New reviews from real owners of the new Lada Vesta Cross station wagon in all directions
Among AVTOVAZ, the new generation is associated not only with cute shapes, but also with the reliability of structural elements.
Judging by the design, the manufacturer has really taken a new path - every fifth car is purchased without a thorough analysis of Korean and European competitors such as Kia Rio, Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Solaris. Experts loudly repeat: “It’s hard not to give in to the temptation and buy a new nice car on the cheap.” And former Lada owners, who switched to foreign cars, look around and sometimes think about buying a five-door. Agree, this says something.
Salon
The spaciousness and quality of interior elements were noted by many testers. If reviews of the Lada Vesta SV Cross from car owners agree with the first conclusion, then claims are made against the second. Thus, the panel often has play in some part, and the plastic is excessively rigid. However, it doesn't come to the point of squeaks. There are no comments regarding the steering wheel.
Even a person with a height of 2 meters can comfortably fit in the driver’s seat. There are no complaints about the chairs themselves. Anatoly M. from Yekaterinburg shares the same opinion:
“Before the purchase of Vesta there were Solaris and Logan. My height is 182 cm. I couldn’t fit comfortably in either car. My lower back hurt. We even had to add small pillows. Here the lumbar support works great. Set up the middle position and ready to travel.”
Unlike niche companions, this machine has some comments in terms of ergonomics. Car enthusiasts have noticed many mistakes:
- The smartphone pocket is not designed to accommodate a modern gadget.
- Lack of space for various small items.
- The central box is not worked out.
- Shallow cup holders.
However, these minor shortcomings can be taken into account. Moreover, the car’s obvious competitor is the Ford Focus, the price of which goes far beyond 1,000,000 rubles. Offers of similar cost cannot compete with the option under consideration both in terms of noise insulation and in terms of overall comfort.
Trunk
The cargo compartment is an attribute of unconditional superiority. An excellent organizational approach to its design and arrangement is appreciated by every station wagon owner. Here you will find mesh, niches, and pockets. In short, everything is the same as on expensive foreign-made devices.
All merit - without compromising the main criterion: spaciousness. In this parameter, SW Cross has even surpassed the budget crossover series represented by Lada Xray, Hyundai Creta, Renault Kaptur. If they are measured by wheels, the luggage compartment can accommodate 4 copies of summer tires without the need to fold out the seats.
In the niche under the spare wheel of the Lada Vesta Cross Station wagon, reviews from real owners noted the presence of water after rain. However, no such drawback was noticed on new machines. What's missing is a bumper cover. I really don’t want to scratch the “Mars” paint.
Electrical and electronics
A fairly common situation is that the engine does not start after washing. Drivers are at fault for problems in the electrical part, since after a while the car still starts. Full of minor bugs:
- The USB charger for rear passengers often pops out of its seat.
- "Thoughtful" rear view camera.
- The difference is in the clarity and volume of movement of the turn signal switch lever.
- Unclear clock synchronization on the multimedia unit and the BC.
- The electric drive for unlocking one of the doors is jammed.
- There is no navigation from Yandex.
- There are no automatic window closers.
- Difficulty resetting BC.
- The single-swing mode of the windshield wipers is not enough.
- Summer washer gets on the glass after the wipers are activated.
Lights, triple turn signals and heating - all this works properly on any Lada Vesta SW Cross. The climate control system deserves special attention. Its author is the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Cools well in hot weather and warms well in cold weather. Alexander N. from Novosibirsk described in detail the efficiency of the heater:
“It was -33°C outside. The car warmed up quickly. I was driving along the highway and set the climate to +22°C, because at +24°C it was already stuffy. After 30 minutes I took off my jacket. The left hand does not feel numb. The interior warms up evenly – it’s comfortable for both the legs and the head.”
About oil waste, tires and fuel consumption
It should be said about oil consumption. This topic is relevant for my engine. I read the forums and started checking the engine oil. At first, I had to add a little less than a liter for the first 3,000 km. Then consumption decreased to a minimum. After maintenance at 15,000 km, I monitor the level - as long as everything is in place, the oil does not leak. This means the burning has stopped.
Before winter I also changed the tires to winter ones. It turns out that only tires of size 205/50 R17 are available for the Vesta SW Cross - the manufacturer is required to install them. But tires are expensive and not practical for our conditions. Therefore, I took 16th wheels with Goodyear Ultragrip tires 205/60/R16. It seems that the rubber is meatier, but this did not affect comfort and handling.
In the summer we went on vacation to Sochi. Naturally, no problems arose. According to the on-board computer, consumption was at least 6.0 liters on an empty highway. And so the average holds about 8.6 liters. My trips are approximately 70% city and 30% highway. I only fill up at Lukoil or Gazprom. At first I only used 95 gasoline, but now I use 92 because of prices. I didn’t notice a big difference, only consumption increased slightly with 92 gasoline.
I read on the website drive2.ru that many people install additional seals for doors. I’m also thinking about implementing this modification for myself. Another plan for the summer is to partially soundproof the doors and install better speakers - preferably component ones.

Latest reviews from car owners of the Lada Vesta SV Cross station wagon on the technical side
From an aggregate point of view, the car turned out to be not entirely successful, but not in all configurations. It's all about the mass. The car is 165 kg heavier than the same Priora. The curb weight of the cross version is 1,350 kg. What about the engine power?
Engine and gearbox
There are two power plants to choose from – 1.8 and 1.6. The second internal combustion engine is already familiar from Lada Priora. The power is the same - 106 hp. But there are problems with power supply due to the same mass. To achieve optimal dynamic performance, the motor must be spun up. The 1.8-liter unit is more torquey, but not by much. The difference is about 22 Nm. As a result, we have sluggish acceleration to 100 km/h and non-competitive behavior after the first hundred. The car absolutely calmly reaches 160 km/h and maintains this speed, maintaining the proper level of comfort inside.
After running in, the engine becomes softer and more elastic. The dips go away and traction appears at the bottom. Often in reviews of car owners of the SV Cross Lada Vesta version, information appears about low-quality components of this kind:
- Chinese bearings are installed in Polish timing rollers.
- There are problems with Valeo clutches.
- Low-quality valve stem seals on 1.8 liter engines.
The latter led to a lot of complaints about the 21179 engine. They related to the fact that the unit regularly consumes oil, regardless of speed. With five-speed manual transmissions, not everything is smooth either - in second gear at high speeds a whine is possible. However, the handle, due to the use of a cable drive, does not transmit any vibrations to the hand.
Fuel consumption
The actual fuel consumption of the Lada Vesta is considerable. However, it corresponds to the passport values. Thus, moving at a “first-second-third-first” pace, which corresponds to the traffic situation in small towns, requires 10.2 liters of AI-95 per hundred. However, Sergei N. from Voronezh notes the following trend:
“As the run-in progresses, the appetite decreases. Thus, over the first 1,500 km, gasoline consumption dropped from 9.2 to 8.7 liters per 100 km.”
Suspension
Low-profile tires hint at a harsh ride. But Vesta doesn’t have this. The behavior of the shock absorbers is elastic and balanced, vaguely reminiscent of a Ford Focus. However, foreign-made reliability cannot be found here. Nikolai P. from Tula speaks about this:
“Literally after the first 250 km I heard gurgling and extraneous knocking in the suspension. Even in Grant there is no such thing. I went to the officials and they shrugged their shoulders, without giving any arguments other than how it should be.”
Why Vesta?
Before choosing, I read various reviews on car websites. I liked the article from Auto-Review magazine. There they sorted out the various configurations of Vesta, which is better to choose. Therefore, I decided for myself that I would take Cross, because... I really liked the look. I took it for a test at the dealer and liked the car; I didn’t feel it was too hard even on 17-inch wheels.
I chose a car with a 1.8 engine and a manual transmission in the Luxe configuration with a multimedia kit for 849,000 rubles (at that time) from a local dealer. The only options I chose from the dealer were floor mats and mud flaps. And so the car is already in full mince - heated seats and windows, rear view camera, navigator, light and rain sensors, climate control.
At the moment there are only 17,800 miles on the odometer and there are no serious complaints about the car. Everything is working fine so far. As for the little things, I’ll note that in December, with the onset of frost, I changed the wipers. The factory ones became difficult to clean in the middle, when the temperature was below zero. I bought proven Bosch Aero Twin brushes - they clean well. Let's see how long they last.
Verdict
Externally and internally the car turned out to be successful. But still, reviews from real owners of the Lada Vesta station wagon performed by SV Cross still do not cease to note minor miscalculations in ergonomics. In terms of convenience and sound comfort, everything is wonderful. The trunk is spacious and well equipped. Basic and minor electrical components are working properly.
Claims have been made regarding the power supply of the machine. The engines have more than enough power only if you rev them up. Consumption is high - up to 10.2 l/100 km in urban conditions. The suspension handles unevenness adequately, but there are questions about its operation - knocking and gurgling noises are heard.

Owner reviews
Total: not yet a foreign car, but clearly not a typical representative of the domestic automobile industry, and it will definitely give many imported ones a head start. Outwardly she is a beauty. The salon is nice. Chassis and Shumka - you won’t find these for under 1 million rubles. Engine - we'll see after running it in, but it's definitely better than Kalina's.
I thought that the chassis and directional stabilization system (road holding) of my wife’s Nissan Tiida were excellent, but how wrong I was! SV Cross was invented specifically for the roads I drive on! Now the quality of the road means nothing to me. We can say that it rides “like on rails”!
Review of the new Lada Vesta Cross 1.8 (122 hp) MT 2022
Video review
I decided that I would break it in like this - no more than 2,500 rpm. This is 90 km/h. I set up the cruise and drove off, only the tires were noisy. The cross holds the road excellently and is sensitive to steering movements. Everything is convenient, everything is at hand. I immediately figured out the multimedia gadgets - the radio reception is excellent, the volume and clarity of the sound are pleasing. I really liked talking “through the machine” - the music is gradually muffled, and then only the call comes through. Fuel consumption during the haul was shown by the car computer to be around 7.8 liters per 100 km. Great!
Review of Lada Vesta SV Cross 1.8 (122 hp) MT 2022
Compared to my previous Kia Sid and Cross. Not everything is so simple. In terms of handling, the Cross is not inferior to Sid, it even takes turns much more confidently (I’ve already had time to appreciate it) - but this is a track. But on gravel/primer or “tired” asphalt, here Cross is not a head, but all three taller than Sid.
Where Cross confidently drives at 60-70 km/h, Sid trudges along at 5-10 km/h, and if you give the gas and raise the speed to 25-30 km/h, then, excuse me, Sid will simply fall apart, since he has short-travel and rigid suspension. The Cross’s suspension, on the contrary, is long-travel and energy-intensive.
Around the cabin. Vesta has more space for the driver and front passenger; I’m already silent about the rear passengers, where three of them are quite comfortable. And in Side, rear passengers can feel comfortable, only two of them, the third will experience wild discomfort (a very hard seat in the middle).
True, the interior material is much better from the Korean. The dashboard made of SOFT plastic costs a lot, and the texture itself is pleasing to the eye. But the seats in Vesta, in my opinion, are better in terms of ergonomics. I set it up for myself quite quickly and comfortably.
But the driver’s left leg does not have enough space in the place of “rest”, and the front passenger also has a little trouble with his right leg. Why did the front arches climb into the interior?!
Now my Cross is being run-in, I try not to allow high revs (unless when overtaking). Dynamics can be rated 5-6 on a 10-point scale. Maybe it will open up by 10,000 km... In the urban cycle, the dynamics suit me.
AMT. Everything here is predictable and understandable... Changing gears takes a long 1.5-2.0 seconds, while the switching itself is very “amusing”. It takes a very long time for the clutch to engage and the car rolls at full speed, which creates the impression that someone is holding my Cross by the ass... As a result, banal engine braking occurs.
When you start pressing the gas pedal, the robot reacts quite quickly, but the main thing here is not to “overdo it,” otherwise you might end up with a kick-down with all the ensuing consequences.
Review of Lada Vesta SW Cross 1.8 (122 hp) robot 2022
The main disappointment in the new Vesta SW and SW Cross station wagons based on the results of the first test drive in Sochi for me personally was the 1.8-liter engine in combination with a manual transmission. Vesta with such an engine was first tested in our test back in the spring, but at that time I hoped that it was the “robot” on that test sedan that was the main reason for the sluggish nature of the more powerful car in comparison with the proven 1.6-liter version. The possibility of incorrect running-in of test vehicles cannot be ruled out (in fact, they immediately fall to the “tear to pieces” of meticulous journalists). Therefore, we started operating our Cross with a run-in regulated by the “Operation Manual” - perhaps this will help to more fully reveal the potential of the engine?
