On the one hand, in terms of comfort and controllability, VAZ models are usually inferior to modern foreign cars, but in fact, the relatively low-set Priora holds the road quite well, has a “light” steering wheel with electric steering and a quite comfortable suspension. In turn, the Lada Granta is more rolling and can “scour” along the road at high speeds. As for the suspension, it is also soft and quite comfortable.

In terms of safety, both models have a driver airbag, as well as ABS, EBD and BAS systems in minimum configurations. More expensive versions also include air conditioning, a passenger airbag, an on-board computer, parking sensors and other useful solutions and options.

A transitional model, which is placed as an intermediate between a sedan and a hatchback, is a liftback. In terms of body shape, the car has overhangs similar to those of a hatchback, but the length of the luggage compartment is the same as in the sedan configuration.

In addition to their representative appearance, sedans have a number of advantages that experienced drivers value so much:

  1. The sedan provides better weight distribution. This means that at highway speeds the car has ideal stability - it is easier to control and maneuver. The front and rear axles experience almost equal load due to the same volume of the engine and luggage compartment.

The manufacturer plans to equip the sedan with the options present in the liftback in the near future. The restyling process for the LADA Granta is expected to be carried out this year. Today, the liftback has a number of undeniable advantages over the sedan regarding the exterior and driving parameters, but still, which is better, everyone chooses for themselves. When choosing a suitable modification, you should first study the full list of features. It is also not recommended to neglect your own priorities and preferences. Consider the difference between modifications not only in characteristics and equipment, but also in a financial sense. If you are willing to pay more for a presentable design, interior improvements and slightly increased performance, then the liftback is your option. Are the technical parameters comparable?

So, our task is to understand what is closer to buyers of the Lada Grant or the Lada Priora? Aspects of this issue lie in many reviews from owners who do not see significant differences between the modifications present here. This is not surprising, since the cars are equipped with identical engines and almost identical transmission units.

In the Priora model range, there are two units: a 98-horsepower version and a 106-horsepower version. Granta already boasts 4 modifications of engines: less forced, 82- and 87-horsepower versions are added to the two mentioned ones.

Much more attention is paid to the “sick” components of the Priora - the struts and the electric power steering. The manufacturer claims that these shortcomings have been eliminated in the updated modification.

A significant problem with Priora is the risk of valves bending when the timing belt breaks. In the modified engine “21127” this drawback also could not be eliminated. It seems that it will not be possible to “hide” from this problem in the future, since according to persistent rumors that are gaining momentum, this model has been “standing” on the assembly line for the last year.

During the three-year period of operation of the Grant, no significant deficiencies were identified. As an exception, the generator bearing is presented, which is prone to frequent failure.

When choosing between two competitors LADA Granta or LADA Priora, you should not forget about the aspects we have given. Our sympathies, according to the tradition already formed here, move towards Granta.

I would like to remind you that the Lada Priora, a family car model, has been produced for quite a long time. More precisely, the Priora came to the market in 2007. In addition, the car will not lag behind the times in terms of being equipped with various options or security systems. In this regard, Priora or any other car also undergoes modernization over time.

Lada Granta entered the market as an alternative to the outdated Zhiguli classics - the VAZ-2105 and 2107 models. In 2011, a car appeared that brought a fresh spirit to the AvtoVAZ line. During its production, the car received several body types:

The manufacturer made every effort to eradicate the flaws inherent in the sedan.

The Lada Granta configurations in the “Standard” and “Norma” versions have acquired new settings in the suspension, where a special role is given to modified shock absorbers. The springs were carried over from the sedan. The suspension has become more suitable for country roads. Here passengers perceive bumps and potholes more comfortably.

The luxury equipment will delight you with a new suspension design, where a powerful stabilizer and rigid spring elements are located as a separate link. This solution is aimed at increasing stability and reducing amplitude during rolls.

If we compare, the design of the liftback does not imply the presence of a body-strengthening bulkhead located in the stern. The rigidity of the body frame was increased by strengthening the underbody and roof panel, as well as making adjustments to the design of the middle spar.

Exterior comparison

Traditionally, we start with the appearance. We look at the galaxy of options that are offered by the manufacturer’s design workshop. The Priora immediately evokes associations with a classic sedan, which slightly reveals the similarity of its lines with its predecessor. The body shape is more suited to the definition of “traditional” rather than “modern”.

Even despite the restyling performed in 2014, the body cannot be called revolutionary changed. The designers “made the Priora happy” with new headlights, bumpers and rear dimensions. The exterior has improved, but not significantly, although reviews from most owners of the new product are positive.

Much more significant changes have already been noticed in the interior. Just think about the use of materials from the “soft-look” line alone, thanks to which the interior acquired a richer look. But the previous problems did not go away, including the small size of the driver's seat cushion. The difference between the Granta is the larger amount of space inside the cabin. Only the plastic of the dashboard, which is not of the best quality, can spoil the picture.

The exterior should be noted separately. It is quite modern and not without its own style. The car body will delight you with its sweeping lines and graceful contours. From a distance, the model is indistinguishable from an expensive foreign car.

In this discipline, Grants had more advantages, but this is not a fact that this particular model is better.
