
Before the Niva, I conquered the roads in a Daewoo Nexia, which was assembled in sunny Uzbekistan. And there were no such problems with it, unlike the legend of the Togliatti plant, the assembly of which, as dealers assure, is under special control by the plant’s engineers. Maybe I'm unlucky. When this batch of cars was assembled, the engineers probably went on vacation; there are simply no other versions.
I hope my review of this car will bring sanity to those who decided to purchase a Lada 4×4 “Urban” for themselves. Don’t repeat my mistake, I realized that a new car does not mean reliable, especially for the domestic auto industry. Good luck to all!
For Lada
I read the comments - I didn’t like the people writing, why are everyone so angry? I’m already on my second Vesta, by the way, they’ve been in production for about five years now. I had a regular Vesta sedan for two years. Yes, there were still small bugs in it, and creaking in the suspension in the cold and a little singing box (such a feature of the box) by the way, after 2 years there are no questions at all to the case. Everything was fixed at the maintenance. But overall, even that car was good, and over 40 years I have driven different cars, both my own and my company’s. I traded in and took the last squeak of the Vesta SV Cross - a really good and beautiful car, everyone who approaches it unanimously does not believe that this is our auto industry. No worse than used foreign cars, Lada Vesta even more so. The only drawback is prestige, and in Moscow this is important. But I grew out of this a long time ago, and I’m even glad that I’m erasing these blind foreigners.
