This time they didn’t come up with a new model, but they released another special version - now “Kalina”, called Kalina Black Line - this became known on July 6. Despite the “telling” name, it will not be the car itself that will be black, but only some of its elements – the linings on the wheel arches and the roof, as well as white turn indicators.

    The new version will have two-tone wheels, and vinyl stickers will be placed on the door sills. The main color of the car is available in two versions - white and orange. The brand's designers believed that these shades best set off the contrasting dark elements and emphasize the thoughtful image of the new Lada.

    The basic equipment cannot be called primitive: the user is offered a climate system, a pair of standard airbags, an acoustic radio with two operating modes, the ability to heat the front seats and even the side windows. Black Line has two upholstery options - original orange or classic gray, which perfectly matches the white color of the car.

    The best-selling among the cars of the Lada Kalina cycle is the Lada Kalina Cross – it accounts for about half of all sales of the name.     In fact, the new Kalina is an improved version of the well-known Granta. It is better in terms of the quality of materials used, sound insulation and installed engines. At the same time, much is taken from its predecessor, which can be seen even from the photo of the Lada Kalina. The hatchback, for example, borrowed the Jatco gearbox, previously used for the same Granta, and practically the same interior and seats. But progress is obvious.

    The model was released under the slogan “complete stuffing”. By this phrase, marketers meant, first of all, new multimedia (available in expensive trim levels) with slots for SD cards and USB flash drives, but without a CD player. To control it, there is a block of buttons located on the center console and a touch screen. The radio can also work in conjunction with a navigator. But the system has not been developed to the required level and does not work well in certain models, as demonstrated during test drives of pre-production versions of the car.

    A pleasant surprise for domestic car enthusiasts was the manufacturer’s decision to abandon the ten-speed manual gearbox, the quality of which left much to be desired. The gear shift pattern on a manual transmission has changed. Previously, reverse gear was engaged by moving to the left and up, but now it is opposite the fifth speed. A special lock will prevent you from mistakenly engaging a sixth gear that does not exist. A cup holder installed in front of the gearshift lever is an erroneous decision from an ergonomic point of view. If you put a 0.5 liter bottle in it, then when switching odd speeds the driver will rest his hand on it.

    The absence of vibrations on the gearshift lever, reduced strokes and easy gear shifting - this is the new transmission on the Kalina car (hatchback). The characteristics of the engines working together with it are relatively weak, but they are enough for confident driving.

    The car is equipped with 1.6-liter engines with a power of 87 (eight-valve from Federal Modul) and 106 hp. (an updated 16-valve version, previously installed on the Grant with a power of 98 hp).

    The second engine will leave a mixed impression. The fact is that with it the dynamics of the car have remained virtually unchanged, but the transport tax will be significantly higher. In addition, only car owners who are familiar with the latter first-hand will be able to appreciate its advantages over the 98-horsepower engine. The engine picks up better at low speeds, but this is almost not noticeable. The best option, according to experts, is a combination of a 98-horsepower version with an automatic transmission.
